Some useful info:

* Fished in the inland waters of Shadowmoon Valley.
* The drop rate at 700 skill is around 1%.
* It appears as additional loot to the main catch.
* Using Blind Lake Sturgeon Bait does not influence the catch rate. It does however influence the main catch, so I recommend using it to maximize your profits!
* Buffs to fishing skill (enchants, lures, poles, etc.) DO influence the catch rate (changed in 6.1). So far Ive managed to get to 1089 skill and the drop rate has increased to 5-6% (average 100 casts/5 lunkers)
* Can be caught from fishing pools (as of 6.1)
* Can be caught while in a raid group. If you aren't catching one, it's just bad RNG.
* Use it to get Nat's Lucky Coin and purchase pets, a mount and other fishing goodies!

Here's what I found out about catching lunkers:

1. You don't need 1000 skill to catch lunkers.(I've been fishing them up at 880-905), not sure if it helps with the droprates if you get higher.
2. Nat Pagle has to be assigned and working in your garrison fishing shack.
3. El said the bait doesn't affect lunker droprates.(so use it anyway to avoid catching 70% junk fish)
4. Don't fish in pools.

Edit: When 6.1 hits, the higher your fishing skill will also increase the chance of catching lunkers.

At first I chalked this up to coincidence, but then it kept happening and my guildees report the same. Fishing in the Drakkorium in SMV gives a consistent drop of these, every time i go there for the daily I get a lunker,

Abashera’s Lunker Fishing Journal

I noticed a few people have said they averaged approximately three fish per hour. Others have lamented that "the drops are dismal," pointing out that they've been at it for an hour or two with no catch.

Rather than take guesstimates of how many lunkers drop per hour, I decided to turn on my Blizzard UI Stopwatch and record the amount of time that had past between each lunker catch, so as to get a more accurate idea of DROPS-PER-HOUR - which I believe is what the average person wants to know: “How long is it going to take me to get my mount and/or pet?”

This is the purpose of this journal, to get an accurate idea of how long it takes to get 100 lunkers for Nat’s mount. This way players can plan their fishing schedule accordingly. (Note: This journal is not however to figure out the drop-rate of lunkers, which is determined by the number of lunkers per cast, which percentage wowhead has already data-mined).

I also notice some debate on wowhead as to whether or not “BEER really brings in the big catch” as Nat Pagle suggests in his dialogue. I have to admit, when I read that, I too thought Blizzard may have added a “beer mechanic” into the game that increases the chances. Therefor, along with logging my catch times, I also split my lunker catches in half: 50 lunkers with Captain Rumsey's Lager, and 50 without.

Regarding Sample Size: 100 Lunkers may look like a small sample; but consider too that I caught 10,408 Enormous fish, along with hundreds of smaller fish, bait, lures, etcetera—so the 100 lunkers represent well over 11k casts.

If others want to duplicate this experiment and add their numbers with mine to further increase the accuracy of catches per hour, , please do. However I’m off to fish up 75 more lunkers for pet and the fishing pole; but I personally won’t be continuing this experiment, the grind is GRUESOME!

CONCLUSIONS

Captain Rumsey's Lager didn’t make any difference. In fact the drops were better without it, though marginally, likely due to RNG.

Because Captain Rumsey’s Lager didn’t make a difference, I recommend not using it for the simple reason that 1) obviously, it makes no difference, and 2) you have to stop every three minutes to drink, and that only interrupts your fishing rhythm. For the same reason, I also didn’t apply lures, hooks, or Worm Supreme, it makes you have to stop fishing to apply them, and lures and bait have a cast time to apply. The less time you spend applying buffs that don’t increase your lunker chances, the more times you can Cast & Catch, the more catches you can pull in per hour… the faster you’ll get your booty! (mount/pet/etc)

So what about Nat’s mention of drinking beer to bring in the big catch?

Nat also says “Don’t EVER go fishing without a cooler.” Are we to conclude that we need to have a Portable Refrigerator in addition to drinking Captain Rumsey’s Lager? And what about the Discarded Lucky Coin, which bears more than a remarkable resemblance to Nat's Lucky Coin? …I mean, it’s the same icon, and the name is only one word off.

But I would expect a lush to recommend beer and a cooler. Truth is, I don’t think Nat’s a good fisherman (or he’s just too drunk to fish), which is why I have to catch his food for him.

