I thought you had to find the actual grave, but you only need to enter the building and then use the ring.

After you use the ring, the Mistmantle brothers Stalvan and Tobias would face off with each other...

Stalvan Mistmantle says: My ring... Who holds my family ring... Tilloa, is that you?
Tobias Mistmantle says: Brother!
Tobais Mistmantle says: Tell me it's not true, brother. Tell me you didn't die a murderer!
Stalvan Mistmantle says: Tobias...

<Tobias turns into worgen form>

Stalvan Mistmantle says: Aren't you feeling it right now?

Compared to the old quest chain, this revised one gives more of the backstory of the legend of Stalvan. But a new question is brought up... Was Stalvan already infected with the worgen plague when he committed the murders? Or was he simply a man driven mad by his perceived betrayal by his "love"?

Just a note, make sure you actually get aggro and kill Stalvan yourself otherwise you won't get the kill for the quest and will have to call him again and redo it.

They ruined this questline for me, it used to be one of my favourite ones when you had to travel to all the different zones Stalvan went to and recover his diary/letters while getting attacked by ghosts telling you to "not meddle in the past", instead you just go to two or three places in duskwood.

Also the ending was a bit dissapointing to me. In the old questline everytime I went to kill Stalvan I felt kind of bad for him. Eventhough the diary/letters made it clear he was guilty of murder, his words were anguished and heartbreak drove him to commit those crimes, "The blood I shall spill pales in comparison to the tears I have shed". Making the villainy of his crimes a bit more grey, whilst in this version it feels like they removed any doubt of his evilness and just made him a stereotypical bad guy.

During pre-patch, as a level 15 Worgen, this quest bugged out on me. I killed Stalvan, but Tobias was not in his house to turn in the quest (even though there was a question mark there). I went back to the Manor and used the ring again -- since I had completed the quest, the extra action button was gone, but I could just click on the ring in my bag. The scenario played out as second time, I killed Stalvan with Tobias's help, and then I was able to turn in the quest as Tobias now appeared in his house in town.

I think the issue might have been a Horde player with PvP turned on, who was getting attacked by Tobias during my fight with Stalvan.

Take the ring into the woods to the north, to Manor Mistmantle, where Stalvan's body was buried. Enter, and hold the ring before you. Let the waning moon pour its light through the ring, and the spirits will answer your call.

Take heed, <name>. The questions of the living can offer more comfort than the answers of the dead.
