This is a new item dropped by level 48-56 bears throughout Azeroth. This is needed to make Charred Bear Kabobs and Juicy Bear Burgers. These recipes are added to help in leveling cooking from 250 to 300 without fishing.

Drops from any lvl 48-56 Bear in Azeroth. Easily farmable in Felwood and Winterspring.

"New recipes, Charred Bear Kabobs and Juicy Bear Burgers, can be
purchased from either Bale (Horde) or Malygen (Alliance) in Felwood.
These recipes requires 250 skill to learn, and are created from meat
found on level 48-56 bears. This will aid players in leveling up
their cooking skill to 300 without fishing." - 2.4 Patch Notes

You will be able to lvl cooking from 250 to ~295 using just these two recipes (turns green at 285 and grey at 295). After which you can use Smoked Desert Dumplings to reach 300 after getting the quest in Silithus (req 285 cooking).

I found the drop rate and the amount of mobs (Shardtooth ...) better in Winterspring than Felwood. I headed north of Everlook and got enough bear flanks in an hour to get from 250 to 285 (at which point you can head to Silithus for the Smoked Desert Dumplings quest as per DicemanLucky7's comment above).

the best place i found to farm these was 38,44 in felwood (slightly northwest of Bloodvenom falls for those w/out cords).
there is a group of about 10 Angerclaw maulers that have a decent respawn rate.

The drop rate on Bear Flank's is not particularly high in felwood. As a level 70 Hunter with Track Beasts on, I scavenged from north to south killing all forms of bears. By the end I had about 29 bear flanks, the majority coming closer to the south with the Angerclaw Bears.

- Angerclaw Grizzlies: BAD drop rate
- Angerclaw Maulers: Decent drop rate, (37,43) (44,63)
- Angerclaw Bears: Good drop rate (45, 73)

Just start at the north end of Felwood, and make your way south, killing any and all bears in your path. Then just take the flight path at the southern end and fly back.. the bears should have respawned by then.

Do this a few time and you'll be able to invite your friends over for a Bear BBQ.

Oh, don't for get to grab the nearby Songflower plant for a nice buff to ranged/melee/spell crit (+70 rating) and Attributes (+15). Helps with the farming.

Farming is great in Feralas (right by the Twin Colossals) - I would say 50% drop rate for sure and the bears are only lvl 48.

I agree with Ammut. The drop rate is well above the 15% stated. I would say it is between 40-50%. Either that or I was having a lucky night. ;-)

i went on a bear killing spree in felwood killing from talonbranch glade going south to the bottom of the map and back to where i started. i killed about 95 bears total and i got 38 flanks. thats about 40% drop.

I went around the northern half of Felwood, killing 35 bears in the process. I got 17 bear flanks which is just under 50% drop.

(43,65) Very good place for bears. There's about 6 on one side of the tree and another 6 on the south side of it.

Just south more are also about 7 wolves.

South of the acid river from here are 4 more bears grouped near each other.

I went to Felwood to farm for these, to get my cooking skill from 250 to 285 (at which the two recipes become green).
Used my lv. 70 Night Elf Holy Priest.

Started at 20:53, ended at 21:20.

I went from Talonbranch Glade to Emerald Sanctuary.

Got:

36 Bear Flank
12 Bear Organ
11 Savage Bear Claw
14 Large Bear Bone
21 Bear Jaw
5 Wicked Claw
1 green from a bear
1 green from a rare (Death Howl)

When I reached Emerald Sanctuary I was short of a couple flanks, so I decided to go a bit north hoping for respawn.. and I got the last ones.
Very good place to farm for these.. there's a lot of packs of bears here and there, making things more easy (I personally hate farming).

Went on a killing spree North of Everlook, killing all bears I saw for about 30 minutes. Made about 2 loops from Everlook > Winterfall Area > Cut by Hidden Grove toward Frostsaber Rock > then South back toward Everlook and came up with 38 flanks in that time. Mileage may vary depending on your movement speed, kill speed, and if any competition is there (hardly ever). I was looking at about a 60-80% drop rate overall. Nearly every corpse had a flank. Perfect for leveling up to get the Silithus recipe, as the Bear Flank ones go green just before 300. If you're going to do "my loop" then don't get too close to Hidden Grove or Frostsaber Rock. If you see LOTS of Moonkins or Frostsabers, you've gone too far and are going to waste time trying to find bears there. Hope this helps!

I found that using a targeting macro such as
/target Angerclaw Mauler
works great here. I press it until I target one, then press the attack button on my ghoul's toolbar and just follow him for the kill.

I found a few areas for these... I had about a 30% drop rate from bears in Felwood.

38.9, 44.8 - Found to be a great spot
43.1, 63.3 - Also head South East of here
45.5, 73.8

Around these coods you should find quite a few bears. I got over 20 flanks from these locations

Not sure about other servers but on lightninghoof these sell for quite a lot sometimes considering how easy they are to get, I've sold stack for 100g a couple of times, and many times for 80g. I also seem to think that the bears in winterspring drop it more frequently, but felwood is still a better location to farm them.

a lot of people talk about felwood for drops but i have found the best place if you are already high level is the diseased grizzly in WPL which are the higest level that drop them and dont seem to have inconsistent drop rates

For those of you farming this off of Angerclaw Maulers in Felwood, with a chance of a 45% drop rate, the area with the most bears, is around 38.1, 44.8, and cross the river, there are more than 15 bears bunched up together.

