That's because in-game the system lists how much the entire series would be worth, not the individual achievement. So the 35 you're seeing is the 25 from this and 10 from "Medium Rare" before this. The in-game system does this because it wraps all the lower achievements in a series inside the highest one you've achieved to save space.

Insane quest. It's hard enough to find one rare for 'Medium Rare' when you're looking for it (well... I was lucky enough to find Kraator in the second zone I was rare searching in, though I had the help of WoWHead's maps); all of them are going to be a nightmare. I can't see anyone getting this until Wrath's well and truly out, and people are mainly only in Outland to level.

Edit (2009-03-16): Finally finished this achievement. I used my above macro the entire time. The only mob that doesn't target is Fulgorge in Hellfire, as he burrows underground. I'll leave it in there for corpse targetting anyway.

Keep in mind that this will be a whole lot easier when everyone moves to Northrend and Outland will become deserted. Still hard, just not as nigh-impossible like it is right now.

Completed this 3 hours ago. Took 6 days of nonstop early morning searches.

Estimated playtime spent is about a day. Glad I'm on a low pop server.

Time to adjust my sleep schedule back to normal.....

Oh, just some hints to make this easier, whenever you find a rare spawn, grab as much guildies/friends as you can as this can be done in a raid. The more people you drag down, the easier it is to tag along for others' kills.

So heres a link to a map i made up that has all the locations of the outland rares, i found it to be useful while rare farming. Note that the locations are just a guide.

Not spectacular or anything, but should allow you to cut some major areas out of your search, and to look for more than one rare at a time, when combined with the above macro posted by Josh.

From a glance, the map seems to be missing Mekthorg the Wild's pathing at Hellfire Citadel, and Coilfang Emissary in Zangarmarsh.

Personally, I use this search list and just open up the maps to the mobs in the area I am currently at. Gives a more detailed location on where they spawn and patrol, but after a few sweeps, you should have it in your head.

EDIT:
Took me a casual 8 - 9 days to complete on a low populated server, should be quicker for any "hardcore gamer". Highly populated servers may take longer to complete since there will be more people attempting this achievement and some of the Rares have a ridiculously long spawn time.

I was just fighting up in northern Zangarmarsh for a quest and this Horde was watching me (no clue why) and suddenly that "Bog Lurker" came up to me, it was actually pretty easy even though I was 2 levels under monsters in that area. I guess, if you take your time leveling there, you'll find them all? xP

been trying to get him for the last 2 weeks, found him dead by NPCs once
should have known one would be a *!@#block
basically, you have about 10mins to kill this guy after he spawns, then the NPCs will kill him
personally i dont see getting him to complete this achievement, without camping him 24hrs, or getting extremly lucky

Really unfortunate these kills weren't "remembered" before the achievement came out. I'd need maybe 1-2 more. Apparently playing on one of the lowest pop. servers pays off (sometimes..).

The mobs you will have the most trouble locating are the ones that are either part of the regular quest sequence of the Death Knight Army or the ones in locations that are constantly swarmed by leveling bots:

- Mekthorg the Wild in Hellfire
- Coilfang Emmissary in Zangarmarsh
- Voidhunter Yar in Nagrand
- Doomsayer Jurim in Terokkar
- Okrek in Terokkar
- Crippler in Terokkar

Ok I'm almost done with this achievement. Here are my little tips and tricks how I did it.

1. Copy/paste macro above
2. If you are casual take your time. There is no rush. There are other achievements you can do at the same time (fishing and cooking daylies).
3. One or two areas at the time. It takes only 5-6 mins to fly through one area possible spawn spots. It's perfect time to do it while you are drinking your morning coffee, waiting for raid invites or LFG que.
4. Off-peak hours give better chances to find them. I found more than half of my rares in early mornings.
5. Keep eye on area channels. Sometimes you might get some info from there. If someone lets others know that he/she just killed one remember the time. I got my Morcrush kill like that.

When using the /tar macro it's important to realize when looking for Fulgorge that it won't target him, since he travels underground. (I can confirm this because I passed right over him spamming the macro.) Just look for a huge digging trail coming out of the ground that's way bigger than normal and it's him.