But go ahead and drink the lager if the placebo effect makes you feel good… or for the actual +10 fishing bonus.

FISHING FACTS

— ~~The Nat Pagle Follower must be assigned to your Fishing Shack to catch Lunkers~~.

— Lunkers are unique - only 5 of each type can be caught and owned before needing to return to base to turn them in.

— The addon Fishing Buddy is nice, and helps pass the time.

— I fished up between one and six Ephemeral Fishing Pole per day, and just kept equipping the newest pole.

— My fastest lunker catch was 3 seconds after the first cast; My longest time between catches was 2 hours and 18 minutes (ETERNITY). If you go over two hours, it’s just bad RNG. It evens out when you catch two or three within a few minutes or seconds.

— I alternated fishing spots (zones), catching equal amounts of all “enormous” fish types, mainly so I could send them to alts to level fishing through the Fishing Shack dailies.

— Saberfish are the best way to level cooking, I leveled up the cooking skill on four toons, and have more than enough Enormous Crescent Saberfish for the rest of my toons (if they were all lvl 100). I’m even sending some to friends so they can level cooking.

— I did the Pandaria Nat Pagle dailies at the same time, and got my rep from buddy to to Best Friend (exalted) in just four days!

— Nat Pagle is a real putz. Oh, and “GET THE HELL OFF MY RAFT NAT!” If you ever fish in the 1st person view, Nat WILL make you lose a few fish! They should have named him Gnat.

This is how I catch five lunkers:

With Nat Pagle assigned to the fishing shack, with no beer and fishing skill 1000 (= 700 + 100 Ephemeral Fishing Pole + 200 Worm Supreme) my droprate is 5 per 420 fishing casts, that is 1,19%
I was fishing 1 hour 45 min at 54.0 41.1 Shadowmoon Valley. My Nat Pagle has iLvl 615. i' ve given him upgraded armour and weapon.

Sure it's still RNG, but took me less than half hour for all five with 1100 fishing, using Tentacled Hat , Ephemeral Fishing Pole and Worm Supreme

Also, they now can be caught from pools.

Patch 6.1 -

I have just fished up my first one of these this morning after days of trying and never getting one.

I have 700 fishing and was only using a +30 fishing pole (Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole) and +75 fishing lure (Bright Baubles). Giving a total of 805 fishing.
I caught it from a pool in Shadowmoon Valley.
I do NOT have Nat Pagle in my garrison. I am currently doing the quest to fish the 100's of enormous fish to unlock the Level 3 Fishing Shack.

Hopefully this is helpful to some people :)

Edit: Caught 2 in a row from the same pool. Total of 3 in about 15 minutes :)

Do not bother running around looking for schools. I've fished from pools the whole morning getting *0* lunkers with 1100 fishing skill and proper bait(not sure if that is even needed since it's a school). It's a waste of time that you could spend on actual fishing instead of running around...

<edit> Funny thing, after I wrote this, I actually caught a lunker in a school. However this time I did *not* use any special bait. In other words don't bother using special bait when fishing in these schools, it isn't needed - but you probably already knew that. <edit2> Yeah, I caught 2 lunkers from the same school. Probably just pure luck considering the time I've spent today.

The info here is incorrect, as of 6.1, at least. I fished this up on a freshly boosted character last night. Level 91, no fishing shack, no nat pagle, no lures, pole,etc. Fishing skill was *13*. I was fishing a pool in shadowmoon. Fished the pool clean and cast in one more time after the pool was gone can came up with this. Had no idea what it was, and came here to figure out.

can confirm that its possible to catch lunker in "normal waters" - school isnt needed.
Fishing 700 + Rod 30 + Worm Supreme 200 + Tentacled Hat 100 - tried 20-30 times.

Caught this in Shadowmoon, having no extra fishing poles baits, or any other buffs. I didn't even have Pagle as a follower yet (and still working on it). Caught near Gloomshade Grove when I wasn't even fishing for it.. I'm maxed out at fishing level so I don't know if this makes a difference or not but can be caught without much of anything but pure dumb luck in Blind Lake Sturgeon schools.

Anyone else got a sick streak of those earlier today while Pagle was bugged?

Got x7 on 30 casts in pools, while on the achievement to get fishing building lvl 3.

