For this quest - you must protect the healers. A green progress bar will appear at the bottom of the screen.

Waves of Deep Sea Ravager will appear and start attacking the healers. Keep the healers alive long enough to heal Shen-zin Su (The Giant Turtle everyone is riding on) and the quest is complete.

Then a new animation starts.

To protect the healers, you should concentrate on those who are near the "wound." If you 're a caster or ranged, stand back by the sailors and hit the Ravagers to grab aggro... pull them back to where you are and the sailors will come and fight them. Don't let the Ravagers beat on the healers... if they die, you'll have to go help another one, until they're free to go heal the wound. Also, if you see a piece of metal lying around, mouse over it and your cursor may become a wheel. Click it and you may free another healer, who is trapped under it. When you free them, they will also go heal the wound. This is a very long fight. I was able to free two healers that were trapped. I had a total of three healers at the wound and it still took about 10 minutes for the progress bar to complete. I hope this info helps you.

I'm not sure if this is any easier in a group/busy area but this is from me doing this quest alone.

I would recommend you rescue 2/3 healers and then defend them.

It may say **/12 healers but that doesn't mean you have to make sure 12 healers are doing their jobs at the same time.

It seems like you get 2-3 mobs for every healer you have rescued, so keep that in mind when defending. If you're low/out of potions like I was, it can get hairy to defend against 6+ mobs at a time. If you're ranged, follow the above advice to pull them back to the otherwise unhelpful NPCs.

Another option is to run around gathering healers as they spawn, letting them get hit by the mobs while you find more, but that's not so effective. I've also had trouble with some healers not heading for the wound at all; the healers nearer to the wound seemed far more responsive than the ones farther out, which may be a current build issue.

Get 3 healers to the wound
get aggro of mobs coming to the healers
use your monk blink/roll to get out towards npc you see (when you are about to die)
small water bubbles on the ground will heal you just enough so you can eat something etc;
and let the healers do their job;

I just did this quest, going solo, and on the first attempt, I failed pretty miserably at defending 2-3 healers. I was just eventually overwhelmed by adds and was getting pretty frustrated. On the next attempt I picked up 5-6 healers, and came back to peel mobs off them for a bit until one or two of them died, then I went back out to collect some to replace them. This seemed to work a whole lot better for me.

This can be done solo, but you're gonna have a bad time. It will take you 30 minutes to complete.

really awful quest :\ just find a healer lying under scrap metal not being attacked. rescue them so they run to the wound and start to heal it. gather up all the mobs that spawn to attack it, then run them over to the npcs to get them to take on some of them, while you find another healer lying under scrap metal to rescue and repeat this process. gather up all the new mobs spawns. drag them over to the npcs. find a new healer under scrap metal if you can. rinse and repeat til the progress bar is done.

i guess you can save the healers not under scrap metal being attacked too, but i couldnt build a strategy this way as a new mob would always spawn to re-attack them before they could go to the wound. so i just ignored these priests and focussed on the ones under scrap metal.

It's pretty stupid that you can't help out with the healing personally, even if you have healing spells or are an actual healing spec.

I found the easiest way to do this alone was to save the three healers closest to the wound, taking only about 15 seconds to save all three (from under sheets of metal) and run back to where they stood healing. Rather than finding more, I simply grabbed the four mobs each time they spawned and pulled them back towards the NPCs. Your health regen should be enough to fully heal you between spawns. This takes about 5-10 minutes, and makes the quest very easy.

Sidenote: I did this as Windwalker (DPS), with no tanky moves or healing spells, so neither Mistweaver or Brewmaster should have trouble with this strategy.

This is easily the worst quest in all of WoW, so far as I have experienced. Just accept that before you get all pissed off.

VERY IMPORTANT: if you die, the counter resets. So just do what I did. Run around and gather all the healers you can, don't bother trying to defend them you will lose and die and the bar will reset. The healers respawn in the same locations after they are killed and mobs will run off somewhere after they have killed the healers, so just send them over and let them die. Maybe one of the idiot NPCs will see they are being attacked and help. Probably not.

If you can, get someone else to help out and THEY can die trying to defend the healers, but really, just pull the healers and let them die.

This quest is a great example of horrible game design.

Truly, this is meant to be done as a group. The mobs spawn far too quickly to protect multiple healers on your own. If a mob even targets a 'freed' healer it's distracted until that mob is dead. That is, unless you'd like to practice grab-that-aggro footwork. Personally, I like the lazy questing route. See Focus Target and Follow Target for instance-healing (not recommended near cliff-edges).

But not all of us are so fortunate as to find groups for quests. So, if soloing:

Find a healer only being attacked by one creature. I found one at (42.8, 85.2), by the water with the Copper Vein. (Frustration leads to Mining; who knew?) Surely there are more like him. Free your one healer from his/her attacker, and then park yourself right there. As the attacker respawns, it'll see you and leave your healer alone, and you'll kill it however you like, over and over and over. That healer will stay on the turtle permanently, effectively leaving you to deal with only one creature at a time for the entirety of this quest. The quest will last awhile, but it'll be easy, and you won't have to go running around headless-chicken style.

Although that might be fun to watch.

Did you know! Druids heal by taking the life from soemwhere else. They can't just make new life pop up.

Malfurion healed the red dragon Korialstrasz in the WotA books, and it ended up making all the grass for yards around black and dead.