I'm 2 mobs away from this achievement, and the best advice I can give is not to assume that any one person posting coords is an absolute guarantee you'll find the mob there ever. In fact, I've found rare mobs in places no one ever reported seeing them in. But I see them in that unreported spot repeatedly afterwards, either dead or alive. Best guess is that each server has a 'preferred route' that the mob likes to pat on. So, if you see them there dead a lot, assume that when you find them it will most likely be in that spot or near it as well. It helps narrow things down!

Just finished this today, the hardest one was definitely Fulgorge.

If you plan on starting this achievement with none of them, I would prioritize him. The combination of being underground (untargetable with the macro) and in Hellfire (extremely populated, even more so than some of the Northrend zones) makes him very difficult to find.

I offered 500g + his loot over the course of 4 days in general for people in case somebody found it before me, but nobody ever did. I finally ended up finding him at his southern spawn location near the goblin questgivers.

Outside of him, Doomsayer Jurim is difficult because he can potentially walk into guards and be killed.

The others weren't too difficult to find, I found about half early morning (2-3 ish server time), and the rest randomly throughout the day.

I don't believe any of them share spawns, I was able to find a few in the same zone within 5 minutes of each other.

All in all, this was a fun achievement to finish. Being able to get Fulgorge on my own makes me happy knowing I didn't need anybody's help along the way.

Just finiched this achivement after about a week 24/7 on Magtheridon EU.

Hard parts :

Fulgorge : 7 hours camping then he spawned.
Marticar : 14 hours camping then spawned.

I would rank this achivement highest on my list so far in wotlk.
Now I am going to start Frostbitten.

When I first decided to start this achievement, getting Medium Rare first, I actually got my first kill on Doomsayer Jurim. Judging by where I killed him I caught him about 30 seconds after he spawned.

Flying around with that macro bound makes this achievement somewhat easy, the hard part of it is the RNG of the mob being up.

Got 19/20 Rares on my Paladin, took about 3-5 hours in total farming over a month
Currently spent 8 days checking every 15-30 mins for Vorakem Doomsayer in Hellfire, he has been by far the most difficult to find for me.

NPCScan tracks seldom-seen rare mobs by proximity alone, making the old “/targetexact …” macros obsolete. It has the same range as those targeting macros, but you won't have to mash any buttons. Just go about your business and let _NPCScan alert you when it finds something.

I got two of these mobs while levelling (Bog Lurker and Hemathion), then left the achievement for a long time. Decided to start grinding it last week. Within a day I'd succeeded at getting 12 more - Nagrand, Blade's Edge and Netherstorm were the easiest to complete.

I found the maps posted here are only partially useful - it's much more helpful to get an idea of what kind of mobs the rares spawn amongst, and look for them in similar areas within the zone. For example, Collidus in Shadowmoon hangs out with the nether rays and air elementals along the edges of the zone, while Speaker Mar'grom hangs out in ogre camps in Blade's Edge. The macro above is very good, just keep removing the ones you've killed from it so you don't get excited over nothing if you spot them again.. :)

Fulgorge wasn't targetable, but you really can't miss his HUGE red boulders when you do spot him. Just be patient.

Still missing ~~Kraator~~, Crippler, Marticar and Mekthorg the Wild. ~~I am having trouble finding out exactly where Kraator spawns, although from the maps he seems to be tied to felboar areas~~. Kraator I found wandering out of the giant field behind Eclipse Point.

for example i just set out fropped thorns (10 minute buff) and and had killed all of the rares in terrokar within 5 minutes

update killed my first rare in hellfire and i am enroute to kill the orc rare now.

Cumulative achievements show the accumulated value you would get when you complete the current one. Look at the Level 10, 20...80 as another example. So it's only a gain of 25, as Medium + Bloody is worth 35 overall.

Pretty much easy to find by just doing a loop around Outland every few hours. I play on a low-pop server and it seemed 2-4 of these were always up during a loop. I'd heard things such as "Only 2 can be up at any time, only one in a zone". Not true. However, I do believe that it's true that about 4 can be up in the world and by killing them you trigger others to spawn.

