Silithus used to be a wasteland, many creatures didn't have loot tables assigned and the scarab wall used to split the zone in half (at this time silithus was basically a rectangle).

Then around patch 1.8 or so they added in Cenarion Hold, altered the terrain and made it a major quest hub. Annoying for those who used to farm their in peace on the few mobs which dropped anything ;P but always good to see new content.

You can get to Silithus by taking a path in Un'Goro Crater. The path to Silithus starts in the northwest area of the Un'Goro Crater map @ 29,22.

In this zone you can do a lot Cenarion Circle reputation quests. Some, from my understanding, also include pvp.
However, since the rewards became pretty useless you won't see too many people here anymore.
Wasteland it once was, wasteland it is yet again.

An interesting note is that some, if not all (I only checked Hyve Regal) mobs can actually be skinned.
This is interesting because there are no other bugs that I know of like this that can be skinned.

As for patch 2.3 all bugs in Silithus are non-elite now.
Hive'Regal, Hive'Zora and Hive'Ashi.
This makes it much easier to breeze through these quests, and to farm additional scales for paterns.

This is great for leatherworkers, since nearly all the loot you get from skinning can be used for those 275 - 350 recipes.

For all you Darkmoon Faire fanatics, the scorpions have about a 50% chance to drop Glowing Scorpid Blood. I've picked up 20 in the last hour - not a bad haul.

Anyone familiar with the Dune Universe will see where they got their inspiration from.
Sand Worms, Jom Gabbar trinket from Ahn'Qiraj and the numerous dukes running around are only a few examples.

Other than a few decent grinding quests this zone is aweful and in my honest opinion worth never visiting while questing.

It's full of ANNOYING monsters which are close together. Theres hardly a square ft. in this zone without a monster in it.

Most of them will stack annoying poisons and root you in one way or another making traveling around this zone which only has 1 path which monsters walk near a pain - most of your quest objectives will lead you into packed areas.

If you plan on doing a lot of grinding/farming/questing here, it would be a good idea to set your hearthstone to Cenarion Hold to save some time.

Make sure you have the flight points needed to get to Thunder Bluff if you're Horde (Mages have a little less of a hassle, but they still have to worry about getting stuck with your hearthstone on cooldown). That way, you can make a quick trip up to throw something in the bank or the AH.

Alliance players might have a harder time, since the only capital city they can get to with flight points alone is Darnassus.

It took me a while to find the entrance to Silithus. Actually found it on accident! The trail from Un Goro is found at 29.4, 22.4. Follow trail between rock spires and it leads you in.

If you plan on questing here prepare to be rather lonely considering this is a pretty low populated area. But its not too bad if you want to hit 60 before hitting up BC content.

If you go south of AQ you can be on a little tauren island, its only gotten there by swimming from tanaris or feralas. Nobody is there but its a really cool place to go if you wana kill time. (There is a picture)

Its a shame folk feel that way about Azshara, i think its underated, i like going their to get gear for my toons as it has some really good drops, possibly thats why it can be so good for drops due to very little folk giving it any intrest...non the less their loss has been definately my gain :)

This is a great place to farm Cenarion Circle rep, right after i finished with Cerarion expedition in Zangarmarsh i farmed rep here for the circle and it was pretty fast. You get cultists clothes and put them on then fool the elementals and then use the drops off of them to summon bigger guys which in turn give you more rep, i guess you could say it's a funner rep grind... :P

Seems like the only zone to not get changed at all. Besides for the portal anyway. For all you nostalgic players that have been around from the beginning, it still has most of its original quests, and retains that vanilla feel.

Silithus was not changed in Cata. The quests remain the same. The only change to the area was the inclusion of a portal to the Blasted Lands in Cenarion Hold - which is Blizzard's way, in their own words, of saying to just avoid Silithus outright while leveling.

Hopefully, the future will hold something for the zone.

As of 4.0 both Silithus and the Blasted Lands have been revamped to only get you to 58 and off to Outlands. Considering there is a portal to Outlands in the Blasted Lands AND Silithus is in the middle of nowhere, the reasoning for the portal Has nothing to do with the zone, simply the aftermath.

