Im guessing you have to stop the raid at each section and either hearth or run back to him to get the next part of the infusion quests since you cant get all 3 at once. Gonna be like strat with people hearthin out for quests all over again :P
if anything itll be a free bio break for whats turning out to be a really long raid, like BRD on hell mode.

So from what I am reading from the boss abilities and the description in the quest objective, this is my theory about how you get this done.

Strategy: You become one of the abominations that will be eating Mutated Slimes. Since the quest text says "Find a way to absorb his mutated slime", this makes sense since you are technically obsorbing the slimes when you eat them. You will have a new button in your Abomination vehicle that says Shadow Infusion. This ability can only be used once you have gathered 100 energy in your Abomination vehicle, it should take between 30-60 seconds to gather the 100 energy. Based off the information below, it is recommended that you use the Shadow Infusion ability when the boss is around 40% health.

It is critical to notice the infusion buff only lasts 6 minutes. If you do not deteat the boss within the 6 minutes, you have to infuse the weapon all over again.

I need some important details, if anyone knows:

Do you need to have Shadow's Edge equipped to use the ability? (I suppose that you do)

If so, once u got it infused, can you change your weapon (ex: to 1h-shield) and still do the quest?

for anyone who has done this, is it possible to have a tank use the abom until 40 percent then swap out for the person doing the quest to infuse themselves? my tank set is not good enough to be one of the tanks taking blows for putricide so i see this as a potential problem

Waiting before boss below 40%, gain 100 energy, defuse axe waiting for spawn blob doting them and blow putricide for next phase. How start 3 phase blob have 40% hp or near kill she and etc.

I will be trying this portion of the quest line tonight. If you have the opportunity to practice this in 10m it helps. My plan is to keep one slime pool up longer than normal (throughout the whole fight) instead of just immediately consuming both each time he creates them. This way I should easily be at 100 slime energy all the time until I have to debuff one of the experiments. Thus I'll be bouncing from 50%-100% during the fight. Then when Putricide is <45% health I will debuff the next experiment with the slow, and I won't worry about debuffing him with the melee attack. I will immediately start consuming a pool until I get 100%, infuse Shadow's Edge, then continue drinking the pool until I have 50% and then resume debuffing the experiments up to phase 3.

I will update tonight after raid and let ya'll know how it went.

Can anyone confirm that Revitalize gives 'Goo' to the abomination? If so, having 2-3 Resto druids using Rejuv+WG on the Abomination during the fight is going to help alot, especially for the 30 seconds before and after you've casted Shadow Infusion.

So im kinda confused.... as a ret pally shud i change specs to prot with shadow's edge equipped or stay in ret spec and drive the abomonation the whole fight

I did this quest tonight. It's annoying, but not that difficult. I am a dps DK, and tanking is my offspec. Usually we have our OT control the abom, but of course I had to do it tonight. Here's what I did:

1) Right click the table and become the abom. Spam 1 on the pools you see to drink them up and collect energy. You will hit the 1 button about 987,000 times during the fight. It sucks.

2) When you see a green or brown slime, be within 45 yards of it, make sure you have 50 energy, and press 2 to slow it.

3) When the boss hits roughly 40%, you will use an ability on your bar which has a picture of the Shadowmourne Axe, to infuse it. You can't miss it. It costs 100 energy to use, dropping your energy to 0. You need 50 energy to slow slimes. So get 50 energy as soon as you can and slow the next slime. I called out on Vent that it would be a second to slow it, and it got to a couple of people but nobody died, and then I got enough energy and slowed it.

4) In phase three you're ejected from the abom. Stay alive, kill Putricide and you're golden.

Just make sure you have the axe equipped when you jump into the abom. Just to be on the safe side I ended up tanking Putricide in P3 with the axe, and I got my quest completed.

hi guys

im having a little bit of trouble with this quest as a few people in my guild are convinced that if we do it at 40% it will make the fight alot harder and will result in a slime not being slowed. is that actually true or if the timing is right and i work the slime pools to my benifit can it actually be done without making it dificult? also we are doing the tactic that the OT takes the abomination for the 1st 60% of the fight yells up a pally removed it and i drink up. so there is a few secconds where there are slime pools up with no abomination, would you recomend that i go prot for this stage and just tank at the end? and also some confirmation on the revitlise and the disc shield wouold be good as well as we have a bunch of them in my guild then i think that could actually sway the fight.

any input would be great guys thanks

Well, first off, having someone other than you run the abom for the whole fight isn't smart. Running the abom is the easiest job in the whole fight, without exception (this includes just being a regular melee running around dps'ing and dodging flasks etc). Second, the time delay between him being abom and you finally picking it up definitely has a chance to leave unnecessary slime puddles growing. At this point, the loss of one dps (you) to be in the abom for P1&2 is no big deal, the fight is fairly simple on normal mode and there's plenty of time to kill him.

I actually played third tank since I play both dps main and second string OT; however, that doesn't change anything in doing the abom part. Just run in behind the main tank and click the table and run back out to the center of the room, by the time you get back to the center you'll be transformed. Don't wait around at the table once you click it. The rest is easy. Look around for puddles, get there fast and slurp. You'll always have the puddles down before a slime is mobile if you run to them quick and slurp - no melee button! Sometimes it'll be spawned but there's a long cast bar before it's mobile. That gives you time to get the last slurp or two on a remaining puddle before running toward it. The slow ability is a range attack and you can be a few yards out from it (make sure you target the slime). Then back to puddles and slurping. I repeat, no melee button anytime! There's no reason to use the melee button - advanced users can, but for the quest, don't touch it. Just slurp, slow and eventually buff yourself for shadowmourne. The buff should be clicked during a green slime phase anywhere between 40% and 60%. I did it once at 60% and still had plenty of time to kill the boss, but a tank died and we wiped. I still had a minute to spare on the buff when I buffed myself at 60%. So the key is to choose a point between 40% and 60% that's a green slime phase. When decided, let the raid know it'll be a fast green slime so they will know to be ready to stack on the targeted person quickly to share the damage. The stacking will probably happen three times max and the slime will be dead. While they're doing that, you slurp up all the slime for that cycle of puddles and click your buff. The buff takes about five seconds to cast, so make sure all the slime puddles are gone before you do it so they don't grow while you cast the slow buff on yourself. Then it's back to the usual: slurp and slow until P3. If you're good, you'll have no puddles up going before each slime is spawned, none when you buff yourself, and none going into P3, or one that's small. Then kill him and turn in.

Things to remember:
Equip your weapon if you are going to play OT like I do. If you don't and equip it after you're an abom, you won't get the buff on your bar to click. This happened to me once and we killed him, so I had to wait one more week.
Stay alive in P3. You lose you buff if you die. This happened the next week and so I had to again wait one more week.

Note: I should say that we use the strat of tanking Prof P near or on the green slime spawn spot for P1 & P2, except moving for flasks. And for P3, the first tank stands at the door to give the longest run before he starts applying tank debuffs. And we run stacks as 3 on first tank, then 3 on second, then 4 on third. By then he's dead. Worst case is we rotate back through to the first two tanks so they get one more each, leaving tanks with 4 / 4 / 4.

this is a very easy quest all you gotta do is collect 100 energy and infuse youre weapon with the extra spell you get. You gotta have the weapon equiped when u enter the abom else you wont have the extra ability.

i waited till about 45% and called out i wouldnt be slowing on the next green goo. untill then i just farmed energy by not completely eating the slimepuddle but rather w8in. When you get out the abomination it is safe to switch back to yer normal weapon. in my case my 1hander + the shield you will retain the buff and if you kill the boss before the buff expires you get it completed.

so to confirm you need to have the Shadow's Edge equiped when u enter the abom but its save to switch back to yer ordinary set when you get out in p3. havent seen anyone post this so decided to share ^^.

Does anyone know if you have to have the axe equiped? Can you control the abomination with tanking gear on and still use the ability if the item is just in your bag? The reason I'm asking is that normally an OT controls the abomination and if I can go protection and still do this, this is probably the way to go.

The facts:

-You NEED to have the Axe equipped inside the Abomination.
-You NEED 100 Energy to cast the 4 second infusion. Your Abomination will "explode" with green Unholiness.
-After you get your infusion, and your raid pushes PP into P3, you do NOT need the Axe equipped to complete the quest.

