Will need a full group for this. At least a tank and healer. You could probably 2man it with said group, but it would take forever. Tank + Healer + 2dps would be ideal.

He hits for ~2000 on leather, and has a lot of HP.

Otherwise he's pretty easy, tank and spank. No special attacks.

It's a bit of trouble to make the pull. We stood atop a ledge and pulled with a throwing knife, then ran down to ground level and fought him. Be careful not to fall off, we had a few deaths before finally making it all work :)

He's easy to pull. Go up to platue (spelling??) and there is a peak that is higher than the rest. Stand there, have rest of group set up on the flat part. Pull dragon when he paths by. Jump down and let tank take him. It help if you have some slow fall then you jump down. LOL

Good place to pull is on top of the little mountain thing 69 85

and fight him on 69 84

He flys around in a big circle, could take a minute for him to pass by... good idea to have mage pull and then jump down and ice block then tank pulls aggro... once again nothing special in this fight, he hits hard so good healer is needed.

IMPORTANT: Having spectracles is not enough -- the members of your party need to be on the quest, or else you can't see him. The tank we brought wasn't on it and he never saw it even when it was killing us :-P

This quest became waayyy too hardcore after blizzart added those netherwing quests... there is simply no room to fight the dragon... I tried to pull him down on my alt and once I got him down off the mountain top to our cleared zone he just started bugging and evading... :(, anyone knows a way to beat him after 2.1?

I'm not positive if this still works - but it did about a week before 2.1:

Anyone who doesn't need the quest and is only there as support (not having to target the actual dragon) shouldn't wear the goggles. This way the dragon can't agro/hit you at all but you can still heal/support the people who are getting hit.

Not sure if it will necessarily matter too much since he is tank and spank - but someone may find this useful.

2-manned with a Shadow priest as healer and an Elemental Shammy as Tank and DPS.
I (the Shadow Priest) used one potion, other than that, it was very smooth. And very fast.

I don't think you really need a full group, however, I might recommend bringing a third if you feel uncertain of being able to tank And do DPS in a good way.

Also 2 manned with a feral druid and Shadow Priest. Took a while as melee dmg against him is low but he only hit for ~900-~1000 with 18k armor. Not sure if he can crit as def'ed up to crit immune for the fight. Shadow priest used Shadow Fiend but had plenty of mana at end of fight. And the fight top the tallest peak is the way to go, didn't agro anything else, had plenty of room for 2 of us, although with 5 it might be a little cramped.

Note to all who wish to begin this fight. With the addition of the http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=11071 quest, Captain Skyshatter will and has knocked myself and my group off the mountain that you pull Vhel'kur. Unsure if this was the cause, but Vhel'kur got evade bugged on the side of the mountain.

The fireball that hits you does 0 damage. It is a high knockback and is not reported in your combat log. Be aware that we were to pull Vhel'kur, and this wiped half if not most of our group. Frustrating to say the least. If you by chance are not pushed off the mountain, your pushed towards one of the elite Flayers, resulting in your death and anywhere else nearby.

This can be done without a tank with good dps. Did it with warlock and rogue switching off aggro (soulshatter/vanish when you need lose aggro) and a healer because our tank's goggles didn't work. He went to the town and got replacement goggles and the buff appeared on him, but he couldn't see the guy so all he couldn't help at all. So if you can't find a tank he is still worth a shot.

solod on feral druid a couple weeks ago... got my pally (also prot up to 70 with some blues and green) and i got him down to 20% i used lay on hands shields pots.... but down he had some lucky hits on me xD took me a while before i figured i wasnt hitting him and he was hitting me.... (rofl @ target needs ot be infront of you)

I almost solod this as a holy paly with 900 healing while wearing the spectracles, i got him ~2/3 down before going oom

edit, tryd again with different trinkets, and less holy shocking, and got him to 13k health :( SOOOO close........

Tried 3 times as a 70 pure aff lock. 3rd time I got him down to ~20% before he chained crits on the VW and out-damaged health funnel.
He was doing roughly 900-1100 on my VW, with 2200 crits. The first two tries I didn't think to use CoW. The third attempt I kept up curse of weakness at all times and tried to keep SL up as much as possible, but I basically had to health funnel the entire fight or risk losing the VW within 5 seconds.
I might respec just to get this done and then go back (SMV is nearly abandoned with WotLK out). 7 into Demo for Imp. Health Funnel would make all the difference here. I'll try to find a healer or 2nd dps to try this again before that though!

Killed him as a 70 demo lock. CoW + Corruption + Immolate, and spaming health funnel on my felguard. Did it in the first try.

