Anyone have info on where might be best to farm for rugged?

This is best grinded from skinning monstrous plaguebats, and frenzied plaguehounds, grind them for a hour at level 70 and you will get loads of rugged leather, rugged leather has the worst possible ah price of any leather, even the new knothide leather costs less, rugged goes for more tahn 20g for a stack, so grind in epl and you won't have problems.

Another great source – also in Eastern Plaguelands – is Terrordale in the north-western corner of the region and the Plagued Swines that wanders the village. They have a high drop rate and respawn much faster than bats and hounds. I recommend doing "laps" aroung the village as the locations of the swines somewhat forms a track which allows you to go round and round. At level 70, finishing a "lap" took about the same time as it took for the boars to respawn, which is great cause it allows for continous killing and makes your farming very efficient.
But watch over your shoulder every now and then though, cause there's a level 60 elite spider patrolling the village.

I would suggest Yeti cave in Winterspring too. I needed 4 stacks of rugged leather for my alt, and i went there with my 70 hunter. I cleared the cave and the outside a couple of times, and I got 4 stacks in about 30 minutes.

If you are below lv. 46 and still need Rugged Leather, you can trail others who are grinding, and skin when their done. Of course, you should ask first, but most people don't mind if they are not planning on skinning.

The reason why I don't prefer the Winterspring yeti is because they have the tendency to block freeze in melee. I've even been frozen shortly after I stunned them (druid pounce), which could be a bug. Either way, this breaks the rhythm.
The Winterspring shardtooth bears (especially elder) are great alternatives and are easier to kill in melee because they don't freeze or give diseases or anything like that.

I farmed these even up to the lvl 60s cause by then they were one or two shotted. Got several stacks in under 30 minutes. The Winterspring Yeti's are good, but don't go down as easy as these guys so it take a little more time unless you're 63+.

South east of Everlook. (67, 42)
Also, I too farmed here as lvl 60 Hunter and easily skinned 2 stacks in 30 minutes. Added bonus: picking up the skins from downed Yetis by the Bots!

Another thing you could do is just farm Ruined Leather Scraps and make them - you'd only need to farm 2160 Ruined Leather Scraps for one of these.

As a UD LW rogue, yeti rock big time. You can loot 'em, eat 'em then skin 'em! Plus one dropped Dark Pahntom Cape, which is always nice :)
Did this at 60 having done a few Outland quests to get some BC armour and weapons, which made the whole thing very easy. Needed the leather to level my LW from 290 to 300 and got the 120 needed in under an hour.

A very useful money maker these, used in a couple of tailoring recipes that form part of the powerleveling guide as well as the leatherworking guide.
And i'd reccommend the Yeti Cave. Went through it as a rogue leveling, nice couple of greens to sell, skinning and you could get up a nice tempo of killing and skinning your way through them. As noted above they respawn pretty fast as well. And the only quest i've found that requires these being killed has a very low drop rate, so you should only have to contend with other skinners for these mobs.

The yetis in winterpring are the best, hands down. Also worthy of Noting that YETIS ARE NOT BEASTS. well, they might be but they DONT DROP THOSE ANNOYING GRAY IETMS THAT ANIMALS DO! no more paws, bones, bosy parts. they only drop coin and greens. Useful for powerlevelling skinning 275-300. All your spots will be used for Rugged Leather, and thats why these yetis are my #1 spot.

Yetis in Feralas will also drop it if you skin em.
Also, the gorillas can.

I tried something not mentioned here yet and found it to be rather efficient. I went to the blue dragon cave in Winterspring, Mazthoril, as a 70 druid. The elite dragons in and around the cave are terribly easy to kill as a 70, yield decent silver (about 15-20 silver per mob on average), grey vendor weapons worth 1-2g, and are very plentiful.
I just kept clearing the cave, and I found that the vast majority of the elite dragons skinned dropped 2 pieces of rugged leather each, with the occasional blue dragon scale or worn dragon scale. Very few of them dropped only 1 piece, and even fewer of them dropped thick leather. The norm was 2 ruggeds per mob. I farmed SEVEN STACKS - 140 pieces - in about 45 minutes. I'd HIGHLY recommend the dragon cave if you're a higher level, as it yielded great amounts of rugged leather, no one else was around, and it was very easy to plow through them.
I tried the yeti cave, and personally, based on my experience, I believe the dragon cave nets much more rugged leather, much faster. Hope this helps!
Oh, and if you're also a miner, there's always a rich thorium node or two in the cave.
And if you happen to also be a tailor, I always see the BOP Pattern: Robe of Winter Night (
http://www.wowhead.com/?item=14493
) drop.

Hello, just want to tell all the prot pallies out there that if your a protection paladin or another aoe class at 70, then you should not go to the yeti cave for farming rugged leather, there is a better place. check it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDtssm6vAdE
go dire maul north resets and aoe the dogs right in the beginning of the instance, my routine also takes the boss in the same pull.
about 40 rugged leather in 5 mins, they often drop 2 leather per dog but isn't even elite.
hope it was helpful!

HANDS DOWN for a 70+ i would say Dire Maul North...
Just inside the instance there are TONS of
dogs
that you can kill and skin.. and when done... exit and reset... viola you have a lot of rugged leather... i get about 2-3 stacks per clear... 10 min clear max... so in an hour that's 18 stacks or so....
AND since its your instance NO COMPETITION!
*Edit grammar and info below*
Also, another great thing is while you're there you can easily farm runecloth or green BoE's that have a good chance of disenchanting for
Greater Eternals
... Which usually sell rather well...

It has to be unanimously Terrordale in Eastern Plaguelands Plagued Swine drop it like mad and since they're neutral you can slag one without taking on two or three at a time. And if you're fortunate enough to be able to stealth through the other guys... it'll be only a short while before you are rolling in your rugged leather clothes on your rugged leather carpet in your rugged leather house.

