5.1 PTR Patch Notes (

)
Players will have a very small chance to obtain a general purpose Flawless Battle-stone after winning a match against wild pets; defeating higher level opponents increases the chances of obtaining a stone. These valuable items are not soulbound, and can be sold on the Auction House.
This can be used to upgrade any pet to Rare quality. Probably best used to upgrade BOE vendor or item drop pets with unique movesets, but could be worth upgrading a non-Rare version of a rare spawn pet (
邪焰

小猩猩
for example).

Keep in mind that not all Rares are created equal. Every battle pet has a BreedID that changes it's stat makeup. (Check out:
this calculator
(
Wowhead forums
) by
Warla
) to check your pet's BreedID and stat makeup of your pets.
I've noticed that a lot (almost all) of the achievement/quest/one time only pets are of one of the superior BreedID (+2 to the base stat for their focus) so because of this a
飞毛腿
and
加布林
might be superior to a version with an identical moveset that you catch yourself, once a battle stone is applied to it.

One thing that's going to rock the world (of warcraft) (of pokemon) with the advent of these stones is that hunting for the pokemon you want will no longer be about getting your rare. If you're really going to
use
the thing, it makes no sense
not
to waste a battle-stone on it. No way no how is it ever again going to be about getting your rare.
It's going to be about finding your perfect
build
.
For example, let's take
Snow Cub
. For the sake of brevity (and because it changes once you capture them) I've omitted HP.
The builds you can get in Rare are the 12/12 balanced build, the 11/11 tanky build (WORTHLESS!), and the 13/10 attacky build. (Same for all Cat-types, by the way, though they do vary
slightly
at level 25.)
The 13/10 build is the most desirable. First because attack is just that much more valuable, and secondly because attack influences how much you heal with Devour (so as a Cat-type, you want Attack that much more; though I personally prefer using the balanced build, it isn't the factually best one; I've tested it and you'll do more damage just using Claw with an attacky one than you would using the balanced build and struggling with Pounce and Screech to get the first shot; just take Claw and Rake on the 13/10).
The attacky build is super-rare in Rare quality, but you'll get it almost every other time in the lower-quality catches. So just capture the 12/10 Uncommon and waste a battle-stone. It's annoying, but you get the 11/11 build (most worthless) in Rare quality most often. Skip them, capture an Uncommon with the
right
build, and battle-stone it. This logic applies pretty universally to types other than Cat. It's just that what you want and why can change. (Speed, for example, suddenly becomes valuable on birds because you can actually count on going first consistently with their ability.)

Ok, all this discussion about how to choose which pet to upgrade is great, but after that is all figured out I had a bit of trouble figuring out how to actually use the dang stone. It seems to me that there should be some option through the pet menu to use it, but here is how it works.
1. Choose the pet to upgrade.
2. Click the summon button in the bottom left corner of the pet menu.
3. Right click the stone in your bags.
4. Click the glowing cursor on the pet standing next to your character that you summoned.
Hopefully this helps someone.

In addition to the uncommon quality only pets from quest rewards, vendor, ect. these in conjunction with
抛光战斗石
will make for great sanity savers in the cases of the highly camped pets (
迷你地狱火
) or zone wide rare spawns (

).

Maybe someone can answer my question. If I upgrade a lvl 25 pet with the Battle Stone from Uncommon to Rare will it's stats be changed or is it better to catch a low lvl Rare and lvl it to 25?
What I'm trying to understand is if you level a lvl 1 Rare to lvl 25 will it's stats be the same as a lvl 25 Poor/Common/Uncommon upgraded with the Battle Stone?
Also, are there different versions of a Rare pet with different stats? For example two Rare lvl 25 Adders with different Attack or Speed etc.?
I've been reading a few forums but I still can't understand what is worth doing. I hate farming for pets but I really like to have them in Rare quality. It will save alot of time if you can just catch a Poor/Common/Uncommon and have the same result at lvl 25 with a Battle Stone upgrade.
TY in advance.

Found this info on the official WoW Forums, all credit for the data go to Avengener@Barthilas:
Results of Opening 160x Sack of Pet Supplies hoarded from pre-5.1
Flawless Beast Battle-stone x2
Flawless Elemental Battle-stone
Flawless Magic Battle-stone
Flawless Mechanical Battle-stone x4
Flawless Flying Battle-stone x2
Flawless Undead Battle-stone x3
Flawless Critter Battle-stone
Flawless Aquatic Battle-stone x2
--------------------------------
Pet battle bandage x273
Fetch ball x 166
Happy pet snack x 51
Magical Mini-treat x 74
Magical pet biscuit x 58

So, thats 16x stones found off of 160x sacks, that puts your chance of getting a battle stone squarely at 1 in 10 (assuming this data is perfect, which it is not, but it is probably close!)