In one loop I killed Coilfang Emissary, Morcrush, Collidus the Warp-Watcher, and Kraator. Two hours later I hopped back on and found Fulgorge, Bog Lurker, Ever-Core the Punisher, and Chief Engineer Lorthander. Then 1 1/2 hours later I found Okrek and Nuramoc on another loop. The next day I found Crippler, Marticar, Mekthorg and Voidhunter Yar. Four hours later I went around, found Nuramoc again, Ever-Core, Chief Engineer, Okrek, and checked back at the end of my loop and Goretooth had spawned.

The hardest ones to find were Vorakem Doomspeaker (spawns in a high-traffic DK leveling zone). I managed to find around at the Legion Front a little before 11pm. The next morning I started the search for Doomsayer Jurim, figuring I'd need to camp him. I camped for a bit and then did a loop around the forest to see if any of the others were up. Sure enough Crippler was and to test my theory, I killed him. I went back to look for the Doomsayer and sure enough, there he was walking down the road (my macro had a /facepalm mispelling and didn't hit but I recognized the tall Draenei, looks like a road vendor).

Also, I found Chief Engineer inside Manaforge Duro and again INSIDE the Trelleum mine. Macro hits outside, just don't get frustrated when you can't find immediately. Marticar, my macro hit and he seriously seemed to phase for about 3 minutes before I found him again! Fulgorge just look for the HUGE rumbling of red rocks someplace where the Crust Burster rocks should be sand-colored. Also, Okrek can be in a tree-hut and when the macro hits he looks just like the other birds and can take a second to locate.

Sorry, I don't run coords but Wowhead was perfect with all the location. Happy hunting!

Been working at this for the last couple of weeks and have two left (Vorakem Doomspeaker and Marticar). I read in a few places that the rare mobs in Outland spawn at the top of the hour, and this seems to be working for me. I had 7 left up for ages until 2 days ago when I tried to find more information on spawn times. Using this info lead me to Voidhunter Yar just after 1pm server two days ago, as well as Crippler/Goretooth/Ambassador Jerrikar between 9-9:10pm, and Collidus The Warp Watcher at 10:09pm last night. Checks at 7 and 8pm two days ago found nothing/Collidus was not up at 9pm last night. Goretooth was also right beside (a very active) Halaa so I doubt he had been up for more than a minute or two.

I can't seem to re-find the specific page I was looking for that explained it, but it had to do with spawn timers and not specific spawn times. If you kill an 8 hour mob at, say, 20 after the hour, it will not spawn again in exactly 8 hours. But at the top of the next hour, the server will do a mini refresh and realize the mob is no longer on a cooldown, and spawn it.

Took me about a week on Saurfang.

Reasonably new realm so SMV,Netherstorm were easy as the places are deserted because at 68 people just dash to Northrend.

Took about a week in all, with the 3 in HP being my last ones, this place is full of players. This is doing 3-4 full runs of Outland every day, cutting it down over time according to rares found.

I liked this achievement, it became an addiction tbh. The rewards are not great, the shards sell easily on AH though.

I'm hoping they make a 'meta' of all the rares in the game, 'Bounty Hunter' seems an appropriate title. It would definitely bring more 80's back to the 'Old World'.

i suggest getting WoWmatrix and getting the add-ons npc-scan and rare spawn overlay then if you are level 77+ and have cold weather flight you can just fly over their patrol paths and if they are there then the npc scanner will find the one you are looking for and it will notify you i have found this very useful (but don't be stupid like me and forget to enable the scanner and fly over all the paths thinking it's on)

The macro script mentioned towards the top of the comments works incredibly well. If you want to add a little extra you can target and add an attack. If you're flying this will dismount you so be sure to fly somewhat low. The way I approached this achievement was by zone. For example I used this one for the Shadowmoon area. Found all three in less than 30 minutes...

I am currently working towards this achievement and I've found that the addon _NPCscan from Curse.com is amazing! If a rare spawn that is part of either achievement (so only Outlands and Northrend) is nearby an alarm sounds and a small figure of the elite and its name pops up. I highly recommend this addon to anyone trying to get this achievement!

Hi

Firstly, and judging by the fact that at 1.33 PM on my server (Anachronos) I saw Doosayer Jurim being killed, and therefore went back the following day and he spawned at exactly the same time as his death, it would be fair to say that (barring any bugs) each of these rares is on an exact 24hr respawn timer from the time of their death. (I honestly can't see Blizz making separate timers for each rare).

