This is indeed incorrect. It is looted from the cracked egg, and learned like any other mount.

The egg itself is obtained from the oracles in Sholazar Basin. You must first hit revered reputation with them, and it can then be purchased for just over two and a half gold. The egg hatches after seven days, and this is one of the possible rewards.

3rd egg, and I just got my 2nd proto-drake. I went to open my egg today and there it is, the Reins again (which I got last week) and it says right on the item "Already known".

I got on WoW early Christmas morning and received my cracked egg. I had already gotten the white and brown tick birds the previous weeks, so I expected it to be the lame aged yolk. I right clicked the egg and noticed purple letters. I was in Daralan so I thought someone was linking something you know to sell and such, so I took a closer look. It said I had received Reins of the Green Proto Drake! My heart pounded so hard with excitement I think I almost had a heart attack. I went to the Daralan flight master and quickly hopped on. I've spent countless hours looking for that damn time-lost proto drake, so finding this was basically the best WoW Christmas present ever! Good luck to anyone to gets this or any of the other proto drakes, deff the best mounts in the entire game, and happy holidays!

Oracles have no repeatable quests, and you get 1700 rep per day if you do all the dailies everyday (there are only three, it literally takes minutes). You start off at Honored so it takes only a couple of days' worth of dailies to get to Revered.

Looting the egg RIGHT as it hatches has nothing to do with getting the drake or not.

I'm 0 for 5 so far on eggs shrug. Random low/semi-low "drop" rate. It isn't as high as some think. Know a few people who have one on their mains and an alt. And I know people that are 0 for 3-5 as well. Though I am not a very lucky person with anything in this game anyways =P

Yes, you can get it regardless of your riding skill.

Yes, you can get it at revered, or at exalted, it does not make a difference.

Yes, you can get it more than once.

Edit: Just got mine on my 12th egg (on my Death Knight alt), she's barely into revered. It was her first egg.

This Mount definatly makes the oracles worth picking over frenzyhearts early on, since the oracles seem to offer about 5 pets and an epic flying mount it seems great to pick them. better then some beer that turns you into a frenzyheart for 10 minutes.

Yes, it is correct that you have a 2% chance of getting a drake in the first egg that you purchase, but you have to understand the difference between following:

1)Chance of getting it in a singe attempt.
2)Chance of getting it at least once in number of attempts.

More attempts, you take, higher is probability that you will get it at least once. In fact probability that you will get it at least once in 50 attempts is close to 64%.
Though you must understand that it does not mean that your 50th egg will contain the drake for sure, no, it will still have 2% chance of dropping. Statistics does not make difference between 5th and 35th attempt. You just assume that you are going to make 50 attempts, and the probability that you will get it is close to 64%, as i stated it above. You might get it on 3rd try, but that would mean that most likely you won't be getting it again on remaining 47.

Edit: Forgot to mention most important conclusion. Basically that means that if you stay revered or higher with Oracles for a year (~50 weeks), you will get your drake for sure :) so it is not that long.
But personally i would suggest going for Frenzyheart 1st in any way, hit exalted with them, and start grinding Oracle rep. In that way you safely get both Green Proto drake and Mercenary of Sholazar.

One thing to note is the colours of this proto-drake exactly match the background colouring of Sholazar itself. I noticed this as I was riding around when I got my mount.

So, if you are lucky enough to get two of them (I got mine on my third and fifth eggs), then you are pretty much SOL. It's BOP, cannot be disenchanted, and cannot be sold either. I'm petitioning a GM on the vague hope that I might be able to transfer it to another character, but I don't have much hope. I wish I'd gotten yolk this week - that I could have at least sold for a few silver. :(

Based on what ive seen on my server, Gurubashi, and the comments above the best estimated amount of eggs you have to buy until you finally get the lovely green winged terribly beastie would be about...5 to 7 eggs.

So im waiting yet another week for my egg to hatch next Sunday.

Guys....this is a game where we have a 4 or 5 (i forget how many) bags that carry massive amounts of random objects, such as Onyxia's head ><, and for some reason we can open up an invisible jar and BAM! out pops a Elephant or kodo...

I mean the proto drake looks cool but the green flight has always been my favorite, They even got snubbed on having a mount, unlike the other four flights, and indeed albinos even have their own mount, not that there is an albino flight. Opened my first Cracked Egg at 5:18pm (EST), 2-19-2009 and inside was the Green Proto Drake. My egg was ready around 1pm but I wasn't online to open it. I nearly spat milkshake all over my monitor when I opened the egg.

This is a message to everybody.

Don't get discouraged if you don't get a Green Proto Drake on your first couple of eggs. It does take a while due to the fact it's based on pure luck. I recently got mine today after 8 Eggs. When I received it, I was overjoyed and in my opinion I really believe it was worth the wait. Just don't get discouraged and give up guys.