I finally did this quest last night. I am not going to lie I was nervous controlling the abomination as it was my second raid in a new guild. This quest is so easy assuming you have a good raid to kill Professor.

This is all you need to know:

1) Walk upto the table right click a vial which will turn you into an abomination

2) Go on green pools on the floor and press 1

3) You will see orange or green slime come out form above. When it runs into an add simple press 2 to slow it

4) When the shadows edge ability lights up on your toolbar simply press 6. The ability takes about three seconds and you need 100 energy points.

You will not be able to slow the next add. No big deal if you have a competent raid.

5) P3 of professor you are no longer in the abomination. I just stood off to the side to make sure I didnt die. I actually put on tanking gear and shield walled to be safe.

6) Professor dies quest complete

Notes:
I did the shadows edge ability twice just to be safe. So two slimes were not slowed. It wasnt a big deal at all.

ok one thing nobody has mentioned at this moment in time (or i havent seen but i might of missed it) is that the malleable goo also gives u abom ooze power/energy or whatever it is, as your sucking up ooze and u notice a malleable goo try and get to the spot where it lands (but sucking up ooze is priority) it will give u about 20 ooze so if u get the timing right u can infuse your weapon suck up a little ooze and some energy from malleable goo and still slow down the next ooze pretty easy enough personally i found this works but instead i prefered to go with the infuse weapon when last add of part 2 is up, although that can be a bit tricky as someone who hasnt done suit that much might miss the oppurtunity and end up getting tear gas'd during the 4 (or 6) second cast and fail to infuse the weapon (thats happened to me once), also taking these into consideration u should be able to keep 5 stacks of your melee attack on boss and adds at all times (btw ive been doing the abom suit since PP come live so wouldnt advise someone who has never done it before to attempt all of that).

i did it today with 14 other 85's toons..
dps the boss..not using big CD's BL/TW till last phase...
notice that when you have 100 slime energy you need like 3 secs to actualy cast the unholy infusion spell....when you are abomination you get no visual notice to know that you have done it corrrectly but you will be able to see a buff on boss's 3rd and final phase..
if not sure you did it try again when you still have some slime to gather....i personaly did 4 of those infusion casts :))

A tip for people attempting this.

Don't fully deplete a pool until p3 is just about to hit if you're pugging ICC.

I failed the quest because I was at 98/100 energy on the abomination when it hit p3 because of trigger happy DPS who couldn't stop DPSing for half a second.

Let it be known that you cannot be in the abom when Putricide dies. We dps'd him too fast tonight and he didn't get his cast completed before he died, and I was still in the abom. I did NOT get any credit for the quest even with the buff from the infusion.

just had quest glitch was in abom with axe equipped got to 100 on ooze bar and didnt get option to infuse my weapon thankfully group fell apart at bloodqueen so if my ticket i just opened gets the quest fixed i'll be able to continue on the quest will let ya know what happens

<edit> Ticket was responded to and i was told "we can not update your quest to move on with the chain cause there is no proof that you had the axe equipped>
so if the abom glitches on you your screwed till raids reset so everyone knows

As on 5.0, this quest is broken. This is due to the fact that the abom's ability 'Eat Ooze' Does not work at all. Hopefully this will be fixed soon.

Unforttunately tonight at 18/9 seems still bugged. I managed to get the 100 energy, cast the infusion and when we killed the boss I did not get the credit. I did not damage him but I think this is irrelevant.

I opened a ticket with the hope they will do something but the GM told me that he cannot complete it for me since the devs have not given them the "go" to do it. He told me he is sorry but it is bugged. Go figure...

If you're doing Unholy Infusion at 90 with enough people and you zerg him down before he enters his final form, but you've done the Shadow Infusion with Shadow's Edge, this quest will bug out and not give you credit for the kill.

Did this tonight with 3 people on my DK. Waited until phase 2 started to jump into the Abom and while the other 2 people kited him around and DPSed him i get the 100 charge and infused it. the Abom then died by me standing in all the extra goo and I had the buff and could finish off phase 2 and push to phase 3.

A word of warning to you doing this with 15+ people. Make sure you are ejected from the Abom, or you will NOT get credit for the kill. My group killed Putricide before he could eject me, and I was not a happy camper.

We managed to get two death knights tonight infused with the Unholy Infusion. First one got in the abomination, got his infused, then our priest dispelled him. I jumped in with my death knight, did the infusion while trying to catch up on the ooze on the floor, and got the buff as well. I did cast it a few more times just to use up the ooze just cause we weren't slowing the slimes. We did phase three as normal. Both of us got credit on the quest.

We had five people. One disc priest, three death knights (blood, two frost), and one fire mage. The quest runners were 85 and 86 while the rest were 90s.

Just did this solo as a blood dk, get the boss down to 75%ish then pop army and raise dead, equip the axe and drink the potion on the table. Because you waited until 75% alot of slime should have spawned in 1 location giving you plenty to eat. After you've eaten enough to infuse, pop the spell, by this time the ghouls should have died off and he should be back on you again and he should be able to kill off the transformation you're in. After this it's just a dps race, avoid the slowing slime and move when he casts the 75% hit chance reduction vials.

Seems nobody here mentions any strategy on how to avoid resetting this boss after drinking the potion off his table and turning into an abomination....

After some solo 30+ tries on my warrior, I found the following:

- the Putrid Professor resets after I click on "Drink me!", to drink the potion off his table. This happens immediately after I turn into an abomination

- this reset is independent of the Putrid Professor's health

- this reset might happen when either I attack the professor or he attacks me, after drinking the potion off his table

- this reset happens even if I don't attack the boss

- this reset happens 9/10 times or more often

Any idea why this happens, or how to prevent this boss from resetting?

edit: after an addition 10 tries to complete this quest on my warrior (solo), the boss reset every time. I am now convinced that this quest is (nearly) impossible to solo on a warrior.

This is for the solo ICC25m.

Note to DKs trying to solo this: if you have a Plague Scientist controlled, make sure to dismiss and kill it before you get into the abomination. Otherwise it'll start buffing Putricide's damage and you probably won't be able to get the infusion done in time.

If you're doing this solo and he resets AFTER you get the buff from infusing shadows edge, you can burn him down once he comes back without having to go into the abom and get the buff all over again. The buff will stay on you for 6 mins. As long as you kill him with that buff, you'll get the infusion. Also, I only had shadows edge equipped when I hopped into the abom, to eat the slime, and then to "tag" him once with the debuff that shadows edge gives him when I burnt him down next time.

Tonight, in a 25H with about 15 people, we had 3 people who needed to do this quest. Two went fine with the boss being burned to about 40%, then slowly dpsed down. Once we got to the third person, they got dispelled too early, then had to start over. As they were casting the shadow infusion, he phase changed to his final form and the third person got kicked out of the abomination. So, you need to make sure that everyone that needs to do it is done before getting him to his final form or else they get screwed over.

This quest can be soloed as a Warrior. Just did it on an ilvl 564 Arms.
What you need is this trinket : Terracotta Fragment (and Crate of Kidnapped Puppies , but not necessary; I used both to be safe but the Terracotta should be enough). Have Shadow Edge ready to be equipped, and make sure you have Second Wind.

First phase: PP 100% to 40%. Just bring him down, and kill every blobs he summons. It is important that there's as less blobs as possible for the second part because they will attack you once you get off the abomination. The red ones are the most deadly if I'm not wrong. So make sure you have none of them alive before getting into the abomination.

Second phase: Abomination. When PP hits 40% or so, equip your Shadow Edge, use your trinket(s) to call your Terracotta warrior, hit PP (to make sure your Terracotta hits him too), , and drink the flask to become an Abomination. Spam 1 on the green jelly on the floor until you can press 6 (it's a 4 second cast). Ididn't find any way to get off the Abo so I just wait that PP kills it. As soon as Im off, I hit him right away, just to make sure he doesn't despawn. If done correctly, you will have a buff that lasts 4-5 min, which is more than enough.

Last phase: pop CDs; blobs will attack you so pop defensive CDs if necessary (their death triggers Victory Rush) and just nuke PP.

Unfortunately, there's no way to solo the Blood infusion.

As of 5.4.8

For heroic difficulty, as is most common these days:

- Have the Infuser confirm that Shadow's Edge is equipped, then start the fight by clicking table until they become the Abomination.

- As level 90 DPS is more than sufficient for Heroic ICC these days, have the group twiddling their thumbs instead of attacking boss until the Abom has the required 100 stacks to infuse Shadow's Edge, this won't take long at all.