Which in effect, could leave them all up and running if they aren't downed by anyone. And this method also gives each player the fairest chance of a kill, since realistically after each kill (unless someone has camped at the respawn spot) the clock will have advanced by either a few mins, hours etc. So that whether you are an early or a late player, you will at some point have the chance to see and kill all of these.

Very early kills (early hours of the morning) are simply coicidence and can be explained by the fact that in the evenings/night, most people tend to raid or do instances and if the mob spawned in the evening, there is therefore every chance it will still be there come the following morning. (Especially in Outlands)

It also must be noted that if you happen to be at its respawn spot, (like i was for Doomsayer Jurim AND Chief Engineer Lorthander) when it respawns, that NPCSCan will NOT give you a warning.

Therefore it would seem to me that the best chance you have to get any of these, is to make sure you do its patrol route at the same time every day. Or even more than once a day. And that if you happen to come across a body, make sure you start flying its route just before the same time the following day.

I can't even begin to recommend _NPCScan and it's companion add-on, _NPCScan.Overlay.

Like what has been said before, _NPCScan takes the macro-mashing out of rare mob hunting. Overlay give you nice color-coded spawn areas on all your maps, so that you can see exactly where to fly around looking for these rare mobs for this achievement.

In literally an hour, I got Ambassador Jerrikar, Bog Lurker, Collidus the Warp-Watcher, Goretooth, Marticar, Morcrush, Nuramoc, Okrek, and Voidhunter Yar.

Granted, Outlands is easier now that there's not as many people bouncing around, but still…

This is not accurate and there are problems with the rationale in your post.

5 points.

1, I came across Okrek having been killed by someone else. Roughly 5-6 hours later he was back up at another spawn point.

2, Your theory of exact 24 hour spawns at the same location falls apart when you factor in that just about all of these rares have several different spawn locations. If they kept respawning at the same spot every 24 hours, why would they have several different spots.

3, Blizzard does take the time and effort to put in different timers for different mobs and, more importantly, to make them randomized. This is done to keep people from having a monopoly on the spawns by being able to distill their spawn times down to an exact science. Given that they have thrown unique dialogue and loot onto these mobs, going the extra step to create varying spawn timers for these mobs isn't a huge stretch.

4, Assuming that you were back at the same spawn point at the exact time you were at the preceding day, there is no way for you to know that the mob you personally witnessed at the exact same time did not spawn again between the time you had killed it the first time and found it the second time. For all you know, he could have been popping up every 3, 6, 9, 12 (or whatever) hours after the first kill.

5, Finding rares during non-peak hours isn't a coincidence, it's maximizing your odds. The less people there are online to stumble across a rare and kill it, the greater the chance you have of finding it. Put it another way, if you were the only person in Zangarmarsh looking for rares, you'd have a very good chance at getting any that are up. If there were 10 people in Zangarmarsh questing, looking for rares, etc. your chances decrease.

I only wrote all this because this achievement can be difficult enough as it is and I don't think people should feel they have to camp a spawn point, and that rares are absolutely not on 24 hour set respawn timers. For some rares this might be a smart strategy (specifically, rares in HFP, Zangar, Terokkar (Doomsayer especially, as he can die to Shatt guards!) and Nagrand, as those are still heavily utilized zones by folks who are levelling up, but folks can make better use of their time by going through Netherstorm/BEM/etc and checking each spawn point and then moving on. :)

Anyone who's done the Higher Learning quest in Dalaran should be familiar with Blizzard's rare spawn mechanic. It comes down to: an activated spawn cycle, (the Dalaran book cycle is 3 hours) which on server up, either generates the mob or a placeholder "or" counts down a cycle, which has an increasing chance to generate the spawn or placeholder after each cycle completes. If the mob or the placeholder spawns, the generation of that spawn pauses untill the mob is cleared, at which the timer begins from that point. To lend credit to this, I've had most luck on 4 and 6 hour intervals within 36 hours of every server restart, after that it can vary, (though high traffic spawns will likely not vary by much for obvious reasons.)