I found that farming in the Mazthoril cave in winterspirng is one of the best areas to farm for Rugged leather. From the cave opening to the bottom of the cave and back I was able to gather the following in about 20 minutes.
52 Rugged Leather
19 Thick Leather
14 Blue Dragon Scales
9 Worn Dragonscales
3 Thick Hides
2 Rugged hides
4 Wicked Claws
2 Green Drops
11 gold 28 silver worth of cash and vendor trash.
I did this on Level 70 Rogue with Green and Blue gear. Only one Dragon in the cave can see through invis and he is all the way at the bottom. Level 60 Elite dragon named Scryer. he is misleading and is quite tough. I killed all the elites and the packs of whelps. This was a full clear.

Above is correct, Dire Maul North is ABSOLUTELY the best place to farm rugged leather if you're high enough to trivialize the content. I spent about 1-1.5 hours in here on an 80 prot warrior clearing the first two rooms of dogs and resetting, and got something like 300 rugged leather along with a smattering of rugged hides and thick leather. Don't even bother farming anywhere else, especially if you can AOE.

Well I have to agree with the Winterspring yetis being perfect. I don't know what went on with the earlier poster saying they didn't get any rugged. I ran through there with my 72 (at the time) druid and have 4 1/2 stacks in about 30 minutes. And since my LW was pretty low I could even use the thick leather to make some things and skill up. In addition to the leather I also got 2 14 or 16 slot green bags, I cant remember the name of them but it was great, used them to replace some of my old bank bags :)
Edit: Also, auctioneer addon says that Rugged Leather is sold by 1 vendor for 4g a stack... has anyone seen this vendor anywhere?

I'll add my vote for DM North as well. Grabbed my gorilla and killed the mastifs in the courtyard areas a few times and came out with ~200 rugged leather.
**Also, if you find yourself in need of repairs or running low on bag space from picking up junk, you can run down the hall just off the first courtyard and sell/repair there.

I found the elite blue dragonkin in Azshara very nice for farming this leather. They seem to have a fairly good drop rate for skinning 1-2 rugged leather PLUS since the are elite, they drop a nice bit of silver and seem to drop quite a few greens. There is also the chance to get the Azure Whelpling, which can go for quite a bit on the AH, or is pretty cute if you want to keep it.
Edit: It took me about 3 hours to farm the 17 stacks of leather that I needed on a 71 Hunter in mostly greens. In this time i also managed to get:
~40 Blue Dragonscale
~40 Worn Dragonscale
1 BoE Epic
1 Boe Blue
1 Azure Whelpling
16 Rugged Hide
8 Thick Hide
A bunch of greens/patterns/gems
A bunch of grey weapons to vendor
And about 50g off the dragons themselves
Note: there was also a bit of Thick Leather which I just turned into Rugged as I got it.

If you're a leatherworker (and you're more interested in leveling your profession than to simply sell the leathers) I would suggest to farm these from the scorpids in Silithius. From them you can obtain at the same time the Heavy Scorpid Scales, that along with Rugged Leathers are used to make
these bracers
, the best way to level your Leatherworking from 255 to 280 and so.

fairly quick drops off of the furbolgs in winterspring. Theres a tunic too, and some gloves that you can buy off the vendor "Qia" in Everlook.
Just take a couple trips around Frostsaber rock until you either A. Have enough rugged leather to get to 300 with trainer stuff, or B. Have enough rugged and frostsaber leather to get to 300. Because I've farmed this place a bit and neither one happens more.

I believe that the best place to farm for rugged leather (Along with scales for dragonscale leatherworkers) is at the cave in Mazthoril where almost all the elites (level 54ish) are easily soloable and they drop 2x rugged leather all the time. That's the place I usually grind for rugged leather.

As a level 80 rogue who didnt level up his Lw ive started to try and get 2 450 in it. So i needed some rugged leather. At 20g a stack on my server i thought it was better to farm for it. So i went to the ice thistle cave in winterspring and farmed for 1 hour. In this hour i got 129 rugged leather, 44 thick leather, Health pots and two greens.
So overall i think this is great place to get rugged leather.

I have to agree that if your high enough dire maul north is the place to go. Can only reset 5 times before Blizz stops you from entering but in those 5 runs I got 160 Rugged Leather in about 20 minutes. Most of the mobs dropped 2 pieces each.

tried terrordale and DM north.
Terrordale - Swine are a good source but don't respawn fast enough. Had to search around the "village" for them too.
DM North is the best.
Simply run straight in, go down the ramp, kill the hounds which yields usually 1.5 stacks, run out, reset, rinse and repeat. Hounds drop 1-2 rugged leather, rarely 1-2 thick leather, hides, and wolf leather or something of the sort.
NOTE: you do need the crescent key to get in (unless you can pick locks)

Couldn't disagree more. Plaguelands is 1, a pain of a flight to get to from almost anywhere, and 2, a bit of a ride to get up into that corner. I'm farmin Azshara, the blue dragon kin 'lites almost always drop rugged leather and sometimes 2. When it's not that it's blue dragonscales, which gets snapped up on the AH on my server. Also got more than one loc with the dragonkin so easy to pass the respawn flippin between the two and still be gatherin.

Agreed.
Farmed 160 Rugged Leather in Terrordale in 1h 20min.
No interruptions, fast respawn, a few other mobs easy to avoid (plus, they're lvl 56, so they probably won't aggro).
Great for me, as Rugged Leather Stacks go for 40g on Lethon.

Something else to watch out for around Terrordale is the Cursed Mages. They slap Tainted Mind on you which reduces your intellect by 20% for 10 minutes. As an 80 enhanced Shaman that isn't a major problem but for a player leveling through their 50's it could turn into an issue depending on what class they are.

Go to the Yeti Cave in Winterspring at
67.41
. You can group these up really nicely considering the Matriarch's / Patriarch's have a sprint ability which helps keep them from sling-shotting back to their original position.
Start at the entrance and grab the first 4, you should be able to tag them all without having to run too far. From then on, you should be able to grab them in groups of 4-5 in each section with 1 group of x2 yetis near the beginning. Farmed for 45mins and was able to gather nearly 100 Rugged Leather and 60 Thick Leather (transmutable into Rugged Leather by LW'ers). Very low impact and, best of all, the yeti's (considering they are humanoid) drop silver and higher-value vendor items. Hope this helps...
EDIT: Thought I'd mention there is a pair of Thorium nodes in here.