- Because the slime puddles have a rapid expansion rate, deplete one completely then get the second close but stop short of full depletion. This allows it to continue expanding and therefore providing a continuous source of Mutated Slime for the Abomination, instead of having him standing around between puddle spawns.

- Upon reaching 100 stacks, Infuse Shadow's Edge, then kill Professor Putricide to completeUnholy Infusion requirements.

I've found this to be really handy in pugs with players suffering from selective instruction comprehension.

ok i didnt find a straightforward answer to the despawn of the boss during this quest. but after researching and doing it myself i can confirm the following when trying to do it solo:
- boss usually despawns after you mutate if you have aggro. assume its from the original fight mechanics.
- army of the dead will taunt him
- if hes aggro on something else, say army of the dead, then after you get in abom and you hit him, you get on his threat table and will attack you instead of despawning

so what i did that worked was:
- bring him down to ~50% health, when i pushed him to p3 i couldnt drink the potion so you gotta stay outta p3 initially
- at 50%, pop army and let them taunt boss, go grab potion real quick. there should be plenty of slime on the floor. if not, dps him a lil slower
- as abom spam 1 and absorb as much slime as possible as soon as possible. he dps's the abom hard. so you want to get that slime filled asap and then infuse at 100 slime.
- as soon as you infuse and its gone, attack boss before he kills all of army so that you get on his threat table
- after you get threat and see he doesnt despawn, just let him kill abom and then kill him normally.

with patch 6.0, him and pretty much all of ICC is cakewalk (so far)

Just soloed on my ret paladin. The trick to avoiding the reset is to click on the "Drink Me" table when he's casting Create Concoction. Continue reading though...

I equipped Shadow's Edge and DPSed him slowly, to give enough time for the Ooze to be created for you to eat. Once he casts Create Concoction, clicked the table, then stood in the ooze and mashed #1 in the vehicle Eat Ooze. The instant I hit 100 energy, press #6 Shadow Infusion. The boss was dead long before the 6 minutes were up.

You'll see the 6 minute buff on you as an indication you did this correctly and will get credit for the quest.

After two hours of failed attempts to solo this as a paladin, I finally got it down by changing the strategies already posted here. The problems I was having was getting into the abomination without the boss resetting, then keeping the abomination alive long enough to drink the oozes.

The first thing I would recommend doing is learning how to get into the abomination without letting the boss reset. Don't even wait for ooze to appear, just click the table right after pulling and and forget about the ooze until you have this part down. Like others have mentioned already, the trick is to mash your vehicle button #3 to attack the boss immediately upon transforming.

Once you get the transformation bit down, the method I would recommend is to pull the boss and don't do any damage. Keep him in phase 1 and move around the room to cover the floor with oozes. Once I had 5 oozes I started the transformation, used vehicle button #3 to attack the boss once, then ran around the outside of the room spamming vehicle button #1 to drink the oozes. You'll take slightly less damage as the boss has to move to keep up with you, and any time he stops to cast unstable experiment is simply a bonus.

After reaching 100 energy, keep in mind that using the button to infuse Shadow's Edge has a cast time. On my successful attempt the abomination was less than a second away from death, so there really is very little room for error.

This was originally a comment by Burninate, which you can find below, but as this was incredibly useful to me as a Retribution Paladin, I thought I'd repost this so more people can see. As of 6.0.2 I was able to solo this quest in the following manner:

First pull Professor Putricide, and wait until he drops three Slime Puddles. The third should be furthest from his table. Then use Speed of Light to rush to the table, equip Shadow's Edge and drink the potion. It's really important you equip Shadow's Edge before drinking the potion, because if you do it later, you will not be able to complete the infusion! When the debuff you get from drinking the potion has ~3 seconds left, use Divine Shield and you will transform into a Mutated Abomination instantly, and you will avoid the reset which happens when you drink it normally. It has really low HP, so when you transform, start kiting the boss around the pools while you spam Eat Ooze. When you reach 100 energy, use Shadow Infusion which will give you a buff for 6 minutes. The quest objective will be completed when you kill Professor Putricide with this buff, so you can either finish the job now, or get the Mutated Abomination killed, drink again, which will reset the boss, so you can burst him normally.

Solo'd this as a fury warrior 553

First of all I kited him around the room so that he drops enough green pools for me to use to infuse Shadow's Edge.

A trick I discovered to avoid the reset is to drink the potion AS SOON as he starts to cast Tear Gas, because at this moment he's not focusing on you (drinking the potion when you have aggro will reset the fight).

After I drink the potion and when I become abomination I run around the room avoiding his attack whilst spamming 1 to absorb the green ooze that he dropped earlier. Keep doing this until the Infuse Shadow's Edge ability becomes available, once you infuse the weapon let your abom die and nuke him, the 6 minute timer on the weapon infuse was not a problem as I nuked him in a minute.

For a warrior attempting to solo this, make sure there are plenty of puddles around the room, get the boss to about 40-50%, drink the potion, then when there's about 2-3 seconds left on the abom transformation cast Bladestorm.

Bladestorm is a 6 second ability that ticks damage every second, so when you transform you will have hit Puitricide and he will have retained aggro on you, thus preventing his bugging/despawning. Kite like a madman and smash your shadow infusion button when it's full and pray that Puitricide doesn't kill your abom while infusing.

I was only able to prevent the boss from resetting by using a trinket to summon a companion, such as Cannonball Runner or Barov Peasant Caller.

The only other important note that others haven't mentioned: Make sure you set the difficulty to normal! The abomination dies way too fast in heroic.

Ok so I couldn't find any decent guide on how to do this solo as a warrior, so I figured out my own strats after a few attempts. (Note: I did this on heroic)

1: dps the boss down to ~77-80% health and keep him there while you run around and wait for him to throw ooze everywhere. 3 or 4 bottles of ooze that has gotten some time to spread should be plenty.

2: once there is enough ooze it's time for the make or break part. go drink some of the Drink me! stuff and between drinking and turning into an abomination you need to damage the boss down to below 75% health so he moves onto phase 2 of the fight (you have about a second or two to do this). if done right the fight will not reset because the boss is busy with his phase transition.

3: run into the ooze and spam 1, the boss should be in his transition phase during this step so you have more than enough time to drink all the ooze you need and cast the spell that infuses the axe.

4: kill the boss before your 6 minute buff runs out.

and that's it.

So I just tried to get this done, for 1h! For me it worked eventually like that:

Drop hp to 83%, gather enough ooze, so you can run around as Abomination while gathering it. I was waiting for him to drop them 4 times and let them spread each a little, it was a fair amount then.

He's still on 83%, kill all Gas and Ooze mobs there, so you only have him left in the room, wait till he casts Unstable Expirement once more, kill that mob real quick (no AOE!) go to the table, damage him a little so he starts to cast his Gas thingy. That's the moment when you click the table, he will be in transition phase, so it's not resetting, but you/your Abomination will be stunned, so once you're free again, run around, try to avoid as much as possible hits while spaming "1" until you can infuse the edge. I had 15% HP left as Abomination when I infused it. After that just kill him.

Hope it helps.. It was very frustrating experience for me but worked out eventually. But really, if you find someone who's keen on helping you, take that option.

Spent about 25~ minutes on despawning almost every time, except for 2 times where I the abom died.

After giving it a thought about certain tactics, this is what I did and got it right away as soon as I followed these steps;

Get Saberon Protector (or similar procs)
Pull the boss, don't dps it lower then 90%
Wait him to spawn; puddle -> ooze --> puddle --> second ooze --> puddle
When the third puddle spawns, attack the boss untill the trinket procs (Saberon Protector)
As soon as you make the trinket proc, you click the table to transform into an abomination, make sure you don't dps the boss to 80%
Spam 1 as much you can by standing in the green pools, it gives 4 energy per cast, at 100, use 6 to get the infused buff, let the abomination die
Kill Putricide

After intentionally making my trinket proc Saberon Protector, I got the quest done right away.

Was able to complete on Heroic as a DK. Similar to other strategies, pull the boss and line up the slime pools in a straight line down the center of the room. After the third pool has been dropped, run to the entrance to the room and swap to Unholy Presence if you aren't already. Pop Death's Advance and book it for the table. About halfway across the room cast Army. Drink the potion and start spamming 1, running back and forth across the pools. At 100 energy press 6 and wait for the cast to go off. Once used let the abomination be killed off and burn the boss as normal.

