I think his voice sounds very much like Jeremy Irons ( particularly as the role he had for Scar in the Lion King ) !

You know, I just realized something. As the Gatekeeper, he's responsible for maintaining the trials on the grounds, right? If so, the color puzzle for the trial of Cunning makes total sense now! Think about it:

"I have designed a trial that I believe will challenge you, based on your level of intellect. Try not to hurt yourselves."

...I think he invented a quest solely to insult us. Well played.