Seems to be fixed now if that was the case however.

I just got this from fishing in Shadowmoon Valley WITHOUT having the achievement and WITHOUT having Nat Pagle as a follower. I only had my fishing skill increased with +60.
I got it from fishing in random water (no pool).

Shadowmoon Valley near at The Verdant Mire. (coords near at 55,46) (FlightPoint: Path of the Light)

Not fished in pools, just simple inland water.

I decided to analyze how many casts it would take for me to get 5 Blind Lake Lunker

My base skill was 700.
For fishing skill buffs I used:

Hightfish Cap which give +100 fishing skill.
Ephemeral Fishing Pole which give +100 fishing skill.
Worm Supreme which give +200 fishing skill.

That made a total of 1100 fishing skill. I also used Blind Lake Sturgeon Bait during this test. This item will not improve the catchrate of the lunker tho.
I fished in Shadowmoon Valley at (52.38),(42.20).
I didn´t drink anything to increase the catchrate.
I got 5 Blind Lake Lunker in 24 minutes.
On my 31st, 33rd, 41st, 58th and 95th cast.
My catchrate this try was around 5,26%. (Math: 5/95)

These are completely useless unless you have or intend to get a Level 3 Fishing Shack. Once you get the shack, you'll do a quick quest to bring Nat Pagle to Draenor. Nat will give you a quest to bring one of each Lunker back to him and will give you a special lure to catch them with. Getting these is easy enough. Once done you can then turn these into Nat and you will get 1 x Nat's Lucky Coin and 350 reputation with Nat Pagle (if you are not already Best Friends with him).

I caught 5 of these whilst working on the achievement to get the Level 3 Fishing Shack so save them! Note that you can only hold a maximum of 5 in your bags, and contrary to what is reported you CAN get these without having the Level 3 Shack.

At present, this fish, Blind Lake Lunker, is glitched such that you can fish it up WITHOUT a Level 3 fishing shack! It is the only lunker that can be caught this way. (This is still true as of January 16, 2015, Patch 6.2.3)

~~The glitch is not of any great significance, however. You can only hold 5 at a time, so you can keep them and get a very slight head start on your grind for Nat's Lucky Coins.~~ - as of 6.2, you can now hold an unlimited number of lunkers. As such, you can get a sizeable head start on your grind for Nat's Lucky Coins!

These coins are the currency for various items from Nat Pagle, and fishing up lunkers is one of the ways to obtain them. You can only turn the lunkers in once getting a level 3 fishing shack, and recruiting Nat Pagle as a follower. 1 lunker yields 1 Nat's Lucky Coin when turned in.

The items you can purchase with Nat's Lucky Coins is as follows:

There seems to be no requirements for catching these other than you have to be fishing in a Blind Lake Sturgeon school. I caught one with no Draenor fishing achievement, no Nat Pagle as a follower, and a level 1 fishing shack. (I haven't even seen him here I don't think.) Also a 349 fishing skill.

Some information that needs to be confirmed.

Fishing from pools greatly increases the chance to catch lunkers. Don't use any bait though.

I was fishing at a school around 54, 45 and I found one of these. I came to find out what it was, saw the low drop rate. "Oh, that's pretty cool." Went back to fishing, and the same school showed up. I caught 2 more in a row.

So with doing these I noticed Nat would come to you and tell you that you need patience and beer. So I went to Embaari Village and go south to the little lake where you kill the bugs and hydras and go to the little spot of land next to the water fall and fish.

I used the bait, worm supreme, pheromones fish when it would drop, and the Pandaren Plum Wine from the Grand Expedition Yak.

At that point I noticed I was getting the lunkers at that point.

But if I wasn't drunk or smashed I didn't catch any but then when I started to stay drunk or smashed the drop started happening more.

A friend was doing it the same way at the same time and got about as many as did.

Didn't have any fishing quests active .

Fish it from a pool on the shore in Shadowmoon Valley. (71,63) So can be caught no just from inland pools

This also concern the others, such as:

I just fished this up from a pool in Shadowmoon Valley, with 645 fishing and a weather beaten fishing hat.

FOR THOSE WITH LOW LEVEL FISHING

I ended up fishing the Blind Lake Lunker out of a pool in Shadowmoon, North of the Garrison.

