When fighting the Void Horror, pay close attention to the swirlies it puts under you on the ground as well as the void stuff it fires at you. Both are a very dark purple that's hard to see against the green-grass, but they'll hit you for 25% of your health each time.

One of the designers at Blizzard REALLY seems to have a thing for "place swirlies under them constantly to keep them moving" this expansion ;)

I just finished this on my Disc Priest. The the swirls it puts under you on the ground as well as the void stuff it fires at you, as mentioned by Neonkitten, make it almost impossible to stand still for more than one cast. I did it with Purge the Wicked and I ran circles. Try to stay at max range as the void stuff most times will not make it to you. I have trinkets that increase intellect that i used on CD. and when i had time to cast did Radiance and Smite, and on CD Power Word Shield. It was tough as a half DPS, but was my best choice as I don't have or like shadow.

as a balance druid, it wasn't too bad just chipped away at his health with dots with the occasional surge, just be careful you don't go too far away from his original position cause he can leash

If you die multiple times and decide to come back another day, you have to drop the quest and retake it or he won't pop.

This is NOT a quest you need to solo. Just make sure you are on the same part of the quest when you fight. (port out, abandon, retake) and kill it with others that are on the same quest part. (yes absolute BLIZZ fail) Undoable for healers alone.

A long, tough, ugly fight, even for a 405 Bear tank. He resets if you even think of looking in the wrong direction, so park yourself underneath him and then look for the little yellow dot on your mini-map before you go charging after him in the wrong direction. Rinse and repeat 1,247 times. Be prepared to be healing yourself constantly. Bring lots of potions. Bring all the buffs you can find.

Even better, bring a few friends, slap him hard and call him Sally.

After pulling stand on the platform. The void balls don't hit you so you only have to look out for the swirlies he places under you.

Chill, you have all the time in the world, no need to rush. Avoid damage first, then deal damage. There are two abilities you should pay attention to and avoid:

1. Dark Orb will be done in a cone in front of him. Move behind him.
2. Twilight Barrage will fall on the swirlies on the ground. Move away from the swirlies.

When he isn't doing these two abilities, dps him.

Took me 2 attempts to complete on a ilvl 406 BM hunter - I succeeded by runing, running running and let my pet do the damage. - I just needed to spam mend pet on my pet and just keep running.
Running is the key to complete

This quest isn't worth the time.

As range I can say ok. Even thou it stupid beyond words.

But as melee it's not worth the time at all.

Why Blizzard thinks this is remotely fun is well. Beyond stupid.

Maybe have him fart more 1 shot mechanics That would be fun:(

Keep moving. As melee you'll do no damage. Anything hitting you your dead and you start again.

Again this isn't worth the time.

As a pally over 400 it's doable whilst you keep moving, probably same for druids and hunters. As for any classes without a few mobility friendly damage attacks, seriously save yourself some time/repair bills and just look in group finder for some friends to make it quicker and easier. People will be doing this quest for a while so there should be no shortage of groups (or make one yourself that should fill fairly quick). Won't be an alt/new player friendly quest down the track unless severely nerfed when not as many people doing it. Would hate to be a reasonably fresh 120 trying this one solo, even as a pally! If you're a real masochist you could try doing it as a holy priest and let us know down below how much fun it was lol.

This quest took several times for me to figure out how to fight this thing and come up with the best strategy I could think of. As a Windwalker Monk with an ivl of 393, it was pretty aggravating getting beaten to death while the green dragon didn’t help you in this fight. For Windwalker Monk at least, these are the abilities I prioritized using:

Tiger’s Lust- move from Dark Orb/ Twilight Barrage

I highly recommend using the abilities and really focus on using Tiger’s Lust/ Roll to get behind the Void Horror in order to use your main abilities like Tiger Palm and etc. to attack then focus on moving out of the way during Twilight Barrage. You can also use the platform to help block Dark Orb, but I stopped using the platform as the Void Horror would just go back to beginning and gain all its health back. Anyway good luck with this quest because it can be done! Just try fighting it and figuring out a strategy to defeat it! :)

Just did this on Arms Warrior. Died 5 times before deciding to run literal circles around the op mob. It worked, but just barely. Died a 6th time 1 second after finally killing the mob. Hate quests like this. Life if challenging enough. I play this game to have fun. And almost not being able to complete a quest is NOT fun.