I would just like to remind everyone of the importance of clearing your cache, if you're using addons like SilverDragon or NCPScan. I'd found Mekthorg the Wild dead once but never cleared my cache. Flew over him several times before I used /tar Mek on a whim and he popped up.

Wonder how many times I've missed Grocklar, High Thane Jorfus and Bog Lurker because of that. :(

Are 2 addons that make this 1000 times easier then without. One sends drums/ringing when u spot the rare you are looking for and a portrait shows up on yr screen, click it and u target the mob.

The other addon shows each mobs name in a color and shows both on map and minimap where they roam, very handy indeed.

Rares in starter areas were ofc the ones I had most problems with, and have yet to get Bog Lurker and Nuramoc.

I know a team of 3 have been in each of the 3 spawn points of Bog Lurker since server restart last 3 days, they have yet to spot him. This is a bit odd.

Nuramoc is tameable, so many BM hunters are after him.

Whoever downrated the post about clearing yr cache is a fool you have to do this if your settings are not so that it ignores Nuramoc tamed mobs, or else it will not show where he roams nor tick off with drums/bells and the portrait on yr screen.

By far, this achievement is a lot easier then Frostbitten in Northrend, see very few ppl in Outland nowadays, rares are there for you to slay

The most useful piece of advice I've come across, aside from getting NPCscan and NPCoverlay, is to look for most mobs at or just after the hour. Although certain mobs do not spawn right on the hour (Mekthorg the wild, doomsayer jurim, and fulgorge that I know of), the majority of these mobs only spawn on the hour. I was already 13/20 when I finally found this advice, and proceeded to find Hemathion on the next hour (just after 8), and Ambassador Jerrikar on the next (just after 9). This should make sense to anyone who's found 3-4 mobs all right after one another and other times there's not a single one to be found.

Edit: I found fulgorge at 10:25, after having searched for him at 10:05. Didn't find any of my remaining 4 at 11 (Okrek, mekthorg, doomspeaker, marticar), but then at 12:03 I found Okrek and happened to pass by doomsayer jurim at 12:04 while going to hellfire. Only 2 more to go and then I get to camp Mekthorg >.>.

Edit 2: Doomspeaker down at 2:01, was not up at the same location at 1:55.

I've been doing this achievement for 6 days now. Started without any addon or other help.
It seems impossible without help so i installed _NPCScan and _NPCOverlay which made it a LOT! easier. These addons work like a charm. As well I have to say that i play on a very crowded server. Anyone else is probably faster ;(((( I ended up at one remaining raremob after those six days. (Vorakem Doomspeaker ;) hoping to finish it today :D

I have about half these done (the first half I was finding 3/day inside a single circuit) - since these early wins, I've been really struggling.

So last night 6 - 6.5 hours after server restart, I did some circuits, none of my missing mobs had spawned. Maybe this will help people (like me) thinking there's an influx of rares at certain points.

I'm not sure what the rarespawn "cap" is for outlands (if there is one at all), but picking a time of day when your server has been very quiet for hours is definitely the way to go. I did a sweep early saturday morning server-time on my server (high-pop) and picked up eleven of these in less than an hour, despite not even checking some locs that I already had. -Very- easily done if you can find the right time of day, and bring npcscan with you :)

I got this a while back and never see anyone describe the method me and my group used. What we did was to get a group of people and assign them a zone/s. We knew the paths they took and where to look.

First thing we noted was there was always at least 1 rare up. With 5-10 people looking if there is one up you will find it, and it would only take 5-20 minutes to find one when everyone was in their zone. When someone found it they would tag it, and wait for the whole group to show up to get credit, then we killed it. Afterward we would return to our assigned zones and look again, and sure enough it didn't take more then 20 minutes to find one, sometimes as few as 5 minutes.

Second thing we noted was the same rare would never spawn twice in a row.

Third was rares could spawn back to back in the same zone, just never the same one we killed (hence some kills would only take us 5 minutes).

We did this over a couple days for 2 hours or so each. Everyone in the group got the achievement in this time frame except 2 or 3 people who missed a day. Things we didn't determine was if you have to kill a full cycle of rares in order for the same ones to re-spawn or not cause we didn't want to nor did we need to spend that long to test everything out.