I had only fished there for about 10 minutes, attempting to get the achievement for the Fishing shack level 3. My fishing on that toon was < 316 > at the time of capture.

I had:
- Fishing Pole , you can buy it from any fishing vendor.
- Bladebone Hook to fillet as I fished

I did NOT have:
-level 3 fishing shack
-any help from baubles or worms
-a fancy pole
-raft or other buffs
-Nat Pagle at my Garrison
-the daily fishing quest

It is possible to catch under 700 skill, though after getting two of the achievements for Draenor Angler (200/700 fish caught) and a bit of a third, I only managed to catch ONE lunker.

EDIT: I just caught my second lunker, fishing is at 500 skill.
All I had this time was:
- Pandaren Fishing Pole A better upgrade to my previous one ;)
- Bladebone Hook to fillet as I fished

That makes two lunkers with no boost to fishing, or level 3 shack/Nat Pagle/Fancy addon lures

CAUGHT A THIRD, 3 MINUTES AFTER THIS ONE. same items, 503 fishing skill.

Just caught one of these in a school near 55,94 just off the shore of Darktide Roost with fishing level 700 + Weather Beaten Fishing Hat lure and my old Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole. I didn't have the daily nor do I have Nat Pagle and my Fishing Hut is only level 2. To add insult to injury, the lunker was in the first catch from the pool which probably means I will never, ever catch the other 4 needed for the achievement. lol

Caught one today in the Swamplight Trail area. It was NOT from a pool, it was just open water. I also caught a sea scorpion lunker in open water which leads me to believe all lunkers can now be caught in non-pool waters.

Just to prove a point on how RNG this is. I have 700 fishing, I used one of the +100 fishing hats, and a +100 rod. http://prntscr.com/8g6j8w This is my looting after coming back from lunch. 19 casts, 4 Lunkers. And this was just in the nightmarsh, not fishing in a school pool once.

So my observations on Blind Lake Lunkers in 6.2 and fishing level, using one spot that i like in Shadowmoon Valley, near the Draakorium flight path. Completed this on day of post 9/20/15.

This covers (3) 10 minute sessions for 2 different fishing skill configurations, total time 60 minutes, no sturgeon bait used, approximately 50 casts per 10 minutes (295 total), and I stood in the same spot the entire 60 minutes, with a pool that spawned 4 times in that period, and I alternated every 10 minutes between config 1 and 2. Catch was 2-to-1 in favor of Enormous Crescent Saberfish over Enormous BL Sturgeon (because I didn't use bait.)

#1 - My Salty Outfit - Nat's Drinking Hat (+10), Boots of the Bay (+15), Arcanite Pole (+40) or Draenic Pole (+34 w/ enchanted fishing line), Gloves enchanted (+5) for base fishing level of 700+64 or 700+70. While fishing, either using +200 from built-in lure on Draenic Pole, or Worm Supreme +200, for a total of 964/970 fishing. In these 3 sessions I used the Draenic pole and alternated lures if pole lure was on cooldown. No Captain Rumsey's buff.

#2 - Modified of above to subsitute Ephemeral Fishing Pole (+100) and Hightfish Cap (+100) for base fishing of 920 (Boots and Gloves +20). Add worm supreme and Captain Rumsey's Lager for a total of 700+430=1130 fishing - basically the highest that I can get my fishing skill.

30 minutes fishing in configuration #1 - 14 Blind Lake Lunkers caught, and each 10 minute period saw 4, 4, and 6 in the last. There was a pool spawning in front of me, but only 2 lunkers were caught from a cast within the pool, and 1 more when a pool was present, but cast didn't land it the pool.

30 minutes fishing in configuration #2 - 1 Blind Lake Lunker, and each 10 minute period saw 0, 0, and then 1 in the final 3 minutes from a cast directly into a pool. Yes, that's 1 BL Lunker with fishing skill of 700+430=1130 in 30 minutes.

The high 900 fishing skill range using the Draenic pole w/+200 lure, for a 964 skill level seems to yield a lunker, on average, 1 for every 10.5 casts (total casts 147.) For the whole 60 minutes, it drops to 1 every 19.6 casts when you include the 30 minutes at 1130 fishing.