I wanted to get my sham sham's leatherworking at 300 before he hit outland. I've been having problems getting this leather together. Tried the yetti cave in Winterspring, but it was slow at level 58 as was the swines in Terrordale.
After reading a few more posts I decided to try the Burning Steppes. The Terror Wing path is full of dragonkin which can be farmed. I'm farming them now as I type this and after about 10 minutes I have a stack of rugged. The mobs are 4~ levels or so below me meaning i can kill them alot faster with little down time.
If you are like me and wanting your proffessions finished before you get to Outland this would be a nice place for leather workers needing to farm that last bit of rugged leather.
Edit: I beleive some-one mentioned the respawn being rather slow.
I just cleared a small area and started to write this. After i went back the small area i had cleared out had respawned. And it couldn't of taken me 3 minutes or so to type this out.

Tested the Terrordale site with a level 65 feral druid. One timed hour of farming
Plagued Swine
got me:
Rugged Leather x 96 (average of 12min 30sec per stack)
Thick Leather
x 13
Rugged Hide
x 4
2g, 52s, 82c in sellable gray items (see below)
Out of rest bouns. (about 261 exp/kill)
Regardless of how much bag space you have, you'll run out of bag space. As with most skinning mobs, the swine drop a bunch of gray items that don't stack well. In this case
Large Boar Tusk
s and
Ivory Boar Tusk
s. When you run out of space, destroy the large ones and save the Ivory ones, as the Ivory vendor for 4.5 times more.
From
the alliance flight point
the ride to this site takes about seven minutes on a slow mount, five on a fast one. There's a patrol consisting of several elietes on the path in the vicinity of Plagewood. If you try to just ride by them, you'll likely get stunned then killed.
The eliete mentioned above is the
Nerubian Overseer
. He's soloable at 65, but it was pretty close, and not something I'd recommend. Fortunately, he stays in a cave to the north most of the time, and you practically have to stand inside him to pull aggro.
-------------------------------
I've now also tested the Ice Thistle Hills site, killing
Ice Thistle Yetis
,
Matriarchs
and
Patriarchs
in Winterspring. The best spot for these is in a cave. The entrance is at , and the ramp to that entrance is at , under a minute to the south from both the
Alliance Flight
and the
Horde Flight
. Once again, this was one hour to the minute of timed farming, and I got:
Rugged Leather x 106 (or an average of 11 min 20 sec per stack)
Thick Leather
x 64
Rugged Hide
x 11
Thick Hide
x 7
Pattern: Chimeric Leggings
Peerless Shoulders of the Eagle
Obsidian Band of the Gorilla
7g, 86s, 88c in direct money loot
Out of rest bonus again (exp varies, as there's a range of levels here)
The previous claims that these spawn faster than they can be killed is accurate, even when there's horde competition about. My suggestion is to do all the ones in the cave, run out, jump off the ramp, then kill your way back up. By the time you reach the entrance again, stuff will have started to respawn.

Dire Maul North is
the best
source for Rugged Leather. The courtyard at the beginning of the entrance has tons of mobs that drop up to 2 pieces of Rugged Leather at a time. I highly recommend this spot as I farmed about 240 pieces of leather in about 20 minutes.
The only problem is that you'll be locked out after the 5th instance reset but it'll make leveling your LW so much faster.

Just did 10 Rugged Leather runs in DM and thought I would tell you what I got for my "hard" work.
I did this with my 65 Deathknight
10 runs ~ 90mins
360 Rugged Leather (18 stacks)
50 Thick Leather (2½ stacks)
15 Rugged Hides
18 Runecloth
8 bop greens from the first boss ( you dont need to kill him if you dont want to, you can sneak past him)
2 bop blues from the same boss
1 boe green
Roughly 30g worth in junk (only toke up 8 bag slots as the hyenas only drop 2 kinds of junk)
Roughly 9000 xp from each run
And finally got my skinning skill to 390
DM north is by far the best place to gather Rugged Leather provided you are high enough level to solo the packs of 4-6 normal hyenas.

After farming the Yeti Cave in Winterspring for an hour or two a day I made these assumptions as to how long it would take to reach the desired amount of leather I needed.
In one clear of the entire cave and the 2 Yeti standing just outside of it I roughly calculated that I was skinning this much leather.(bear in mind this is simply a rough calculation and is not exact)
19-24 Rugged Leather
5-10 Thick Leather
1-5 Rugged Hide
I was also looting quite a lot of silver from these mobs roughly 1-6+ silver each kill which can greatly add up to earing around 30-50g when I will be completely done with my need for Rugged Leather. There is also a chance to earn BoE blues or even epics maybe but so far the most valuable thing I've looted off a Yeti are greys and Major/Superior Potions.
Well, hope this helps in any way and happy hunting giant ice bear...things. ^_^