Actually, on the Beta forums, they specifically said that very little changes were coming to Silithus, and that portal was being added from Silithus to Blasted Lands in order to encourage players to go there.

POST-CATACLYSM WARNING: The majority of quests and quest-giver turn-in locations have been broken or REMOVED in Silithus. It is possible that someone intended to update Silithus for Cata and either quit or forgot to finish updating quests in time. Currently the only real quests that work for Silithus are turn-ins for Twilight Texts and some minor 'kill x creatures' quests.

IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED TO WASTE TIME QUESTING HERE UNTIL FIXED!

(If someone plans to TRY to get Cenarion Circle reputation, the Twilight Texts are pretty much the only method to do this now. Abyssal Crests, Badges, missions, Twilight Robes/etc are NO LONGER USABLE FOR QUESTS, although mobs still drop the items and summoning stones are still usable if you had some of the more difficult to obtain materials...)

Kind of a shame the zone didn't get updated in the Shattering, since the Twilight's Hammer plays such a major role in Cata and Silithus was pretty much their main base of operations up until now.

It's an interesting zone, it'd be cool to see it expanded on someday. Probably not gonna happen any time soon, but I can hope.

In my view the Cata update of this zone is disappointing. There are very few quests in the zone: enough to gain just over 2 levels of XP. This may not be a problem in itself if you're intending to go to Outland at level 58, but it leaves the zone feeling oddly empty. There are numerous locations and mobs which play no role in the game. The lore leaves lots of loose ends (what happened to Brann Bronzebeard? what are Twilight's Hammer doing in the region? what is encoded on the crystalline prism?). The main quest chain stops abruptly at 揭开秘密. The PVP doesn't really work, partly because nobody does it, and partly because it is undermotivated (why should we want to collect the silithysts?).

Not recommended.

Looks like Patch 4.1.0 removed a few quests here, mainly 召唤, which would reward you with some nice gear. It's rather unfortunate Blizzard seems to have further gutted the quests here instead of expanding or re-doing them for Cataclysm. This zone seems to now be completely forsaken by Blizz.

Ok my addon says it should get me from 55-60 but it didnt even get me to 57 maybe im missing quests? but the NPCs in Cenarion Hold wouldnt offer anymore once i got the 19 required ones for the achievement.

There is absolutely no reason to quest here at all. They pulled a handful of quests from this zone after the shattering, and did nothing else it seems. At best you'll get maybe 2 levels and the quest chain just abruptly ends. At this point your best course of action is to either level through Blasted Lands, which should get you from 55-58 or very close, or chain run dungeons until you can hit Outlands.

As much as it's dissapointing that Silithus is more or less abandoned by Blizzard, I gotta say it's a tough nut for them. There's not a lot you can squeeze out of this zone now, C'thun and his minions were after all defeated in vanilla so there's really nothing else here apart from the Twilight cultists which were also presumably defeated.

The only thing I can imagine would be the Cenarion Circle trying to "rejuvenate" Silithus into a rich and flourishing wilderness like Feralas or Un'Goro, though that would likely mean the removal of AQ40 and possibly even Thunderfury!

How do you even get into this zone? I can't get to Ungoro Crater, either. I'm just going for some Thorium, but the zone in completely inaccessible from the North.

By far one of the most epic places in entire WoW (for me of course!). May be it is sand or the fact that is a completely forgot wasteland, may be is the legends of the Shifting Sands War and the opening of Ahn'Qiraj, may be because it manages to hold the fantasy feeling of when I first played Warcraft, but Silithus will always holld a special place in my mind as true.

This is one of the zones that make me regret playing. In vanilla this zone was like a literal bee hive,groups scurrying about questing here and there. World pvp was in its finest form (between here,blackrock mountian and hillsbrad). In its day an epic was actually....epic.

As of MoP, there are now 20 rares in this zone. But in contrast to Burning Steppes and Swamp of Sorrows, Silithus is not such a good place for farming rares since many of them wander around or are underground.

While searching for the long gone Tauren Encampment, i found something far more interesting. In the Mountain-range south for Silithus, there is a very large cave of sorts. It is vast but completely empty, except for a sleeping, lone Dragon. Better yet, the Dragon himself was added in patch 5.3, which makes this VERY intriguing, and almost creepy.

