As of now, this doesn't work the way it should. If you have two DoTs on you and use this spell, it'll remove the DoTs, but your invisibility will still be cancelled by them.

Defeats the purpose of speccing it.

My first reading of the tooltip lead me to believe that you will take 90% less damage from AoE while remaining invisible. Apparently, even though you are not targetable, damage of any kind breaks the invisibility, so for the first tick of an AoE spell and for 3 seconds after invisibility breaks, you take 90% less damage. This is not a weaker version of Ice Block, but a slightly improved version of Invisibility. It would be more appropriately named Improved Invisibility. It's a very underwhelming talent.

Besides lowering threat immediately, it could also be useful in a specific situation: in PvP, when 2 melee fighters group against you and you are alone. In such situations cauterize won't save your life, but invisibility will.

Uses for this talent as of 5.2 in PvE:

Soaking an explosion from a Celestial Protector on Heroic Elegon.
Double Soaking sparks on Heroic Will of the Emperors.
Absorb Tortos' stomp - moreso on Heroic.
Solo soak Static Shock during phase transitions.

Also applicable:

Absorbing some damage during Feng's Arcane Velocity when you have Arcane Resonance.
Makes Attenuation - even Heroic - a joke.
Actually REMOVES the Wind Step debuff.
Also removes the 2nd door bleeds on Horridon (Warning: drops threat on Pink Dino)
Heroic Jinrohk dispels.
Every other rampage on Megaera, also a joke. Alternatively, self dispel Cinders.
Ji-kun's Quills.
Durumu trash maze - that thing likes to pull me in and spawn the safe spot on the other side.
Volatile Pathogen - who needs healers?
Iron Qon's Tornado Storm - still don't need healers.

I like to pair up Temporal Shield with this - take 4 seconds of the high damage, then Invis and let myself self-heal up a bit.

A lot of people will argue "Well sure but Ice Block can do all that." - and they'd be right! Except, you can't move when you're Blocked. Also, it's a 5 minute cooldown, while this is 90 seconds. "Well cauterize can do that too, AND I don't have to time anything." OK. Cauterize has an internal limit of 200% of your maximum life, there is no guarantee you will live - and you are also relying on your healers to top you up afterwards. Cauterize will also fail you if the damage comes in multiple parts (Will of the Emp's Sparks, aftermath of Tortos' Stomp).

Still acts as a threat dump.

Finally, avoiding a repair bill by avoiding dying during a wipe. Your gold stack will thank you.

The talent really isn't useless. I guess I'm just surprised not many people use it.

Other than the stealth alone, it can make an instant speed boost for mages when coupled with 被烧毁的雕文. With this talent, the cooldown also becomes 1.5 minutes rather than the usual 5 minutes.

As a severely undergeared mage in PVP I find taking this spell over Cold Snap keeps me alive way more often in random battlegrounds. When warriors or rogues or DKs get on me and I have little chance of escape, popping this after a blink means I almost always get away. While I realize wowpopular suggests taking Cold Snap, for my play style at least this is more useful as I don't tend to get healed in pug BGs very often. I'll be switching to Cold Snap once my gear improves and I start doing rated BGs (or if there's a healer that I can count on to heal me when I ice block).

Using ice block and then this spell has saved my life countless times. Works great for surprise attacks too.

Note: If your like me and trying to setup an addon to track the Greater Invisibility buff so you can see how long till you reappear I was able to with ID 110960.