Dire Maul was always skipped by my toons when levelling up, as by the mid-50s I was seriously gunning for 58 and getting to Hellfire Peninsula. Having only cleared it the once to get the achievement on my main, when my skinner decided to check the place out based on this thread, I thought I'd capture what's required to help others not so fluent with this instance.
1) Fly to Thalanaar, on the border of Feralas and Thousand Needles
2) Head West on the trail to Dire Maul. Once at Dire Maul, follow the huge ramp up towards the building complex
3) Avoiding ogres is trivial. Follow the wide corridor as it doglegs to the East, and then you arrive at a long corridor that runs East-West.
4) First mission is to hit up Dire Maul: East, as we need to kill a guy to get the Crescent Key for Dire Maul North.
5) Follow the corridor up to the Eastern end. A narrower corridor is on the North wall - follow it, it curves to the East again, ending in the instance entrance for Dire Maul: East. Zone in.
6) The guy who drops the Crescent Key is a small imp called
Pusillin
, but before you are able to kill him, he makes you play a rather irritating game of "chase". From where you are, looking ahead, you should see a large open area filled with trees, and an elevated surrounding area that is overrun with plants and warp elementals.
Be very careful not to fall down.
To get back up to the elevated platform is a
major pain
.
7) Start heading left, working your way around on the elevated platform to the northwest of the central tree area. Pusillin is a small imp, just like the warlock pet, but he
doesn't
show an exclamation mark over his head, even if you have low level quest tracking enabled. Instead, talk to him, and choose the speech option "Game? Are you crazy?"
8) Pusillin immediately scuttles off and will run a fair distance before he stops, namely the south part of the elevated platform. Chase after him, killing trash that you encounter as necessary. The trash is trivial at level 80, but they do tend to stray in packs across the platform, so some killing is necessary.
9) Pusillin starts off when you talk to him again, this time stopping at the northeastern corner of the platform.
10) Once again, Pusillin takes off, this time heading East into a narrow corridor with some stealth mobs. He stops again in a large room full of demons.
11) I quite like this next speech bubble: "DIE!". Pusillin scuttles off, heading to the right under a platform, with a ramp at the back that takes him up onto the platform itself. The last speech bubble makes him targetable, but he summons a few trash adds and casts a buff on himself that reflects spell damage.
12) Once dead, you can loot the Crescent Key, and retrace your steps back to the elevated platform. This time, work your way all the way around (via the South side) until you are back at the northwest corner, near where Pusillin began his annoying game of chase. Once again -
don't fall down!
13) Near where Pusillin started, you'll see an opening to the West, and inside there, there is an instance portal. This is actually a second entrance to Dire Maul: East, and by going through it, you are actually exiting the wing to rejoin the main game world. Go through.
14) Walk ahead through this short corridor, and turn to your right - you'll see a large open area with some hapless ogres and in the middle is a small PVP arena. Don't go into this arena, of course, but instead if you look further to your right, to the North, you will see a short ramp leading up to a colossal wooden door. Head towards this door.
15) When you get to the massive door, you'll note that it cannot be opened by the Crescent Key, but there is a small, normal-sized door off to the side that

16) Behind this wooden door is another instance portal - zone in to enter Dire Maul: North.
17) Immediately ahead of you in the lower, central part of the main area you are in will be many packs of

I farmed a lot of these on the Isle of dread, Feralas. There a lot of chimearas there. They are lvl 60 elite, which i beleive were used for the opening of AQ40. I killed them on my lvl 80 warlock without any difficulty.
To get to the middle of the isle, you have to get to the east shore. In about the middle of that shore you will see an opening to the middle of the island, at the map it's about on the D of "dreaD".
These mobs drop mostly 2 rugged leather each, which is quite a good drop rate, much better then in the yeti cave in winterspring, where i found only one a mob, and also a lot of thick leather in stead.
Once you killed them all, they take a while to respawn, say about 15 minutes. I combined this grind with my study. Every half an hour i logged in to kill them, then i studied for a bit more.

Dire Maul is by far the best place to farm rugged leather. You will need the Crescent Key in the East Court yard. Once you get that go to the north court yard, go down the first ramp on your left and you will see a lot of hyaenas. Farm them then leave and reset. There are other packs but you will have to kill more Mobs to get to them. Each run takes about 5-6min and you'll get about 35 or so leathers. If you can't solo Dire maul then then Yeti cave is your best bet. Clear all the Yetis outside the cave then clear the cave and all the yetis outside will have respawned, its a pretty fast respawn rate some of the yetis in the front cave had already respawned. The yeti cave just takes longer than Dire maul and you will also get thick leather at about 1 for every 3 rugged leather.

there are like 20-30 hyenas you can get quick in quick out only problem is that after few runs you get entered too many instances recently. Another great place to farm these is scholomance tho you need to clear bit thrash but you can disenchant greenies you get + you migth get
公式:附魔武器 - 生命偷取
. at schlomance the whelps drop great ammount of rugged :)
And last place if your unable to solo scholo or diremaul or just dont like the instance cap per hour.
Go rampage slay yetis at winterspring .

I farmed in the Yeti Cave in Wintersping, here are my results :
I farmed for
40 mins
(then my inventory was full) as a
lvl 60 feral druid
(need to get my leatherworking skill to 300 for the outland.)
I had
no regen time
(always full life, no mana break) and
no waiting time
because they respawn fairly quick and I'm only lvl 60. So that's
40 min of 100% pure farming non-stop
.
Here's what I got :
78
Rugged Leather
23
Thick Leather
5
Rugged Hides
4
Thick Hides
According to my records, you can get
117 Rugged Leather per hour
.
Each Yeti give one item upon skining, so
I killed 110
yeti that's
1.8 yeti per minute
(let's say 2)
So that's
1.3 Rugged Leather per minute
.
Hope it helps.

Best place I've found to farm these is Zul'Gurub. A level 80 should be able to rip the place up in no time, especially if you bring a friend, and just about every mob there drops 1-2 at a time (all the bats, snakes, tigers, panthers, etc). This was way faster than grinding out the leather on the Yeti's in Winterspring.

Definitely
Dire Maul North
. No contest. The yeti cave in winterspring is fine if you're not able to clear the packs in Dire Maul North yet, but definitely slower and annoying with the freezing effect.
Once you have your crescent key you can farm tons of rugged leather off the dogs in no time. Lots of times 2 rugged leather per skin. Other times 1. A lot less often getting Thick Leather or Hides. You will run into the "You have entered too many instances recently" thing after resetting it so much, but it's fine. Take a bit to do this whenever you want and it's massive money for little effort.
Only thing that sucks is sometimes Rugged Leather stacks sell for 20-30g on my server. But once those clear and it's a good time to sell them I can get 50-60g a stack usually. Putting 10-12 stacks on the AH each time = great money. ~600-720g each time I put them up. Right now I have about 20 more stacks in my bank I'm waiting to sell at the right time as well.

If you're like me and leveling up a worgen in the new expansion or you're a leveling skinner/LW, Winterspring is no longer the standard in rugged leather, due to the new cataclysm changes winterspring is just 50-55. I found the best place to finish leveling to 58 while getting enough rugged leather to get to at least 275 was Blasted Lands. There's neutral boars, felhounds (labeled as demons but they're still skinnable), Hyenas, and other beasts that are 55+ with higher droprates. Hope this helps!