The Horde druids healing Shen-zin Su here are sapping life from somewhere else on the island to help him.

Something that helped me a lot with this uphill slog of a quest was to stay near the wound, try to help out the healer or two that start there, and occasionally run around the nearby area looking for healers trapped under pieces of wreckage (You'll see a gear icon above the metal plates). They'll automatically run to the wound site after a few seconds, and you won't have to fight off extra saurok until they're actually there and healing (at which point it gets a bit tricky if you don't have a self-heal. I was on a shaman at the time). It will still take a fair bit of time, but I had 3 or 4 active healers this way, and it seemed to speed things up.

Do yourselves a big favor here and don't even TRY to protect the healers that are actually healing the wound. Just keep running around and either get them from under the wreckage or kill a few nasties and ask for their help. If you rotate doing that, you will get it done. Trying to protect the healers who are healing the wound is a total waste of time on your own. They do NOT come down one at a time if you only have one healer. They come in droves! So, if you want to solo it, just keep going around and get the healers and the quest will be done in under 4 mins and NO deaths. If it does get a little hairy, run through the green orbs you see on the ground :)

Did this quest several times, and found the best way (for me, anyway, using a priest toon) was to free the healers under the metal plates, throw them a Flash Heal, and talk to any healer with the talk balloon if I could get there fast enough. Don't bother defending healers with lizard men on them who are not near the wound. Just keep getting more healers to the wound and doing a bit of defending them. Got it to about ten minutes.

Helllaciously awful quest to do the first time, long long l-o-n-g time to finish.

There's actually no need to do anything. Just stand under the alliance tent, (even if you plan on going Horde) and you will stay out of combat. The progress bar will (admittedly slowly) fill up. Be sure not to AFK out or it will reset. But nothing will attack you, and you will have no frustration.

Sorry for the necro, but just did the quest right now and here is what I did... Nothing. NOTHING! Playing as a solo rogue and getting nowhere fast. So i put stealth on and Alt-Tabbed over to Wowhead to see how you all did on this quest and when I went back the quest was completed and ready for turn in!
That is my strategy and I'm sticking to it.

This quest is a bit of a nightmare to solo since the BFA prepatch. If you're lucky enough to have other people around, it's not too bad, but on your own it's a real bear. The saurok mobs hit hard and they love to gang up on you and the NPC healers you rescue. One of the types of Saurok has a sort of channeled claw attack that absolutely shreds the healers. And if you die, there's a good chance all your progress toward healing the wound will reset.

But there's a way to complete this quest and keep your sanity - if you can heal. Near Ji Firepaw, on the cliffside, there's usually a couple of Alliance priests. One is trapped under some debris and the other is usually fighting a saurok. Save them both, then run over to where Ji and Jojo are standing. Set up shop here. The two healers will run over to the wound and begin healing. Saurok will start leaping onto them and start hurting them pretty bad. Stay near Ji and heal the priests, which will also pull the mobs away and over to where you are. You could also use taunts or ranged attacks to get their attention too.

Ji and Jojo will help you dispatch the saurok. Some nearby alliance soldiers might run over to help you too. Keep the priests healed up, keep pulling the saurok over to the Pandaren, and you'll eventually get there. I don't recommend running off to find more healers to speed things up - the first two priests will probably die quickly without heals or someone to pull the saurok off of them.

Also keep an eye out for the healing orbs that Ji spawns around himself. You can run through those to keep your own health up, and save your juice for the priest NPCs. You might lose one despite your best efforts, so if that happens, try and wait for a lull in the battle and then go back to the cliff from before. Hopefully by then the priest trapped under the debris has respawned and you can quickly free him and get back to your spot next to Ji.

For non-healers, I imagine you can still pull the saurok over to Ji and Jojo, but you'll probably have to replace them more frequently.

My son and I were leveling together so the two of us did this. I am glad I read comments here first, ye gods. The way we did it is we stood by the cliff where one of the healers spawns, and burned down any foe that attacked him. One of us would speak to him while the other aggroed the next foe who spawned. It took a long time (12-15 minutes?) and was kind of boring, but the green bar kept going up so we kept at it. If there was a lull, we would activate another nearby healer. It's all we did, and we didn't run around at all. Worked. Blizzard should rework that particular quest: it is due for an overhaul. It's nuts that all the other quests are so easy to do, and suddenly this stupid thing that is nearly impossible if you are soloing. Anybody who does it alone has my admiration and sympathy.

Since there would be a new leveling system, I hope this quest is upgraded to fix a solo player
I spent probably one hour getting healers, and trying to protect them while Shen-zin Su's health barely improved, and I honestly was going to give up but I was able to finish the quest because another player joined, and for some time there were two healers, afterward I helped him complete his quest so it was a good deal for both of us

I just Solo'd this with a Rogue in patch 8.3.0 and the technique i found that works best is constantly run around and collect healers(clear the wreckage or Talk to the ones with the chat bubble above them), DONT try to protect them. IF while you're running you get too many mobs on you kite them over to a group of the friendly NPC's and they'll kill them for you. I cleared the quest in about 10 minutes using this method.

If you get here and you cannot see a progress bar, abandon the quest and take it again.

It seems much easier now in Dragonflight, I had all healers up on my monk (cliche much?) and it took about 30 seconds to fill. After waiting over 30 mins with all healers up but no progress bar.
