If you've already completed these quests pre-shattering, you may have trouble getting Sputtervalve to start this quest chain for you. I spoke with a GM who mentioned that it was a known issue, and that I should check back after each patch.

Note that the derrick/platform in the middle of the pond in the Sludge Fen is not the site for this quest. Even though there is a control room and everything else that looks as described in the Samophlange Manual, you can't interact with any of it. It took me a while to figure out I was in the wrong place.

Why Blizz did this is beyond me. The actual Samophlange is at a much smaller facility at 50.3, 25.7 on the Norhern Barrens map.

You do go up onto this platform to get the key for the quest "Ignition" Ignition, which you then take to back to Wizzlecrank's Shredder Wizzlecrank's Shredder nearby. He will then lead you west towards your destination for Samophlange Samophlange.

This quest to access the control console 4 years ago had the title "Samophlange". 2 years ago with another alt the title was still "Samophlange". The next 3 quests in the chain have the same name too.

The quests I see changed are the new Samophlange Repair QID 14003, and Read the Manual QID 14006, which used to be called Samophlange Manual QID 3924.

The old Samophlange quest description before being changed was,

"The Venture Company set up a small research facility far to the north of here, southwest of the Sludge Fen. I don't know very much about what they're doing, but did manage to discover that they're experimenting with something called a "samophlange".

Now what the heck is a samophlange? Well, whatever it is, I want to examine it, so I need someone to go get it.

I obtained a copy of their control system operating manual, you should be able to figure out how to disengage the samophlange from it."

The "Samophlange" quests chain is no longer available as confirmed by a GM:

Be sure to get your flight path here and at Mor'shan Ramparts as soon as you get close. It will save a fair bit of walking / travel time!

I'll post this in a couple places where it will be sure to be seen and therefore useful. (rather than after doing a lengthy quest chain and saying "OH SURE.. NOW he tells me"

Your only requirement to complete the quest for the rings from the harpy, is you must be level 12. Darsok Swiftdagger opens up his short 2 quest chain as soon as you hit level 12, with no lead in quests. If you are close to 12, head over and kill some of the beasts until you level up.

As soon as you are level 12, you can accept the quest and continue on your harpie killing spree for the 2nd bis ring for horde pre lev 19.

This assuming that most people viewing this page are trying to get the +3 intel ring, which is one of 2 bis until level 19.

If you happen to be in my situation, where you had done these quests pre-cata, and now the questline is bugged, and won't allow you to continue, quest sync with someone who has not done Northern Barrens, and you can complete it as normal. Questline has no requirements other than being above a minimum level, so you can just head right there and do it.

If you're unfamiliar with quest sync, the person doesn't even need to be in your zone, just party up, hit the button on the map, and any quests one of you have not done are available. Note that you will also be synced to their level.

Finally my Northern Barrens section of AllTheThings isn't screaming at me.