Still need to test this same theory at my lunker spots in the other zones, but it would seem that using the pole and hat received from the garrison pond / cavedweller drop and worm supreme isn't going to produce more lunkers when you're rocking 1100+ fishing skill level. My stats say that it makes a difference in Pandaria when pulling the daily Gourani, Mimic, and Spinefish for Nat Pagle rep, but I'm not seeing it with lunkers. Will test further in the other Draenor zones to see if the theory holds.

I just caught 3 of them from one and the same pool, and 1 just before that pool. My fishing skill is 288 and no modifiers. Have they increased the drop rate? I took a screenshot if nobody believes me...

I think there might be a bug where you can get these without nat pagle as a follower in 6.2.2. While doing the achievment for the level 3 fishing shack last night i managed to catch 6 of these in 100 throws, fishing from pools, around fishing level 640-660 with no fishing shack level 3. Note, i was only able to fish up these in shadowmoon valley, no drops from any of the other zones.

I caught one at fishing level ~400 or so. I know I'm definitely a long way off from even getting Nat, and I had a level 1 shack. I was fishing in pools, so maybe that had something to do with it?

But yeah, you don't need any special achievements or Nat to fish these up, apparently.

Tips for catching lunkers....As if we still needed to prove to ole Nat that we're still best friends. ;-)

1. Leave Nat working in the fishing shack. You can't turn these in if he isn't there. But bring a follower with you on the trip. If no players are around, you can throw the "Fragrant" Pheromone Fish to get an extra 100 skill.

2. Spend a little time fishing in your garrison for Frostdeep Minnow. Throw them into your garrison's waters and kill the cavedweller that spawns. Among other things that are less likely, he will drop things like Ephemeral Fishing Pole, Worm Supreme, Hightfish Cap, or Tentacled Hat.

3. Use the Ephemeral Fishing Pole and put a Worm Supreme on it. Assuming you are at max level fishing, your skill level is now at 1100 as a base. "Fragrant" Pheromone Fish is simply a bonus at this point as skill level affects drop rate now.

4. Pandora, Spotify, or whatever provider you choose, make sure you have some sort of noise in the background to regulate your sanity while enduring the sport that is known as fishing in WOW. ;-)

I have approximately 6700 casts in various locations across Draenor since starting to use this method and my current average on lunkers sits just shy of 6%. It still isn't for the week at heart but I find that in two hours, I generally go back to Nat with 20-23 of them. (There is no longer a limit of 5 that can be carried.)

I caught 4 of these tonight and each time it said I collected the reins of a Crimson water strider but I could not fine any reins in my backpack nor does it show up as a mount that I have in my listings. Any ideas?

I got a Blind Lake Lunker from fishing in a Blind Lake Sturgeon School in Shadowmoon Valley with fishing skill of 208. My shack is lvl 2.

Hand-in macro
If you need to turn in a lot of lunkers, paste this in a macro:
/script SelectGossipAvailableQuest(X)
/script CompleteQuest()
/script GetQuestReward()

Then replace 'X' according to which type of lunker you're handing in:
1 - Fire Ammonite Lunker
2 - Jawless Skulker Lunker
3 - Fat Sleeper Lunker
4 - Black Lake Lunker
5 - Blackwater Whiptail Lunker
6 - Abyssal Gulper Lunker
7 - Sea Scorpion Lunker
8 - Felmouth Frenzy Lunker

It'll work like this:
Right-click Nat Pagle, spam macro 3 times, and you've handed in 1 lunker.
It'll go faster than handing them in manually, and you won't have to download some addon either.

To be able to turn these in, you need to have a lvl 3 fishing shack (you can buy the blueprint when you've completed Draenor Angler). When you've built it, you need to complete the quest "Luring Nat" which you will get at the shack, you simply fish in lava but make sure you are not in your garrison meanwhile. After that, pick up the quest "Finding Nat Pagle". You'll be sent to Krasarang Wilds to find Nat Pagle and to turn in the quest. He'll then give you the quest "The Great Angler Returns" which sends you back to the Garrison. After that, you have to do the quest Nat Pagle gives you called "A True Draenor Angler". Turn it in and accept his quest and you get him as a follower+you can turn in lunkers.

So, simple steps;

Do the achievement "Draenor Angler"
Buy lvl 3 blueprint for fishing shack+build it
Do "Luring Nat"
Do "Finding Nat Pagle"
Do "The Great Angler Returns"
Do "A True Draenor Angler" (dont fish in schools & dont use any other bait than Pagle's)
Accept the quest from Nat Pagle
Able to turn in Lunkers!

