It takes approximately one minute to charge to full and spawns ~8 adds at over the course of the minute.
If you aren't a class that can heal or kite a group of mobs, then you might find some difficulty doing this solo.

Did it as a warrior, wasnt too bad, the ward can tank some of the mobs while you single kill them too. all told I saw about 9 mobs spaced out over a minute

If you are a healing class you can heal the destructive ward. if you have an aggro drop just heal the ward, and keep them off you. as soon as it is active it destroys them all.

Just did it as a lvl 73 Moonkin, and is way easy. Didn't even have to heal or antything.

When I did this quest there were far greater than 9 adds for some reason and I was easily over run. When I did it a second time there were only a few adds and it was completed easily. So if this doesn't go well for you the first time, the second might be much easier.

Don't stand to close a horde's if you are alliance or an allianse's ward if you are horde ward. When the other player complete you will loos 9k hp.

Exactly when I placed the ward someone knocked at the door. When I was finished at the door, the quest was complete...

you can heal the wand with heals, not bandages tho.

Maybe you guys are on a different quest than I am, but a solo skeleton took it down to near half health before anything else spawned. It's still easily soloable, though.

You dont need to heal the stone. I did it with a 74 warrior. I killed the first two spawns and then after that, maybe killed one or two more. the stone last the whole time then if you time it right you can get one last hit on all the mobs n when the stone charges it killes them all n you can loot the bodies

You don't appear to be able to heal the stone anymore. Targeting it and casting a heal with my Shaman only healed me.

It also only has around 14.4k health which means you actually have to protect it.

I tried this 4 times as a priest, and died every time to a horde of skeletons, spawning way faster than I could kill them. Even a passing Snowfall Elk agroed the stone, and I can confirm it can no longer be healed. The only good thing is that the skeletons count towards No One To Save You.

I think there's a bug in this quest. After attempting this for the 5th time I didn't die, but all the mobs were hit and the ward disappeared. I happened to glance at my chat log and noticed that after it says, "The Destructive Ward gains in power!" twice, it also said "The Destructive Ward is fully charged!" and then said it had been destroyed and I received no credit for the quest. It looks as though you need to hang around for a bit and protect it even after it's fully charged.

Edited to add: Completed this on my 6th attempt, by hanging back and "aggro ping-ponging" mobs back and forth from the ward with fireball and arcane blast. Once the Destructive Ward is fully charged it hits all mobs around it twice before killing them all. I assume this also has to happen in addition to it being fully charged in order for you to receive credit.

Soloed as a 72 Arcane Mage but it took me quite a few failures to figure out what I was doing wrong.

Kite. The. Mobs.

Start out at a distance. Place the ward, run to your maximum range, and take on one mob at a time, using Slow if you're Arcane, or Frostbolt if your frost. I found the easiest spot to attempt this without getting adds was to run east of where you have to place the ward.

I had some trouble completing this on my lvl72 rogue. Here are some tips I figured out:

Make sure you pull the guys away from the Destructive Ward. They're buffed with Smoldering Bones which will periodically tick the ward down.
Let one of the adds beat on the Ward while you finish off an existing add. Don't pick up more than one.
If you're about to die, let all adds beat on the Ward. The charging is quite quick and the Ward has a lot of life. I had 5% life and I let 4 adds beat on the Ward and still completed the quest. You really only need to kill the first three adds.

I tried this 5 times with my lvl 74 Shaman. Used a few different totems with no luck. First 2 times I stayed with the ward and was overrun. We both died. Last 3 times I placed the ward then ran off to kiting distance. Drew 1-2 at a time but the ward still died, the worst was when only one mob was on it and it died just before my lightning bolt struck the mob. Waste of time so far. I'll try again when I hit 75.

As a few people have already mentioned, stand away from the ward and pull the mobs. Just completed this as a 75 shadow priest. I failed the first two times by standing next to the ward.

This quest is darn near impossible. Solo'd as Lvl 74 Shadow Priest with 6 unsuccessful tries. Tried twice as Holy (worse). Not even Shackle Undead could save me. I guess I'll try it when I'm 75.

At the beginning of the road that leads to the cave(Away from the cave), use the quest item, and kill the mobs that spawn.

Pull them away from the ward. Their aoe buff will kill it.

Getting away from the ward and agro the attackers to yourself saves the ward. Easy peasy once I drew them away from the ward.

Place a Destructive Ward at the end of the path leading out of Obsidian Dragonshrine, where the road starts to give way to snow. Protect the ward until it is fully charged, then return to Serinar.

Description

They're drawing power from the bones of my dead brothers...

I have no love for the cult, but I'm baffled by their audacity. There will be no mercy shown for them... not that I ever would have anyway.

Ensure that they have no place to flee when the slaughter starts. Place a destructive ward at the end of the path leading out of the shrine... where the road starts to give way to snow. Defend it until it is fully charged.