Got it on my first try as a 95 arms warrior. Make sure you're wearing Shadow's Edge.

What I did;

1. Damage the boss to 85%, try not to use rend
2. Wait for 3 or so puddles to spawn on the floor, spread them across the room
3. Kill all oozes, wait for him to cast next Unstable Experiment, kill that, then get the boss below 80% to phase him. Be near the table
4. As he's throwing the gas, click the table to start transforming
5. Gobble the ooze whilst running around trying not to be hit, use the 6 key to infuse Shadow's Edge and then wait until you die
6. Kill the boss

I had a hard time pulling this off as a 100 Retribution Paladin, but then realized I was overthinking it a bit. I did this on 25-Man Heroic ICC.

Equip Shadow's Edge.
Pull Putricide and let him drop 3 puddles of ooze from Slime Puddle (I just kept pulling him straight backwards from his table, so he dropped them in a straight line).
Take his health down to about 82%. Do not hit 80% or he goes to Phase 2.
Once the ooze is down and his health is where you want it, walk over beside the table and hit him one more time to take him down to 80% (he'll start casting Unstable Experiment) and immediately right-click on the table to drink.
You'll turn into the Abomination while he's creating his concoction (keep an eye on his cast bar to see how much time you have). Run around in the ooze and spam 1 to fill up the ooze meter on the right of your vehicle display.
Keep doing so until the Axe icon lights up, then hit 6/click the icon to start casting Shadow Infusion (make sure you LET THE CAST COMPLETE). When the cast is done you'll see a "Shadow Infusion" buff on your character.
Kill Putricide.

I didn't have to do anything with Divine Shield, and I didn't have to kill the oozes. The key was getting him to 80% and then immediately drinking from the table while he was in mid-cast (before he even got to the table). His cast takes aggro off of you, and then when he goes to the table to make his concoction aggro stays off of you.

As a DK, this quest was quite easy. First just hit him down to 50% then use your army of the dead and drink the potion to become the abomination. Make sure the goo is covering the floor before doing it and just eat up and use the spell to infuse it. Then just nuke him down and enjoy.

All the recent tips I got here didn't help me much trying to solo this because he kept resetting every time I entered the vehicle. What did it for me at the end was spawning my ghoul+army+hitting him few times while inside abomination with 3. ability. That way he kept taking dmg and I finished the quest in the end without him resetting.

I'm having a lot of trouble with this. I can complete everything solo as described for unholy DK. I take him down to 50% or 80% cast army, gargoyle. Then use the table and eat up the goo. The vehicle gets to 100% energy but I Never get the debuff or action button to complete the infusion. Yes, I did have shadows edge equipped.

I never had the chance to complete Shadowmourne quest line when it was current. I decided to go back and finish the quest. As of right now Unholy Infusion is bugged.

Blizzard 6.1.0 known issues says

Icecrown Citadel: There are multiple issues with the Unholy Infusion quest.

One of the issues is that Professor Putricide will despawn once you drink the vile that turns you into the Abomination, resetting the encounter.

*update*
So the work around I found with this quest, was I had a guild mate come and aggro Putricide and then I transformed and finished the quest. If you try to transform while the threat is on you, the battle will reset.

Just did this on level 100 Retribution Paladin SOLO 25 Normal. Very Simple, no need for help.

1) Start fight. DO NOT drop his health below 80%, leave it in the 90's.

The 80% Tear Gas tactic makes this fight bug 9/10 times.

2) Let him drop about 5 pools of green goo spaced evenly around the room in a cirlce.

The pools will grow and make a running track for you. Wait until they all connect (or as close as)

3) Go to table & drink. Start running around the room within the green pools.

4) You'll mutate. Spam 1 as you run. When 6 lights up, stop and face him.

Don't stop running early. if you stand still before the 6 lights up he will kill your mutation before you can finish casting.

5) Press 6 and don't move.

Watch the cast bar. You should finish casting before he can kill your mutation.

CHECK: An icon of Shadow's Edge should now appear within your buffs with 6m under it.

6) Start attacking Putricide.

You've got 6 minutes, and his hits will soon remove the mutation which must be removed before he dies.

When he dies you'll get big text across the screen saying quest is complete.

Sup guys!

I just did this quest with my lvl 100 DK.

At the beginning of the fight, you need to let him place the first puddle near the table. After he has put it down, go to the center of the room.

There he wil cast "Unstable Experiment" and there will spawn a Green slime, do not kill it yet! Wait until he has placed his second puddle.

After you kill the slime, bring Putricide below 80% so he casts "Tear gas". When you aren't stunned anymore, start spawning your Army of the dead and run towards the table to drink from it.

The Army will take care of professor Putricide because they keep on taunting him so that the boss won't hit you when you are transformed in an abomination. And don't worry, Putricide will NOT reset because you are using your Army!

And then you just kill the boss after you did the infusion.

Worked for me as a DK (31/03/2015) and I hope this will help for other DK's too.

I just did this with a lvl 100 warrior. you need the ravager talent for this. This worked on my first try.

Just dps keep him above 80% until you get 2 or 3 (or even more doesn't matter) slime puddles in the room ( i did it with 2, since each puddle gives you up to 60 energy).

Don't mind the adds that spawn. As soon as you can enough puddles to your liking, get him to 80%. He will rush to make the concoction, while you drink from the table.

THIS is where you place ravager on the boss. You will be on his aggro table even when you transform into the abomination.

then just go to puddles, fill up on energy and cast shadow infusion.

Note: try to make it so when the boss stop making the concoction you are across the room with your abomination so you have time to do shadow infusion.

Edit: Paladins might be able to do this as well if they pick light's hammer or execution sentence and cast it on the boss before turning into an abomination.

Just solo'd as a level 100 Frost DK using the strat posted by Frogtag. I let 6 (I think) ooze puddles spawn then popped Army of the Dead as I was running to the table. Keep walking with the transformation and when the infusion button lights up face putricide and hit the button.

Also, you DO NOT need to have Shadow's Edge equipped to kill him. As long as you have the buff when he dies, the quest will complete.

FYI- as a Spriest carrying a lvl 87 warrior on 25 heroic... we had to make sure that we were never any closer than the 40 yd mark otherwise he or I would get the Unbound Plague buff which was basically an instant death for one of us. So melee and ranged should probably safely stay a decent distance apart to get this done without constant wipes.

After watching various videos and reading up on here i was still having a issue with the despawning until i read one tactic that worked for me and that was "as soon as you get control of the abomination press 3 and that will hit the professor and cause the agro to drop from your toon to the abomination" he despawns when his agro table drops so you must be fast.

engage the fight and stop attacking, let the professor make two pools so you will have enough to drink , as pools will grow up carry on with professor and when he will run making his potion drink yours, evolve but wait and don't spam 1 button, go into pool and as 1 button become active start drinking, there is enough time for drinking and making shadow infusion ( button 6) when done finish boss

So this is how i did it on my warrior!

Step1: Engage the figth let him make 2 pools
Step2: Get him near 80% HP (i had him 85%)
Step3: Drink the potion just before trasformation use Bloodbath and Ravager
Step4: You should turn before he starts "create concution" he may hit you couple times. He got my abomination to 50% hp
Step5: Start drinking the pools and cast Shadow Infusion
Step6: Kill him and return your quest!

Just completed this 30 seconds ago on my level 93 ret pally, 25-man HEROIC. Took a lot of attempts to figure it out as the Professor kept resetting.

Wielding Shadow's Edge, I let the Professor attack me while I moved around and self-healed (I didn't even use auto attack) until a large chunk of the floor was covered in green. As soon as I had three pools I began my attack on the Professor. Refusing to attack at all at the beginning of the encounter like this means you get lots of green pool without an overabundance of green and brown blobs.

So: didn't have to worry about the adds or even checking the Professor's health bar. Once I had my green pools I attacked the professor until he went to the table for his first time. As soon as he went to the table to prepare for his next phase, I also went immediately to the table and drank while the Professor was busy.

(Transforming to Abomination at any other time seemed to be all it took to cause a reset. Very frustrating. And if the Prof didn't reset, he'd still kill me too quickly if I transformed while he was attacking me. Bottom line: I discovered that if he's at the table, he's busy and I could do my Abomination thing. I made sure I kited him to the table first so I could jump on that drink the second he started messing around over there.)