I received this Battle-stone after catching a rare in the Hinterlands two nights ago - I have no idea if there's any connection. I had pet battled most of the night at least 100 battles and it only dropped once. I used it on my common Minfernal, since I knew it would have been a pain to catch a rare Minfernal.
Tonight I received a Flaweless Beast Battle-stone from a pet battle with a common Restless Shadeling, so in that case catching a rare wasn't required. That's two stones that's dropped so far for me since the patch.

Got one of these the first day of 5.1 and had been listing it everyday on the AH. Finally sold it for 7,500gold. Not sure if that is more or less than what it goes for on most servers. But I know it doesn't have a search filter yet, so that may effect the time it takes to sell one.

At first I wasn't getting these at all, just assumed they're exceptionally rare. However started to mass level some pets today and my team consist of a very low level pet (sub lvl10) a lvl20-21 pet and a lvl23-24 pet, I then only targeted lvl25 pets to battle.
With my Safari hat on I spent about 4hrs levelling my pets this way today. I've had 3 stones drop. It doesn't matter the quality of the battle pet you're fighting, two of the stones dropped from a battle group of three poor quality pets.
The key is your chances of getting these stones increase when you battle higher levels so if you make sure all your pets are lower then the target group you might find the stones drop for you more often then using a group with maxed out pets.
I've had other specific class stones (e.g the Critter flawless stone, the mechanical flawless stone) drop out of the daily bags, I've only ever gotten the
无瑕战斗石
from battling wild pets.

Since drop rate scales with opponent level, the best place to farm these would be Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Most of the pets in this zone are water typed, with a few flying, so bring flying and magic attacks to counter them.
I've been leveling two pets at a time and switching to
Fledgling Nether Ray
if necessary since it has both magic and flying moves available.

Not sure if there was a connection but I wanted to see if anyone else had found this:
I have had 3 type-specific battle stones drop for me, a mechanical one from a bag of pet supplies and two others that dropped after a battle:
1st. Whilst farming the humanoid Kun-Lai Runt in Kun-Lai Summit I had a humanoid-type battle stone drop
2nd. Whilst battling a lowish level trainer (19 i think) I was using my uncommon (Dragonkin) Wild Crimson Hatchling and had a Dragonkin-type battle stone drop (Which was amazing as it was exactly what I was waiting for!)
Does the type of pet you are battling with (or against?) affect the type of battle stone that drops? It would be really good if this was the case in my opinion as you could begin levelling your not-rare battle pet and in doing so would be more likely to get the appropriate battle stone to upgrade it?
Again I have no idea if this is the case or if I just got very lucky, just wanted to see what other people had found.

I got one of these from an Oily Slime in Borean Tundra. Another poster mentioned it and I thought I'd give it a shot since I wasn't having any luck getting this stone and one dropped after not too many kills. If Nexus Whelplings also drop these, then Borean Tundra certainly looks like a pretty decent place to farm them.

A little tip for using any Battle-stone, since they are so rare..
Use them on pets you can not get as a blue, or on pets that are hard to get. For example:
Minfernal
Clockwork Rocket Bot
Sen'Jin Fetish
Using a Battle-Stone on say.. a
Zooey Snake
would be a bit of a waste since they are so common you could get a blue without the help of a Battle-Stone.
This Battle-Stone is the only one that is not soulbound, so if you are a patent person and would like to hold out for a soulbound specific stone to drop, these sell for quite a bit of gold on the auction house!

Some people don't understand how to actually use the stones.
This is actually quite simple. Summon the per you want to upgrade. Select the summoned pet by clicking on it and then use the Battle-Stone on the summoned pet, rather than the pet within the pet journal list.

For those curious, you can indeed use these stones on pets that aren't even allowed to battle, such at Guild Page, Herald, some of the kites, etc.
Let's just say I did it on purpose. Yes...indeed. I completely meant to turn my Guild Page rare! ... :(
The stats on the little guy went from 151 health to 155 health, and then both attack power and speed went from 10 each to 11. Sadly, even though he's now a rare lil' bugger, he doesn't offer better items OR even a discount! :)
EDIT: As of 6.2.3, this has no longer worked for quite a while. In fact, I lost my Guild Page that was rare since the guild I was in disbanded during a hiatus I took from WoW. When I joined a new guild to obtain them again, the Page and Herald were both green and the Page no longer rare. I don't think they went back and retroactively changed this for people who had done it, but rather the fact that I lost my guild removed the pets from my inventory, and when they were re-added, they were given anew as fresh pets. I know that similar things that used to be possible but no longer are possible, such as using leveling stones on pets that cannot battle...those were NOT retroactively fixed. For example, I have a Chi-Ji Kite and a K'ute that are level 2, both of which cannot battle. Yet, you can no longer use the battle stones on them, either, but those were NOT retroactively fixed.

