Just in case anyone is as brain dead as me - go right when you enter the cave and go up the slope and around to the back. I was swimming in the water for a while wondering where the ward was.

After you transformed into stone brogbar, you have to slay some mobs.
When dealt with those who are outside, move to a cave at 41.3 72.4 spot.
After that, when the task changed to place the ward, follow the path up.
Proceed to the end of path and place the ward on the ground.

While you're transformed, you can still engage in World Quests if they're within the bounds of the "spirit world" for this quest. For example, I was able to (easily) complete Lords of the Hills by essentially one-shotting all the Ettins near the cave. However, be warned that moving further away from the quest objective brings up a warning saying "Your connection to the spirit world is fading..." and if you don't return to the bounds of the quest, you'll be teleported back to the starting point.

After placing the ward, I was brought back to the quest giver, only to have my character forced to fly in a straight line through terrain where the stone drogbar used the ward. And the flight didn't stop there, keeping the trajectory! I went west of the Broken shore deep into fatigue zone (around 71 57 on the Broken Isles' map). Then I flew a bit backwards, but it stopped and I regained control (still into fatigue zone). There appeared to be no way of going back, so I just used Dalaran Hearthstone and flew back to the quest giver myself.

Starting from patch 10.1.5, all restrictions for unlocking Allied Races have been removed, with the exception of a level requirement.
All Allied Races can now be unlocked once you have a level 40 character on your account (was level 50). Blue post.

Not sure why they nerfed the dmg you do while transformed, or im just doing something wrong. i have to wait between killing a mob for life to come back, only do like 3k a hit and the bigger guys have like 67k life. I've watched videos where they are hitting for like 27k, not sure why ill only doing 3k

Edit: just waited for another to come and they were one shot'n everything...still don't get it lol

Managed to finally complete this after running into the scaling issue causing Igrul to do next to no damage: Had to turn off the scaling by going to Chromie in Orgimmar and returning to the present timeline. The damage of both Igrul and the quest mobs went back to normal at lvl 67 after doing this, though I imagine it'll work as long as you're lvl 45 or above.

I tried this quest line today 09/25/24, patch 11.0.2, at level 54.

TLDR:

EDIT: Just attempted this quest line again at lvl 70 and everything works as intended.
This entire quest line is broken at lower levels.
Current timeline made no difference to my damage on this quest line.
Legion timeline made no difference to my damage on this quest line.
I gave up at the final step to “Minions of Darkness.”
As of 09/25/24, there is a bug report submitted on the US Blizzard Support Forum... If you're having this issue, please add your voice.
ADVICE: leveling to 70 before doing this quest line is less frustrating and more fun.

QUEST LINE DETAILS:

Walking in Their Footsteps

Pulled a bunch of the required mobs that seem to take ~1000-2000 dmg per hit.
Combat to kill all required mobs took me 9:35m by spamming both abilities, 2 Landslide to 1 Rockfall, repeat.
Placing the ward (up the ramp) zones you back to Spiritwalker Greysky to hand in the quest.
This can be done while in combat. Any extra mobs will vanish.

Minions of the Darkness

2 abilities: Fury of the Phoenix and Cyclonic Vortex
It only took ~2:06 to take down enough Dark Spirits when you pick up all 12 at once
Shadowy Tendrils take ~1:30 each to kill. Don’t single target any. If standing between 2 at a time, the Cyclonic Vortex will hit both, even though your Fury of the Phoenix (5y radius) will not.
I was in combat with Shadow of the Darkness for ~3:50m to get it to 75%...
THEN I GAVE UP. Combat time to kill it would be ~14:40m.

I have ADHD; my attention span only goes so far.

I did this quest (10/1/2024) and it is indeed broken. If you're attempting this just know that it's gonna take a while. You can't die while in spirit form so it's not impossible, it's just slow. In the first and second quest, as much as possible, just run around and gather all the enemies you need before starting to attack. For the tendrils on the 2nd quest wherever you can stand between two close tendrils so your tornadoes hit both of them. The final boss on the 2nd quest sucks and took me about 20 minutes to kill. I saw somebody else linked to a support page about this quest, go tell 'em it's broken! Hopefully they can get this fixed soon.

Edit: Just wanted to add I was about level 50 when I did this

Use the Water of Vision to walk in the memories of Igrul the Scalebane.

Description

Spiritwalkers maintain balance between the world of the living and the spirit realm. We can travel into the memories of the dead to glean clues about the past. The wards Ebonhorn maintained were placed long ago by heroes who fought the darkness. By walking in their footsteps, we may locate the wards and restore them. Igrul, the drogbar known as the Scalebane, was a true friend to Huln Highmountain. Use the Water of Vision to enter his memories and find where he placed the first ward.