Anyway, as Abomination I had just enough time to spam the "1" button in a couple of pools until the "6" button lit up and I could infuse Shadow's Edge.

That done, I switched to my regular weapon, popped all my cooldowns, and went to work on the Professor. Again, didn't sweat the adds.

So, you need to have Shadow's Edge in hand only until it is infused, per someone's comment below. It's now been tested and verified.

all the strats i read did not work for me. boss would always kill the abom and the energy would reset to 0. I couldnt get it to 100 AND get the 4 second cast off with the abom still alive. not at all. (did this on a warrior) so what I did, i let 5 pools spawn which was overkill, you probably only need 3. once the pools were spawned, I hit putricide to 80% and bolted to the table and drank. he transitions into phase 2 which takes about 20-30 seconds that he WONT be hitting you and gives you plenty of time to get full energy. run up to him, cast it. wait for him to finish phasing and let him take you out of the abom. i guess you could leave vehicle too, but its 4am and that didnt occur to me. once you are out of abom, kill and done.

Finally solo'd the quest on a level 100 Warrior after about 10 resets on heroic. Most the strats that I read have been mostly correct except for the difficulty level. 100% of the time when I switched to the abomination Putricide would despawn. Switching to 25 man normal enables Putricide to cast Teargas which is the key to this fight. After getting his health to about 82% and killing the oozes and 3 puddles as all the other strats suggest, kite him to the table and as soon as you push him below 80% he'll throw Teargas and will start on his next cast. This enables you to transform into the Abomination and you can continue on spamming 1 until you reach 100% slime and then 6 to infuse Shadowmorne. Hope that helps! First time posting after about 13 years of Wowhead lurking.

Tried to solo this a bunch of times this week as a ret Pally. I take Putricide to 85-ish% in 25 normal. When I am able to get a few puddles on the ground, I take him to the table and wait for him to cast something. Then I click the table and pop Divine Steed to create some distance, otherwise he tags me and resets the event. Even when I can avoid him to get the spawn, I can't spam (1) enough before the Abom is killed. Re-drinking resets the event. Pushing him to tear gas re-sets the event.

25 heroic lets you re-drink, but the Abom gets absolutely crushed and you raise the risk of getting caught and de-spawning the encounter each time. Managed to do it 3x before I got re-set. Guess I'll try to bring a friend or two with a taunt and maybe get the blood event done at the same time.

How I soloed as a DK:

Aggro Putricide.
When he drops the 1st slime puddle, move back towards the door a few yards.
When he summons an ooze, aggro the ooz only; don't kill it.
When he drops another slime puddle, again move towards the door some more.
He'll drop another ooze, and again you need to aggro it but leave it alive.
Again with the slime puddle. You should now have a big slime trail leading towards the door.
Again with the ooze, aggro it but leave it alive.
Return to the table at the front of the room.
Beat Putricide down to about 82 or 83%.
Pop Army of the Dead. This isn't to kill him but to hold his aggro. Trust me.
Quickly hit Putricide to reduce his health below 80% to trigger the next phase.
Immediately click a bottle of stuff on the table to transform into the fugley.
Immediately start spamming the '1' key on your new action bar as you dance around the slime and fill your right bottle bar up all the way.
As soon as the bottle completely fills and the number '6' key becomes clickable, click it to infuse your weapon.
When done successfully and the weapon is infused, you'll see a buff appear at the top where whatever other buffs and debuffs you have are, verifying that you've done the deed.
Kill Putricide.

There you have it. I read through a lot of these comments and found them helpful but nothing really spelled it all out clearly so... that's what I've tried to do here for anyone else reading this.

How to complete this SOLO, in the age of 110's, 840ilvl's, and Artifact weapons

I've tested this on multiple characters at this point. The only time I've had issues is when I've messed up. The good part is that if you do mess up, the fight simply resets and you can try again in about a minute.

Setup:

Set ICC 25: Heroic - This gives the boss as much HP as possible. You need control over phases, so it matters.
(Optional) Remove all gear EXCEPT Shadow's Edge - You obviously need the axe. Removing gear lowers your damage, and gives you control over his HP. There's nothing special about this, so if you need more gear, feel free. I've just found that it helps.

Steps:

Engage fight. Do not hurt the boss below 80%. Lower him as close as you can (81-83% is good.) You have time to do this.
Kill oozes if you'd like. Leave one up if you're paranoid. Not required, but won't hurt anything.
Allow him to place ground poison three times in different spots.
Once three ground poisons are placed, verify boss's health is above 80%. Go to the middle of the room.
Wait.
Once the boss begins to cast an ability (look for a cast bar) - Burst him below 80%. Immediately run to the table and drink. You should transform while he is running. This is very important.
Run straight into the poison clouds. Mash your 1 ability to drink and restore energy. Use the shadow ability (6) at full energy.
Once complete, allow the abomination to die, and kill the boss. You can use another weapon, once you've completed the song and dance above.
Congratulations! On to the next objective.

The issue with the fight is that it resets if the boss looks for a target and can't find one. This is, for the most part, a scan that enemy AI performs at a tight interval. When you transform, you can't technically be targeted for a very short amount of time. If the boss scans during this time, it won't pull a viable target, and the fight will reset.

To get around this, you need to push your short invuln window to a position where the boss isn't scanning. Sometimes you can get lucky, which is why some other methods work, sometimes. The only reliable method is when the boss AI is pacified. This happens when he's running back to the table.

When the boss is casting, he isn't moving. This is why you move him to the middle. By moving him to the middle, he will exit his cast and immediately begin running to the table, and have to cover distance in order to do so. This directly lengthens the pacification window during which the transformation can safely execute.

You hit the table during his cast in the center because the transformation does not happen right away. This gives you the biggest window to aim for with the delay involved.

As a note, I'm not sure exactly how the target acquisition works during his little table science routine. I've had it reset if I transform during this phase, so I'm sure he acquires targets at some points during it. Also, if you do wait for this cast, you run the risk of not surviving long enough in abomination form to completely charge your energy.

I tried all the more recent methods on him and nothing was working. I'd keep despawning as soon as I turned into an abomination. 3 pools, got him to just above 80%, every damn time. I happened upon Roemanish's solution below and it FINALLY worked for me. Do the above, but after the third pool get him near the table. Get him below 80%, let him start doing his thing at the table, and just make sure you're standing right next to him and you right click on him to auto-attack, use whatever ability the new bar lets you do to attack him ASAP. This transferred the aggro to the abomination and I was able to finish this quest up easy.

Unless I am missing something, he seems to always cast Tear Gas before phase 2, he also spends a lot less time to go into phase 2. I tired to do this thing 20-25 times right now and it seems impossible. I was able to transform into the abomination while he is casting Tear Gas, but the Tear Gas stuns me and I cant move until he has completed the transformation into phase 2, and then he kills me before I can get eat enough slime. I was "close" only 2-3 times where I was able to start the infusion but he killed me before I was able to complete it. And those 2 times I was super lucky that he started casting something just as I had enough energy.

I looked at the video guides for this and in none of those videos does he cast Tear Gas. Also, he spends a lot more time transforming into phase 2. So unless I am missing something, they've changed it? I dont understand. I gave up and killed him. I guess ill have to start bugging friends if I want to get this done at a later time.

So as a 830ilvl Prot Pally, I struggled with most of the recommendations below.
Reading through Saeljfkklhen's suggestion though, I took a similar approach

1. Prof to ~81-85%
2. Let him get three ooze puddles on the floor
3. Ran over to the table and clicked it
4. Instantly hit him with an ability to take him under 80%

This seemed to work well at not resetting the encounter, could then suck up the ooze and charge Shadow's Edge with no issues.
Did it on 25M Heroic, with only Shadow's Edge and jewellery equipped.

tried to do this tonight on my lvl 100 DK in Unholy spec, with a few strats mentioned here. The only thing that sucked though is I had taken all my armor off (which you don't really need to do apparantly till you hit 110) - and I got him down to 15% hp and he killed me. Ok, no big deal. I came back, he still had the buff on him. So I'm like, ok. I then kill him without the strategy... bad idea, as the quest didn't complete (yes, I was on 25m). Now gotta wait a whole week to do it again. :(

Just thought I'd share my experience doing this on 110 toon in patch 7.1 I was trying to follow the older guides but this is what eventually worked for me.