I've read through some of the comments made about this item. No you don't have to be level 700 in fishing to fish these guys up. I'm working on the daily quest named: Blind Lake Sturgeon and I was fishing in a pool of them. I didn't have a bait on my pool, I'm only level 45 in fishing and I got one on my second cast. The drop rate, I'm unsure of as of right now.

Unless I miscalculated, I fished 377 enormous fat sleepers and along them came 42 lunkers. Fishing skill was at 1100 and I was fishing only in pools around the TotE in Nagrand.

Don't know if it's a coincidence or not but I've only caught 2 of these fish before and both of them were at the pool that spawned at 39,49, underneath the waterfall that's there.

Can confirm that it is possible to get without having Nat as a follower, without having any fishing dailies active and without 700 fishing skill. Just got two from two different pools on my rogue, 430 fishing (with the bauble it barely reaches 500). The first time I got it along with a Blind Lake Sturgeon, the second time with an Enormous one.

You'll have better luck with other fish than blind lake sturgeon. fat sleeper in Nagrand, for instance.

I'm SO confused. I could NOT be more confused. While I was working on getting Nat for my Garrison Fishing shack, I caught SEVEN OF THESE in a matter of one or two minutes. SEVEN! That makes NO SENSE at all in context with EVERYTHING I am reading yet I did it, and I got my seven coins when I finally unlocked Nat. WHAT the hell? How did I catch 7 in a minute or two? There is NOTHING I have found that says this should be possible at all. I know, I know, RNG, I get it. I know 1% doesnt' mean 1 every 100 exactly. I get that. But as low as the apparent drop rate is, how in the world could I have gotten 7 in 1-2 minutes? It's extremely unlikely, so what else could have been going on? Is there more to this? Did blizzard change something? This is driving me mad.

I went fishing in shadowmoon valley on a character with a high enough fishing skill to get nothing but enormous fish. I fished long enough to catch 100 Enormous Blind Lake Sturgeon. I found I was able to keep the Blind Lake Sturgeon Bait indefinitely since every time I used one, it was never long before I fished up another one, ready to use when the current one ran out.

It took a little under half an hour to get that many and during that time I got the following.

100 Enormous Blind Lake Sturgeon
15 Enormous Crescent Saberfish
6 Blind Lake Lunker
A few different types of baits such as Sharpened Fish Hook. More than I was able to use in that time.

I also killed Nat Pagle a few times. How? Because I was fishing with water walking. Every time I showed up to give advice, he'd appear under water and drown after a few seconds. You would think a master fisherman would be smarter than that. :)

This is what I found out about a "general" drop rate as of patch 7.2:
Over the course of 2 hours, I casted 503 times and caught 23 Blind Lake Lunkers.
- That is about a 5% drop rate, 1 lunker per 22 casts, or about 1 lunker every 5-6 minutes.

Keep in mind the follow variables:
- I was fishing in the pond at 22 : 20 west of the Alliance garrison.
- My fishing level was 1200 (800 base + Tentacled Hat + Ephemeral Fishing Pole + Worm Supreme)

I read that the max stack you could hold at once was 5, this has been removed since I was able to hold 23 at once (divided in stacks of 20)

Easiest to farm, because it is in Shadowmoon Valley where the garrison is.
Got 2 in 40 fishes caught.
Only used: Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat + Big Iron Fishing Pole + 800 skill

I did 1500 casts at 'Gloomshade Grove' - the lake just outside (south east) of your garrison in Shadowmoon Valley. I had the following equipped:

Hightfish Cap
Ephemeral Fishing Pole
Worm Supreme

Which gives +400 to fishing. This is in Legion, so with max fishing, this gave me a total of 1200 fishing skill.

Results:
1066 x Enormous Crescent Saberfish
287 x Enormous Blind Lake Sturgeon
73 x Blind Lake Lunker
26 x "Fragrant" Pheromone Fish
20 x Bladebone Hook
13 x Sharpened Fish Hook
12 x Worm Supreme
2 x Blind Lake Sturgeon Bait
1 x Awesomefish

So final result is about a 4.9% chance on fishing up Blind Lake Lunker

For those wondering why Nat Pagle from Anglers Wharf doesn't provide a way to turn in your Blind Lunkers, is because you have to recruit him to your garrison and that only after you get your fishing shack to lvl. 3. You can find more info about "how and where" following this link: Nat Pagle#comments (highest rated order, in comments section). I hope i helped you somehow. I also came here searching for answers and had to do some digging to get to this simple, yet long answer. Happy farming and good luck!

