I can honestly say I have committed a genocide among the Noxious Whelp community. Much weaker men would avoid putting this down in words, too afraid to see a verbal testament to their depravity before them: I have killed thousands. With a grimace did I accept the non-combat pet they gifted me. It hardly seems worth it now. I will treasure it, as well as loathe it, as it reminds me of the time spent exterminating a much less threatening villain than I.

I like how the Tiny Emerald Whelpling isn't considered "Noteworthy", yet it's been the object of virtually every comment on this page.

Also, this is the only enemy in-game that you can skin a Green Whelp Scale from.

In Cataclysm!

黑龙宝宝 Now drops from 黑鳞雏龙 in Wetlands. And from 滚烫的雏龙 in Badlands.
However 红龙宝宝 can also drop from every singel mob in Wetlands.
So now when you farm 黑鳞雏龙, you have a chance to get both.

绿龙宝宝 Now drops from 毒性雏龙 in Feralas.
蓝龙宝宝 Now drops from all mobs in Winterspring.

I've looted enough Tiny Fang and Dragon Femur, and skinned enough Green Whelp Scale that you would think I could construct my own Tiny Emerald Whelpling by now.

I can Confirm, that these do Indeed drop Sprite Darter Egg I have spent aprox: 1 hr 30 mins clearing all the whelps in the area doing circular runs back and forth and got the this egg on my 6th run around the lake as a lvl 39 Mage. At first I got alittle carried away and thought this to be the Whelp, until I read the item... but ah well, keep on I must! atleast I have some cute company whilst I mindlessly grind. :) Happy looting everybody!

So my decision to begin the nearly fruitless endeavor has lead me to a somewhat useful discovery.
This little annoying whelp has produced over 10 stacks of medium and heavy leather with skinning which fetched a decent price in the AH and considering this little sucker sells for nearly 110K on Eonar it helps ease the pain quite a bit.

I almost had a heartattack. 20th kill in I got the pet. 20 kills later, I got the beacon. Going to bed early now to make sure I'm not dreaming this up!

Noxious Whelps also drop the OOX-22/FE Distress Beacon, if you still need the quests to get An OOX of Your Own (ie a Mechanical Chicken)

Between that, the Tiny Emerald Whelpling, and the Sprite Darter Egg, should make a decent pet-farming spot

After a couple sweeps of the spawning area I worked out a very smooth system of rotating around the little island (they spawn all around the outside of it) with no down time, killing groups right after they spawn. I went clock-wise around the island, taking out the little clumps of 毒性雏龙s in a snake like pattern (http://cdn1.droidmill.com/media/market-media/com.marsapp.android.snake_0.png), not re-stepping anywhere. I made sure to set my pet to passive, so that I wasn't kept from looting any of them. I got a 绿龙宝宝 in < an hour it seemed, maybe a bit more, but after that I farmed for a couple hours and couldn't get a second. So I kept the little devil. <3 This was also a great source of Heavy & Medium Leather & Hide, as well as 绿色幼龙鳞片s (needed for公式：附魔手套 - 剥皮) - but these stack at 5. I even got a rare recipe / 2 to throw on the AH. Overall, I highly recommend farming this, because it is a beautiful pet and could fetch close to, if not exceeding 10,000 G on the AH. You'll get a feel of how to efficiently farm them and eventually one will drop. Only all the more if you're a Leather Worker. Hope I was some help, feel free to add to this. ;D

If you're going to farm these guys, if you can, do it on a Hunter who is also a skinner. With MoP on the horizon, leatherworkers will be busy making and selling leather items for Monks. Since you're going to be killing a lot of these little guys, make the most of it. Use your hunter's Track Dragonkin to move efficiently and Aspect of the Cheetah (you're going to one-shot them so no danger of being stunned) to move quickly. These whelps give you Heavy and Medium leather, hides, and also Green Whelp Scale (which is used in Enchanting for the +5 skinning to gloves - aren't you mad when you can't skin General Umbriss in Grim Batol!)

I am farming these mobs for the sprite darter egg, but have not been very lucky with it! total game time is 5 days, 2 hours, and 36 minutes farming the mobs.
Good luck and happy farming, the whelps WILL drop, just sometimes they are spaced out on how they drop, sometimes you can get 2 in 300 kills or one in 2000 kills.

I was farming mine for about an hour and a half, when it dropped I kinda flipped out and was telling my friend on skype. He didn't believe me so I tried to tab out and share screens, but my computer sucks so I got DC'd ( and I swear it said, "yay! You have found so and so in your bags) I come back after the DC and it's no where to be seen..... I got it an hour and a half after that. I feel very lucky because I could have two. ( I contacted a GM about the "first" one. ).