1. Aggro the boss and let the room fill up with goo (make sure you can run a loop around the room).
2. DPS the boss past 80% into phase 2. I found that my abomination was dying too easy in phase 1, in phase 2 the boss seems to stop more and you have more time to drink the goo.
3. Drink the potion once tear gas wears off run around spamming 1 until you can infuse your Shadow's Edge.
4. Make sure you have the buff and finish the boss off.

As long as I wasn't trying to do anything fancy when I was transforming I didn't have any issues with the boss resetting.

Have attempted this 10+ times on my warrior. I can confirm that the method where you instantly hit the proffessor with your "3" ability when you transform works. My issue is that I simply die before I can reach 100 energy. The abomination just gets 415K HP and is extremely squishy. So basically, I can get to the part so many claim is bugged, but it doesn't matter as the abomination gets killed before I can charge it 100%

Unless you are extremely desparate to do this alone, just have anyone come with you and save yourself the frustration.

For anyone having issues with the boss despawning when transforming into the abomination : it looks like you are no longer a valid target during the transformation, so you need to give the boss a potential target. I used Barov Lumberjack Caller, but any trinket that summons companions should be viable.

So, you've read a lot of comments, "hit the oozes", "transform while he is running", none of them work, right?
Well here's how i've just done it.
Let putricide drop 3 potions, each one a bit closer to the door, creating sort of a path.
Once you've done that, get him below 80%.
Get to the table. Don't do anything. Once he starts casting THEN you should transform, not before, or else it will despawn.
Now you have to hurry up and spam 1 as fast as you possibly can, and once your bar is filled then press 6, this one has a small cast time but you should be fine.
That's it. No "cheating" or anything involved. As a warrior, this was the only way I could find for the boss not to despawn, so if none of the other comments are working for you, you should try this instead.

It's 2018 and the "Get 3 potions down, get him to the table, burn till he casts, transform, gobble ooze till you infuse axe, then kill him" still works.

However, I noticed the transform isn't instantaneous now.
After you click the table ONCE, you should transform after a few seconds.
--->If you hit it twice you will end the encounter/glitch out.<----

In case you are having issues with the abomination just getting instantly kill when taking any hit or running into a pool, be sure you are not a holy pally with Aura of Sacrifice, somehow this bugs it and it get oneshotted from any damage it takes LUL

To complete this as a 110 prot pally, I first attempted the take off all clothes and 3 pool method. After the boss bugged several times I changed it just a little. First I wore my regular weapon (trinkets and rings too) the weapon just until I got the boss to 88%. Then swapped in the quest weapon.
Instead of dragging the boss out and around, I stayed around the table. I let him throw his potion, then when he began to cast Unstable experiment, I hit him, then immediately drank from the table and spammed 1. Took several tries of me being transformed, as I still didn't infuse the weapon until my 3rd try or so. It is possible. Just be persistent and patient! You can do it! And, it does show a buff on you when you get it, so you can be sure before you kill the boss!

I have just completed this quest as a 110 Fury Warrior and can confirm that as of the Battle for Azeroth Pre-Patch that this quest is doable. Took me a few tries, but it is not bugged and is working.

Thought I'd share a guide with what I've learned while farming for Shadowmourne at level 80.

The Sacred and the Corrupt

To get friendly rank with The Ashen Verdict, you need to kill all the trash and bosses up to and including Deathbringer Saurfang (you don't have to kill all the trash around the outer spire to get to the gunship).
25 Primordial Saronite are today quite cheap and can be bought off the AH without much gold spent.
Next, if you kill only Festergut and Rotface for the bloods while leaving the other bosses and trash up, you can do the next quest which requires you to kill 50 enemies and every Infusion quest plus have a chance for one Shadowfrost Shard from The Lich King in one lockout. This minimizes the time you have to spend to finish Shadowmourne slightly.

A Feast of Souls

There are more than enough trash and bosses to get this quest done in your current lockout you used to collect the reputation and bloods. If you killed the trash to get to Festergut and Rotface, don't worry, there are about 70-80 more enemies in the frost and blood quarters. Kill only the Blood Council among bosses.
The debuff on enemies which marks them to be consumed and counted for the quest will not be applied if you one shot trash. You must therefore remove all your gear except for Shadow's Edge, and use your lowest damaging abilities such as Death and Decay, or Consecration, so that the actual debuff on the trash is applied and so that you can gain progress towards completing the quest.

Unholy Infusion

Assemble a group with 2-3 more people (if you have 2 party members instead of 3, at least one of them need to have a combat ress). Personally I recommend to bring a (low level if possible) Warlock, I will explain why in the Blood Infusion section.
Tell your group to not damage the boss, they should only keep the aggro from you.
Before you click the table to become an abomination, wait until 4 of the slime pools have spawned. This is because the abomination's Mutated Transformation damage either ticks a percentage of the player's health, or it scales with the level of the player that use the table. It will easily kill lower level players, and can actually kill a level 80 as well.
Click the table to become an abomination.
Use the number 3 ability on your new actionbar to consume the slime pools when they spawn.
If the ability on your new actionbar is grey, move on to a new slime pool and it will be usable again.
When your energy bar to the right has reached 100, click the Shadow's Edge icon. When the cast is completed you are given a new buff and you can now kill the boss. To make the giant die, you may need to stand in the slime pools. You can also be dispelled by a Priest or Paladin due to the disease debuff which will remove the abomination.

Blood Infusion

This quest is why you need to have at least 2 or 3 more players in order to complete it. To prevent one-shotting the boss, remove all your gear except for Shadow's Edge and a few armor pieces, only so that you can kill the mind controlled people later, do not use any trinkets that has AoE procs or they can one-shot the boss.
Tell the other players to remove all their gear as well so that you and another player can kill them when they get mind controlled. Make sure that you do not use any AoE abilities while killing mind controlled people, or you can kill the boss. Tell your group to once again not to damage the boss and not to bite anyone, just let their timer expire and that they should become mind controlled after 1 minute.
Having at least one Warlock in the group allows them to use Burning Rush and lose health and be near death until they become mind controlled, then it's easier for you and the others in the group to kill the Warlock(s).
You start with for example one Death and Decay or Consecration so that you get the aggro, kite her out of it so that you don't kill her. After a short time you get the debuff which increases your damage and makes you able to bite other players. After 1 minute click the only ability on your new action bar while targeting a player to bite them.
When a player dies after you kill them, combat ress them if possible.
Bite non-bitten players 3 times and then kill the boss.

Frost Infusion

From now on you do not need the help from other players to finish any more quests for Shadowmourne, the rest is done solo.
As easy as the quest description says, simply stand in front of Sindragosa after four breaths have been soaked. Once the stacking debuff goes away you can kill the boss.

The Splintered Throne

This is the part of the Shadowmourne quest line which is the most drawn out. You simply kill all the Icecrown Citadel bosses every week in 25 man Normal or 25 man Heroic until you have collected 50 Shadowfrost Shard. If you saved The Lich King in your first lockout, you have a chance to get one additional shard. The drop chance for Shadowfrost Shards are higher in 25 player Heroic than in 25 player normal.

The Lich King's Last Stand

Kill The Lich King to get a Sealed Chest. Turn it in at Darion and you are given 5 items you can turn in to various NPCs at starting area to the raid.
You will be rewarded with: Reins of the Crimson Deathcharger, Tabard of the Lightbringer, Muradin's Favor, Sylvanas' Music Box and Jaina's Locket.

Follow the advice given here, as it all works. Watch some vids too if necessary. The issue I was having was I was looking at the green bar on the left side of the new action bar when transformed, not the yellow bar on the right side of the bar. Once the yellow bar is full and your number 6 (shadowmourne icon) is available, stop, then click it.

Well, I just experienced a glitch I don't see described here. On a lvl 111 DK. Went in, got Putricide to about 83%. Clicked the table, after 4 seconds, I disconnected from the game! Logged back in only to see the Abomination version of myself - WITH MY NAME - attacking Putricide. Couldn't click the table to transform again, got a message saying there were too many players as abominations. Had to wait for my own abomination to die in the goo and then click the table again!

Then after all of that, I got the boss despawn glitch. *sigh*

Putting this here in case someone sorts comments by Newest First: It is still possible to solo this in 8.1.5 as a DK!