Thick Hide X 4
Rugged Leather X 97
Rugged Hide X 11
Several greys also dropped and some random pots that are AHable.

it's simple.... for the best rugged leather drop rate as of 3/20/2011... farm the yeti's in wintersprings in and around the cave right by the town. I killed all the yetis outside the cave then went in and killed them inside... by that time the outside ones respawned rinse and repeat. I farmed them with my 85 boomkin all were 1 shotted
98 mins...
296 rugged leather
118 thick leather (6 thicks makes 1 rugged so I made about 20 more ruggeds with these)
misu drops including a purple lvl 49 staff and 3 lvl 50's blues
misu hides (rugged ..thick)
I am posting this for you guys because when I came here for information every post was wrong and I think those posters did it on purpose.
P.S I first tried the gorillas in Un'goro and they also dropped rugged but the rate is only about 3 or 4 in 10 kills they are good for thick leather and respawn quickly. anyways I hope this helps.

After a lot of searching and trying different hints from on here, I am surprised to say Dire Maul is where I hit pay dirt. It was great, I was thinking at first I might have come out there for nothing when I was seeing the low lvl of stuff. But if you look on your map at Dire Maul and go to the very back of the coliseums looking part (all the way north) the entrance there on the right.
Just go down in there to the pit and clear the hyenas. Very easy, not a lot of elites (lvl 45 and a easy 46 boss) it only took me like 10 minutes to kill, loot and skin all the hyenas. From one clear of just that pit I got as follows
Dire Maul 1 clear of just the pit (north down in the pit of Hyenas)
Rugged leather x29
Thick Leather x3
And of course random trash and a green or 2.
Almost all the hyenas skinned for 2 pieces of rugged leather. Then when done I just ran back out reset and wiped out the pit again. I would definitely say this is the place to go to farm rugged leather, very easy lvl 45 (not elite) mobs of the dogs, and a quick run right back out to reset and be able to do again and again.
And of course as always the great thing with an instance no competition or people stealing your kill/skins lol

By 1/4 run I mean I ran about 25% of the instance.
By bags were full with not just the leather, but greens and trash
I made 25g from the trash

Simple, the best place is Dire Maul - North. I had about 70-80 in one run, all dropping about 1-5 each. Not only are there hyenas at the first guard, but if you care to kill about 10 more ogres, there are just as many hyenas at the next boss, in the Courtyard. A single run takes like 5-10 min.

My experience in DM North: I cleared the 2 big courtyards, before resetting. Level 68 hunter, with the guild perk Bountiful Bags. Each run yielded on average 55 rugged leathers, and took ~12 minutes. That's some 250-300 leathers per hour.
Just clearing the closest courtyard seems kinda pointless, since you'll run into the 5 instance resets per hour limit.

Update:
Dire Maul North is still best place to farm these skins. First room has majority of mobs in the middle (Mastiff, hyena skin) with a few located on the perimeter. Second room has some interspersed throughout, patrolling & whatnot. Last place is room with DM Ogre boss, they patrol around just in front of him.
Judge where you want to go as 1) getting to last area is slightly time consuming 2) it is level dependent on how easy it is to farm these guys and 3) if you farm them too quick, you will get locked out of dungeons temporarily.
Happy hunting!

Also there is a fast spawning Green core hound named Gomegaz that paths around the area who has a high Rugged leather drop rate as well. This location is very easy accessed through the portal in the mage quarter of Stormwind.

North Dire Maul... Gordok Commons, definetly the best place to get rugged leather. I've gotten four, even five rugged leather off of one hyena, and even two rugged hides off of just one as well. Easily able to get 100+ within.. 30 minutes? I'm an 85 hunter so multi-shot gets rid of them all easily.
Of course I do have the guild perk bountiful bags, which is responsible for the multiple rugged leather per mob.

Diremaul North netted me 300 rugged leather and about 30 thick leather, ~20 rugged hides in 40 minutes (85 hunter), plus vendor crap.
Dont just clear the first pit, clear the entire area (First 3 bosses, Guard Mol'dar, Stomper Kreeq, and Guard Fengus) of hyenas. There aren't anymore skinnable beasts past this area except the last boss which has about 5, so it's not really worth to run all the way through the dungeon for those, then all the way back to the entrance to reset.

BEST places for Rugged Leather! Also, Thick leather with hides that drop randomly as well:
Blasted Lands: Mobs are all over, you literally just run around and blast stuff over and over and over, and they respawn quickly as well. Tons of boars, blisterpaws, etc All over zone one right after the other. ALSO, as you're grinding, you will pick up a few shards or something that begin a quest. They stack so you can just turn them in one after the other, rewarding a sack of goods each time with 1-2 green and blue gear: nice added bonus. Just circle Dark Portal area.... its SO easy its almost boring! But very rewarding. After 1 1/2 hours or so, I had no less than 140 rugged leathers and lots of thick ones as well.
A couple faster ways:
Sunken Temple!: keep in mind, the dragon bosses drop only 1-2 thick or rugged leathers, so you can skip the tunnels and boss chambers.... It only takes 10 minutes per run, too!: Just run in, start at one side, and circle main room grabbing all welps and wyrmkin elites, exit instance, reset, and repeat. After like 30-40 mins, and a few circles, I left with:
170+ Rugged leather
50+ thick leather
42 Worn Dragon scales
70-80 Green Dragon scales
and again, a few random hides as well. So fast!
Dire Maul- North entrance: Only need to run in and hit first room in center, and around the square in 2nd room to the west. Hit gordok mastiff mobs, exit, reset, repeat. Mobs aggro easily, so i just run around and tab target 1 member of each "group", put up a non-damage debuff until I get as many around me as possible, then I blow them all to hell :) Takes alittle longer, as in 20 mins tops each run, but again, I left with over 140 rugged leathers and 40+ heavy leathers.
<3
:) happy hunting :)

Now that the silithids no longer drop Chitin, I get several stacks from one clear of AQ20. Basically, if it's skinnable, it will skin to rugged leather or rugged hide (I get very few hides - maybe three or for per run).
Every three days it's a nice addition, and doesn't take long to clear at 85. The highest concentration seems to be between Ayamiss and B'uru, plus some Kurinaxx trash. If you don't kill one of the bosses, you could continue farming these every soft reset.
AQ40 mobs are not skinnable. :(

If you can afford to bring a few friends, you could easily get 2 stacks of Rugged Leather with each clear of Ony 10 trash, and there's only 4.
Run out reset when you are done, you can get quite alot in a small amount of time, what's best is you only have to skin 4 mobs, each drops around 8-12 rugged leather at once, so you don't have to skin endlessly.