He's definately soloable at 70, just did it as a Prot Paladin. I was standing on the peak. He didn't seem to hit too hard, but for a while I had trouble getting in alingment in front of him on that little peak. Good luck.

great tips! - this is the flying route, its clockwise

go counter clockwise (60%) mount is enough, and you can take him out in the middle of the southern part of the route, a mountain top.

Tried to solo as a 68 Boomkin, a bit over 800 spellpower, nearly 8k health... not a chance.

Being an old BC quest, it's really hard to find someone that is actually doing this quest as well, since the Spectrecles are needed in order to see him.

Just Solo'ed as a 67 demo lock. Had to change out a few glyphs and a respec but as I plan to try and solo old world raids and the like later, this was just my first hurdle.

With Imp. VW talents and Imp Health Funnel it made his damage manageable. Before I found I would kill myself slowly with the damage that I would leak away with health funnel constantly on, but changing from demon armor to fel armor (passive health regen) and respecing to pick up Siphon Life the battle went from extremely difficult to a war of attrition. After a long fight he was down with little trouble.

EDIT: most likely doable with Felguard too, I just had to drop it to be able to get Siphon Life at my level. SL and Fel Armor were what really made the difference here with being able to out heal my constant funneling.

I just killed him with a level 73 warlock. I'm a level 69 DK. We used the voidwalker to tank, let it's hp drop low, then the lock took aggro until low health, then I did until low health, and repeated. I used runetap to heal along with Death strike. Both used a soul stone also.

Soloed him with a 68 Blood DK. Just keep an eye on your health bar; his health is intimidating, but he doesn't hit that hard.

doesn't hit that hard? 67 Ret Pally - 7200 health, dps meter shows i'm solid around 700 - this dude 3 hit me - the worst being 3500dmg - all three attacks came in about 2 seconds - 3011, 1706, and 3510 - i've got BoA sword, shoulders chest and trinket, best enchants/leg armor/armor kits possible. this is not solo'able by this class this spec.

Just did this a couple minutes ago; He wasn't flying around the island, but he was "stuck" in the ground by Arvoar the Rapacious. I'm a hunter, lvl. 80, caught him with Track Undead after flying around spamming a target macro. If you can't find him at the peak everyone else mentioned; or circling the perimeter, this is probably where he's at.

80 MM in crafted purples. This is a tough fight. Why? Because if you get on the ground so you can hit him from range, the flayers respawn at a tremendous rate. If you take him at the peak, be prepared (as a hunter) to melee him with your pet... and hunters aren't really known for their melee power heh. Also, you will lose whatever head item you are wearing because of the goggles you need to be able to see the dragon.

My wolf and I ended up clearing flayers, then hitting him on the ground. The flayers kept respawning, and eventually we had to fight not only Vhel'kur but Arvoar the Rapacious as well. Not a fun fight. Vhel'kur killed my pet, and I killed him just as Arvoar and about 6 flayers killed me (out of freeze traps, I could have feigned but the dragon was at ~1% so I just took the death).

Oh well, I got the armor, so that's that.

Just did this quest on my 80 (working on loremaster)

not sure if its a common bug but I was waiting around 10 min at the spot Ive always killed him...never showed. couldnt find anything about it in comments, had the helm on too. started flying around spamming /tar Vhel found him down on the ground.

So if your having trouble finding him and have your helm on try that. hopefully it was just a weird fluke for me

For Priests and Mages, you can fight him in the orc encampment and not worry about adds or interference from people doing Skyshatter.

Make a macro that fires one of your instant cast offensive abilities and dismounts you (I used holy nova since I already have that macro, but any instant cast ability works). Just flying through him doesn't work, unfortunately.

Wait for him above the Dragonmaw camp, then fly within range to hit him with your chosen spell/dismount macro. Make sure to hit Levitate or Slowfall on the way down. He'll come all the way down to the ground where you are and it's an easy kill from there.

solo'd as a 69 prot pally, took alot of time and healing, thats why holy power is so much help.
i wouldnt say its easy to solo but not the HARDEST thing on the game :)

Soloed this as Lv68 Shadow Priest (in non shadow form).

I just had to make sure to keep my 3 dots up all the time, while Renew, Power Word Shield and Flash Heal alternately. Power word shield can only block 2 attacks and he attacks around once per second. When time allowed, I also channeled Mind Fray here and there

Gears: BOA and Burning Crusade dungeon blues, gemmed, but nothing is enchanted.