As the highrated tactics tells you, drop 3 puddles on the ground. When he gets to 80%, click the table and then click Army right after. You will transform and they will count as targets so you won't insta-despawn. There should be enough time to infuse before your HP gets too low, if you didn't drop all puddles on the same spot, like I did in a few attempts. Yeah... I know, silly me!

Did this in BFA 8.2 today as a 110 Warrior solo.

Start fight in 25 man mode (heroic if you are worried about damage)
Bring boss down to just over 80% hp, but not less or you will have to port out and start over
Turn away from boss and wait for boss to drop the first puddle
Keep moving away and let him drop a second and third puddle; wait for both oozes to spawn
Take him back over to the table and click the table
Bring him down to 80% hp and wait to turn into the abomination
Go to the middle of the first puddle and spam the first ability until the energy bar is full
Face boss and press the fourth ability and then kill the boss

today 18/09/2019 after dozens of tries in more than 1 hour he keeps stunning me as abomination, cast too fast the table and kills the abomination way before can fill the bar. as I read the thing is get the aggro out of you but I need to solo and if nobody have the aggro he despawns. so I need a partner.

first I try with Terracotta Fragment, but the warrior die too fast so then my puppies come to the rescue. yup, the answer was in the Crate of Kidnapped Puppies. those buggers die fast but they gives me the chance to fill the bar and cast the 4 seconds thing just before die (I finish the cast at 5% HP), was really frightening because I never know if the abomination die by the cast of the axe of by PP. and nothing indicates me that was infused so, I took my chances and got lucky. ;)

so, YOU NEED a trinket of minionSSS. yeah give him enough targets to kill because if you give him just one, PP will kill him too fast.

Did this with the same mechanic the Blood Infusion is done (07. january 2020.)

- pulled a boss with my rogue (lvl120, 90k hp),
- got him down to 80% with autoattack, even before that he threw down one puddle,
- waited for two more,
- alt + f4,
- logged on my paladin, filled the bar with button 1, infused with button 4, my rogue was still there,
- got kicked out of abomination and finished the boss,
- quest completed.

DONE 01.04.2020 with a level 120 FURY warrior.

1.Keep your gear on as normally, but equip . -> Heroic Throw to start the fight.
2.Let Professor Putricide drop at least 3 goos around. I killed every slime that spawned.
3.Keep him at 80% or 11000 / 13100 hp.
4.Let him do his cast for the bigger goo, hit him one time with your whirlwind, do Heroic Leap from the middle of the room (do a test first) to the table.
5.Drink fast! (There is probably a 70-80% chance he will despawn, but if you time it right it will work)
6.Start running and spamming 1. You will lose HP really fast! Do this until the bar is filled to 100% (on the right side).
7.Push 6 or the Shadow's Edge button. I completed the casting with my monster with 2% hp left.
8.Kill Professor Putricide fast, before he gets to use his tear gas again. He did it on me with only 300 hp left, but everything went good in the end.

Hello everyone, I have just made an account here to share my findings. Hopefully it will be useful to anyone who is struggling with the other methods or just wants a lazy / easy method of doing it. 100% NO RESET - NEW STRATEGY - Done on 25HC Solo Paladin

Also another user mentioned if you have a pet just make sure it is out and there is no need for any strategy method, so if you have access to a pet then just use that.

First off this method does not matter whether you take your gear off or not, as long as you have Shadow's Edge equiped.

Do not kill any mobs we will need them for this to work.

1. Start the fight either taunt or tap him lightly
2. Wait until he throws 3 green vials around the room, anywhere is fine as long as they are spread
3. As he has thrown the third vial feel free to drop him below 80% (anything below 80 is fine)
4. When he starts casting his long cast after running to the table, stand with him at the table but do not click it
5. Wait for the green mob to stun you using the green ray beam and you can now click the table
6. You will notice that now you will not despawn the boss and can collect all the oozes, do not worry about the boss just collect the ooze (1) and press Unholy Infusion (6) and cast it until it is finished

This may may take a turn or two to get used to it and you can easily reset the boss by clicking the table again at any time

My theory is that since the mob is targeting you then it can use target of target, but I am not a blizz developer, would love to know why this works but it seemed to work each time i tried it. Also discovered this by accident from numerous attempts. Hope this helps anyone struggling with this. Oh and sorry for the caps at the start, I believe this to be the best method so far (the least annoying) for solo and wanted more attention to it.

Easiest way by far is to do this on an UNHOLY DK.

1. Start the fight by hitting the boss once with Shadow's Edge equipped
2. Wait for him to throw 3 pools
3. Beat him below 80%
4. After he stunned you click the table .. and instantly use army of the dead
5. 4 Seconds later you transform into a abomination
6. The boss won't reset this way because he can target the ghouls
7. Spam 1 button until you can use 4
8. Once you have the buff that your Shadow's Edge is ready to claim his soul kill him

Every other way the boss would reset once I transformed.

Just did this on a lvl 50 fury warrior, didnt have any issues at all. I didnt have to rely on the add to stun or any of the other methods previously posted, just waited for the 3 pools to spawn, slaped him below 80% (i was actually hoping for the add to stun me, but it didnt so i killed it instead), let him finish the cast, waited a little bit, clicked the table and he didnt despawn.

Maybe they finally fixed this quest for solo play :D

Soloed as lvl 50 paladin in SL pre-patch. Down him to 82-83% (not below, because he'll start the next phase). Wait for him to drop 3 green pools, then go to the table and click to drink a pot from it. It will turn you into that thing and you just need to spam the #1 skill, until the #4 skill is available to click. When #4 is available, it'll infuse your wep, Professor will probably down you by then, you will be out the of the form and ready to kill him. No other action needed.

Professor despawns if you try to drink a potion before he spawns 3 pools, and you will need to do thing over again.

Maybe I was just lucky or anything but i did it with my lvl60 pala. tried to hit him so that he is over 80% like all the guides say but proced my trinket hitting him instantly to 40%, but he still threw the green ooze on the floor. I waited till he threw it 3 times turned into the abomination, filled the bar, pressed 4, let the abomination die and killed him.
It worked all fine for me so i dont really understand why everybody says that he isn't allowed to fall under 80%, could someone explain that to me?

If he keeps resetting for you try this! (I spent a good hour trying all the different suggestions on here but none would work)

1. Aggro him but don't attack him.
2. Let him spawn 3 slime puddles. (up to you if you want to kill slimes, I didn't and it didn't affect me)
3. DPS him to 80% to transition into the next phase.
4. Make sure you're ready to hit the table the second he starts his long cast.

Now the important part to stop the respawn!

5. Target Putricide and press ability 3 the second you transform, basically you are hitting him before he despawns and now he has aggro on you again!
6. Drink slime pools with ability 1 and the second the last button lights up, cast Shadow's Edge.
7. Let Putricide kill the abomination you are in.
8. Kill Putricide.

This Q is seriously bugged.
When I turn into abomination, no matter how many time I press no1 action bar it never gets full so no4 never active,
So I no longer an abomination coz I loose HP. My ghoul will also despawn so if I wanted to drink one more time, the boss disappear.

Side Note. If you get the infusion on your weapon (transform, absorb slime, use "4" to get buff) but he despawns. You will still have the buff and be able to just kill him.

Just did this today as a prot paladin, wearing the axe and a smile. I've had a lot of trouble with the despawns until I came here and read the other people's helpful comments - basically once the pools are in place, bring him to the table, hit him to under 80% and immediately click the table. There will be a delay until you actually transform - USE THAT TO HIT THE BOSS AGAIN. Once you get aggro back and transform, go on and slurp all the sludge off the floor.

Once I got past that, I also found that the boss would kill my abom too fast. My workaround was to place 5 pools on the floor in a rough circle (around the floor pattern in the middle of the room) instead of 3. Also not sure if it makes any difference, but as in this time the boss spawns 4 slimes instead of 2, I just killed the first set as they spawned and left the last ones up. Running around the room gave my abomination more time to charge up and I infused the weapon with about 25% hp remaining.

Hope this helps.

