The NPC you're looking for, Master Smith Ared, is laying down in the tent nearest the wall. He's hard to find because he's flat on the ground and not interactive/doesn't show up on mouseover.

This quest was awkward to get to trigger. You just need to walk up to him (really close to him) and it'll trigger the NPC standing up next to him, Miall, to start her bit and give you quest credit.

You need to choose the arsenal instead of the arcane sanctum to accept this quest line.

Apprentice Miall says: You wish to speak with Ared? I'm sorry, his wounds were great and the illness too strong.

TL;DR

Walk right up to the dead guy laying down right next to Miall in the tent.

In fact... trample him with your mount just to be sure you're close enough.

Accept The Quarry Quandary from Foreman Eksos at coords 69.8, 20.8.

1. The Quarry Quandary - (Video) - Travel out of Fort Wrynn through the western exit and then to coords 69.2, 19.3, turn the quest in to Apprentice Miall, accepting In Ared's Memory.

In Ared's Memory - Enter Fort Wrynn, and turn this quest in to Miall, now located inside your Wyrnn Artillery Tower.
• Accept the quests, Out of Jovite, Gas Guzzlers, and Iridium Recovery from her at the same time.

2. Out of Jovite - (Video) - Exit Fort Wrynn, and travel east to the entrance of a cave at coords 75.3, 22.3.
• Loot 12 Jovite Ore, which appear as small green pieces of ore that are located in the walls, inside the cave.

3. Iridium Recovery - (Video) - As you progress through the cave, kill Iridium Geode and loot the Iridium Dust from their corpses. The Iridium Geode appear as flying purple crystals that "patrol" the cave.

4. Gas Guzzlers - (Video) - Defeat Goren in this cave and use your Goren Gas Extractor on them to obtain 6 Goren Gas Samples.
• You can use your Hearthstone to get back to Fort Wrynn more quickly, or travel back on foot.
• Turn in the quests to Miall, at coords 70.1, 20.2, inside your Wyrnn Artillery Tower.

Plesae tell me, why can't I start this quest? I am 96lv and finished building sanctuary.

Why are we sent all over the map to complete other stortlines in other zones by people in your own garrison? Are we not supposed to do shadowmoon valley first and build up the garrison? Instead i am sent on one long goose chase after another as they attempt to get me to do quests that have nothing to do with building up your garrsison. You land in shadowmoon and build your garrison but then are sent all over?

The Quarry Quandary

Speak to Apprentice Miall just outside of Fort Wrynn in Talador.

Description

Now that we have the artillery tower built, we're going to need some skilled hands to run it.

I've heard that Ared, one of the best smiths in Shattrath, managed to escape the city's fall. He should be just outside the north wall with the rest of the refugees.

See if you can convince him to work for us.
