Don't attack Kvaldir, Attack the guards that are wailing on the Sea Witch's. He hits hard, and if he gets you, there is no heal available.

ok so the best way to do it is use the charge, run away so he dosent attack you then charge again rinse lather and repeat he'll be down quick. :)

When I got to him, someone else already was fighting him and he was gray. I joined in anyway, figuring he'd die faster, and I got credit when he died.

So don't worry about being the first to tag him.

Keep the sea witches protected and let them cast. Look around for the ones that are not casting. If they are being attacked toss your rope and pull the attacker to you. Don't charge as that will keep the witch in the battle to kill its attacker. You want her to start casting again ASAP. After trying this method I completed this quest with nearly full health.

I did what some of the others did and charged, backed away and charged again.

You will notice he gets a debuff called Weaken Flesh which means he takes additional 100% damage I noticed this stacks 3 times... I then charged and then Soul Striked, I could deal alot more damage that way and he was down before I knew it.

I simply found him with a little health gone so I used (3) -Vicious charge, (1)- soul strike, and repeated that over and over. He hardly hit with me spaming (1) and (3).

It seems that if you die, he retains the same hit point count as he had when you first fought him. At least, that's how it went for me.

Incidentally-- also for me --I got knocked out of the vision and into the "real world" when I died against the boss. Had to re-attune and watch the opening cutscene again.

This is definitely the best strategy. Also, I kept having to 're-attune' to the blade after dying. The sparkling object and vision have several locations. I also had to drop the quest and re-acquire it a couple of times. All in all, very frustrating at this point. But don't give up because it can be done if you are persistent. Hopefully, some of these issues are just fine tuning.

This is what I did (on second try) and it worked.. Once he spawns, the npc's there will begin at him. Get close enough to him to either hit 3 and/or 1 and then spam 1. He will eventually throw you back. Hit 3 to get back to him and spam 1. Keep doing this until finished.

There are up to 5 Sea Witches stationed around him and are firing a beam at him. For each beam, he will gain a debuff which increases the damage he takes by 100%. 5 beams = 500%. Occasionally, he will order his cronies to attack. When that happens, they go for the sea witches and the witches are forced to fight the kvaldir instead of keeping the beam going. Therefore, if you kill the kvaldir that are bugging the witches, you get more damage against him.

Whenever you do decide to attack him, yes the best strategy is to charge in, hit a couple times and back off if you wish. If he has 500% damage debuff, your Soul Strike will heal you for more, which makes it easier for you to take his big hits.

tldr:

Kill adds attacking sea witches so they can debuff him for you for easy kill.

For those who haven't done the quest - it's definitely doable; you can spend a lot of time on it, but considering the epic gear and 100 gold, it's definitely worth doing. Not. A lot of work and annoyance for 48K, or two dailies. Unless you're going for the achievement, drop this mistake like a hot rock.

After I killed the leader, I tried to swim back to where the quest giver was on my map. There was no one there (no friendly mobs anywhere) so I swam down to where you activate the blade to get into Battlemaiden form and all I saw were ghosts.

I logged out then back in and appeared in the graveyard. I swam back to reactivate the blade and complete the quest.

Don't forget to throw the old shard out of your bag if it is still in there. it caused a heap of trouble for me trying to get the quest from Fathom-Lord Zin'jatar again

Okay.. I died.. I went back to the original spark to re-attune.. Jumped back into the battle and killed that dude. But then Quest Giver vanished. All I had to do was to click the ? symbol and then press "Complete" button.. LOL!

Epic fail on this questline Blizz. This crap is way too annoying to complete without any 3D clues from your mini map and quest GPS, especially if you have any breaks in the questline and have to go back and pick up parts later.

How I did this: just run up and spam charge and soul strike. When your hp gets low, click the red exit arrow and go back outside. Enter again and go back to the boss, it will remain the same hp. Then just spam charge and soul strike again and repeat. I needed to exit twice before beating it. It requires no skills with this method.

Alright, in case you "can't find" the boss again after dying and you are standing on the skull on the map, you are probably on the lower level. go up on the terrace, he's there.

Might seem obvious to some, but it took me some time to figure it out :P i suck a 3D navigation ^^

While all of the methods listed here are good, there is an easier way. The guards and sea witches are actually more than strong enough to take him down. The battle starts the minute he comes into view. Simple approach, click him so as to keep an eye on his HP, wait until the guards/seawitches whittle down his HP (around 1K), then rush in and finish him off.

I didn't know the best way to do this quest my first time through, and I found that as I was low on health and Varkul was only at half health, I left the vehicle and it ported me back to where I began the transformation. I swam back, and found that the Sea Witches were still fighting Varkul, and as I rejoined the fight at full health, I got credit for the quest even though I joined it when he was at 10%.

FYI... if you back off (for example, swim up), it will allow you to leave combat - and you will heal.

Each time you die his health stays down, so if you keep plugging away you WILL kill him :) worth it to get the quests after.

This task is part of a Naz'jar Battlemaiden vision. If needed, use the Blade of the Naz'jar Battlemaiden at a time focus to return to the vision.

Description

The Kvaldir leader has shown his rotting, ugly face but a short swim from here, down this hall to our west. We kill him now and the Kvaldir occupation of our once beloved city shall be ended.

Beware Battlemaiden, for he is no weakling. He has many Kvaldir at his command. Some Sira'kess Sea Witches have been dispatched to weaken him during your attack, but they will be interrupted if you let any of his Kvaldir attack them.
