You know, if they're going to make me feel this guilty about killing all these animals for no particular reason, they could at least make the questline optional for the zone quest meta achievement.

While this beast is an elite, and over 600K HPs, it is soloable.

My lvl 88 rogue with quest greens and blues stealthed up behind him with all my cool downs ready. Ambush, Garotte, Revealing Strike, SnD, Combat Readiness and then Evasion and Killing Spree.

After this, Darkhide was down almost 50%, but was beginning to channel his dangerous attack, something called Ground and Pound, as I recall. You will know it is happening when you see rocks and dust fly up around you.

The natural urge is to fight through it, which I found suicidal, or to run in a straight line away. This is better, but you still take a ton of damage. Instead, run in a circle around the mob so it can't get a chance to face you until he stops channelling and the dust settles, then go back in and fight some more.

By the end of the battle my 219K HP rougue was still over 50% with no heals, health pots or even using Recuperate. It's the circling motion that made the difference.

Soloed this with my 87 Death Knight with a little effort. Death & Decay, all diseases, Death Coil, Army of the Dead, and Horn of Winter. Ran around in circles during Ground & Pound. Healed once. Pretty easy.

Just solo'd this guy on my 86 warrior, equipped with only quest gear. Piece of cake, so long as you don't stand in the little "earth quake" attack he does.

Piece of cake as arcane mage; if you have the slow glyph, it won't even touch you. Just keep an eye on ground and pound and stay away from shaky ground (y)

I recommend clearing out some of the hostiles near Darkhide before engaging. I found it easiest to clear the area towards the brewery, and then pull him that way before killing him - less trafficated.

Very easily soloed on my 88 Frost Mage, in a mix of T13 and 420-430 blues. Blowing all cooldowns (trinkets, mirrors, orb, veins, lifeblood) and he went down in a few seconds, never got to channel his aoe. Didn't find a need to use time warp, he went down too fast. He looks tough, but he apparently has no armor or immunities.

L88 Arms Warrior - solo'd this quest.. Thanx to help from previous comments ...... just attack Darkhide as you normally would. BUT once he starts his stamping/dust-cloud routine, clear out fer a while. That appears to be the only defence he has.

Isn't it just slightly ironic that the only class that doesn't get a reward from this quest is a Hunter? I mean, seriously, I quote:

"My boy here is a talented hunter... in training. Let's show him an old 'Nessy style hunt shall we?

I saw a mighty big mushan east of here with a hide dark as night. It looked like it had taken down a number of hunters in its day.

If you want a big game hunt, go try an' take it on."

Four references to hunting, just in what good ol' drunken Hemet says to you when you accept this quest.

I'm not whining, they're all crap rewards almost certainly to be immediately vendored anyway, I just think it's hilariously ironic on Blizzard's part. It can't be an oversight, it's got to be intentional, which means it was meant to be funny, and therefore indeed does make it all the more so, in my opinion. LOL. :D

Can be done. Best advice above, clear out the surrounding NPC's so you've got room to run without aggroing them. Then STAY THE @@#$$% out of the moving earth. Run around him when he begins to ground-pound.
