I just saw today that you don't need to be on the quest to ride the harpoon from the ledge to Valgarde. You may need to complete this quest first, though.

The shortcut was handy for getting the ingots required for the quest We Can Rebuild It up in the Explorers' League Outpost. You can talk to the same NPC who gives the ingots for a shortcut back to Explorers' League via a flying machine.

Am I the only one bothered by the fact that we just launched a giant flaming harpoon into our own base?

I was thinking to myself, "maybe it's scripted to land somewhere in the open", but the harpoon magically stopped itself from hitting one of the injured soldiers.

What was the Lieutenant thinking? >_>

Basicly, if you go back to the harpoon you used the first time around, keep going past that hut, there's a trail up to the next hut, where you want to be.

Of all the fun things to note, the Harpoon Controller remains in your inventory if you faction transfer. If you ever wanted an interesting way to do world pvp, this certainly would be one of them.

Bugged. When not on the quest I can use the harpoon without any item even though I can mouse-over and get the tooltip that states the requirement. When I take the quest, however, the controller doesn't work and I am stuck clicking the quest helper item "link" which just gives me a highlighted hand which I then try using on the very same harpoon that worked for me before. I can't even mouse over and get the tooltip anymore.

I think you guys might just be looking at the wrong harpoon launcher. You have to go a little farther to the next hut. . .the one you want has a lever / switch beside it and is sparkling. Works fine, just like it used to.

Just got the best screenshots ever because of this quest.

Additionally, you can relaunch the harpoon as many times as you want, as long as you haven't turned in the quest yet.

Ok I just went to Daggercap Bay to check it out... the Large Harpoon Lever still requires this item. Given that we all have cold weather flying now at 70 not 76, and a huge chunk of us have 280% or more flying speed... I'm thinking I'm going to destroy this.k

It is the SAME harpoon used for the previous quests, it is the one on the left and there will be a lever next to it!

Hmm... Didn't seem to work as a pandaren. That is, the entire harpoon ride was invisible to me, right up till i jumped off at the end.

Edit: Zooming fixed it for some reason.

Next hut over from the last, onto the deck and the harpoon level is right there at 65 57. Just pull it, you get launched and land in the camp valgarde across the bay. Turn in the quest and bam, done. Easy, just have to know where to go. Kinda fun too.

I know this is an old quest, but just reporting something I found. Just completed this quest line and got no credit for the story progress. Tried relogging and the issue wasn't resolved, flying around to see if I missed any quests but I don't believe I did. Any fixes for this that people know of?

Let's Go Surfing Now

Use the large Vrykul Harpoon Gun in Nifflevar to launch yourself into Valgarde. Report your victory over the Vrykul to Guard Captain Zorek.

Description

Navigating the steep bluffs of Howling Fjord can be nerve-racking! I've come up with a solution to ease that burden by utilizing vrykul technology and dwarven ingenuity. With just a few adjustments and some fine tuning I've created Icehammer's harpoon controller! Of course it hasn't been tested, but that's what you're here for!

Take the controller to the big gun in Nifflevar and use it to launch yourself into Valgarde. Report your victory to Zorek. Oh yea, you can keep the controller.