This was a walk in the park for my 395 rogue. I died the first time because I just stood in front of him.
Second attempt, I just kept him close, but ran round him in circles spamming Sinister Strike. He stops moving when he casts the orbs, so just get behind him before he finishes casting and nuke. When he finishes casting he will move again, so start circling again too. Use Between The Eyes every chance you get, and again stand and nuke when he's stunned.
The main thing is to keep him where he is, keep him close, and AVOID THE ORBS!
While running in circles, if you get a bit too far away, just spam Pistol Shot while you get back in position.
Took just over a minute to kill on my second attempt, no buffs, and the only cd I used other than between the eyes was one Killing Spree, and my dps isn't the best.

Not remotely possible as under 400 damage warrior. Don't waste your time. If blizz is going to prioritize certain classes to the point that other classes cannot complete these quests they need to get new management and fire their troll developers.

As noted by other players above, success on this quest requires an item level somewhere near 400. I attempted it (prematurely I see now) as an i365 Prot Warrior. I will come back when I am near 400 item level. My 415 hunter practically 1-shot this boss, but heavily flasked (Repurposed Fel Focuser, Draenic Agility, Flask of 7th Demon and Greater Flask of the Currents - lovely that you can stack these buffs!).

Just completed on my ilevel 350 arcane mage. After a couple of deaths I saw and used the comment about standing on the platform. Had to engage then run to platform as he started his first cast - got a break during this run by using Counterspell. Made sure I had all 4 arcane charges, used my "First Mate's Spyglass", then Arcane Power, then Arcane Blasts until I needed Evocation, then 3 Arcane Blasts followed by Arcane Missiles, repeating until it died. Had to move around platform a little to avoid his bombs, but survived with only losing about 1//3 health. Hope this helps mages.

What a pita! Died the first time. Tried what some others were saying about staying close to him and that worked quite well! Doable with a 385 Disc Priest!

The information about standing on the pad is just so wrong now. Perhaps it was so at one stage, but it does not work now. It may seem to work for a while, but some how it suddenly realises what you doing and wham wham wham wham and you are dead.

i also requard this quest as bugged when you die, the horror resets rather than wait for you to rezz and resume like similar quests. A typical annoying Blizz trait, like the new inability to mark down the wrong comment since they took over wowhead.

The trick about staying right up close to the Void Horror was (literally) a lifesaver! Managed to get him on my ilvl 370 Balance druid using this strategy.

Okay, I am a Holy Priest, have almost no abilities that allow movement and this stupid quest is impossible to solo. Anyone want to do it with a good healer 420

Since I didn't see anything about it (probably because I was the only one who did it), I'll leave this here:

If you're on the previous quest just trying to go through and forget you have to turn it in for this one, then you go kill the Grips of Horror before getting this one, you have to teleport out then reset it to get them to respawn. Otherwise you don't get credit for the ones you killed without the quest (obviously). Simply teleporting out isn't enough, and the reset will bring you back right to that room.

Completed on 4th attempt as a Resto Shaman by hitting it with instant abilities when available and my only DOT then running around and rinse, repeat. Just keep moving, dodge the purple and it's possible. Just takes time :)

Tried to do it by staying in motion, which is quite doable with a melee monk, and I got a few combos in, so he was going down. He usually has some seconds where you can do damage, then you step back a bit and let him use his cone attack, then you go in again and keep running around him while avoiding the swirls. If you get too close, he teleports away and will use his cone attack first. If you can, blink or torpedo behind him, he can cone as long as he likes, while you can damage him.This worked well...until he teleported into the lake. If you do not get close, he will not move out of there and keeps peppering you with his attacks. When you keep your distance the cones will be easy to avoid, but then enough time has past for him to ALSO put the swirls down. Now you can try to avoid both. A few steps too far back and he resets and everything was in vain. If you go into the lake, you are too slow to avoid his attacks and die. Plus the tentacles you killed are respawning and will attack you. Great. Someone really made a mess.