I have just for that you should do what Nat says when he rides up to you. get drunk when fishing and Lurkers you will catch every 30 to 50 cast's

Now that WoD is over, Worm Supreme are in very low supply. So I was trying to figure out if it was worth it to use all these expensive baits to boost my fishing skill or not. I did a quick experiment (I only did a 10 minute session for each which equaled between 35-40 casts) and these are my findings (This would apply to all Lunkers in all zones.):

Summary: Fishing skill from 800 - 1195 made NO difference on Lunker drop rate. It seems there is a cut-off somewhere between 860 and 1035 where you will stop getting Crescent Saberfish and Jawless Skulker. In my opinion, it is not worth it to boost your fishing level more than whatever gear you happen to have if all you are going for is Lunkers. The cost of the baits (high) vs the market price of the Enormous fish (low) makes it not worth worrying about.

I've known you can always carry a max of 5 lunkers (same kind) at a time. Today I fished up, and so far it's letting me past 5.. Have 6 in bag and still going... Looks like the 5 cap is removed (see image: Image of Lunker in bag).

A lot of the information on lunkers seems to be for older patches, there's not a lot for the new way of things with 8.0.1 and the expansion-specific fishing leveling. I had never done any fishing in WoD, but wanted the mount reward and so started working on this a couple days ago.

I think that the lunker droprate in open water is abysmally low, but the drop rate for pools is decent. I decided to gather some data on my own (Note I am maxed out base fishing, using Dragon fishing pole and Hightfish Cap in SMV):

100 casts in open water -> 32 small, 27 regular, 41 enormous, 0 lunkers
100 casts in schools -> 100 enormous, 12 lunkers

So when you're in open water, you're going to get ~33% each of small/regular/enormous, and no/trace lunkers. Casting in pools, on the other hand, is something like a 10-15% catch rate.

Note: You can still catch lunkers in SMV in 8.0.1 before getting Nat Pagel, and they are still not unique

I'm going to test this out in other areas (I'll also try without the rod and stupid hat), but I'll probably just go to an area with lots of pools (i.e. talador or south of spires) and fish there until I get my 100 or so lunkers for the mount.

So, since I have been on the "Lurker" fishing quest, after you have Nat Pagle as a Follower. (wonderful guides and comments here on wowhead.com to help with that). I went to the above comments (THANK YOU) to the 65.21 Shadowmoon Valley coordinates and have found in general going to Embaari Village, and the waters around that area seem very resourceful.
I want to comment that I tried for the fish in Lunarfall that are supposed to be helpful and none dropped in 15-20 mins. Also, other comments reveal that after 8.01 it may have been very decreased with the nerf on professions. I think it is still quite reasonably possible to get coins for the Crimsom Water Strider (my goal).
Currently I am equipped with: The Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole from Wrath, Angler's Fishing Raft, Nat's Hat (giving 10+ fishing) from Pandaria Expansion and also the Blind Lake Sturgeon Bait. Also I can't forget the Oversized Bobber
I seem to be receiving an average in this area about 5 Sturgeon Lurkers every 30 mins. Which is better than I hoped it could be. I am trying to get the Crimson Water Strider. I actually stacked 10 Lurkers and may have stacked more? Also, at times I was able to receive one after another 'Lurker's'.... that was awesome . I would say, if you see pools go for them, but they are not vital. I have received about 50 in 4 or so hours.

This is after the BFA expanse release, so it is still possible reasonably to get this mount or Lucky Nat's Coins. I hope this helps someone working for this also. I have hope.
As a funny aside, Nat Pagle seems to show up every few minutes on my raft talking about patience (and beer) then passes out behind me....hmmm.

I'm unsure if this affects anyone else, but I have been able to catch Blink Lake Lunkers with a level 2 Fishing Shack, and without Pagle in the Shack.

So I had 12 Blind Lake Lunkers when I finally got Nat Pagle to my garrison.

I have not caught any of the other Lunkers before I recruited Pagle.