My tactic was to only pull the first pit, loot, skin and exit.
My

Netted me 27 Rugged leather, 3 Thick leather and 2 random green items.
Second run
took 3:32 and I got 33 Rugged leather, 1 Rugged hide, 3 thick leather and again 2 green items.
Which is in total 60 Rugged leather, 6 Thick leather and 4 green items. Around 8 minutes in total.

In AQ20 the trash before the first boss can be skinned for rugged leather. They drop 1-6 each (with guild perk) plus the occasional rugged hide or green. They can be rounded up and aoe'd easily. Then, you can run out and reset the instance. It takes me about 10 min to clear them all. I get about two stacks per reset.
They do a slight knockback, which can be annoying if you are trying to use a castable aoe (like mind sear). Cat swipe is really good for it.

Ok so I see a lot of people saying the
Dire Maul
is a great place for Rugged Leather. This is a great place for this but if you're feeling lazy and don't want to run a whole dungeon just for a bit of leather then a great way to do this is..
Go to Feralas {cords 62, 24 (the area should be called Broken Commons) and enter the dungeon} in the first room of the dungeon there is a ramp, go down the ramp and you will find somewhere around 17 to 22
Gordok Mastiff
, kill them and skin em then run out the dungeon and reset and repeat as many times as you need :D
In my first run of this I got
23 Rugged Leather
6 Thick Leather
1 Rugged Hide
For about 2 minutes of work.
This may go even faster and better if you are level 85 and are in a guild who has
Bountiful Bags
(I am on a level 80 toon at the moment and my guild is only level 5 so I don't have this perk)

If you're a level 85 skinner and you need some Rugged Leather, Go clear trash in Onyxia's Lair- 630k hp mobs, You can skin about 15+ rugged leather from EACH one of them. Total of 4-5 (5 i think) mobs in there to kill/skin, and you can just reset the instance when done. the only trouble is their flame spell that does alot of damage. Otherwise, happy farming!-the time it takes to skin and loot 15+ rugged leather normally is about 2x or even 3x the amount of time it takes to kill one of these bad boys!

Farming in MoP
As these are currently going for 14g each (not each stack), and needed 450 of these to change my hunter to LW, I tried several of the pieces of advice here (except Winterspring and Terrodale, these are now lower level areas, and the southern island off Ferelas no longer exists, at least not above water with creatures). I did not go to Dire Maul as my druid has not done the Uldum quest line.
Blasted Land - a lot of competition from horde and alliance levelling players now the zones have merged (not all of whom loot everything). Still managed about 10 stacks over the course of 2 hours.
Lower Blackrock - This seemed to drop mainly thick leather from the dogs so I moved to
Upper Blackrock - Run 1: initially Worn Dragonscale, (realised I had the Jenkins title already) but most of the subsequent dragonkin dropped 1-3 Rugged. The Beast dropped 5 and
皮普的剥皮刀
yeah! Total of 60 leather (3 stacks), 6 greens, 120 runecloth and 50g in 15 minutes
UBRS run2: total of 75 rugged, 6 hide, 6 thick and assorted dragonscale,
图样:重型蝎壳护肩
dropped again, 115 runecloth, 4 greens and 41g post repair
Edit: I was still short a few so did a final run: 60 rugged, 5 hide, 10 thick, a now-useless
比斯巨兽的皮
, 92 Runecloth, 12 greens, 1 rare
欺诈宝珠
and just as I was leaving, an epic
生命石
For those unfamiliar with the instance:
To get into UBRS, go in through the Burning Steppes entrance and go in through the balcony on the left (it's slightly greyer than the rest).
(If you are not already atuned to BWL you can pick up the quest from the quartermaster to the right and down the stairs)
Go through the portal directly in front of you (Hall of Blackhand) and take the steps to the left (Dragonspire Hall). Clear all the mobs (you can skin Dragonspawn, but unfortunately not the orcs) inside the 7 rooms for the door to open.
Use the altar-like device on the floor to the left (Hall of Binding), to free and then take out the acolytes. Use the device until the boss spawns (a minute or so) and when the elemental is dead, the door will open.
Jenkins room - tread carefully to range-pull the 4 large ones (skinnable) or kill 50+ whelps in x seconds for achievement.
Up ramp to right, skin mobs in corridor. Kill elite at left of room. Pull rest (including ones upstairs) and kill. Go through corridor to right of where you came in. Say hi to Awbee.
Go to left into Blackrock stadium. Will get several waves of mobs - pull into centre so you can reach when the portcullis closes. Rend will come down a little while after last mob is cleared - skin as you go. IMPORTANT do NOT kill Gyth until Rend has dismounted otherwis the gate may not unlock and you will need to hearth out.
Go out through the portal you came in, turn left. 3 dragonkin here to skin, you can ignore the 2 guards to left (in front of the alternative portal into Blackwing vanilla raid instance). Take exit to right (the furnace). Clear and skin, jump over fire baricade to left and take out The Beast.
Back out to furnace and take exit now straight in front of you to final room, boss is ahead of you behind the wall. Pull all. (The orb for the attunement quest is behind the boss).
Exit is to the left of the boss, via the Jenkins room
There is also a post box and vendor outside in Searing Gorge, on Iron summit.

