Here is my Quicklist Guide to the Cataclysm Section of the Pet Trainer Quests. This is a quick reference to see what type of pets you will need to defeat the trainers easily. On Trainers who have the same type of pet for all 3 pets in their party, I would recommend you bring at least two pets that are the opposite type (i.e. bring three appropriate leveled Mechanical types to fight three trainer Beasts). Don't rely on fighting all three of their pets with just one of yours, despite the fact that they will have stronger attacks and defeat them quicker.

Cataclysm Trainer Quest Line

To defeat these trainers with maximum efficiency, you will need pets of the following type:
Beast, Dragonkin, Aquatic, Mechanical

Brok – Mount Hyjal – Level 25
Quickteam List – Mechanical, Dragonkin
Pet 1: Ashtail – Beast – Use Mechanical
Pet 2: Kali – Magic – Use Dragonkin
Pet 3: Incinderous – Critter – Use Beast

Bordin Steadyfist – Deepholm – Level 25
Quickteam List – Aquatic, Beast
Pet 1: Ruby – Elemental – Use Aquatic
Pet 2: Crystallus – Critter – Use Beast
Pet 3: Fracture – Elemental – Use Aquatic

Bordin Steadyfist:

Crystallus - Critter
Ruby - Elemental
Fracture - Elemental

You'll probably want to have a critter considered a "roach" on your team because Crystallus uses Apocalypse. Although it's very possible to knock this out in less than 15 turns, he opens with this ability most of the time so you'll need to burn his pets in less than 15 turns. Beetles are also considered roaches for the purpose of this ability.

I suggest a fast pet for Crystallus because he uses Hiss so Flank does extra damage OR consider a pet with Powerball to keep your speed up. Softshell Snapling (or any Pandarian turtle) is a good choice because it has Bite AND the elemental pets later in the fight will be weak against it. (Sifang Otter Pup is also a good choice because it can have both Aquatic AND Beast abilities so is strong against all three of his pets.

Stack Aqatic pets for the two elementals (turtles, toads, or the previous suggested.) and you'll have no problem with the elemental pets (although you probably will lose at least one pet to Crystal Overload.

Nearest Stable Master: Beast-Handler Rustclamp (Horde) / Mule Driver Ironshod (Alliance)

Amythel - Magic
Twilight - Elemental

Use any pet with Aquatic abilities to make quick work of the Elemental Pet (Any frog, toad or turtle, even Water Waveling) Laser hit's pretty hard and Darkflame reduces healing, so you might forgo a HP focused healer for a damage focused Aquatic with Cleansing Rain for harder hits. Lifelike Toad is a good choice for this fight too because Laser does reduced damage against Mechanical. Try not to kill it while Dark Rebirth is up (because then it basically gets a couple rounds for free until it dies)... either switch pets or use a healing ability when it's up if you're close to killing it.

Any Dragonkin will eat his Magic pet alive. I prefer a pet with Scorched Earth, so I can use Conflagrate to burst down another one of his pets. (Fel Flame is amazing for this fight because it has Flame Breath AND Scorched Earth, so he will make quick work of the magic pet and still have a double hit Conflagrate for the next pet. (Although he does have Creeping Ooze (Aquatic) that is strong against Elemental, it still does piddly damage.)

Any mechanical will do well against his Beast (I used (Landro's Lil' XT or Lil' XT) for Tympanic Tantrum and it was nearly dead before it hit the front line.) (Also, interesting to pair Tympanic Tantrum with Call Lightning for some serious back line damage against Beasts, so Wild Golden Hatchling isn't a bad choice for this fight either because it's Breath is strong against Magic.)

Nearest Stable Master: Kennen (Alliance) Rukh Zumtarg(Horde)

Brok

Kali - Magic
Ashtail - Beast
Incinderous - Critter

Any Dragonkin will eat his Magic pet alive. I prefer a pet with Scorched Earth, so I can use Conflagrate to burst down another one of his pets. (Fel Flame is amazing for this fight because it has Flame Breath AND Scorched Earth, so he will make quick work of two of his pets.)

If you've got a Mechanical pet that also has Beast moves (Tranquil Mechanical Yeti, Landro's Lil' XT, De-Weaponized Mechanical Companion, Mechanical Squirrel, Personal World Destroyer or Lil' XT all have Thrash) you'll have 1 pet strong against both his Critter and his Beast.

