This fight feels like a reference to a boss fight from Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Arrghus is the Boss of the Swamp Palace, and appears densely surrounded by multiple little eyeballs These things make it invulnerable to normal attacks. The eyeballs must be pulled away using the Hookshot and killed before boss can be defeated. Sound familiar?

After dying twice in this fight, I tried DPSing the eye down. After a long time, the cinematic poped and the quest was over. I suppose you could probably just run around on the platform and not do a thing to complete this quest.

In this fight you do not fight the eye directly. Instead you are helping by killing the eye's helpers.
Running over one of the spears that appear on the ground give you an action button. Click it and one of
the eye's helpers get pulled down to the ground. After killing some , the eye
flees and the fight is over.

While fighting the eye's helpers you are attacked-- a swirl will appear below you. Run out of it to avoid damage.

I don't know how but I got to Eye of the jailer level 5, as I was trying to complete this chapter, which would remove the eye, and I have to wait until tomorrow. So stupid.

The spears on the ground summon small eyes for you to kill. If you struggle with dying on this quest, I recommend finishing off each small eye and healing up before summoning the next one. If you just keep clicking on spears, they might get overwhelming.

The fight ended for me when the big eye boss was at 89%, after killing 4 or 5 small eyes. You can the damage the big eye, but you don't have to -- Danica will do it for you.

If you were doing stuff in the maw before fighting the eye, be aware that if your Eye of the jailer is on lvl 5 this quest will be close to impossible.

Hi all

I present Focusing the Eye Storyline part of Chains of Domination which is the criteria for Breaking the Chains. This Story line have 16 Quests. I get this Quest after log in to game after path 9.1.0 and i had 40 Renown.

1 A Show of Gratitude Quest start from Tal-Galan 63 24. You need to go to Ve'nari 65 22 in cave.
2 Ease of Passage Speak with Ve'nari then press on Animaflow Teleporter 65 23 - next to waystone to Oribos. Then move back to Cave and pick up Ve'nari's Overstuffed Bag then use Animaflow Teleporter
3 Grab Bag Press on Transferral Augmentor is next to Ve'nari on ground. Move back to Ve'nari and press on Transferral Augmentor one more time.
4 Hearing Aid Find and press on 3 Aural Sequencer in order: 64 57 then 67 58 then 64 50 ( You can use spell on EXTRA BAR to get invisibility.
5 Birds of a Feather Move to 67 55 and speak with Danica the Reclaimer is in cage.
6 The Caged Bird Move to cave use spell on EXTRA BAR to get invisibility then go to end of corridor and kill Kjellrun and pick up Helwrought Seal then move back to Danica the Reclaimer to open cage.
7 Claim the Sky Speak with Danica the Reclaimer Cinematic will start after all you will be moved to Skyhold.
8 A Hate-Hate Relationship move to 58 78 after conversation with Odyn press on EXTRA BAR then finish quest to Odyn.
9 Fury Given Voice You need to forged Newly Forged Horn to start speak with Master Smith Helgar. Then Master Smith Helgar will ask for 1 of 3 materials every 5-10 sec. Read what He is asking for the press on Powdered Flux, Bone Dust of Heroes or Honey Mead all of them are on right side from forge. Return Quest to Odyn.
10 The Chosen Few Go to 72 35 and use Horn of Challenge to get on Arena and defeat 3 Challengers then give back quest to Weaponmaster Asvard 72 37
11 Wrath of Odyn Speak with Odyn
12 Mawsplaining First jump in to Shyhold Portal 58 24 then in Oribos jumt to Maw then speak with Ve'nari.
13 Anger Management Use Siphoning Device on Furious Shade to drain 100% rage. located in Maw 33 30 return quest to Projection of Ve'nari 37 26
14 Tears of the Damned Pick up 10 of Tears of the Damned from ground in Maw 33 30 return quest to Projection of Ve'nari 37 26
15 Focusing the Eye Move to 42 21 and use spell on EXTRA BAR. Now you need to defeat Eye of the Jailer. Danica will drop harpoons all the time Use them to pull Small Eys. When You will kill all small. after finish this quest You will get Blind the Eye ( no more Eye of the Jailer in MAW :D ).
16 Good News, Everyone! Speak with Danica to fly to Highlord Bolvar Fordragon speak with him then finish Quest.

Fighting it solo at Eye level 1, I just waited and DPSd the Eye for a while and then did one smaller eye, and the fight finished with the Eye around 88%

Holy Pally here and not much damage done at a time on that spec - I've killed 5 of the 6 little eyes and then died at least 4 times now. Hints to help would be: The spears will bring an extra button up when you get near them I was able to get 2 little eyes at the same time on me too which helped to keep fighting. My problem is that I'm on Starlink internet and when it switches the link I'm paused and kicked out to then die - not sure if there's anything I can do to go any faster so food, potions, everything buffed up tomorrow to try again.(only tier 2 eye of the jailer but maybe less than that might work better).