I cut a bit out because its just going over the valor/justice resets coming in 5.2, but the important part is bolded! new pet battle stones to spend justice on! They didn't specify the type of pet battle stones being added in 5.2, but with the uncommon battle stone on the vendors already, i can't imagine how it could be anything other than this one. Anyways, fingers crossed guys :D.

Just picked up a Flawless Battle-Stone after a fight with a Nordrassil Wisp + friends in Hyjal.
To give this perspective, this was my 1,204th battle (you can track your wins in achievements).
So pretty darn rare. I was leveling up a Snowman and hitting the wisps for a higher chance of getting flawless magic stones, so i was also getting "difficult" experience which is reputed to help increase the chances of a stone dropping.
Even more perspective, I have to date acquired about ~6-8 stones from battle drops alone, gives people an idea of the ratio of after battle drops to # of total battles.
Hope this helps.

Pet battle stones are a pain the one that is not soulbound is the Flawles Battle-Stone
I say if you find this stone sell it in your realms ah.
The droprate of something like this seems to be maybe around 1 out of 10k pet battles at the lest maybe even more so the drop chance would be maybe 0.001% meaning your chances at this has got to be slim I found a lot of the other soulbound stones & at around 7k pet battles this sucker droped sold it for 100kg.
So This sucker solved all my gold needs.
It's nice finding this stone fine one sell fine one sell you be rich.
When I found it was not sure to use on my Mechonoid or maybe one of my other pets that I got from events of the year. If you ask me selling this sucker is well worth it due to its rare & gold is more needed then having some silly rare when you got some other strong power houses

Patch 5.2 -- I have received 2 of these in my bags in less than an hour using a level 13 Hopling to battle the Arcane Eyes in Deadwind Pass.. Pretty stoked, because they sell for thousands of gold on my server (Moon Guard,) although I'm contemplating keeping them for other pets. I'm not sure if they have some sort of drop rate attached to these battles..but I thought I would report this all the same! Also, I should note that I've gotten these after about 226 pet battles, roughly.

I started doing ALL the pet Battle dailies 7 days ago- (5 in the world, 7 in MoP and the 10 Beasts of Fable)
I have gotten 13 Flawless stones (the type that do only ONE style ea) so far from the prize bags ESP. the Beasts of Fable bag pays one every day almost-
I have 448 pets, 337 are rares, 27 are maxed now to 25 and in all that farming, leveling and time I have only gotten ONE of the Plain Flawless stone that can be used on any type pet-
I used mine because I didn't know just how rare they are, but I would say SELL IT because you'll get tons of the other ones if you do the dailies!

I found when deciding which pet to apply this to, to uncheck the filter for pets obtained through battle, since you can always keep battling pets untill a rare one spawns.
Also, I'm not sure if this is just my crazy luck, but I never seem to get the ones that upgrade specifically magic pets, so I tend to reserve these for magic types.
Also check if the pet can be caged before you use the rock on it, because a few times I've used the rock then saw I could have bought a rare one off the AH, that someone already used a rock on. So yeah, just have a peak on the AH before you rock a cagable pet.

If you don't have Rematch or
PetJournal Enhanced
, get one. They provide a a fairly easy way to filter down to your best candidates for using a stone, and is especially helpful when you have a family-specific stone.
Each has a Filter button, similar but not identical. My suggestion is:
Pet Families: limit to the family or families you want
Sources: check all except for Pet Battle
Miscellaneous: check all except Can't Battle
Quality: check just Uncommon (you shouldn't ever have a Poor or Common from a non-pet battle source)
Of course, you can use a stone on Poor or Common wild-caught pets. When I first wrote this comment back in 2013, these stones were much less common, so it generally made more sense to save them for pets that would only ever come as Uncommon, and look for naturally occurring rares for the wild-caught pets. Still possibly worthwhile to focus on Uncommon drop pets first before using them on wild-caughts.
If this doesn't show you any candidates, then at the top of the Filter box also check Not Collected to see what pets you still need to acquire that would match the criteria.
Edit: added Recount, which is what I personally have been using preferentially since Shadowlands.