It could be because I was playing Alliance, and it was in their "zone" that I could find Blind Lake Lunkers. But it doesn't really make sense to let people find Lunkers before they can turn them in.

I might just be lucky, but the small pond across from Socrethar's Rise (/way 53.41, 66.99) has been incredibly lucky for me while farming for the achievement for the level three fishing shack.

I fish in pools appearing here, and out of 22 casts I have gotten five of these.

Upon getting the achievement and recruiting Nat, I had 12 lunkers from fishing this pool alone.

I fished them up from schools while doing 100 Enormous catches achievement, so I didn't have 3 rank fishing shack by then. Might be a bug.

If you have catch Blind Lake Lunker before having your fishing shack on lvl 3, just save them.

To turn them in, you have to level up your Fishing shack to lvl 3 and then complete this quest A True Draenor Angler after that, all the quest for every lunker fish will show up.

I got 7 of these lunkers while fishing for the 100 fish needed for Blind Lake Sturgeon Angler achievement, and fished ONLY from pools. Took me about 40 min to get the achievement and the 7 lunkers along with it.
PATH: In Shadowmoon Valley, up and an down the river as you look on the map, starting at the Anguish Fortress and turning back around at Darktide Roost. Midpoint, I went up the river leading to Embaari Village.

Per Fishing Buddy, the pools that yielded lunkers were in these locations along the path (location name appears on your minimap):
Moonwillow Peak: 2 lunkers
Arbor Glen: 3 lunkers
Swamplight Trail: 2 lunkers

Wanted to type up a guide of my experience on Nat's Lunkers as of Shadowlands patch 9.1

Nat Pagle in this incarnation has 6 friendship tiers
Stranger
Acquaintance
Buddy
Friend
Good Friend
Best Friend

Each friendship level is 8,200 reputation, and each lunker gives 385 reputation per turn in. It takes 22 lurkers for each friend tier. As of patch 9.1 you can carry all 22 lunkers required for each friend tier in your bag at a time (assuming your fishing up the same one as I did) and each Lunker has a less than 2% drop chance (I don't want to say 1% because I feel like fishing items and level play a huge part in this, When I would forget to apply my lures and other fishing items it would take ages to get a lunker until I reapplied everything and started getting them more frequently, so don't forget your lures and lagers!). 1 lunker turn in gives 1 "Nat's Lucky Coin" and the 385 rep and the coins can be used to buy rep based items.

Nat's Drinking Hat - Purchased at "friend" status, it increases your fishing by 8 and has the ability to attach a special lure to your pole increasing your fishing by another 10 for 10 minutes
Cost 25: coins

Draenic Fishing Pole - This pole is purchased at "friend" status and increases your fishing skill by 13, and can also apply a special lure increasing your fishing by 10 for 10 minutes as well. This pole is Alliance only
Cost: 25 coins

Left Shark - Shark pet purchased at "good friend" status
Cost: 50 coins

Sea Calf - Sea calf pet purchased at "stranger" status (couldn't find on him where it said any status of friendship required so I'm assuming it's at stranger but if not please let me know and ill edit)
Cost:50

Angler's Water Strider - Mount equipment that doesn't require a friendship tier, gives your mount the ability to walk on water
Cost 47 Gold 58 Silver

Reins of the Crimson Water Strider - Mount purchased at "best friend" status
Cost 100 coins

Nat's Draenic Fishing Journal - Permanently increase your skill in Draenor fishing by 25 up to a max of 100
Cost 25 coins

All in all, it takes about 110 Lunkers to get all the way to best friend status with this Nat Pagle. When you have reached "best friend" you also receive the famed "Nat's Fishing Chair" in your mailbox as well! it is essentially a mirrored copy of the TCG fishing chair.

As always the level 3 fishing shack is still gated behind the achievement "Draenor Angler" which is still essentially the same, catch 100 enormous fish for each area, which unlocks the blueprints to the level 3 fishing shack. If you have already achieved this on another character and want to get the hat on an alt, this is not required a second time, and as of patch 9.1, you only need Draenor fishing skill level 80 for the quest "Luring Nat" to show up instead of max level like before.

Rank 2 Fishing shack working on draenor-angler. Didnt get any lunkers until I was 4 out of 7 and started fishing in Blind Lake Sturgeon Angler pools.