So get a group, assign them an area, and look around. Tag it when you see it, but let it live till everyone shows up for credit. Rinse and repeat. Enjoy your bloody rare achievement.

P.S. I never tested this with Frostbitten, but I have a guild buddy that got it by himself and he said he noticed similarities in the spawn patters.

For those using NPC, make sure it's activated because sometimes you may have accidentally disabled it by clicking on the map, then enabled it again but for some reason it didn't work (trust me it happens). So keep an eye for the mobs, not just the map and run some ''tests'' on yourself to see if NPC's working.

Blue mobs as colored by NPC are the hardest to be found while red's spawn more frequently than greens and blues.Either way it's not going to be easy.Just keep looking on different days and you'll eventually find them all.

The only exception I know of is that Time-Lost Proto Drake and Vyragosa share a spawn.

In fact I would go so far as to say that these days it is quite likely you will find a few rare spawns up simultaneously, especially if you are looking in the early hours of the morning. This is because the mobs are mostly being killed by people specifically looking for them rather than people who happen to be in the zone (Northrend and Outland now being largely unpopulated by players).

So what tends to happen is that a rare will spawn, and could very easily remain unharmed for a few hours - long enough for the other rares in the zone to also spawn. And they would likely stay alive until someone hunting for the achievement does a sweep and kills all of them.

Either I was very lucky, or this is fairly easy as of 4.1 (or possibly both). I suspect it is just easy because, with heirloom gear, and guild bonuses, people aren't really spending much time in Outlands these days. So, since no one is around I got all of these really quickly, sometimes as many as 5 in one tour of Outland.

Basically, when I was incredabored, I would just go to outland and do some fly-bys with NPCscan, and the NPCscan map overlay. I never camped, and I always found at least one rare on my tours. With this strategy, I got this within a 3 weeks of starting to do this, and I don't think I did more than 5 tours in total, or spent more than a few hours on this.

I also found I Bro'Gaz the Clanless twice. He seems to be the only outland rare-spawn that was excluded from this achiev ... though I don't know why.

If you get really bored of flying around all the zones like i did, spice it up by zooming your camera all the way in and pretending you can fly dodging buildings and the like!

If you have Curse Client there is an addon called NPCScan (if you get it download NPCScan then NPCScan.Overlay) this helps you with this. On your map and Mini-map if will show the path each rare has, and it will show if if you find it so dont bother looking for it just run across the path. If you come within 300yards of it your mini-map will flash, a sound will be made, an Icon will apear at the bottom of your screen (if you click the icon it will target it, and it also marks it with a triangle. This addon will also tell you if it killed or not (catched) if you Type "/NPCScan" I recommend this for everyone.

my best advice for this is to:

get NPCscan, NPCscan overlay, and do this in the morning (maybe on a weekend morning, it's Saturday morning for me).

It is 10:58 EST (7:58AM PST) and I am wrapping up my outland hunting for the day. Up untill just now, I've gotten 8 consecutive kills (note: 2 were missing/not spawned).

Make sure to go slow if you have 280/310! It takes a sec for enemies to spawn. don't just fly through, stop every few seconds (make sure you can see other enemies behind and in front of you).

Aforementioned earlier by a previous poster you can use a batch file to automate the deletion process of the creaturecache.wdb for _NPCscan. To do this takes a little PC savy.

To start open Notepad and click File then Save As
In the File name box type: wow.bat
and select your desktop for location to save the file, and click Save
Once this is done copy and paste the following lines into notepad then click Save

@ECHO OFF
REM The next line deletes the creature cache
PAUSE
DEL "C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\Cache\WDB\enUS\creaturecache.wdb"
REM The next line will start World of Warcraft

@ECHO OFF prevents the batch file from looping

CALL contacts and opens an exsisting program or file.
EXIT once the batch has confirmation the file has opened it will close the batch file window.

You can place this batch file anywhere, right click the Wow.bat file select "Send To" create a link on desktop, then right click the link on your desktop select properties select the Shortcut Tab in Win7, at the bottom click "Change Icon..." and select a icon to replace the drab batch file one.

It helps if you're not on high/full populated server. I'm on medium and in one run I found 10 rares, no joke.