So many comments here are about the stones in general. But this item is very different in that it can be used on any pet, and most importantly, this stone is not BOP... which means you can sell it on the AH.
Depending on your ability to get TCG pets.. this is a great item to sell on the AH and probably make enough to buy 2 TCG pets on the AH or BMAH. I had a hard time justify using on a pet when the other stones are not crazy rare and this stone sells for so much on the AH.

The reason that these stones are valuable is as follows.
1. They upgrade any pet to rare regardless of its family. The family specific stones work great, if you have the one you want. This is not easy. After opening many many bags, i've never gotten an undead one. Other folks have gotten ten undeads and no dragons. It's all luck. You could be there a long long time waiting for your stone to drop to upgrade your pet, but with this stone, there's no waiting. it's great. These stones should not be used unless you know what you are doing. Do not be hasty and just use it on something that looks cool.
2. These stones are so rare and valuable that they should be saved until you have a pet worthy of this upgrade.
If you pet battle, you're going to get family specific stones, so I wouldn't worry about upgrading pets that can only be rare through a stone upgrade, or pets that have "unique move sets". Those are fine enough reasons to upgrade, but not nearly a good enough reason to use this kind of stone to do it. Use family specific stones for that. Trust me, everyone's Baby Blizzard Bear will someday be rare. Enough stones drop for this to happen.
So what you should really do is use this on a pet that is the right breed first off. Do not waste this on the crappy version of your pet. I'll give the best possible example. The Flayer Youngling. The Flayer Youngling is an awesome pet, but it has 10 BREEDS!
I'll let that sink in.
That means that one of every ten RARES will be the one you want. Unless you want to spend a Time lost proto drake's amount of time killing these things, then you have no choice but to use a stone to upgrade the breed you want. One in every ten will be the right breed. It's much easier to get the right breed and upgrade it.
Other pets with alot of breeds include the sporeling sprouts, shale hatchlings, etc.
Now some pets are so rare like the minfernal and the scourged whelpling, that getting one of any quality is an acheivement. Always tame as many as you can in the hopes that one will have the right breed and you can upgrade it.
I tamed a scourged whelpling a few months ago. It was poor. I got this stone out of a pvp pet battle, and upgraded the pet. Turns out that it's not the best breed and is inferior to Scourged whelplings of the high power breed. So my pet is slightly inferior, but I did it anyways because I don't have 100 years to spend going and finding another one, or waiting for an undead stone.
Choose carefully and good luck.

............oops.
I finally figured out how to use this damn thing. I was clicking on it - going to the Battle Pet list - clicking on that and all manner of trying to make it work and nothing worked.
So finally - after wandering around Everlook - trying to raise my core team to lvl 19, I ran across an Anodized Robo Cub. After capturing it and summoning it as a companion - I clicked on the stone (not knowing it would instantly activate the rare quality) and bam. RARE Anodized Robo Cub.
I guess it's cool to have a rare one (even though they aren't really a "mechanical" pet due to their beastly attacks) - but sucks because I lost out on the money I could have got in the AH.
Oh well - so because no one ever explained it - let me do that for those who might make the same mistake:
If you get the stone - to ACTIVATE it - you need to summon the desired battle pet as a companion and THEN the stone will turn it into a rare battle pet for you instantly upon clicking it. Make SURE this is the battle pet you want to turn RARE because it's an instant cast.

It's worth noting that there are 2 versions of this item, despite only 1 being listed here on Wowhead. While the stones that are obtained through battles or bags are non-bound and can therefore be sold on the AH or traded to other players, the version you obtain by trading 3 family specific stones at the battle pet trainer in SW/Org is BOA.

You CAN farm a specific type of Battle-Stone by battling pets of that same type. While you may occasionally receive some other type of stone, you definitely have a higher chance of receiving an aquatic stone by fighting aquatic pets, for example. I kept reading people say that the type of battle pet you fight has nothing to do with the type of Battle-Stone you receive, and that it's completely random. My experience had shown that not to be true, so I decided to do some testing and post my results in case anyone wanted to farm for a specific type of Battle-stone.
Battling Aquatic pets (which have 3 aquatic pets about 50% of the time, and 2 aquatic/1 flying about 50% of the time.) My results: 178 battles = 6 Aquatic stone, 1 Flying stone, 1 Humanoid stone
Battling Flying pets (which have 3 flying pets about 50% of the time, and 2 flying/1 aquatic about 50% of the time.) My results: 142 battles = 3 Flying stone, 1 Aquatic stone, 1 Critter stone, 1 Flawless Battle-Stone (which can be used on anything)
Battling Critter pets which usually have all Critters, and occasionally have a Beast in the group. My results: 96 battles = 3 Critter stone, 1 Beast stone
As you can see, it would appear that you can indeed farm a certain kind of stone. Just find an area where you want to level your lowbie pets that has the type of critters consistent with the stone you need the most of (usually Beast, Flying or Critter, since these types have the most pets that cannot be obtained above Uncommon quality.) Also, remember that if you've got one or two stones of a type you don't need, you can farm the additional one(s) to make 3, and then trade them in for a Marked Flawless Battle-Stone that can be used for any pet. Good luck!

