Some seconds after the 利爪龙后 at 48 9.75 is killed the 失怙的利爪龙 spawns at 47 10.5. The mob is yellow and you can talk to it. If you have 越桔干 in you inventory you get a dialogue option to feed it, which will add the 利爪雏龙 to your journal. The 失怙的利爪龙 immediately despawns.

~~It does not seem to matter who kills the 利爪龙后, you just have to be the first to talk to the 失怙的利爪龙.~~

Update:
The 失怙的利爪龙 is a personal spawn. If you were present while the 利爪龙后 died, your 失怙的利爪龙 will spawn and nobody else sees it or can take it away from you.

You can also get multiple 利爪雏龙. A new 失怙的利爪龙 will spawn for you each time you are present when the 利爪龙后 dies.

just killed matriarch, no orphan has spawned. sadness. they might've moved it's coords when they hotfixed it just now so that falcosaurs spawn more frequently

The orphan is still on the cliff right behind the matriarch at 47.1,10.5 as of just now. At first I was not able to see the spawn even though several people told me it was right there. I tagged the matriarch the next time she spawned and I was able to see the orphan that time. Correlation isn't always causation, but they may have made it so you have to tag her to see it now. We also didn't kill the nest that was spawned with her. Again, don't know if that has anything to do with it, but those are the conditions that allowed me to see the orphan.

So wait for her nest to spawn too, don't kill it, tag her and have the berries in your pack. Hope that helps everyone else!

Orphaned sharptalon doesn't seem to be spawning. Have seen many matriarch kills in the last hour with no spawn.

Some more, unfortunately inconclusive, information.

Went to the Sharptalon spot in Val'shara. This is my second world quest for the Falcosaurs. Went straight to the Matriach, killed her, no orphan.

Completed the world quest and went back to the spot, no orphan.

Matriach had already spawned when I got there, killed her, and the orphan spawned.

Had the necessary berries in my bag.

I had already completed the Snowfeather world quest in Highmountain but saw no orphan. I decided to go back to the orphan's spot, killing the matriach on the way and there he was. A couple of hours after I completed the world quest.

It's not a confirm of course but, maybe you need to complete the world quest and THEN kill the matriach and then you'll see the orphan.

This beast is TINY- I never really even saw it. I could see it on my mini-map (hunter tracking) and I just scrolled over the right area until the chat interaction bubble popped up. Also it doesn't seem to have a nameplate, even with friendly nameplates turned on.
You may have to finish the world quest before it will spawn- 1st time I killed matriarch nothing popped up, 2nd time my quest completed and then it spawned. 47.1, 10.6 Don't forget your bilberries!

I found way how to make orphan spawn if it doesnt after you kill Matriarch. Did that method on Bloodgazer and Sharptalon already and it does work .

Steps :
Step 1: Wait Matriarch to spawn then kill her.
Step 2: Check Orphan spawn location. If its not there go to Step 3.
Step 3: Get out of World Quest zone and Relog out of zone .
Step 4: Get Back to Orphan spawn points it should be there.

The 利爪龙后 must be killed for the chance to spawn the small pet.

After the Sharptalon Matriarch has been killed you can check to see if the pet has spawned.

/dump IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44881)

Another alternative to check the status.

If the quest flag check returns 'False' you will need to kill her again the next time she respawns. If it returns 'True' you are good to go. Coordinates below; formatted for TomTom users. The quest ID codes for the small pets are 44879, 44880, 44881 and 44882 respectively.

Do not forget to save or purchase 越桔干 from 菲娅拉·甜莓 in Dalaran or other NPCs listed under the item.

Update: For what it's worth, it took me four kills before the quest returned true and the 失怙的利爪龙 spawned for me to loot the 利爪雏龙. Another important note, I was alone for each one of the kills. Not certain if it is truly a personal loot table with some phasing issues or just completely random. The only thing for certain is that the small pet is not guaranteed unless the quest check above responds as true.

Update 2: Some have claimed the quest flag remained false but they could see and interact with the small pet. The caveat is that this was only possible if a group of players downed the Matriarch and at least one person received credit for the hidden quest.

