I had to log out during the middle of this quest series and when I logged back in the bloodsail pirates were aggressive looking, but I could not attack them, could not speak to them and I had no way of continuing. So if you want to finish the quests in STV, don't log out halfway through. I still had the Piracy buff, so I assume this is a bug.

This quest chain is marked as Horde only, but it should show both factions. Did them today on my Worgen.

Did it on my Night Elf warrior today. They were yellow and non aggressive. Also, I found that my Thunder clap didn't affect them.

If you're doing this at the same time as someone else who isn't grouped with you and they finish before you do, your "Dead Eye" Drederick McGumm might disappear and go back to the ship, making it impossible to see the ninjas that you have to kill. If this does happen, you can use the flare gun in your inventory to re-summon him.

I discovered 2 different ways to approach this quest:

1. Run around the island trying to find a path up the hill in the centre. Regularly think you've found the path up with that one final jump up only to fall on your arse, get up and continue running around searching.
I went counter-clockwise.

2. Read the flipping quest properly, fire the flare gun you've been given so "Dead-Eye" appears then just run around killing the ninjas that have miraculously appeared.

Option 2 worked best for me. Eventually.

I was able to summon "Dead-Eye" Drederick McGumm twice by clicking the flare in rapid succession. Not sure if it has any effect on the quest but ninjas were in quite abundance.

For this quest you have to be in the Bloodsail Buccaneer Spying questline otherwise the questgiver is hostile.

You can start the questline with The Bloodsail Buccaneers, it enables after the last quest in the line.

On the PTR, if you have done this quest and you are a mail-wearer, you are being given One-Eye Patch as part of your transmog list. As I am unable to *re*-complete this quest at the moment, I don't know if the mail eyepatch is being given only retroactively, or if it is a quest reward now as well, as with some other appearances.

If you are as dumb as me and cant kill any of the ninjas - just use single target spells. No AOE. That should work.

Since patch 7.0.3, all the quest rewards are put directly into your transmog collection.
This was done to reduce the number of people opening support tickets requesting vendored or lost unique rewards from these kind of quests.

In addition to the other rewards offered, if you are a mail-wearer and do this quest, you will be given One-Eye Patch for transmog.

January 19, 2017: I am currently aiming to complete The Loremaster on my Paladin. When I accepted the quest, it was a bit buggy. I arrived on Jaguero Isle only to have no results when using the flare to see the ninjas. I abandoned the quest multiple times. When I abandoned the last time, I went back to the ship where I picked up the quest originally, relogged, accepted it, used flare with success. Note: when you do abandon, the npc may continue following you - even if you accept the quest, it may be buggy.

Since the introduction of scaling in the last patch, I don't think these mobs have been reduced quite enough. They take almost twice as long to kill as everything else I've been fighting at my level, and they hit a lot harder. :(

As a brewmaster monk these were incredibly hard to kill... Keg smash did NO damage to them (feels buggy) nor applied the debuff for my breath of fire. URG

As a few previous comments mentioned, the scaling of this quest is still not nearly where it should be. It was difficult to even 1-1 these mobs, everything was hitting extremely hard. But, most frustratingly anything that had an aoe component was not hitting them AT ALL. Did this on a demon hunter which included blade dance, immolation aura, eye beam, chaos nova, etc.

November 2023 and these ninjas still hit like a ton of bricks. xD I only wanted to add that it would help if McGumm would actually *help* in these fights instead of just following you around looking innocent.

Just did the quest as fury warr and AoE doesn't work when attacking multiple ninjas. Bladestorm/Whirlwind did no damage to them, but did damage to the stalkers that were around..

Description

I don't wear this patch because of any lost eye. I wear it because this OTHER eye is so strong, the normal one was just weighin' it down.

This eye's good for seein' all kinds of things, like those masked hooligans that follow us around. Fleet Master says that they've been spotted over on Jaguero Isle. Once you get there, fire this flare gun, and I'll help you spot 'em.
