Info on the full "Breaching the Barrier" quest chain, one of the six quest chain criteria for the Master Relic Hunter (Alliance)/ Master Relic Hunter (Horde) achievement needed to get the Harrison Jones follower with Extreme Scavenger and unique Mentor traits. This chain takes place in Shadowmoon Valley, the southeastern Draenor zone.

Getting Starter Quests: The first quest is given by Harrison Jones, who turns up just inside your garrison's Town Hall on random days. He's in some garrisons every day; use Group Finder's Premade Groups/Custom category to search for "Harrison" to see if anyone is inviting people to their garrison to get the quest.

Bug Notes:

Leave at least one spot free in your quest log (i.e. 24 of 25), or a quest may become uncompletable going from one quest to the next.
You can not do these quests in a raid group; doing some steps in a raid group can make a quest uncompletable.
If a quest becomes uncompletable, you can return to your garrison, delete the quest, and re-accept the quest on that step of the quest chain from the book of Relic Hunting Notes on the ground next to Harrison Jones. All but the initial quest are also shareable from party members, if you are on the same step of the quest chain.
If clicking the "Click to complete quest" pop-up makes it go away but doesn't actually complete the quest, open your quest log, select on the quest, and click "Complete quest".

1. Treasure Contract: Explosive Discoveries: on the large southern island in Shadowmoon Valley, kill and loot Demolitionist Megacharge, and click the "Click to complete quest" pop-up. Aviana's Feather is handy getting to the exact spots for several of these quests, if you have one, but has a ten minute cooldown. Three ways to get to the island, in order of preference, depending on which flightpoints you are able to use:

Fly to the Darktide Roost flightpoint on the southern island, and ride west along its coast to Demolitionist Megacharge.
Fly to Socrethar's Rise flightpoint on Shadowmoon Valley's southern coast () jump down the cliffs to the west into the water, and ride or swim east/southeast to the island.
Fly to Pinchwhistle Gearworks flightpoint on Spires of Arak's eastern coast (), and ride or swim east to the island in Shadowmoon Valley. If you have a Elixir of Water Walking or Reins of the Azure Water Strider to move more quickly you can ride due east, but if you're swimming, you might want to hug the coast more closely so you don't succumb to fatigue.
If you don't have any of those flight points, get to Spires of Arak's east coast, and ride/swim east to the island, as rocks along Shadowmoon Valley's southern coast prevent getting into the water except at Socrethar's Rise.

Bug Note: If you don't get credit when looting, and double-checked you weren't in a raid, try logging off and back on; just reloading may work too. Failing that, hearth back to garrison, and if you still didn't get credit, drop and reaccept the quest.

Bag Space Tip: After you get credit for completing this quest, you can safely delete Megacharge's Cookbook from your bags. It's just for interesting reading. Each Harrison Jones quest chain leaves a similar soulbound book in your inventory (click for list).

2. Dark Grimoire: The First Ingredient: , jump on cart, jump on its edge, and stand on its wheel to reach the hanging bag. If you have Falling Flame from Timeless Isle, using it afterwards will launch you to the location of the detonator needed for the next quest.

3. Dark Grimoire: The Second Ingredient: , crate is floating underwater.

4. Dark Grimoire: The Final Ingredient: kill and loot 5 Demon's Bloods from demons around Socrathar's Rise (southern region of Shadowmoon Valley's mainland). The shore is mostly blocked by cliffs, except for a ramp at northwest of the previous quest's crate; you can ride up the ramp, or use Aviana's Feather or a similar flying ability.

Fel Imps (10k) health are the easiest source of bloods, but there are not that many of them. They spawn in packs of five imps, and typically drop around two bloods per pack. Two packs spawn around , two packs spawn around , two packs spawn around , a pack patrols back and forth up the hill around , and a nearby pack patrols around the Demon Gate circle at .

Other demons there include Nightshade Consorts (420k health) and Sargerei Demonlords (860k health) which usually drop one blood each, and spawn around , , and . Succubuses (48k health) spawn in a number of locations, often with another mob.

