Dog is slow and kind of dumb. Sometimes he'll get stuck at the last corpse you killed for no reason. If you're too close to one of his other quest objectives (like the whale) he'll run off and do that instead, even if he's already done it. Just unsummon and resummon and he'll be back at your side.

I kited the Rockshell Snapclaws in circles around him until they died. He'll swim up and nom on them. The corpses don't disappear, so don't worry if you don't get to loot before he gets there.

Two tips:

1. Dog can eat Snapclaws that die even if they weren't tagged by you! If you see someone else killing one, swim up and help finish it off. Everyone's Dog will eat it and get credit.

2. Make sure Dog is out next to you when the Rockshell Snapclaws die. He can get stuck and despawn sometimes while you swim around.

quest will glitch if someone nearby is on the quest too. the "dog" npc will stop following you and will start following the other person nearby. you will not get credit for any kills and he does not come back. you'll have to leave the area and come back for it to work again if you do not also have the quest "walking dog". if you have that quest you can just blow the dog whistle to bring him back.

Little tip on how to stay on top of the glitch that causes Dog to either disappear or stay at the last body killed, causing you to lose credit for SnapClaw kills. Simply "Set Focus" to Dog by right clicking his portrait after targeting him and clicking Set Focus, that way when the focus target disappears you'll know you have to resummon him.

Tip i found, don't go near the boat, it makes him buggy.

Aim for the crabs away from the boat and it should be ok till Blizz fix this ( which is unlikely )

I've had so many problems with this quest till one day i was 133 rep away from revered. I HAD TO DO SOMETHING QUICK! i tried what tyro said. "1. Dog can eat Snapclaws that die even if they weren't tagged by you! If you see someone else killing one, swim up and help finish it off. Everyone's Dog will eat it and get credit."
I tried that, and it didnt work. so i did a google search and went to other websites, and here's what i did that SOLVED MY SITUATION! accept the quest off of someone else's dog, and then go to captain "soggy" su-dao at location 55.67 - 72.50. He's in the hut, and talk to him, and tell him that you've lost the whistle and he'll give you a new one. IT'S SO EASY but heavily bugged.

Sometimes Dog will be too far away and won't eat. I'm ranged and tend to stand pretty far away from what I'm targeting. I found I had to move quite a bit closer or Dog wouldn't see the Snapclaw.

my inventory got full while (4/10 fed) doing this quest, so i went back and while selling off junk i turned in Walking the Dog and lost the summoning whistle. could not complete Dog Food so i just abandoned it

I found that you have to complete a previous quest that involves leading dog around to three different sites, before he will 'eat' the remains of the snapclaws.

If you kill two (or more) snapclaws at once, the dog will "explode" them in a quick succession, but he will only eat the final one (so you will get only 1 credit for the quest). If you kill more at once, kill one and wait before the dog eats it before killing the others.

My quest log was full, so I could not accept this quest, and I just hope that I will be able to accept it later, now that I completed Walking Dog.

I would summon him, kill one, desummon then re-summon to kill another. tedious, but wastes less time than trying to get him off the distractions and slowness.

I figured out a way to make this work. Aggro a Rockshell Snapclaw. Wait 1-2 seconds for the "Dog" to face him. Kill the Snapclaw, loot, and let him eat it. Once the dog is engaged it seems to work every time. Spent 15 minutes trying to figure out how to make this work.

Just incase anyone is running into this issue during mop remix and found this post. If you some how got in the predicament I did.
You can abandon the quest if you dont have it already and find the dog near 45,78 ( near the sunken boat)
Then if you lost the dog whistle you can get it from the npc Captain "Soggy" Su-Dao
The quest for accepting it may show that port town but i found it near the sunken boat.

You have to summon dog with the shell while standing next to Deck Boss Arie after you pick up the quest Walking Dog.

This is the worst quest in remix by far. The respawn rate is atrocious, and the spawns are abysmal. It's taking me longer than it should for no reason.

If the dog could stop despawning for absilutely no reason (literally running along the floor with the dog behind me and it disappears) so that I wouldn't have to spawn it before every, single, kill, that would be insanely amazing...

If you are a hunter or other ranged weapon user this quest is going to suck because you have to be directly in front of the mob when it dies or "dog" will not "eat" the remains.

If you abandoned this quest in Remix and are confused how to get it back, talk to Captain Soggy in one of the huts, ask him for the whistle, which will let you summon Dog, who has the quest.

If the quest has bugged for you and you had to abandon it.... I got a new whistle after talking to Captain "Soggy" Su-Dao (even though i did NOT have the quest at the time) and summoned Dog. You can get the quest from him again.

This quest is absolute bs. He wont eat the corpses 95% of the time. I'm a warr so it's not a ranged thing either.

I can imagine this would be a little challenging as a ranged class but they don't hit that hard. The key really is to be sure that Dog is right there with you - he's a dog, he will wander off! But he can also eat the kills of other people!