As of Patch 7.1 there are 4 new Falcosaur pets. Each of the pets is associated with a different world quest around the Broken Isles. These pets all provide a quest chain to obtain a different mount. These quest chains require a couple of weeks to complete as each subsequent quest becomes available from your summoned pet after the daily reset after completing the previous quest.

To get each pet, you must first kill the Matriarch in the world quest area, which will cause the NPC version of the pet to spawn. The next step is to go to the NPC and interact with it and feed it its favourite food. If you don't have the food, you won't obtain the pet. There are vendors selling the required foods at the closest flightpaths to each world quest for most of these so just remember to pick some up on your way there!

Important note on orphans: I've encountered issues with the orphans not spawning after killing the matriarch. This isn't affected by the matriarch's nest but it does seem to be affected by getting the last hit on the matriarch. If you can't see the orphan after killing the matriarch then you may need to wait for the respawn. To check if you have completed the requirements to see the orphan run the scripts below.

This pet can be picked up from 失怙的雪羽龙 in Highmountain (/way Highmountain 32.5, 28.2) after killing the 雪羽龙后 (/way Highmountain 35.1, 21.9). The food it wants is 烟熏大角鹿肉, which can be picked up from 马瑞斯·魔灾 (/way Highmountain 29.8, 40.0).
Summoning this pet offers you the quest 雪羽雏龙饲养员 which starts the quest chain to obtain 雪羽猎龙.

This world quest is somewhat awkward to get to but I recommend coming in from Highmountain (glider from a high point in the north-west or water walking around from the coast). The food it wants is 越桔干, which can be picked up from 菲娅拉·甜莓 in Dalaran (/way Dalaran 52.6, 34.4) - there are a variety of vendors in Highmountain who also sell the item should you choose to get to the world quest from there.
Summoning this pet offers you the quest 养育你的利爪雏龙 which starts the quest chain to obtain 翠绿利爪龙.

So annoyed, working my way up to the Matriarch and then killing her completed the quest for me. So if this happens to you, too; you won't see the Orphaned Sharptalon. Is the last one I need, also :(

Edit: Nevermind! I killed her again, ran up the hill and the little guy was there waiting. I must have missed him completely the first time I went there but he's mine now, yay!

Forgot the Dried Bilberries? And it spawned? You can fly to Thundertotem, get the berries and come back; it will be there waiting for you.
NB: the berries aren't sold in Felbane Camp or Witchwood.

Found this Sharptalon at 47, 10.4 in val'sharah doing the world quest to slaughter the sharptalons. Quickly searched for this on wowhead and found out you need to use 越桔干 to be able to complete a quest that I guess we could say is hidden.

Can confirm you can logout and in and the orphaned sharptalon will remain. I did this to relog to an alt, purchase the required berries send them to my main character. relogged to my main used my 移动邮箱 to get the berries and was able to complete the quest.

Picked up this little guy today!
1. Working on the Sharptalon Swarm! world quest
2. Killed the matriach who is up higher on the mountain (see other posts about waypoints)
3. Orphaned Sharptalon spawned a little bit away from the body of the matriach, on a small knoll/hill. He is yellow. Didn't have dried berries on me - hearthed to Dalaran, picked them up and flew back to Highmountain. He was still there and when I clicked on him, the option to eat berries popped up and then he was in my pet journal. Summoned him and he had the quest marker on him. Woot!

To be honest, I feel bad. We go there, kill this little fella's whole family and then we adopt them, just to make them fight for us? Feels so wrong and I don't even see much harm with these birds based on this pet's description. :(

How to get your own ankle bitter lol or the Sharptalon Hatchling

This is what I did :D I had the quest for Val and I had some of the Dried Bilberries, which can be picked up from Fialla Sweetberry New Dal :D I killed the Matriarch went to 47, 10.4 barely even saw the little guy lol and I clicked him feed him the barries and summoned him after I added him to my collection . He gives you a quest and wants you to level him to 25 LMAO - Good luck !

If you can't see any of the Hatchlings after pre Patch 8.0 enable War mode and return.

Some stuff seems to be broken and phased without War mode on at the moment.

If the orphan is not showing up, LOOT THE MATRIARCH.
The scrip /script print(IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(44881)) was giving me false even after 10 Matriarch kills.
Once I looted it, bang, true and there was the little ugly dinosaur waiting for his fruits.