Basically I killed a few when I was doing random stuff in Outlands and in my first run today I have found at least 10 rares and I only need 2 for the achievement - one in Hellfire and one in Zangarmarsh.

Not mentioned before, so some advice on getting this achievement on a low level. I duel-screened my main and an alt (two accounts). I began this thinking both toons needed to be in kill range - that's true for rolling on loot - but It is sufficient for the low level alt to be in party and in the zone to get the credit for the kill. So I just go to the nearest flight point before the main engages.

-BUT-

I just killed Kraator (18th/20 rares) and my alt didnt get the credit. We were not in raid. The only difference was Kraator was the one rare my main already had. So if I find him again I'll get my alt into kill range and even try and tag it first to be sure. Something dodgy about what triggers a kill credit here.

People have got to stop posting useless information that extends the page.

The respawn timers are about 24 hours, basically 1 day. So if you don't see any of the NPCs, just save yourself time and wait the next day.

The way I tackled this achievement was casually at first, with the aid of NPC scan. This achievement really requires NPC scan unless you have an eagle eye.

So firstly, I casually found them whilst questing with NPC scan, and killed them of course, not worrying to specifically look for any until I was about 4 or 5 NPCs left for the achievement.

Then I flew over their spawn points whenever in Outland (if you are rep grinding or doing profession dailies this is a good time to do it) and that tackled the last few, until I had two left.

For these two, Kraator and Speaker Mar'grom, flying over their spawn points wasn't enough, so I waited til after the server reset, flew over their spawn sites, and voila! Bloody Rare!

Hope this helps some people getting this worthwile 35 pointer!

There is no harm in shortening up the names a bit. Someone else suggested using the numeric values to shorten the character count even further, but I like to be able to recognize the names of each, in my macro, without having to look up the numbers. Especially if your going to delete each rare's line, as you kill them. Personally; I find it faster to type "/M" and glance at my macro, to see which rare's remain to be tracked down and killed, than to navigate the Achievements Panel.

The "/cleartarget " lines are there to help ensure the macro function smoothly and to keep it from getting stuck on the rare you just killed, when looking for another rare that might have spawned nearby. I don't recall specifically, but I thought there were a few that could spawn fairly close to each other.

Just got this achievement, most of them I got either at random or from the start of a server restart, however the last few (Morcrush and Crippler) were very annoying, so with the shared achievements in patch 5.0.4 I was able to place characters all over the spawn sites and quickly log into them to check the sites.

The last one, Crippler caused me some problems, I spent a good day tracking his spawn sites with NPC Scan/Overlay to no luck on my server, and with cross realm zones it was getting very crowded. However I logged on to another character on another server and found him straight away and managed to get the achievement.

As of completion of scheduled maintenance on Halloween 2012, it appears this and Frostbitten have gone account wide. This was not announced, but rather somewhat sneaked into the game. As of right now, none of my progress is showing on either achievement and I was 3 away on both. I am not submitting a ticket until I log into all toons and see if it updates. I'll post another comment to let anyone know who's wondering as I am. Cheers.

This and Frostbitten are now ticking any rare found on any alt. Every one of your characters can still complete Medium Rare and Northern Exposure regardless whether you already have Bloody Rare and Frostbitten or not.

Having transferred to a highly populated realm end-Cata (from Kor'gall to Frostmane EU Ally) I tend to notice doing a full run on my main across both continents yields me one rare at most. If I take my last 85 alt still on Kor'gall, I usually run into 2+. If you don't mind abusing the account-wide achievement system, you're best of doing this achievement and Frostbitten on a un- or low populated realm.

The MoP equivalent is not (yet) account-wide, but the MoP rare system is very different from Outland and Northrend: there are more (so farmers are more occupied killing them rather than flying ahead of you) but more importantly, most spawn times are much lower than the old-school rare farming.

Definitely the hardest out of the three rare-kill achievements.

Why?

- These rares have slooooow respawn timers
- They have multiple spawn points
- They pat (NPCScan is NEEDED)
- Even though you may be on a low realm and they appear in low level zones, the traffic area which they spawn and pat is still high for levellers.