Hi, a tip to help you farm this mob, who loot the 绿龙宝宝, create a macro with the following lines (taking my example for 死亡骑士, but put what you want instead of 凛风冲击, as long as it is instant cast)

/cleartarget
/target Noxious Whelp
/script SetRaidTarget("target", 8)
/cast Howling Blast

Explanations :

/cleartarget : deselects any target that you may have
/target Noxious Whelp : lock the closest 毒性雏龙
/script SetRaidTarget("target", 8) : Activates the skull icon on the target
/cast Howling Blast : hitting the target with the spell

Personally, I put 天蓝水黾缰绳 on my second macro bar in position 3, and the newly created macro in position 4. And I turn around the grove dream. I can walk on water with 天蓝水黾缰绳, I chain 3, 4, 3, 4, 3, 4, etc..

A single drop of that stupid whelping pet costs 6000 gold on the AH.

I have killed hundreds of these awful flying asshats. Thousands. I am certain by the time one drops I could use the silver collected from all these kills to buy a SECOND whelpling pet. They drop about 2 silver each kill. I'm pretty sure I'm up to 20 gold.

Do not give up hope! I was just passing by feralas and i'm a bit of a pet collector, so i stopped and typed in my pet finder thing, Feralas. And i saw the emerald whelpling and thought, this is one cool pet, so i went to Wow Head and checked it out, i saw 0.09 drop chance and i was like, never gonna happen. But i tought if the Noxious Whelps were up i might aswell give it a try. So i went there and started killing my way through, i'm on Khadgar and there was no other farming them. So i jus went around killing them and on my 10th- 16th it dropped, i was so suprised my hearh skipped a beat, so if your out there farming all day long, im telling you it will come. Ok. Emerald Whelpling, cool. But do these guys even drop the Green Whelp Scales anymore? I have several alts, and have noticed there are a few different recipes that have no longer farmable ingredients. For instance, Sharp Fangs have disappeared. If the ingredient no longer exists, why do we still have recipes for these items? Or better yet, bring back the ingredients!

An efficient, if mind-numbing way to farm the noxious whelps is to begin at the village, Dreamer's Rest near the lake. Head around the lake from the village, counter-clockwise. Depending on whether others are farming, you should be able to get 25 plus whelps with a complete circuit. That give enough time for all of them to respawn before you make your next circuit. Village is handy for selling trash and/or mailing stuff, repairs, etc. If my math is even close, it will take you approximately 52 circuits to cull 1000 or so whelps, hoping the pet drops. If others are farming it will take quite a few more turns around the lake.

I ran a trial to see how the wowhead data matched up with my personal attempts.

About Me:
Level 100 Worgen Rogue
Flying: 280%

Kills:
1000
Estimated Time: 3 1/2 hours
About 5-6 kills per minute (they are very spaced out)

Loot:
Four 绿龙宝宝

Obtained at kills 253, 461, 515, and 833

22 low value greens

Skinning:

202 绿色幼龙鳞片
281 重皮
281 中皮
53 various medium/heavy hides

Four whelplings in 1000 kills is a 0.4% drop for my experience. I did this trial out of pure interest in the numbers. Some people will take a lot more kills to get one, some will get it on their first kill. But from this data I collected, chances of getting a whelpling are high, but keep in mind how long it took me to kill 1000 whelps.

I hope this is interesting or useful for any other fellow farmers. Happy hunting!

Got the emerald Whelpling today, 1,5 clear of the entire bank. Used a hunter to track dragons to make it easier. Was done really fast, less than 5 minutes.

I have found out, that this mob is excellent if you're after 细小的牙齿s or 龙腿骨s. It just so happens, that I wanted 9000 Tiny Fangs and 1000 Dragon Femurs.

I was also lucky enough to get a bunch of 鬼行者战靴 and 石边双刃刀s, even though the latter one isn't even on the loot table!

I'm glad that I managed to avoid 绿龙宝宝s, which is practically a worthless, vendorable item, and has a higher drop rate on these than Ghostwalker Boots. I've had the same luck when farming cloth in Hillsbrad Foothills - I got near 100k kills and 猫笼（黑纹灰猫） didn't drop even once! Somehow it still showed up in my collections, and some of my gold mysteriously vanished.

I farmed Emerald Whelp years ago and nothing. Just came back to test my luck and on the third rotation around, it dropped!

Pay ~50k at the AH, or farm for several hours. Or, go spend 5 minutes capturing an Emerald Proto Whelp which has *exactly* the same abilities.

Farmer's Log Day 319:
I have now fashioned a medium-sized hut from the hides and teeth I have found on the bodies of the hundred of Noxious foes I've slain. The variety of items I have comes across give me false glimmers of hope and thus my quest for bloodshed continues. I loot items more rare than the one I seek and yet his tiny Emerald body still eludes me. Why. Why do I continue.

for some reason if you mouse over one of them the SKULL icon will appear over it as if it was a rare mob. no clue as to why though

Took me me 5 hours after I created the circuit. Did get a few nice upgrades in terms of greens for my character, and about 4 levels as well. Funny enough it dropped right after I told my guildie "this is going to be my last go for today. It's been 5 hrs." Literally next whelp dropped it. I audibly gasped. I count myself lucky.