I didn't know how rare these were. A few friends are calling me "lucky". I just started doing pet battles 2 weeks ago and I have/had three just from random loot after pet battles.
As of yet, I have not received a pet family specific battle-stone.

After extensive pet battling in different areas I believe I have figured these things out. They only come from wild pet battles and the higher level the pets you fight the better chance you have at getting one. I leveled about 15 pets from 1 to 25 in three days killing nothing but the wild pets who spawn around No - No in the Vale ( I choose them cause two of their moves are not instant attacks so a level 1 can tag them and then be switched out without dying easily for full XP, normally it goes from level 1 to 6 in one battle ) And I got, 10 of these stones. I have been selling them one at a time on the AH for about 3k gold each and it's awesome.
The reason I believe the level of the pets matter is because I battled and trained ALOT off pets and never came across one of these things until I started killing nothing but level 23 - 25. These stones and my farming method for them has actually made me a decent chunk of change. It could all be luck though, so I wish the best of luck to everyone. :D

2 Flawless Battle-Stone in a row after normal Pet Battles. How big is the chance?

Since
AMIB
hasn't been around for more then a year, I would like to continue the trend and I've finished the other pet types:
Beast
Critter
Dragonkin
Flying
Humanoid
Magic
Mechanical
Undead
For those that didn't read
AMIB's post
, these are lists of uncommon-only pets, with if available, alternate pets with the same type and moveset that can be obtained as rare without using a Battle-Stone.

apparently there was a ninja hotfix on these stones which removed the level reduction on higher level pets somewhere between 13.03.2015 - 15.03.2015 : the stone I used on 13.03 reduced 2 levels on the given pet and the one on 15.03 didnt

As of 2015.07.24, Battle-Stones are not working on pets that cannot battle. They now give an "Invalid target" message instead :/

Can these even drop from regular wild pet battles anymore?

Surprisingly received one today while power leveling in Highmountain (Legion trainer Odrogg) . I'd guess the drop rate is super low as I've done 100+ battles and only received one of these.

Just a quick note to let everyone know you can start a class trial, and (for Alliance characters at least) you can do the Human, Draenei and Kul Tiran orphans in one go and select the reward
宠物照料包
, then mail the stone/s to your main char. Delete the trial character, rinse and repeat. Mind out as you can only do this 8 times per week (currently).

I received one of these in Revendreth from looting a "Dirty Glinting Object" during the Calling quest (aka the Shadowlands equivalent to the Legion and BfA Emmisary quests) called "Training Our Forces" from the Venthyr Covenant.
Was a fun surprise to loot a Flawless Battle-stone. I've only ever come across the account-bound type before. :)
Wasn't sure they were even still in the game until today!
--------------------------------
Additional details for anyone interested:
This quest gave me a dredger trainee zone companion named Drippy that stays with you in the zone as a "buff" until you complete the quest.
Every five minutes or so after combat, Drippy will say in chat, "Dredged up somethin' interesting over here, boss," and a "Dirty Glinting Object" will appear on the ground nearby and sparkle like dead mobs that haven't been looted yet.
If you right click the Dirty Glinting Object, your character completes a cast to loot it.
It can contain a wide variety of items including food and potion consumables, jewelcrafting gems (cut and uncut), several different types of battlestones, a teleport consumable, and even a pet.
With only a handful of exceptions, everything that can be looted from Dirty Glinting Object is from Shadowlands content.
(Side trivia: when you grab this quest in the Venthyr Covenant Sanctum, the quest giver Sakaa makes a 'Kermit the frog sipping Lipton tea' meme reference in the quest text, also known as the "But That's None of My Business" meme)

You will need to summon the pet then use the stone on them when they are out as your summoned Companion.

A word of warning, if you use these battle-stones while targetting a summoned battle pet and your pet journal is locked by another wow account that is also logged on from the same battle.net account the stone will get used up and nothing will happen to the pet quality.
