The quest text is the same as the the Ring of Blood quest, but the title is changed..

Most likely a reference to Yggdrassil, the world tree from Norse mythology (with that in mind, my guess is that this guy is some sort of treant or ancient). it seems to me that Blizzard is incorporating morealot of things from Norse myth (like the Jor$%^&ar, a reference to Jor#$%^and the world serpent), since WOLK is north-based, using aspects of Norse mythology seems appropriate for the setting.

Funny that no one has mentioned how to start this quest line yet. To start this quest line, look for a Goblin in the Dalaran sewers named Shifty. At level 75 you can pick up this quest: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?quest=12974

Funny fact: If you have completed The Ring of Blood chain, you will get this quest instead.

While they are almost identical, in the quest text of the one I linked the goblin tells you he'll be rich with a star like you coming, while in this one he introduces himself.

This seems to have a slight correlation to Yggdrasil http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yggdrasil , also an item in Ragnarok Online which is an potion equivalent.

Jörmuŋgandr , alternately referred to as the Midgardsormr or World Serpent, is a sea serpent of the Norse mythology, the middle child of the giantess Angrboða and the god Loki. According to the Prose Edda, Odin took Loki's three children, Fenrisúlfr, Hel and Jörmuŋgandr. He tossed Jörmuŋgandr into the great ocean that encircles Midgard. Soloable for a 75 Warlock (standard Felguard/Siphon Life build), with the FG tanking and being Healthfunneled and just a few dots (Curse of Weakness, Corruption, Siphon Life). At 3/4 through the game, Soulshatter and halve your aggro -- then you can dump Shadowbolts etc. on him to finish him off quickly.

However #2 in the fight is not soloable for me, at last not at 75, so that did not do me much good :)

Solo'd Yggdras with a 80 warrior geared in mostly ideal pre-naxxramas gear. Very easy fight. And you get 19g 50s for each battle completed @ 80.

The quest giver is at the top of the first level, above the arena floor. There are several ways in, but once you are at the Questgiver's level, you can hang there without drawing aggro.

I Got a group together for this, on what became a pretty busy night. Alliance, horde, it was your basic lovefest. The first thing that (I feel) it is important to know is that EVERYONE can join in on your battle, and you can join in an anyone else's.
This can cause some very real confusion in the group, but it can also help your DPS if nothing else.

I would recommend a healer, although we seemend to survive without one (due to the fact we had 10 other people jumping in on the mobs).

Quite fun, actually.

Anyway, if you want to do this as a proper 5-main group, good luck. You will likely become overwhelmed with other participants, and it is imperative that EVERYONE turn in the quests together, and accept the new quests together, or it will rapidly fall apart.

On that note, the quest giver only shows the exclamation point when the arena is available. other groups can jump in before you, so try to stay alert to who 'has the floor'.

Finally, casters and ranged types can actually snipe the mobs from the area where the quest giver is, for what it's worth.

If you are an achievement hunter, then whatever you do: do *NOT* start this questline without first picking up the quest The Champion's Call. Many people are reporting getting stuck at Zul'drak at 99/100 (or close to it), and that quest *does* count toward the achievement. If you complete the amphetheatre without this quest, it can no longer be picked up, and you will be forever out of a quest.

If you have a problem with the quest sharing when someone picks up this quest it's because the person starting the quest accepted it as a follow up from The Champion's Call!, if you accept the quest from him after closing the window (so by talking to him 'again') the quest will properly share.

I actually managed to solo this as a 75 Holy Pally. He hit me for an average of 1.2k and a crit of 3k. His corrode flesh ability hit me for around 2.3k, but the debuff was easily dispellable. I used Seal of Wisdom and Judgement of Wisdom in order to keep my mana up, but I still ended up with 1k mana out of 13k. I also did have to use both my Divine Shield and Divine Protection. All in all it took about 5 minutes, but I have proved that it is soloable by a lvl 75. Holy Pallies ftw!

I soloed this guy when my lock was 75, keep felguard out, dot and spam health funnel.

P.S. its fun to tag them for good exp when an opposing factions group is doing the quest.

Note that u DO get xp from this quest although wowhead doesn't mention it, for me (at level 76) it was 32100xp each turn in. Hope this helps.

Was a close fight at a couple points, but solo'd this as a 77 Ret Paladin using LoH once and no bubble. I think I got lucky.. >.>;

No-one has said how frustrating this chain is with other groups doing it at the same as yourself.
There's about a million things that can go wrong and make this event more drawn out than it should be, people tapping your mobs, people turning in quests too fast or too slow meaning people in the party are on separate steps.
It was an issue that was present in Nagrand but has not been attended, do yourself a favour and do this quest at the dead of night then there are no other groups about.

A lot of people are reporting being stuck on 99/100 for the area achievement because they didn't pick up the starting quest for this chain but I am currently on 95/100 before starting the arena chain (6 quests) and therefore it IS possible to get over 100 quests without the starting quest.

Easily soloable for a Demo or 21/41 specced Warlock

Send pet in, dot once or twice and healthfunnel til Yggdr-really big worm dies.
You may add more damage if you like, just make sure you dont overagro your Felguard (or whatever demon you use)

I agree with the main point that it is possible to complete The Empire of Zul'Drak without doing The Champion's Call. However, the number of available quests that actually count for the achievement is much closer to the required 100 than the 121/127 that wowhead lists.