Not sure how to stop longer fights and getting kicked without changing specs but she's got this far from 2004 on only Holy Spec and I'd hate to have to switch her - guess I might need a new main but I sure hope not

I got smoked the first time I tried this. As soon as a golden spear dropped, I used it, thinking it was DPSing the boss (the perspective is hard in this little arena).

However, using the golden spears is what brings the smaller eyes down. So just bring them 1 at a time, kill it, heal up, then throw a golden spear and pull down the next one. The fight is over when all the little eyes are killed. The big eye's health isn't relevant.

I could not target the little eyes to start off. I had to hit the big guy
first with the special action button and then one of them targeted
me and hijinks ensued. Three Deaths before I got a clue. ::sigh::

If you get hit with the attack that summons copies of you that shoot you with beams, you can walk over said copies to absorb them. Otherwise they'll burn you down pretty quickly.

Stupid quest, OK.....So I got logged at the 1st bag stage and can't get the Ve'nari image to appear again. Tried running/riding there to no avail...Suggestions?

what i did in the fight i dound it quite fun, started out with the really big eyeball and that had 6 smaller eyeballs around him
i got the spear and after a throw it brought down one of the smaller eyeballs
killed that and repeated till all are dead
if you see the swirl on the ground run out of it, if you don't then it spawns copies of you which
sends streams of damage to you, what you do here is simply run into the copies and they disappear
and stop damaging you
after all asmall eyeballs are dead you get the last spear chuck it at the big eyeball and the cinimatic starts
then you are off to hand in to lord forddragon

For me, as a fragile glass cannon, Slow and Steady won the race. It seems there's no time limit. So keep moving. When ready for the first small eye, pop all cooldowns and try to avoid ground effects. Once it's dead, just keep walking (to avoid those ground effects) until your cd's reset. Then tackle the next eye. I think you end up having to tackle more eyes this way. But it means it's doable for anyone. I had to kill all 6 eyes. But it got done, and I never have to face this again. lol

Weird quest.

As others said you run over the spears to bring down the small eyes, bring one down at a time since it's not about killing them all (weirdly). It's about killing some number like 4. No use even attacking the big eye at all.

Is no one else bothered by the Val'kyr with a scottish accent?

What a weird questline just to get rid of the Eye of the Jailer...

Edit: I did it on a 2nd toon and it was completely different. The spears appeared much slower (rarely was there more than one) so I had no choice but to fight one eye at a time. And I had to defeat all the eyes. Who knows whether they fixed it or whether this is just more bugs and RNG.

That was rather unenjoyable. Bears don't do a lot of damage so it took me a long time of hitting four buttons over and over with a few cooldowns in between.

The mini eyeballs should be non-elite. No one wants to fight for five minutes then not even get to take a whack at the "boss"...

I would strongly recommend doing this with a group. It's hard enough as it is, with all the different elements of the fight to keep track of. I died four times trying to solo it, even after reading all the comments here. With a group, it was manageable.

If you end up with no Eye and no horn like I did after running away - simply log off and back on and you'll have your horn again.

I dont know if its intended, because it doesnt fit the encounter. Maybe it's a bug, but that was really pretty interesting :D For a moment i felt like im playing autnentic WoW. Yes, music in wow plays huge role

This quest is just entirely unfun and tedious as @#$%. You have to kill several elite enemies all while four entire NPCs sit on their asses and do nothing, and one of them repeatedly screams at you to tell you !@#$ you already know.

You blow the horn and the Eye of the Jailer appears with several smaller eyes.

When the fight starts two pools of light will periodically appear on the ground. The larger pale blue light is the damaging one - run out of it. The small yellow one creates a spear, go to it and an action button appears. You don't have to target anything, just hit the action button and one of the small eyes becomes attackable. It's difficult to tell which because of the perspective of the fight, but it does. Kill it, grab another spear and repeat.

The only thing that really damages you is the three figures that appear if you are caught in the larger pale blue pool of light. If that happens run to each figure and it disappears.

Unless you get caught in that pale blue light you won't take any damage - so DON'T PANIC. Take it easy, focus on which of the small eyes you have pulled to you with the spear.

You don't have to kill all the small eyes. I think I killed four and seriously damaged a fifth and the Eye of the Jailer gives up and there's a cinematic.

I tried to kill the lil eyes with my demon hunter, repeatedly only to be killed, last time ran around avoiding the white swirls when Danica got the big eye down to almost 80% jumped in using her spears attacking smaller eyes and cut scene started.

Have you ever been a younger sibling that happily waited on the sidelines while your older hero siblings did something difficult, like dispel a threat, or carry you through a dungeon you've never been in, or something like that?