This Item now Drops from the Western Plaguelands bears, level 35. And I might say, they increased the drop rate dramatically - I get one from just about every single kill. Thank you Blizz for helping us with some of the worst drop rates in the game! Much love. :P

They don't drop that much from the hulking plaguebears and I don't believe the diseased grizzlys exist anymore, but the diseased black bears to the northwest drop them almost every time.

The recipe is for Charred Bear Kabobs, and it is still in the game, I just picked it up today. The problem is that since Cat. most of the mobs that dropped this seem to be gone. The Bears in Plaguelands seem to be the best bet anymore.

One great way to get Bear Flank is to go to the Goodgrub Smoking Pit at 55,28 in Winterspring (just abit north and slightly west of Everlook). There are two types of bears in the valley in high concentrations and there are two quests offered at this site to kill 15 of each of the two types. The bears never seem to run out and the valley where they are concentrated makes it easy work. A follow-up quest at this site asks you to kill a big bear in a cave at 59, 40 (south end of the valley), this one also drops Bear Flank.

After going from Western Plaguelands, Felwood, and Winterspring... the Shardtooth Bear in Wintersping (a little bit north of Everlook) seems to be the more reliable place to get Bear Flank.

...

If you're going to winterspring to level from 225 up I suggest the Shardtooth Maulers as they respawn very frequently compared to their white cousins towards the north.

They're just to the northwest of Everlook, happy hunting!

Post Cataclysm, Patch 4.1

I've found the Shardtooth Bears in Winterspring (all north of Everlook) have a consistent drop rate of Bear Flank. Been farming only for a few minutes now (5?) and I already have 10 in my bag.

ETA: A very healthy respawn as well.

The 蓬毛黑熊 in Western Plaguelands are also a good source for bear flank. The drop rate is good, they are close together, don't have other animals mixed in, and the respawn rate is pretty quick.They are located near the Alliance controlled Chillwind Camp and are typically level 35/36.

If u need bear flank to level you're cooking from 250+ at cataclysm then u can go too western plague lands too kill the Shaggy Black Bear and Diseased Black bear too receive bear flank.

WPL shaggy black bears drop also and seems to be more of them. Actually there are lots of them, I'm at 40,48 right now. Drop rate is good.

As of 4.3 a great place to get these are from Angerclaw Grizzlies in Felwood. It's close to Org, and easy quick flight. Specifically around 40, 49.

It would seem much of what's posted here is outdated as of Cataclysm, but for anyone interested in cooking here's some useful information!

First of all, this is great for leveling cooking and is in my opinion best farmed from 冬泉谷 as you should easily be able to get from 225 - 285 farming in the same area:

25 x 巨蛋 from any owlbeast in the zone, the drop-rate isn't too good, but there are a lot of them.
40 x 熊腰肉 from the shardtooth bears located just east of Starfall Village.

I've been looking around on wowhead, and the part about getting the recipes is really outdated pretty much everywhere.
As of the Cataclysm, this goes!

食谱：超级煎蛋卷 is bought from several vendors, including 西米克 in Everlook. (needs 225 cooking)
食谱：多汁熊肉汉堡 is learned by cooking trainer. (needs 250 cooking)
食谱：熊肉串烧 is learned by cooking trainer. (needs 250 cooking)

the best ones to hunt down for this are Shardtooth Mauler their a bit longer down on the scale but it's pretty but a 100 % drop rate I got 1 stack and 18 of them with about only 5 or 7 of them not having them and they regen pretty fast too, I went around the corner for about 3 - 4 mins and then like 3 - 4 of them were already back

I had to farm some to grind my cooking. I choose to go to Blasted Lands (as it is the closest to SW), to kill those Tainted Black Bears. I didn't know if I only had luck (or maybe there was a drop rate increase), but the first 9 bears all dropped meat for me. Then the next 7 didn't drop any.... so yes, it's around 50%.

Best farming is right outside Androhal, western plaguelands. Lots of bears, and good respawn rate if you want to level you cooking using bear flank this is the spot.

From my exp the best drop are in winterspring. Around 55.40 both brown bears and white once drop them.

I like to farm these to make a few gold. My favorite place to farm these are from the Shardtooth Bears in Winterspring. They surround the little hill that Rimepelt hangs out on, just east of Snowden Chalet (where Donova Snowden the quest giver is). There are only maybe 10 or so bears but they respawn really fast and are easy to gather into a group. If you are an herbalist, it's also a beneficial area because there is an icecap and a mountain silversage node right there as well. I'll usually be able to gather from those nodes three or four times before I've gathered a few stacks of bear flanks. The negative to this area is that a lot of people are questing around there on my server.

At level 90 and being at Eastern Kingdoms it's a bit harder so I went to Western Plaguelands because Felwood didn't have enough bears at 90. Land at Chillwind Camp, follow between the mountains and road west until you get to the Bulwark, then go northeast. Nice concentration of them at 32,57.

Times change but I was at about 50% drop, maybe a little less sadly.

I found that the Shardtooth Maulers (brown bears) in Winterspring just north of Everlook gave the best drop rate for me. I m afraid I didn't take note of the figures but in about 10 minutes I had well over a stack of Bear Flank.
The Shardtooth Bears (white ones) further north gave me a very poor drop rate and I found no where near the 50% rate given here by Wowhead. I managed about 2 flanks from approximately 15 bears.
The re-spawn rate is pretty good as well, so by the time you have finished working your way through the bears, the first ones are back.

The place for these is WPL 36, 64 and area. Drop rate is near to 1:1 as makes no difference. 10 mins of farming and I’ve got 50+.