Two tips that helped me:

- if you're a DK, use raise dead to summon a ghoul that will hold his aggro so he wont despawn
- dont overlap the slime pools, I died way too fast when i had the pools overlapped

For the longest time, I kept coming back - on my Ret Pal - to have yet another go at this struggle. Each time, I was higher level than the last time, and each time if I so much as sneezed, Putricide would die. #fail #loser #rtfm

Finally, after attempting numerous stratagems in these comments, I did something I never do; visit one of the linked YT videos for a more visual, and much simpler explanation. At last, success! I cannot, therefore, take any credit for this but, as this challenge is only going to get harder and harder (unless Blizzard pull their finger out and apply a fix for anybody entering the raid solo and 'x' levels higher than is normal so that they don't one-shot bosses with their steely gaze,) I shall repeat the method that, for now, just works.

Strip. Reduce any increase to your DPS given by your clothing, armour, trinkets, etc. Whip 'em all off. Icecrown may be bloody cold, but it's only for five minutes.
Equip Shadow's Edge. It is the point, after all. As you can't (I think) equip it while you are transforming or after, you need to have it at the start of the fight.
Start the fight. Right-click Putricide, approach. Let your weapon auto-attack once or twice. ASSESS. How much damage did it do? You need to know how much you're hurting him immediately to gauge how many hits you can give him.
Turn around. Face the door. Let Putty smack you in the back of the head. You're such an uber <insert class here> now that he's not going to do much - if any - damage.
Walk slowly toward the door. After 1/5 of the way there, wait and Puttles will eventually drop goo on the floor. (a) Many guides will advise a 'love-tap' to the spawned mobs on either side. I will confess that I completely forgot... and it mattered not. I (and hopefully, you) will still get by. You would be tempted to say, 'but your a plate wearing Pally, and I'm just a fabric covered nobody' and you'd be wrong, you're NAKED, remember? (b) The dropped goos will expand over time, merging with each other and filling much of the floor up. This is good. Ignore their initial size and move to the next point, about another 1/5 of the way to the door. By the time you get to the door (and back to the lab table) they will all have merged.
As you stop for the 2nd, 3rd (and maybe 4th) goo drop, turn quickly, allow your auto-attack to hit the Putmeister just once (or more, depending on your initial assessment,) and turn to face away from him again, looking at the door... forlornly. In due course you will be running back to the table, and Putters needs to be ONE HIT AWAY FROM 80%, whether that be 82, 83 or (as expansions keep rolling and we just keep getting better) or 87/88... You should have that figured from hits one and two... #jokingnotjoking
Your call. After three or four goos are down, you should be close to the door. The first two or three goos will have merged to create a carpet fit for your Abomination to thoroughly slurp up. Don't stop to look. HIT 'F1', turn and get straight to the table... FAST. (The F1 is to target yourself before you turn so you don't accidentally hit P-dog as you pass him by. If he hits 80% anywhere but at the table, pack up and go home.)
Get to the table, click on the... STOP. Don't click anything! Wait for Jabba the Put to catch up to you. Turn. Right-click him to auto-attack. Hopefully, he'll automatically hit 80%. (I don't think it goes 'just' below it at all at this point.) If it didn't, let your weapon do the talking again and hope you're lucky. If all goes well, he'll begin the next phase. That's your cue to turn, click the table, put on your meat suit and start running around, hoovering up the carpet of goo with the '1' button...
Pay close attention to your portrait. What would have been your mana/rage etc. bar is now your 'Goo' bar. Also pay attention to your Abomination's toolbar. Some commenters here have said that the button you are looking for, the money shot, the big payola, etc is number '6'. For me, after my Goo bar reached 100%, I started spamming '6' to no avail. Checked the toolbar and, for me at least, it was the number '4' button that was set to infuse all the Goo into Shadow's Edge.
Not that it will change anything at this point (I didn't have time to stop and stare at the toolbar to check for any heal button) but you may notice that, as Uber as you are, the Meat Suit is not. It will take damage. Lots. Keep spamming '1' and you should be able to get to 100% with ample 'health'. If everything goes to plan, as you start infusing Shadow's Edge, Putitdownyoudon'tknowwhereit'sbeen will have finally completed his concoction at the table, will approach you and rip your remaining Meat Suit to shreds! Gory! #funforallthefamily
Let Her Rip! Your beautiful weapon is now infused, pop whatever cooldowns are available to you and spam whatever spells/strikes are allowed and thrash him and any adds that move in.

Got quite scared when I got into all of these problems in comments. However as of patch 10.0.5 all I did was checking HeelvsBabyface's pinned video and advancing exactly as he did. Encountered no problem at all.

1) 25 player mode (did it on Heroic... Normal viable as well)
2) Going nude (lvl 70 retri pala), equiping Shadow's Edge... was doing like 25% boss dmg on hit
3) REMOVE FINAL RECKONING TALENT - this can passively proc pretty nasty on-hit effect and oneshot boss. It is good idea to test your damage on previous bosses.
4) Starting fight without dmg (taunt/step on boss)
5) Waiting for green phial to land on your face, placing 3 of them next to each other (don't overlap). Meanwhile 2 Oozes spawned. Did not killed them, just taunted each.
6) When 3rd phial hits, run to table and wait for boss to come.
7) Hit boss once and that should bring him below 80% hp, making him run to table and start casting - moving him to next phase
8) At this point, click table and wait to be transformed into Abomination
9) Your cast bar changes, run around green puddles and spam '1' action button, this will grow your energy bar.
10) Once energy bar is full, cast Shadow Infusion (action button '4')
11) Wait for boss to kill your Abomination
12) Make sure you have 'Shadow Infusion' buff
13) Kill boss
14) Credit! I mean... quest credit should be completed at this point.

So nothing here is working for me on my DK as of 10.1 because the boss one-shots the abomination before I can get to spamming 1. I've tested this with him at various health points, with and without gear, and so forth.

Tried this today and wasn't too bad. Per recommendations I took all my gear off and pulled agro. Once there was a pool on the ground I spammed the first command options until I got kicked out of the abomination, then went back to the table to become an abomination again. I still had agro and spammed again until I got to 100 and then hit the fourth command option, Once that was done the abominations health went down while standing in the remaining ooze and I was able to kill the boss. Thought it would be much harder, but can confirm it is soloable.

10.2 Dragonflight Update:

This comment by MrDiamondJ still works, with some modifications.

Before starting, get naked. (Except for Shadow's Edge, of course.)

1. Taunt Putricide to start the fight.
2. Stack on a ton of green goo. Be liberal. Try to spread them out so that you have room to run away from him later.
3. Melee all adds to death, then bring him to his table. This is very important, as the adds will ravage your health buffer on your monstrosity later.
4. Auto attack him once. This will take him below 80% and into his Phase 2.
5. Make sure all of his adds are dead.
6. Use his table to get the monstrosity debuff, then quickly sprint away from him (you have about 3 seconds.)
7. Kite away from him (to reduce damage taken) and spam the 1 ability. Make sure to do this away from Professor Putricide as it damages him, and that might push him into Phase 3.
8. As soon as the 4 ability becomes available, stop moving and click it. This is a roughly 3 second channel, so you need to be quick as he will kill your vehicle otherwise. You'll need about 20% health left for your channel to be successful. Try to time it so that he summons an add roughly around the time you need to stand and channel your infusion, as it'll give you the longest health buffer possible.
9a. If you fail, repeat steps 5 through 7. If he's in Phase 3, congratulations, you !@#$ed up and can't use his table anymore. Stand still and allow him to attack you for roughly 10 minutes until you die and can reset the encounter.
9b. If you were successful, you now have a roughly 6 minute buff. While you have this buff active, kill Professor Putricide.

This is obviously much easier with a friend, as they can just taunt Putricide off of you and kill adds while you slurp up your Unholy-O's.

10.2 edit: This still works as listed above. Remember that your friend will constantly lose health while you're in your vehicle/diseased, so someone with the ability to self-heal through the constant rot would be ideal as a helper. If your helper isn't a Holy Paladin, then have them do all of the steps above, and you be super lazy and just drink up your slop.

On Unholy DK I let him drop 3 puddles on the floor in a line and immediately put outbreak(with superstrain) on him(while we were in the middle of the room). I used death's advance and wraith's walk to sprint to the table and transform, and outbreak took him to 80% while I was doing this, so as a result I was able to just sit there absorbing from the pools while he entered the next phase. By time he turned around to hit me, I had long since finished channeling the 4.

And obviously the only thing I had equipped was Shadow's Edge(plus Hellscream's buff removed, no clue if this would even matter, but might as well).

Did it first try with this.

Unholy Infusion

Highlord Darion Mograine wants you to infuse Shadow's Edge with Unholy power and slay Professor Putricide.