(I play Alliance exclusively, so the rest of this is written from that perspective. I suspect it applies in principle to Horde as well, but with different details.)

For starters, there are something like 6 or 7 quests that are excluded by doing other quests. These include 4 given by either Stefan Vadu or Overlord Drakuru, where the quest chain forks depending on whether or not you've completed Cleansing Drak'Tharon. There are another few that are redundant breadcrumb quests, such as the ones pointing you to Sgt. Riannah at Light's Breach.

Secondly, quests that are in any way repeatable (this includes dailies) never count toward their respective Loremaster areas. That knocks out 15 quests. When a repeatable quest has a one-time initial version that opens up the repeatable, that sometimes will not count. This may or may not knock out these three quests.

Lastly, breadcrumb quests that direct you to another questing hub often do not count for Loremaster credit. I honestly do not know how many of these quests will not count toward The Empire of Zul'Drak. Even if we assume that they all count, the number of quests that could be completed by a given Alliance player and will actually count for the achievement is no greater than 106, possibly less.

That said, there are ways you can screw yourself out of some quests that would otherwise count. While optional lead-in quests such as this one typically do not count toward Loremaster, comments here are implying it does. It is also possible to find yourself unable either to accept or complete Feedin' Da Goolz. Once you complete Betrayal you will lose your Ensorcelled Choker and be unable to interact with Gristlegut. It's also worth mentioning that this zone has one of the most infamously bugged quests, The Storm King's Vengeance, which can turn out to be impossible to complete on any given attempt, even if you do everything right.

I think the extremely tight quest count and the fact that you could find yourself locked out of some quests are among the reasons that Blizzard added Eggs for Dubra'Jin and Tails Up in patch 3.0.8. It may or may not be mathematically possible to complete the achievement without doing any of the Amphitheater of Anguish quests, but you may as well do them all. Not only do all 6 quests started by Gurgthock count for The Empire of Zul'Drak, finishing the chain counts for Of Blood and Anguish.

Solo'd as an 80 spriest. Bubbled when available, DOT'd, sent in Shadowfiend at the beginning, Greater Healed once, Mind Flayed and Mind Blasted the remainder of the fight.

Definitely found a little bug in this quest.. I had already completed the entire chain while questing through Northrend. As of now at level 83, messing around in Tanaris found that i had a quest available, clicking on it revealed this quest, like i could do it all over again. may want to try it, worth a good 22500 experience and 19g 50s

EDIT: Also to mention the first boss that spawned was a level 47 mob, easily one shotted. Worth the try

I'ma little confused by the chain for this quest. I got invited to group, took on the quest and after every kill was told by the group leader NOT to turn in the quest. We killed everything and then at the end he said to turn it in. I got my 19g and my 35,000 xp but the "Of blood and anguish" achievement does not show me as having completed the Amphitheatre of Anguish quests (The Champion of Anguish).

Should I have been turning in the quests after each kill?

Soloed as a level 76 Death Knight. Blood Spec/Frost Presence.

Blood Spec helps with bone shield and 3 self-healing casts, plus Icebound Fortitude for damage reduction. I would suggest only trying in Frost Presence for damage increase. Was very easy with this combination.

I accepted quest about Ygdrasil in Tanaris at local arena.

Then comes to Zul Drak. Returned quest.. got 43k exp without any fight :D

So far... I managed to solo:

As a lev 78 frost dk (incl risen ally of course). I died once on From Beyond, but apparently my dots and minion got a killing blow as I went down, so I got the complete. :o). I have BoA but no Cata gear. (Dungeon blues in the other slots)

I'll edit after I try the next quests in chain.

Managed to solo this one, but died just as my blood plague killed him. I got the complete for the quest. If I had watched my health a little closer, I probably could have survived, but he hit me pretty hard a bit faster than expected. Suggest not letting yourself get below 10-12k. Empowered rune weapon will let you use a couple death syphons if you need it.

This ended badly. 5 tries, 5 deaths. Getting him off his mount is pretty easy, but once dismounted he hits hard and fast. Faster than any self healing I can do at this level, once my death syphons are gone. I'm going to go and sulk and lick my wounds for a couple levels.

recently seems to be bugged

Worm will spawn - run around perimeter in like 200° and then despawn while you get note that you've been killed (while you didn't even aggroed him)
quest will be marked as failed.

Seems to be caused by low aggro range on my high lvl char. I was 82lvl

when I moved closer to him, he aggroed with no issues

Seem bugged (or wormed?) but you only need to go to the spawn point and spam an AoE ability/spell to pull it.

Currently bugged if you are too high of a level. The spaghetti code of WoW uses player threat to determine if you are in the ring. If the mob does not detect you in about 1.2 seconds it will auto despawn as if you left the ring. As soon as he spawns you have about 1.2 seconds to engagehim before the quest auto fails like you left the arena with the emote from the goblin saying that you were destroyed and the champions are victorious.
For each step in the Arena make sure you are standing in range of where the mob ends their roleplay and becomes attackable and then spam an attack.

Description

I'll tell you what, buddy, this place is a far cry from the rolling plains of Nagrand. These trolls are dirtier than ogres; but hey, I go where the gold's at! So welcome to Zul'Drak, pal.

You're new to this racket, so let me set you straight. I'm the fight promoter and this feisty troll next to me is Wodin, my bodyguard. You're the entertainment. When you wanna fight, let me know and I'll set up the match.