5. Dark Grimoire: Breaching the Barrier click on swirling portal at (on the ground, not above on the hill), then jump over purple runes/beams in the cave to get the Grimoire of the Nameless Void. Abilities like blink, displacer beast, and disengage (tricky) can help, speed boosts can help with longer jumps, a glider can help, but Aviana's feather is reported to not work. Even without special abilities, you can make it over hugging the right side of the cave with three jumps: two over the horizontal beams, and one kind of up the rocks a bit as you pass the round rune to the left.

Once you click the grimoire, double-check that the quest is ready for turn-in, then hearth back to your garrison to turn the quest in to Bodrick Grey (Alliance) or Rokhan (Horde).

A screenshot demonstrating more closely where you ought to stand in order to reach it here (I apologize but I already looted the item before thinking to take this screenshot, so you can't see the item in this shot anymore, but this is where you would stand to get it). FYI: if you're bad at jumping like I am, don't worry; you just need to get on top of the cart, which is easy to jump on from the ground.

I found it was a little more complicated than just jumping on the cart. You have to get onto the rim of the cart, which can be tricky. I found the best way was to jump from the cart bed onto the rim on the side opposite from the hanging quest item, then carefully walk around the rim to the platform you need to be on to reach the item.

If you don't have the Reins of the Azure Water Strider, make sure to have a few Elixir of Water Walking/Draenic Water Walking Elixir

Fly to Socrethar's Rise or Darktide Roost fly point.

If you don't have either of these, you can fly to Twilight Glade, in Shadowmoon Valley.
Then travel south to Darktide Roost.

1.
• The coordinates for are located in the vicinity of 56.3,91.9
• Kill him and loot the Megacharge's Cookbook.

2.
• Travel up the hill to the coordinates 63.7,93.9 for the Precision Blasting Powder.

3.
• Travel to the waters between Darktide Roost and Socrethar's Rise at coordinates 50.5,89.6.
• Go underwater to click the High Voltage Detonator.

4.
• Travel to Socrethar's Rise roughly to coordinates 49,82.
• Any demons here will drop the Demon's Blood, but I've found the best targets are the Fel Imp due to the low health of less than 10k and their numbers.

5.
• After you have collected all 5 Demon's Blood, travel to coordinates 43.9,77.5, grab the flight point if you don't already have it.
• Travel to coordinates, 42.6,74.1, by going up the hill next to the flight point and jumping down one ledge at a time.
• Click the cave's "instanced entrance" and enter (avoid touching the light beams and circles on the ground).
• The best course I've found it on jumping over the beams and hugging the right side of the wall.
• Loot the Grimoire of the Nameless Void, and turn in the quest at your garrison.

If you're a feral druid i found it a lot easier to jump the barriers not being in Cat Form

Had difficulty turning in the First Ingredient quest even though the quest item (a sack) was in my inventory. The auto turn-in message didn't appear above the quest log (a question mark on a red background).

Don't bother to return to your garrison, just log out and back in. Worked for me.

If you get on the woodpile closet to the bag of explosives, then you can jump onto the platform that is underneath it. Very easy.

Pro tip:
If you have Throbbing Blood Orb , this will help a lot. You can just jump over the annoying lasers.

How to get across the trap. Turn around backwards and walk backwards. It always shoots you backwards. So you end up inside. Same trick to get out.

I could not click on the Grimoire inside the cave. A relog didn't work to fix the issue. I flew to spires of Arak air space, then returned. I opened the cave again, and just flew over the trap, and this time the book was clickable. A relog didn't work to fix the issue.

If you have flying, try just flying straight into the cave, hugging the right wall. By the time it dismounted me, I was on top of the quest item.

If you have "Skull of the Mad Chief" this works to get over the beams/runes. It was a pain for me on my Death Knight, so just thought I'd add my two cents.

Dark Grimoire: The First Ingredient

Description

You will need three ingredients to make Megacharge's special "Arcane Bunker Buster," which should be able to take down the barrier. The first ingredient, some precision blasting powder, should be available nearby. The book reads: "To make one, you'll first need to acquire some high grade, precision blasting powder. Here in Blackfuse Company, it's pretty easy to come by, since they use it for all of the cannons."