Well, here's where you can SHINE, despite still being that helpless tag-along!

My fake "fight" with the Eye lasted 6 minutes, with me doing exactly the same avoidant strategies I do in raids or other tense situations...
- avoiding fire/swirlies that appear on the ground
- ignoring the pleas and cries for help from allies
- occasionally throwing a lame spell at the boss so I can say, "I helped!"
- not picking up or running over anything important (like those spears!)

So my usual technique of avoiding danger and coming out of it alive WORKED!

Just did this on the Fifth of July. 200 ilvl feral druid. After a couple deaths, I read the techniques here and the staying on the outside ring and platforms worked well. I waiting for a spear and used it and burned down each add as it came. I had time to heal if needed. Avoid the swirls, aggro the adds only with the spear and you'll take no damage. If the copies of you spawn, walk through them and they will vanish. After 4 adds, I went to the cut scene.

My feeble 170 Sub Rogue did this by running around the outside of the fight area and keeping a watch out for the nasty white swirlies. Whilst staying out of the way I used Shuriken Toss to build combo points, then ran in for an Eviscerate when I had six.

Whilst doing this, I kept an eye out for the golden spears to appear. I would run through one, then use it to bring down and defeat one of the Eye's guardians. Just one at a time.

After defeating all six of the guardians, the Eye fled and I had done it! The whole fight took about seven or eight minutes.

Twiddler is the squishiest Rogue in all of WoW, so if he can do it, you can too. Good luck! :)

You're supposed to use the spears, but honestly it's faster and less annoying to just ignore the spears, dodge the swirlies, and DPS the big eye down to 80%. When you get it to 80%, the cinematic will pop up and the quest will finish.

If you're here because your Venthyr campaign says you need to complete Focusing the Eye to continue, and you can't find this quest anywhere, the fix is to go do the Unfortunate Situation and subsequent quests. They are not marked with the shield but they are actually required.

Did this on my ilvl 196 Unholy DK. Tbh you don't even need to use the spear or kill the mini eyes. Just DPS on the main eye and dodge the swirlies. When the main eye drops to around 80% HP, the cinematic starts. Also, not a good idea to do this when the Eye of the Jailer is at tier 3 or above. RIP my lost Stygia...

Is this dopey quest bugged? It keeps glitching on me and the eye just disappears. Then it takes me 20 minutes to get the horn back to even start the fight over again? Anyone else with this issue

To summarize all the above...

After you blow the horn:

1) Get to the edge and stay there. You'll only need to move a little left or right at any one time to easily stay alive.

2) Dodge/avoid blue swirl areas on the ground. Occasionally the Eye will shoot white plasma-like balls where you stand to create the swirls but giving you enough time to get out of the way (and you should never have more than one on the ground at a time). If you're slow and shadow mirror-image mobs appear, you MUST quickly run into them to absorb them; this is really the only danger in the scenario.

3) Yellow swirls will appear and create a spear. Optional - Just click on it (no aiming) and it will be thrown to draw a small 'add' eye; DPS it down while keeping on the lookout for the Eye to attack with that plasma to create a blue swirl as in #2 above. One add eye at a time is not dangerous so do not throw more spears to draw another until the one your fighting is down. Not killing adds may keep the fight going longer; I've done this scenario a couple times and saw no reason to avoid drawing one add at a time.

4) You may get to a point where no more spears appear. DPS the boss Eye while 'rinse-and-repeating' #2 above. Eventually you'll get to the victory cut scene.

Rule 1. Stay out of the bluish-white swirls. If one lands on it run out ... first priority.
Rule 2. The yellow swirls drop golden spears. Run through one to acquire it.
Use the spears carefully.
-- each time you throw a spear, you attract a small eye
-- throw 3 spears in a row and you'll be fighting 3 eyes ... this is not fun
Rule 3. Throw one spear to draw one eye and throw no more spears until it's dead.
Rule 4. If ghostly figures show up and aim light beams at you, hit each one once ... they die instantly.
Rule 5. If you don't see any spears, then go and do damage to the big eye. This is futile but will make you feel better. Eventually, more spears will drop down.
REPEAT

Just completed this quest. Do NOT use the spears but move out of the white swirls. The spears cause the helpers to attack you. Focus on the Jailer only until about 80%. Voila :)

After dying a few times, I read some of the posts here. The key insights are:

Move quickly when you see swirlies on the ground
Run over the clones if you get trapped between them
The big eye doesn't regenerate health, so just keep dodging and firing until the eye gets down to 80%, at which point the encounter will end
There's no need to pick up the spears and kill the mini-eyes. Just focus on the big eye, like the title says

It takes a while to get the eye's health down (I did this as Holy Priest), but if you stay out of the swirlies, it's actually pretty easy -- you don't even need to self heal if you run as soon as you see the swirlies forming underneath you. No need to rush it, just take your time.