Edit: The Battle for Azeroth expansion has made Silithus relevant again, but for historical purposes, I will leave my post unchanged below for those who never experienced Pre-Cata Silithus.

A bit of history:

The Cataclysm expansion brought many sweeping changes to most of the zones as we knew them, changing the pace, adding different storylines, introducing new characters, and of course, cameos of those who have been brought again to the forefront from the days of old.

Many people here say that Silithus hasn't changed from before Cata, but that's not quite true. The truth is a bit sadder, resulting in a diminished and unfortunate state for this zone, a shadow of its former glory. Once a "hive" (lol) of activity with 20-40 man raids, world PvP, Twilight's Hammer grinding, and more, this is now a relic of a bygone era.

Some of you might be confused why several existing quest chains end vaguely or seem incomplete. If you're interested to know why, here are some things that made this zone interesting in the past that are no longer in the game:

流沙守望者巴里斯托尔斯: The NPC quest giver of 明天的希望, the original epic quest chain to rebuild the 流沙节杖 and open the gates of Ahn'Qiraj to start the second Qiraji War. Along the way, you learn a LOT of lore behind the Ahn'Qiraj war, Fandral Staghelm and his son, and the dragonflights. However....he just stands around now, trying to keep the sand off his Giantstalker gear, with no quests to give.

Hive'Zora, Hive'Ashi, and Hive'Regal: These all used to be elite creatures, and very important for grinding several items. 战地任务 would open up Tactical, Logistical, and Battle quests which rewarded 塞纳里奥战术徽章 (for epic gear) and 塞纳里奥议会 reputation. Also, during the AQ quest chain, you would become an 诺兹多姆的使者 or be "deputized" to gather 异种蝎壳碎片. Turning in 200 of these would reward 诺兹多姆的子嗣 reputation, which was *initially* the only way to grind the rep to hit neutral to open the gates (where upon everyone can grind rep in the raids). These bugs are now barely relevant, a mild nuisance while mining or completing what few quests remain.

地质学家拉克斯班: Used to have the quest 召唤, a raid that recommended 20+ people to complete. As this was an open world raid with huge creatures, a lot of lore text and yells across the zone, this quest was slightly more difficult to complete on PvP servers as opposing guilds enjoyed ruining your raid attempts. This quest gave a lot of lore, Cenarion Circle rep, and the followup class-specific gear quest to obtain two pieces of Nature Resist gear, crucial if you were raiding 哈霍兰公主 and were called to be a part of the "Nature Resist Wall" (lucky you!). Larksbane still gives quests, but not this one.

The Twilight Base Camp, Post, and Outpost: These areas served two big purposes: Cenarion Circle reputation grind (for the 暮光密文信 we can still do today but awarded 75 rep back then), and farming the 深渊节杖. The Scepter was an objective of 3 quests:

*谦卑的馈赠 - Rewarded 塞纳留斯指环, again a must-have if raiding 哈霍兰公主. Also rewarded Cenarion Circle rep.
* - Rewarded 一箱战利品, decent gold for the day and usually some 强效自然防护药水. Again, more Cenarion Circle rep.
- Rewarded more 一箱战利品, essentially a repeatable Abyssal Scepter dump for more chests, for those who love grinding.

To get the 深渊节杖, you needed 暮光信徒披肩, 暮光信徒长袍, and 暮光信徒兜帽, but these were consumed each time they were used for summoning the abyssal templars, dukes and lords. To quote Satarus on the Scepter page:

To get one of these you must farm/buy 16 complete twilight cultist sets (cowl, mantle, robe). You must also get 9 large brilliant shards.

Next use 12 of your cultist sets to kill 12 templars (solo or duo encounter)
Now turn in your 12 crests from the templars with 4 of your shards to make 4 twilight medalions of the station. (must be friendly)
Use 3 of those necklaces and 3 more cultist sets to kill 3 dukes (5 man encounter) and get 3 signets.
Turn in your 3 signets with your last 5 shards for the twilight ring of lordship (must be revered).

Finaly use your last cultist set, medalion of the station, and ring of lordship to summon a lord. (20 man encounter).