Me and my partner (a 68 prot war and 68 shadow priest) expected a hard fight, but with some concentration we took Vhel'kur down pretty well. Luckily he has no knock-back attacks and can be pulled safely from atop the very high peak at 69.8, 85.9.

When I was doing these quests, the mobs color changed to GREEN at some point, so I couldnt attack them. Probably because I was doing other quests too.

I figured out the solution is to take off your Spectracles and put them on again. Now the mobs should be red again and can be attacked.

If you can't see him at first, take your Spectrecles off and then re-equip them. He instantly appeared as soon as I did that.

Solo'd as a level 70 Restoration Shaman wearing mostly greens and some BoA's. (Even had the Greaves of Withering Despair still on and Pulled Wool as a cape, one or two NR greens, and the rest were quest greens from OL)

Summoned my Earth and Fire elementals right off, slapped an earth shield on the earth ele, and started spamming Lightning Bolt, Flame Shock and Lava Burst. Elemental timers ticked off and I finished him off by earth shielding myself, auto-attacking, and keeping flame shock up with searing totem. Was easy to riptide through.

Did NOT kill him as Ele, though. Not even close. (Didn't use my cooldown totems, though.)

You do have to have your Spectrecles to see him, however, I could not find him patrolling Netherwing Ledge!

He was "stuck" by Arvoar the Rapacious (74, 86) somewhat in the ground!

Don't fly around hopelessly like I did!

Maybe it's because I'm level 75, but I had no problem killing him myself with a voidwalker. But I'm also an undead warlock so I've only got cloth armor.

I was able to solo Vhel'kur as a level 69 blood death knight with blood presence. All I had equipped were quest equipment and a darkened broadsword of stamina with RazorIce rune. What I did first was raise a ghoul so that I can use death pact as soon as I needed it and then horn of winter before I attacked. To start my attack I first pulled him in standing on one of the small mountains that he flies close to; immediately followed by death and decay, strangulate, icy touch, plague strike, death strike, and death coil. After that just keep hitting him with death coil, blood boil, and death strike. Use Icebound fortitude, rune tap, and horn of winter when you can. If you time and heal wisely, you should be able to defeat him.

The biggest problem here is that he flies up real high and never lands. Everybody needs Specrecals, and everybody's going to need a flying mount. You're gonna need somebody up high with a Range spell to pull him, then since you're high on a pinnicle, get down carefully. Also, you're missing a piece of armour - Spectrecals

I soloed this guy and even at level 77 he took a bit of managing for my Ret Paladin. I had no heirlooms.

Solo'ed this as 68 Demonology Warlock.
Popped up my Voidwalker and Doomguard, instantly went into demon form and DoT'ed him with Curse of Doom. Back to humanoid form and put up Corruption and my two charges of Hand of Gul'dan. Health Funnel rest of the fight.

just equipt specs and use flying mount to find a hill close ebough to his path to pull then either fight him there or find a safe way down.

shield + desperate prayer worked like a charm for me.

Solo'ed with a level 72 Hunter. You need the Spectrecles equipped and be on the peak at 71, 81. He will fly right over you, don't be mounted when you target and attack him.

For the patient ones who also prefer to be within melee range then an ideal location is atop the skinny hill at precisely 72.1, 87.1.

厄库尔 flew between 10 and 11 yards from me which was quite enough (as measured accurately by the Hard Yards AddOn).

I had to do this as at my level I couldn't seem to aggro him down from his rather high flight path.

Still surprisingly tough to kill. I had no deaths but he is definitely more than your average quest elite these days. The guy hits regularly for 1,000-1600 and sometimes for double that or he hits really fast at that time.

I found him at 71,86 stuck in a hill, he was not flying around. ON a level 70 warlock in heirlooms it was doable with a voidwalker and a lot of pet heals.

Try to do the Quest to kill him today, wait ~20 minutes and he didnt spawn. Just realise i need to wear Spectracles (some comments told so), which i got from a Quest in Wildhammer. Ofc i didnt have them anymore, i threw them away after "learning" them for transmog... You can get new ones from Zorus in Wildhammer (Draenei in purple Paladin Set). Back to Questing Zone, i put them on and saw Vhel'kur as a kind of red Shadow. Obv not hard to kill him today in Dragonflight^^ (Sorry for bad english hope you understand <3)

The respawn rate is about 1 minute. /way 64.73 84.02
You need to wear your 幽灵眼镜. If you lost your pair, you can get another from 仲裁者索鲁斯 in Wildhammer Stronghold.
厄库尔 will appear as a red shadow at that way point about 100 ft in the air.