Considering the fact that it's an instance so you can pull everything and kill it all together, combined with the fact that you wont have any competition whatsoever..
This has got to be one of the best leather farming places of all times i've seen :-)

If you're a lowbe like me and can't do instance runs (i'm lvl 64 now)
I've found that in Silithus, around Hive'Zora (middle left side of the map) there are these groups of bugs that go around in 4 to 6 bug packs, if you have a decent AOE they line up in a nice circle around ya. Kill, loot, skin... move on to the next pack.
I got about 3 stacks of Rugged in about 30 minutes doing this.
Keep in mind this is for those that don't have the high level toons to farm with, and are just needing the leather to level up LW or sell on the AH.
:)
Have fun, because i didn't.... i hate farming leather just to level up my LW
A loud set of speakers with some music helps lol

For those of us that have to/want to farm Rugged Leather AT LEVEL (50ish), I have found that Burning Steppes is a fine place to farm Rugged Leather. The South/South East/East part of the maps have oodles of worgs and dragonkin that drop a ton of Rugged Leather.
Good Luck!

Best place to farm a lot in a few seconds, but just once is in Onyxia's Lair. There are 4 or 5 mobs before facing Onyxia herself... These mobs gave me 3 staks... I tried to reset to see if they would respawn and they didn't. Sad, but at least you can get 2 to 3 staks and kill Onyxia.

To farm the onyxia adds without having to reset the instance, pull ony and run out. There will be an add standing in the hallway. Tag the add before she resets and it won't despawn when she resets. Rinse and repeat.

I saw a similar comment, but figured i'd add mine in anyways.
In The Burning Steppes, approximate coordinates 43, 61 there are
黑石作战科多兽
s. They spawn super fast and there are a lot of them. There was never a time when there wasn't at least 3 or 4 spawned and they dropped
厚皮
and
硬甲皮
and a few hides as well. in about 10 minutes i had almost 2 stacks of each.
edit: After farming for awhile i figure the drop rate for Thick Leather is roughly 2x the drop rate of Rugged. Still the best spot i've found as a non-90.

Onyixa's Lair. Kill the dragonkin before you need to fight her.
Run 1: 53 leather
Run 2: 53 leather 7 hide
Then server instance stopped for me so I could not continue. Uploading picture.

The Hazzali Silithids of the Gaping Chasm area of Eastern Tanaris give an approximate 30% skinning drop of Rugged Leather.
My overall skinning rate was 200 Thick Leather, 60 Rugged Leather and about 5 Thick Hides.
Note that none of the Hazzali Silithids are listed as a Rugged Leather drop.

Blasted Lands is a good choice for several reasons: you can get there and back home in an instant using the portals set up for The Dark Portal, and the place is crawling with skinable mobs, bears, bats, boars, et al. If you go west of the Portal, you will find bats and bears that will sometimes give
Warbear Leather
instead of rugged leather.

Someone listed here a good while ago that The Tainted Scar in Blasted Lands is a good place to farm rugged leathers. As of patch 5.4, this is still a pretty good area. The drops of rugged leather (not
thick leather
) are consistent, the respawns (even if you experience competition from Horde and Alliance leveling) are fairly quick. Also, if you are Alliance, the town of Surwich is very close by if you need to vendor, and so is the Dark Portal if you're looking for quick transport back to your faction's main city.
For those of you curious, I did try the mobs just outside of Nethergarde/Deadmaul Hold and what I found was that it was too much of a mixed bag for me. For every 5 rugged I skinned, there were two thick. There was also even more competition from levelers since the areas are fairly close to major quest hubs.
This all being said, I did jump on a higher level toon to try out Dire Maul North for comparison's sake. For those of you that prefer to wait until you've reached a higher level to level your professions, as many have said, this is the area is spot on.
However, if you're like me and you prefer to level your professions as you level your toon, then give The Tainted Scar a shot.

Well, I have to share my thoughts on this.
This is my 5th toon with LW. And I allways been farming the Yetis in winterspring (the cave around 64,52) .
Great place.
Atm on my hunter with 5 looms, lvl 47. And mobs around 52. Great farming and great xp.

The Onyxian Warders in Onyxia's Lair drop 8-18 (so far for me) Rugged leather PER MOB. If you can kill them easily in 10 man, run in, kill all 4, skin, run out, reset, repeat.

I find the best place, and most dropped for rugged leather is northwest winterspring.
Follow the Yetis to the caves and rack up

I'm getting good amounts of rugged leather from Silithus' Hive'Regal inside and out. Very low percent of thick leather.

Entrance to cave is at 67,54 and it's perfect for tailoring if you're making rune cloth bags. You'll get all your mats in this cave.

Sorry, but hands down, the best place to farm this is Onyxia's lair. (10 man TLK)
Just kill the trash, don't kill Onyxia. The five mobs in Onyxias lair can drop up to 80 Rugged leather per run and also Rugged hides. I got 89 Rugged leather in a single run and 10 rugged hides, you hardly have to do any running, travel or work, just run out and reset the instance and get back to farming.
As an LW myself, I have spent hours on terrible methods, but this is the fastest and most easy run ever, and you on;y need to skin five mobs.

As of 6.0.2 I wasnt getting any Rugged Leather from Dire Maul North. I was only getting Heavy and Thick leather from the dogs.
You definitely want to go to
Sunken Temple
now. After one clear I had ~55 Rugged Leather, ~30 Thick Leather, ~2 Rugged Hide
Happy Farming

Discovered that these are now skinned regularly off core hounds in Molten Core, along side Core Leather. Regularly running MC weekly before 6.0.2, it would only drop very rarely with Core Leather. It now drops every single time.