Nearest Stable Master: Aili Greenwillow (Horde/Alliance)

Grand Master Obalis:

Clatter - Critter
Spring - Flying
Pyth - Beast

Don't bother trying to bring a Mechanical for bonus damage against his Beast. Poison Fang does elemental damage, so it will do Strong damage against a Mechanical, so either bring a healing mechanical, or fight this pet with a neutral type. (Flying takes less Beast damage, so Mei Li Sparkler isn't a bad choice because it can be tamed at a higher level (21-22)) Also one should consider Wild Golden Hatchling for this fight because of the bonus Mechanical damage it brings with Call Lightning.

Spring is dispatched easily by any magic dealing pet (I used Emerald Turtle because it has Emerald Bite (although it took quite a lot of punishing from Flying moves being strong against Aquatic). Nordrassil Wisp is the highest level capturable Magic pet that I could find to use, but I chose Emerald Turtle over it simply because I could tame one at a higher level and spend less time leveling it.

Closest Stable Master: Darwishi (Horde/Alliance)

As each of the Alliance and Horde 'Battle Pet Tamers:' quests have a unique quest ID, you are able to carry an Alliance and Horde one at the same time.

They will show as (Account) in your quest log and can be completed by any character.

When you fight each respective Battle Pet Tamer, it will mark off for both Alliance and Horde quest lines and once completed, you will be rewarded with not one but two Sack of Pet Supplies.

It is irrelevant which character you complete this on as both quests will auto-complete in the field. However, the character which accepts the auto-complete will receive the satchels, regardless of which character picked up the quest (this is important if you like your pet goodies on one particular character).

It does not give you a double shot at the Grand Master Quests (example Grand Master Antari)

This is a great way of doubling your chances at pet and battle stone drops.

Team I used for Brok:

25 Rare Darkmoon Tonk
25 Uncommon Blue Clockwork Rocket Bot
25 Rare Amethyst Spiderling

Opened with Clockwork and Sticky Grenade. If grenade misses, toss it again. Tonk finished off Kali with missle. Enter Ashtail. Use Shock and Awe, missle, and ion cannon before Failsafe. Enter Spider and Incinderous. Use Brittle webbing, Leech Life, and spit. Repeat leech life long enough to take out Incinderous.

Tried out a new team.

23 Uncommon Spawn of Onyxia
25 Rare Darkmoon Tonk
25 Uncommon Curious Oracle Hatchling

Opened with Spawn and Scorched Earth. Swaped out for Tonk for blind Spawn. Used Shock and Awe and missle, swapped back Spawn to take blind. Back to Tonk. Enter Ash. Missle and Ion Cannon. Enter Incinderous and Curious Oracle Hatchling. Backflip and punch for the win.

Spawn leveled to 24.

New team:

24 Rare Spawn of Onyxia
25 Rare Darkmoon Zepplin
25 Rare Cogblade Raptor

Opened with Spawn and Scorched Earth. Swaped out for Darkmoon Zeppelin. Missile, then Partially Blinded, then bring back Spawn. Tail sweep kills Kali. Enter Zeppelin and Ashtail. Missle, Failsafe, Decoy, then Explode. Enter Cogblade Raptor which kills Ashtail with a Bite. Enter Incinderous. Screech, Bite, Failsafe, Bite, Raptor dies. Enter Spawn. Scorched Earth for the win.

Spawn leveled to 25.

Really pisses me off that the idea of the pet battles is to try and pick the stronger team and when you do your level 25 rare pets are still getting the %^&* kicked out them.

Does anyone know what the actual required level is to finish this quest? It says level 1 here, which is just the level you can get the quest if you have it on an alt.

If you don't get the quest after completing Northrend:
Apparently some of the recent expansion starter quests phase you in a way that this one quest is not obtainable. So what you want to do, either log in a character, that completed every such quest, or get a new lvl1 (maybe works with below lvl10) character walked here, and get the quest. Naturally it is an account wide quest, so you can delete the character.
Also as said before you can get the quest twice by accepting it on both horde and alliance.

Description

You have defeated Northrend's finest tamers, but you need more preparation before you are ready to face the grand masters of Pandaria. Ready yourself and hone your skills by defeating these elite tamers: Brok in Mount Hyjal, Bordin Steadyfist in Deepholm, and Goz Banefury in Twilight Highlands.

Once you have triumphed over them, you will be ready to journey to Pandaria to face the ultimate challenge.