I just leveled my monk up, so my item level is barely over 300. Probably would help to boost that a bit, but why give me this quest, if I can't win? There are item level limits all over the game, but not here. Oh well, two more twinks to go to get them all up to 120. I will just leave this one.

Edit: Oh well, call me stubborn, but I tried it a few times more and got lucky. He did not teleport into the lake so I wore him down and got the scale. NOT a fun quest, but doable with a level 314 windwalker monk. Keep moving and avoid everything. You get a bit of healing from the dragon...thanks, Merithra, for NOT helping me more. I did expect a bit more from a dragon...

The boss is difficult if you're not a mobility class. I was able to take this dude down as a Discipline Priest. The previous comments about staying close to him won't work. Just keep on your feet and spam any spells that you can cast while moving. Make sure to keep the dude away from the Grips of Horror as their respawn time is fairly quick.

Just did it with my warlock, which was doable. The boss have challenging abilities, and I think warlocks and hunters have the easiest time with this one. Pet/voidtank, dot up the Void Horror, and throw a heal to pet/minion while avoiding the fog of death. I can't even imagine how it is for other classes with low Itemlevel who have to fight for themselves.

yep, just my quick note: as an ele shammy i was getting spanked left right and centre, stood directly underneath him watching for the swirlies and the purple stuff avoid them if you can but he has only 1 direction he can chuck his purple stuff and it went the opposite way because i was stood underneath him.

Just completed in Pre-Patch, lv50 ilvl 68 Frost Mage. Super easy, didn't do anything tricky like getting on the platform or underwater, etc. I just avoided his attacks and spammed with my normal rots until he died.

I followed this guide previously as ilvl370 WW monk and the tip about staying right under him worked like a charm, i barely took a scratch! The key is staying under and slightly behind him to avoid his attacks

For your friends who want to help, if they are wondering where the heck this quest came from -
- - - or you, if you are wondering why you'd keep or whether to ditch it - - -

This is the tail end of the quest line to get the Green Dragonflight's support for the Heart Of Azeroth.

The resulting prize (in the middle of the air after an exhausted cadre of green dragons focus upon it) is a shiny green dragonscale that will get you the next Rank in the (effectively breath weapon) azeroth neck Essence.

Next mini-thread will be Kalec (who is Kalecgos the blue dragon) who's concerned that Alexstrasza didn't opt in a lot sooner.

I succeeded by planning to spiral around him at mid range.

far away is a lot easier to dance around the purple bubbles, but also too far away to fix it if he starts to rubber band on you.
too close (sorry melee) is a great place to get stunned (use instant strikes, keep Healed Enough or mitigated, and pay good attention to his location-circle inside the giant ring shaped hit box. turn "make effects particles" up to All Of Them if you have to, it's worth it)

For the "conical wave of purple bubbles" get just outside of your chosen edge of it. He'll turn to face you. Keep pasting him, spiral in on him if your attacks or casts need to be close.

For the "he teleports a short distance" if anything you do or some trinky thing you've got pops any sort of little pal that also attacks, whether it's pitiful fists or not the Friendly will chase him so you can go the right direction. This seemed to prevent the reset for me.

For the "stupid purple at your feet" don't stay there, the damage is kind of harsh, and this is BfA content in Legion areas, so it scales to you. It scaled to my level 53 shaman. (I hadn't paid attention to the LEVEL of it on my druid, i was too busy hoping enough moonfires would do the job).
- - -> long story short if he stuns you this'd be when he pastes you, so ugh.
- - -> I can't tell if "stand in this too long" is how to get stunned, don't stay there to find out.

But spiraling around him at just enough pace that I can tell when the next orbs cast is up is how I lived.