Just did it on my prot paladin itl 182. After dying the first time, I came here to read some comments, I tried out not throwing any spears and it worked! You don't need to fully kill it, just get it down to about 80%. When your dark shadows appear just run into them and they will disappear, then continue attacking the eye. No need to throw spears or target the other eyes. It works but it will take a bit! Also yeah, avoid the big swirlies!

Batatinhas Guide to 'Focusing the Eye' – Chain of Domination – The Maw

This quest is a headache for many players, not being a particular good or knowledgable player, so it was for me. I died a number of times, before I worked out how to approach and finish this quest without stress and frustration. I have now made a step by step guide that takes you through the mechanics and and what to do and not to do, once you know this, the quest is actually very easy.

1. Stay calm - take your time, there is no reason to rush it.

2. Neither the major nor the minor eyes will attack you, without you having attacked them first.

3. The minor eyes do not do any damage of significance.

4. There are two kinds of swirls, which appears on the ground.

1. Orange swirls – they appear where the spears needed to call down the minor eyes. You pick them up, simply by running through them. Do stick to one eye at a time and only call down the next one, once you have killed the first one, and so on.

2. White swirls – avoid them like the plague. If you stay in them, clones of your character will pop up siphoning you life or hp, whatever you like to call it. If this happens, stop fighting the eye you are killing, it wont do you much harm, run to the clones and stand on them to make them disappear. Then turn back to the minor eye you are killing, bring it down and so forth.

Keep repeating this until the quest is finished (a short cinematic will be played), at the latest when the last of the minor eyes have been killed. Between each pulling down the killing of a minor eye, you have plenty of time to buff and heal yourself, no need to rush. Even during this break spears will appear, so fear not, you will be able to continue the quest.

When I started this quest, I was at 2 out of 5 for the jailer's eye. However, shortly after the fight started the eye despawned . I didn't die and I didn't pull him off the platform. I also lost the horn to summon him. Now I don't know what to do, has anyone else had this happen?

1/2/22 still confirming. did it on my dh. just attack the eye and stay away from the grey pools that spawn.

IF you get hit with the grey pool run to the opposite of the platform to break it (30 yards)

I read all the comments above, and there's clearly several ways of doing it, but for those who like to keep things simple, here's a 2 step guide to what I feel is the easiest way...

1) DPS the big eye until it gets to 80% - ignore the little eyes and the spears
2) Keep out of the white circles (if you don't, walk through each of the mirror images draining you).

Jumped on my Paladin after taking a break from the game for a while. He had the Ilskahorn still on his back. Ofc I couldn't remember what it was at the time, but it was annoying. Took forever to figure it out but basically if you start the quest chain starting with A Show of Gratitude, at some point (maybe around Fury Given Voice) you get the Ilskahorn and it is visible on your back. From that point on you cannot get rid of it, no matter what you do, until you go further into the quest chain up to and including Focusing the Eye.

You can stay mounted to avoid pools until the eye gets down to 3.95m health strictly via NPC damage. At that point, their attacks don't reduce his health any further, and you have to start hitting him. Don't AOE, and the little eyes never hit you. No spears required.

I couldn't interact with the spears. Running over them seemed to make them vanish, but they weren't clickable, I had no extra action button and no smaller eyes appeared. Did as other comments suggested & DPSed the boss to 80% and it ended, triggering the cinematic.

I hate this quest so much. It seems like when I use the spears they immediately target the smaller eyes, when I target the large eye zero damage has been done to it. My eye of the jailer isn't even at the first mark, every time I have 4 eyes on me before I die. This ranks up with one of the worst quests/fights to date.

I followed the advice of the top comment : kill about 4 of the small eyes. So I died 4 times and had to kill ALL the small eyes (I think there were eight to start) before the cinematic kicked in. The fight took just over an hour. Very frustrating. Wish I'd read the next comments, that said just run around the platform avoiding the splash attacks.

Seems to have some issues following the 10.0 update.
The horn may not appear on your back, so run off of the circle platform (towards the river) and re-enter, that should give you the prompt for the Horn (Extra ability button).

During the fight, standing on the spears didn't cause any UI updates for me. I'd recommend binding a macro for "/click ExtraActionButton1" because that workaround seems to work.

Description

The combination of grief and rage you have harvested is sufficient for your needs. Most likely. If you insist on seeing this ill-advised endeavor through, use the horn at the Terminus Platform, where the River of Souls flows upward to Torghast. The energies there are most potent indeed. The presence of your golden allies should draw the Jailer's Eye. I only hope this does not prove to be the end of you. I hate to see an investment wasted.
