On my server, these are selling for 50s each, while Savage Leather is selling for 150g per stack, or 1.5g per Scrap. Check prices on Scraps on your AH and consider buying the Scraps, combining them, and reselling them as Savage Leather.

These can be farmed with 99.9% drop rate from the Hyjal Stag in Wolf's Run and Twilight Command Post in Mount Hyjal. North of the Shrine of Aviana.

These actually gave skillups in leatherworking for combining into normal leather from 431 up to 448 (then i ran out of scraps).

Anyone knows how far you can do that? That might make these things worth farming over normal leather..

Points stop being awarded at 450 LW. If you look at the "Reagent For" tab it shows orange at 425, yellow at 435, green at 442, and gray at 450. Hope this helps because I was actually coming here looking for that exact answer =D

I farmed scraps in Sethria's Roost. It'll be faster if you have the quest and the item to kill the juggernauts. They respawn quickly but if you've already done the quest you can skin other players' kills along with the normal dragonkin.

If you're specifically after scraps, go to Mount Hyjal, northwest corner, where the bear cubs are trapped in the trees. There are 6 Pacified Grizzly Bears that spawn within 100 yards of one another. They instantly respawn when there are less than 3 alive, and they are low enough level to drop scraps quite frequently. I farmed out 5 stacks of scraps in 30 minutes, and a fair amount of savage leather on top of that (84 hunter leveling LW).

Obtained from skinning Cataclysm mobs.
Used to create Savage Leather. Orange at 425, yellow at 435, green at 442, and gray at 450.

These are great for Leatherworking being leveled post-Lich King as they the first type of leather you will be getting from Cataclysm mobs.
The best method of farming I have found is the bears in the Whistling Grove west of the Grove of Aessina (Northwest corner of Hyjal, where the bear trampoline toss is). There are eight that spawn in a circle around this small area. What makes them amazing to farm is that once you've killed the majority of them, they will force respawn. So no matter how fast you kill them, there will always be a living one less than twenty yards away. One thing to note is that once you've unlocked your Molten Front dailies in that area, they will no longer spawn and are replaced with the inferno dogs.

So far, the best place I've found is right outside the ship where you land in Vashj'ir. Once you do the quest to get your Sea Legs, the Splitclaw Skitterers are a great source of scraps. If you can take a couple hits or aoe, they are easy to gather up in groups of 4-8 for fast killing. Since they're also a quest mob, they have a quick respawn timer as well as being extremely prolific all across the initial questing area.

As I was 90 the dragonspawn area of Hyjal was phased away, so i couldn't farm scraps there. A great alternative is Biel'aran Ridge in Vashj'ir, lots of Silversand Burrowers there close together, and often drop 2-3 scraps.

I've found the best place to farm these are in The Clutch, In Vashj'ir. 57,65 co-ords. Killing the 4 or 5 famished great sharks, that spawn almost instantly. Even as a geared 90 hunter, I can't kill and skin fast enough to kill all the sharks before another respawns. You basically just sit in one spot, turn around, kill, loot, skin and repeat.

So why specifically farm the scraps? Simple... Leather working skill ups. You make the savage leather to get LW skill ups AND then you STILL have the leather you made for more skill ups. If you have extra and want a bit of extra gold, you can sell these for about 35% more than the actual leather, (1 leather = 10g, 5 scraps =13.5g) *this price is just as an example and will vary by server and current supply/demand*

Also pretty handy if you have another skinning toon. For example, the Leatherworker I am leveling now, is LW and Enchanting, (strange combo, but I needed a mail wearing class to DE timeless mail stuff, rather than just vendoring it)

I would also suggest using a potion of luck while farming these, since you will be killing and looting pretty steady, you can make a lot of extra gold just while farming these to offset the cost of leveling your profession.

These sharks also drop savage leather and deep sea scale ( enough to consider them a nice bonus while farming the scraps)

PS.. As a 90, I carry a low level bow (item lev 15ish) and use this on the sharks, using serpents sting, the sharks actually die right on top of me, so I don't actually have to move at all.

To get all recipes in Leatherworking that require 重蛮皮 to buy, AND make just one of each piece of armor, you'll need 748 重蛮皮 or 3,740 蛮皮 or 18,700 蛮皮碎片.
To just purchase the recipes that require 重蛮皮 to buy, you'll need 460 重蛮皮 or 2,300 蛮皮 or 11,500 蛮皮碎片.
If you've already collected all the recipes, then to craft just one of each item will cost you 288 重蛮皮 or 1,440 蛮皮 or 7,200 蛮皮碎片.

1 重蛮皮 requires 5 蛮皮 to make.
1 蛮皮 requires 5 蛮皮碎片 to make.

蛮皮碎片 can be skinned from these sources.
蛮皮 can be skinned from these sources.

Skinners can combine these into Savage Leather while moving, and even while mounted!

Wanting to level up Leatherworking on my Level 52 worgen I thought the scraps would be a good way for the initial level ups. But checking the various suggested mobs and also some others in the Skinning section here, I have not had any scraps drop at all only Savage Leather.

Tried Firelands raid instance also as it used to drop a lot there too but on the Savage Leather now with a few bloated items as usual.

Not sure whether it is because being higher level to the zones they are all Level 35 maxed and those versions do not drop the scraps. Or, they simply do not drop now from the listed mobs? Guess the only way to check is to try a character at level 30 on these and see if it is any different.

This was on a character with no Skinning level to start but 100 by the end of test.

As of now, at least for higher level, they do not seem to be available to skin. Only via the market or stores you may have. The trading volume on the AH seems really low also these days.
