If you are in a party you can all collect the 4 runes required to destroy the portal, however, if someone disables the portal it counts toward your quest too which obviously makes it much faster :D

As a shadow priest, I found that killing the pet first is easier. Saved my mana from horrible burmination.

This is relatively easy as a arms warrior, just charge the handler and pop a sweeping strikes, then just use 2-3 cleaves and use whatever ability yo want to finish of the handler.

It takes four stones per portal to destroy them. You'll need to stand in the very middle of the portal (on the blue area) and right-click it.

kill the pats first, very important, they are easy to miss when fighting stationary mobs, and they are many.
also, when fighting fel hunters, kill the pets first if mana class.
they are a pain in the ass. major mana-burnination.

Solo'd this as a lvl 58 ret pally . Easy enough to kill the demons and get the stones around Xilus but when i got to Kruul i had some problems. There are alot more pats around Kruul than the other so u have to pay attention , they seem to come outa nowhere.

I'm currently a level 59 BM Hunter and I couldn't clear the mobs out fast enough even with a decent crossbow. As soon as I thought I had a clear path, I got multiple adds and simply died. I may have to wait until I get a couple of levels higher before I can do this. Trying to sneak past them and all that just simply did not work.

Not that hard as a 59 shammy, when fighting the handlers, just drop a stoneclaw as you kill the handler, then wipe the floor with pet. Mana Burn is easily stopped with a simple Earth Shock

You really want to look out for the "Fet Handler"'s and their "Netherhound"'s, they patrol both Ports, and there are many of them. Take extra care of the Netherhounds if you are a mana user, since their spell can remove more than half of your mana.

60, Feral druid.. the fel elites (lvl 60) i killed with halv of my life left (2002 hp).. I want to say that these creatures are weak.

I've cleared the south portal with a 58 lock with no problem what so ever. It's just a matter of being patient and watching the patterns, then pulling the non-pet mobs out of the way of the other patrols.

I had a huge problem completing this quest, in fact I didn't. I killed the mobs to gain the runes, had 8 of them and tried to use the Primers to disable the portal, and nothing happend. Even though I stood in the middle of the portal nothing happend. Am I doing anything wrong?

Just did it as a 61 fury warrior. Very easy quest imo, could easily take down 3 mobs at a time, since they only have about 3k hp. Just watch out for the 60 elite thay patrols the area. I didn't fight him, but i bet he hits hard.

Got the same problem as you Hearteh. As of 1-10-08, 59 Tauren Warrior, collect 4 runes, right click primer in center of portal and nothing. "Hand" cursor gets grey outline around it like it does when you need to do a aoe click, but still nothing. I have done this on Alliance with no problems.

Make sure you are in the right portal. There are a lot of portals and not all of them are interactable. When you are in an appropriate portal you will get a gear icon, not a hand.

I did this as a level 60 BM Hunter. I had to kill around 20 mobs to get the stones, but I could easily aggro 2-3 of them and survive very easily. Easy quest :)

Finally got it. So when we say in the portal we litteraly mean in the portal. You'll know your at the right portal by putting ur mouse over it and the gear may turn gold. but the primers wont work unless your literaly in the portal. Hope this helps =)

Almost got picked off as a lvl 58 sub. rogue.. <3 vanish =P

Quest is easily soloable.. as a rogue anyways

note to my fellow hunters. if the flayer-hide leggings are better than your current leggings, DO NOT TAKE THEM. the next quest has a reward that has the EXACT same stats as the flayer legs, only they're mail not leather. take the tunic or breastplate instead they both vendor for a gold more than the leggings. and lets face it, every little bit counts on the way to that epic :P

OK well alot of you are saying the quest is glitched...it's not the coordinates given above are completely wrong they're not even on that side of the road...geez. Ok (71,54); (72,59) is the correct coords...I mean I know it was a mistake, but if you're going to comment hear atleast make sure your facts are straight. Btw even the pics given are wrong ROFL >.<.

I can't speak for anyone else, but almost as soon as I'd blown up Portal Kruul, an elite felguard spawned inside it. Luckily I managed to run away before it aggroed. I think it was the Felguard Destroyer mentioned above.

Be aware, that if you try this at 58, the aggro radius of just about everything in HP is ridiculous. If you're not doing this at 59 or preferably even 60, you WILL pick up aggro on half the demons present. It's still doable, without question, but it's a LOT harder.

Make sure you get 4 Demonic Rune Stones before attempting to disrupt the ports, I thought I could fly right to it and disrupt it and avoid mobs but with the drop rate I needed to clear everything around it anyways (and then some) before i got the 4 for each portal.

Watch for which portal you are needing to destroy. I went across the road after doing my first one, cleared around this one I thought was which I needed, and ended up at the wrong portal. The two you need are on the North side of the road, not the South.

Also, being a rogue, I stealth into the portal and used the item. Halfway through the cast, an NPC attacked me and interrupted it. However it still counted towards my quest. Which was a good thing :)

I had the same problem as some of you (krzym, zpo3622:s and Hearteh). I have plenty of stones and standing in the middle of the portal. I right click and nothing happens. I was able to disable the other portal, but not the other. I guess I'll be dropping the quest.

If this quest is bugged for you i.e. you're standing in the middle of one of the portals, with four stones in your inventory but nothing happens when you right click, if you hover over the portal you'll see the name of the portal in the tooltip but not the "requires To'arch's primers" part then it won't work.

To solve this go far enough away from the portal so that the game object is no longer loaded/rendered. If your view distance setting is too low to see when you get far enough away just turn it up temporarily. When the portal is no longer rendered move closer again so that it is loaded, now if you hover over it you should see "requires To'arch's primers" on the tooltip.

So now it should work.

At least this was the situation for me.

The Shadowbrim Travel Hat is the only one of this colour in the game for mogging, albeit a quite commonly available style. Matches easily with quite a few robes and things.

kill the mobs around the portal to loot 4x Demonic Rune Stone
go inside the Portal Xilus and click him
go to Portal Kruul /way 74,0, 38,7
kill the mobs around the portal to loot 4x Demonic Rune Stone
go inside the Portal Kruul and click him
return the quest

Description

Directly east of here is the Legion Front. Spaced across the front are infernal portals and gateways, used to bring reinforcements to Hellfire Peninsula and throughout Outland. We're going to destroy those portals!

Take these primers. Designed in Area 52, they use the demons' own power as an explosive! Defeat Legion forces around Portals Xilus and Kruul to gather demonic rune stones, use the primer to detonate four stones inside the portals, and watch! Return to me when your mission is complete.