My tip for anyone attempting this is to be online during low-pop times.
I luckily play on a US server and I am online while the players are asleep

Try and get on after a server restart

IMPORTANT!

- If you are used to seeing the skulls on the map for rares, like they appear in Pandaria, they will not show on the map for this one! This is why NPCScan is, IMO, essential. You set up your way points with TomTom and NPCScan will alert you if one shows up, without you having to stop and look around yourself.

Vorakem was the last one I needed for the Bloody Rare achievement.
Took me a couple of days of logging in early, the best time is between 5-8am server time.

oQueue and NPCscan really helps here, I just flew back and forth between spawn locations on my paladin, if you have an alt or main with mount speed boost then that can speed things up.

My method was to check all spawn points on my own battlegroup CRZ, then use oQueue to check other battlegroups for a spawn, unfortunately this involves joining random oQueue premades and ditching the group after you've checked their spawn locations. (Sorry to those poor souls that I midly inconvenienced)

This saves you requiring dedicated friends on each battlegroup also being at any given time you want to check their spawns, ain't nobody got time fo dat.

For those having problems to find any of the rares; This might be because of issues with connected realms.

While on a flightpath, mobs are triggered by NPC scan but as soon as you land and visit the spot, it's gone because of phasing. For me this happened two years ago when Blizzard started to connect realms.

I,m having quite a trouble with some kind of phase in shadowmoon valley, some places seem empty, and i know they´re not. I´ve tried using the special goggles, but they don´t help. My other charaters haven´t this problem, but i want the achievement with this specific one. Can anybody give a clue of what to do?, haven´t found lost quests either, they are all completed

For anyone doing the achieve with NPC scan now: it no longer auto-targets pre-MOP (possibly pre-Draenor?) mobs, due to the vignetting of rares. The overlay function still helps but I recommend using one of the macros provided on this page.

Hunters: rejoice! At the moment, taming a pet counts toward your achievement progress. So no more will you need to kill poor Goretooth and Nuramoc if you prefer them in your stables.

You may like to combine your Frostbitten and Bloody Rare macros.

The Rare Love AddOn over at Curse and WoW Interface does this for you.

In fact, it combines these and a whole lot more. All in one convenient macro.

Most importantly, it runs lean and clean. Little cpu/fps impact and a tiny memory footprint.

My question is should these rares always be up (unless naturally someone has just killed them). I've searched netherstorm for half an hour now on all known coord's using npcscan/overlay, and nada. Also some of the dots vanish when I visit the spot (and I do wait and not fly through at 310), and some don't. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks,

Just got this yesterday after a couple of months. I made macros for each zone that targeted all of the rares so I only had to spam one key while flying around. I use SilverDragon for all of the spawn points, as well as NPCScan. Definitely fly around the areas around and between the spawn points, I've found a number of rares outside of the areas marked on the map. Crippler was the last one I found, in the middle of Auchindoun.

Started farming this about 2-3 weeks ago, and just achieved it today! Got zygor guide (and the map overviews here on this site) to help me locate them.

SO it's absolutely doable! I don't know wether or not I've been extremely lucky, or is just is this "easy" now-a-days.

Been looking on different times each day. Bog lurker was the last one I needed, and it took me 3 days before I had him :)

The addition of Chromie Time levelling makes this and Frostbitten far easier. Take any character into Outland Chromie Time levelling and look for yourself. Took me <5hrs for each achievement if you add up all the flying around.

This ancient achievement is somewhat difficult to get due to Blizz implementing the 15-20min zone reset function for all of the Outland zones. Essentially what they did to TLPD hunters, they did to all of Outland and anyone trying to go after this achievement. No idea why other than it being a total #$%^&*bag move. So if you were thinking of trying to use dead server shards to get this achievement, think again.

That being said, due to hardly anyone being in these zones even on full servers, you may find it a lot easier to get this achievement then at first glance. A lot of it is luck due to requiring individual zone shards being up for hours if some rando happens to have quested there recently. If they haven't, then the zones will reset the spawn timers on the rares you need.

used Silver Dragon addon and swapped between wm on and off at 3-5 am xD
Ambassador was the biggest problem, maybe because he spawns in populated quest areas, unlike most other mobs that spawn in the middle of nowhere ;)