3 places to find Rugged Leather:
1 Onyxia's Lair resetting after killing trash. I get the feeling Blizzard may eventually nerf this? Maybe so / maybe not, but the amount of leather you get for how little work you have to do seems sort of like an exploit/mistake on their part, so use it while its still around! For some reason on my 1st run today I just sort of went in and killed her without thinking. This was unfortunate as I am now locked out for several days, forcing me onto number 2:
2 Sunken Temple. Enter, gather every pack, (youll want to be high level) Skip bosses or even going down any hallways except to grab the packs of leather mobs. Aoe down, skin. There is truly some great profit potential here, as boe blues drop pretty often and so does pretty xmog stuff that goes for a lot of gold, such as the epic boe Robes of Insight. If i was starting out on a new server I would come to ST over Onys lair as there is more profit potential in ST. I get about 50 Rugged Leather a reset, gathering and killing takes about 4 mins or so on my Worg hunter with Aspect of Cheetah and racial Darkflight. I got through the 450 or so Rugged I needed to powerlevel LW in about an hour.
3 Blasted Lands around the questing areas. I only recommend this if you are a druid. If you are a druid, you can flying mount instantly and skin very quickly, on other classes I find that mounting up and moving to the next mob takes too long. Level 50s grind quests here and kill the mobs, on a busy Saturday morning during Xmas break last year I didnt have to kill a single mob for 4 hours, I just cleaned up after the questers who were killing far faster per capita then I ever could of solo. This strategy is great for the lazy minded, but you'll def want druid skinner for this as there is too much flight involved. This is a great place for any druid 60+ to farm, my ex girlfriend and I started out on a new server together and we were racing to see who could make more gold for mount training? And I was making like 2 grand an hour at level 60 doing this.
With WOD coming only a few weeks away now, I am starting to believe very deeply that skinning single targets is just too slow, inefficient, and unpleasant in the modern age of WoW. You need some sort of gimmick like Worgen racial skinning or druid quick flight form to make it bareable, and even then having good info on where to find aoeable packs is going to be the max leather per hour.

I found that Sunken Temple was a great place to farm for Rugged Leather.

I am leveling leatherworking so I decided to farm Sunken Temple for Rugged Leather last night with my level 71 Brewmaster Monk. My strategy was to pull everything in the first circular room and grab the multi-mob dragonkin trash packs that are halfway down the hallways. Got myself into a corner to line of sight the casters and killed the whole group in about five seconds. I was getting about 25-40 Rugged Leather, 10-25 Thick Leather, 1-2 Rugged Hide, 1-3 of those blue leatherworking recipes, and about 2-4 greens per reset of the instance. No epic or blue items/armor. I spent around ninety minutes in the dungeon total. I took a few breaks to tank some randoms so I would not exceed my resets of the dungeon. The entire process inside Sunken Temple took about five minutes, with the actual act of skinning taking the longest.
I also tried farming mobs in the Blasted Lands. This was tedious since there is no efficient way to gather a large group of skinnable mobs without them resetting. Stick to Sunken Temple.

As of 6.0 the Dire Maul north dogs drop, heavy and thick leathers, no longer rugged. Don't waste your time.
The Onyxia wardens drop from 9-18 (from hat I have seen) rugged leathers, of course they drop rugged hides also. I average about 24 rugged leathers a run, even with my incredibly Unlucky loot drops. After my first "you've entered too many instances" lock, I had 242 rugged leather, 178 rugged hides.

Accidentally came across a goldmine of rugged leather. 200+ out of the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj. The beginning, latter, and end of the instance hold all insects that are skinnable.

As EJB1969 stated Ruins of Ahn' Qiraj is a really good place. However, being a fairly old raid and a bit out of the way not sure how many players may have ran this area before. So figured I'd post a few tips for those who are not familiar with this raid.
Skip killing any of the bosses so you don't get locked in (you do not need to kill any bosses to move to the next area), and only kill the trash.
At Kurinnaxx, head left head to the Hatchery, and then clear out The Comb. Then turn around and you're finished with all those you can skin. In the Generals Terrace, don't kill any mobs except those right at the doors (otherwise you start the event). Most mobs should ignore if you stay close to the wall at level 100. Yellow mobs are not skinable (so don't bother), and the other 3 areas do not have any mobs that you can skin.
In my first run I did not get 200+ like mentioned, but I did get 182
硬甲皮
, 8
厚皮
, 4
硬甲毛皮
, and 2 greens, and a lot of scarabs, which seems to be fairly good for what I am wanting..

My best area for Rugged Leather is in Silithus.
At one time I circled The Swarming Pillar to the SSE of Cenarion Hold. I've found that they respawn too slowly.
Now I've taken to Hive Regal, both the above ground and (getting lost) underground areas.
I feel that this is a higher skinning rate for Rugged Leather over Thick Leather.

On average you can get 400 Rugged Leathers in Onyxia's Lair
Talk your class trainer and join Proving Grounds. Then teleport out, DON'T LEAVE INSTANCE, and go to Onyxia's Lair. Kill the 4 mobs before Onyxia and teleport to dungeon and back in. Reset instance and do it all over again for 9 more times. To me all the runs combined it takes ~15min. So you could say that you get 1600 per hour.

I happened to need some rugged leather today, and was farming around Silithus. Decided to hop into AQ10 for some transmog gear, and killed some bugs. Voila! Lots of leather! So AQ10 is my recommendation, each of the bugs can be skinned for around 2-3 leather each.

Just a note when you are farming for leathers in raid instances (not dungeons). If you want to be able to reset raid instances and farm more trash after reset, DON'T KILL ANY BOSSes. If you have done so, you can't reset an instance and will need to wait for another day!
评论来自
CeldorZ
Onyxia Lair is probably the best place to farm for Rugged Leather and Rugged Hide. There are only a couple of them but you get about 40 leathers per run and plenty of Hides. 10 runs after resets gives 400+ leathers in very fast way. Location in Duskfollow Marsh:
/way Dustwallow Marsh 52.0 75.6 Onyxia Lair
Another good, but not as good as Onyxia is Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj in Silithus. Location:
/way Silithus 35.9 82.5 Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj
This is not the exact location. You just need to run way up a bit and slightly bear left.
NOTE. Don't kill any boss when you are in raid instances. If you do so, you get saved and won't be able to reset an instance meaning the mobs will not respawn after the reset.

As of today, confirmed that Onyxia's Lair is a painless way to farm these. Just kill the 4 Onyxian Warders, skin, and run out. I averaged 15-18 rugged leather per kill, but you'll also get a healthy number of rugged hides and some frostweave cloth. BUT FIRST, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE OUTLAND SKINNING TRAINED!

As of Shadowlands: I have max skinning and have hunted down every non-elite or raid mob on this list. NONE of them give rugged leather anymore... it's all thick or heavy. So now I'll have to drop a primary profession and pick up leatherworking just to craft the rugged leather....

So...F2Ps, good luck.