Notes: If at anytime you wipe to a summoned mob, it will despawn and you will have lost all the items used to summon him. Also all of the items are tradeable so you can have someone else do the turn ins if you lack the faction to do them.

Now, the pillars used for summoning the dukes, templars and lords serve as nothing more than scenery in the Twilight camps, forever silent. No reaction to your now useless Twilight Cultist sets.

There were other quests that took you to Southwind Village to discover what happened, and other Silithus objectives that were a part of the Tactical & Logistic Briefings (like killing 暮光掠夺者莫娜 and 暮光预言者) that kept you all over this zone which was very much alive.

It wouldn’t have been all that difficult to even wrap in the Twilight Cultists out here with Cho’Gall’s cultists in the Twilight Highlands (maybe a chain regarding them being sent to scour C’thun’s old stomping grounds for artifacts?). Or simply leave the zone alone for those who wished to see what it once was. In the end, we have a zone stripped of what made it glorious, tedious, and/or famous. No meaningful closure to the War of the Shifting Sands, the Cultists, or the Silithid. No mention of the efforts of Fandral Staghelm when he was a good guy. Nothing on the Dragonflights' involvement, the Cenarion Circle, or the Scarab Lord who had to to begin the invasion of Ahn'Qiraj...and nothing of the heroes responsible for annihilating one of Azeroth's greatest threats, the Old God 克苏恩.

*Edit: Following the announcement at Blizzcon 2016, this zone will, for a few days a year, be home to a Micro-Holiday that celebrates the opening of the Ahn'Qiraj gates. From January 21-23, players can partake in some quests to experience altered versions of what some aspects of this zone used to be, especially the Twilight Cultist sets and summoning the Abyssal Dukes mentioned above. It's nice to see a nod to this very special event, and a commemoration of WoW's unique past.

Stormwind -> Portal to Uldum -> Fly the remaining distance to Silithus
Legion Dalaran -> Portal to Caverns of time -> Fly the remaining distance to Silithus
Mage Portal to Theramore -> Fly the remaining distance to Silithus
Engineers (Gnome) Ultrasafe Transporter: Gadgetzan -> Fly the remaining distance to Silithus
Orgrimmar -> Portal to Uldum -> Fly the remaining distance to Silithus

If you need to go back to pre-stabby days...
You'll want to talk to:
Rhonormu, who is standing at the Scarab Dais, near the entrance to Ahn'Qiraj.
Or Zidormi in the top, north-east of the map, just outside of Valor's Rest.

To go back and forth through time (in the zone), just talk to them.

Fun Fact:
Even when you're in Silithus' past, the skybox still shows Illidan's 'star'

Rhonormu is only at the dias in the present day. You can turn back the clock with him, but to return you have to talk to Zidormi

(The following assumes you do not have a Silithus portal available)

We all know about the way to toggle map phases based on time lines / expansions but on this occasion 希多尔米 is located way to the north. Great if you are on foot walking up from 安戈洛环形山. Unlikely, lol.

Collecting your Battle for Azeroth 艾泽拉斯之心 from 麦格尼·铜须 and other gear with quests such as 艾泽拉斯之心 or 灌注世界之心, require you to see the scarred Battle for Azeroth version of 希利苏斯 and conversely farming your 塞纳里奥议会 rep, collecting 奶糖, questing or mining require the "old" time phase.

Better is 罗诺姆 at (33.34,80.70) in the far south on the Silithus map, regardless of the time phase.

From your capital, grab the Uldum portal to Ramkahen.
Then fly up to the Oasis of Vir'sar or use the flight point to there.
Now hop over the border to the deep south of Silithus, to the entrance of Ahn'Qiraj.
Do a "/tar Rho" in chat, without the quotes as Rhonormu can be difficult to find the first time.

Swap time phases to your heart's content!

If you come here to quest using the Cataclysm Timewalking campaign from Chromie, the zone will appear in it's pre-stabbed state. However, make sure to talk to Zidormi and have her change the time of the zone anyway. The zone itself will not physically change, but for some reason the flight master at Cenarion Hold will be bugged and not let you fly from him if you don't talk to Zidormi.