Something good happens always when you least expect it. After opening 4 eggs and getting 3 of the pets (got the cobra twice), I was hoping to get the last pet (Tickbird Hatching) from my egg which hatched just last night. But to my surprise, I got this instead, almost had a heart attack because of it too.

Then I pretty much spent the rest of the night exploring all of northrend on it while my guildies cussing at me the whole time. Good times lol.

Edit: I can definitely confirm that after learning the drake you can still get it from the eggs. I just got the drake again after I got the drake from last week. It's soulbound, learned, and the vendors won't buy it.

At first I picked the Frenzyheart (as a rogue) going for the Azure Strappy Pants, of course, once I hit 80 and began to gear up these became basically useless, now I was stuck with a crappy faction and anger towards the Disgusting Jar, as I wanted that Green Proto Drake. I spent the next 13 days (I had just hit revered) working towards exalted, and also looking for the bright side of choosing Frenzyheart first. I realized that if I wanted the Mercenary of Sholazar achievement I'd have to get exalted with both factions at one point or another...and I figured I'll finish up with them then work my way towards exalted with the Oracles later. The main message of this is: If you want to get the Mercenary of Sholazar achievement and eventually get a Green Proto Drake, I'd advise going frenzyheart first so you only have to grind Oracle rep once.

The green proto-drake is way cooler than any other. The Time-Lost Proto-Drake is pretty cool too but much to hard to get. and 2% is a pretty good percent change, much better than the crappy 1% of the Polar Bear mount. :( Why are all of the awesome mounts the hardest to get... polar bears... green drakes... mammoths....

My egg cracked today after waiting the 7 days, and on my first try to my suprise was the green proto-drake.

In all honesty what i can say is since all proto-drakes period are considered rare and hard to get, you just got to think of it that way.

Some people like myself and others will get the drake on the first hatch, while others may get it many eggs later.

Aside from that I have a question. There was a green proto-drake at Dalaran sitting at the port but it was like dropping green poison from its mouth. Is that some kind of mount special for the proto?

After completing my Glory of the Hero, i was finally the proud owner of a red proto drake. I was thinking: YES, no more eggs, no more TLPD-scanning & no more heroic achievements.
A week after or so i opened an egg on my warrior alt and to my big surprise... yes yes, a green proto! Thinking it could not get better (main a red & alt a green), i opened another egg on my main 2 weeks later right before starting naxx and yet again... green proto. That sets the score to 1 green proto on my warrior and a green & red proto on my main.

So yes, chances are u get one quite fast, even on multiple chars or the same char, but u have to accept u might not see a green proto at all.

To be sure u get a proto, your best shot is completing Glory of the Hero. The achievements itself aren't that bad (except some quite nasty ones), the hard part is finding people with the same interest & ready to consume time with wiping & trying to get the right move.

I think what he was trying to say is that the probability number crunching is a bit pointless. You buy your egg, you wait a week, and regardless of the maths behind it you get a drake or you get something else.
For some people it's the first egg, for some people it might be hundreds. You won't get it any faster or be able to do any more about it because you know the probability, it's just possible each time.

i got mine after cca 4 months (at least), starting the egg buying in january 2009, and after 4 months permanent shoping of the eggs and cca 18 failed "attempts" i got it finaly :)
i alrdy didnt awaited something else as some hatchling or Aged Yolk, the bigger was my euphoria then :D

all who want this mount should keep in mind few things:
-its mostly luck, nothing else
-u cant affect its drop in anyway
-ist epic mount nearly for free so dont await that Blizzard will give you some of such kind of mount as Proto-drake is only so easily (any blaming on Blizzard is silly, you should be glad and thank Blizzard that you can get such mount at all by such primitive way, without any effort put into it - just look at the other Proto-drakes, and what u need to get them ;-) )

I have opened two eggs every week pretty close after Wrath came out (two characters hit 80, one the first week, another the second week after wrath was released)... and I still have no gotten this proto-drake. You would think opening 8 eggs a month (roughly around 35+ eggs to date?), you would get him, but nope. It really is luck... not how many eggs you open.

I don't know what kind of luck you need to have to have it drop twice. My 14th egg is hatching tonight and I haven't even seen it once yet. I met a guy who opened the egg for 12 weeks on 5 chars before getting it on one of them, that means 60 eggs opened.
Yes, you can get it even 10 times, but that assuming you're very lucky.

This drop comes from a Mysterious Egg only. The egg is available for purchase from the Oracle QM in Sholozar Basin for a few gold when your reputation with them is revered or higher. Each egg takes 7 days (168 hours) to hatch before it becomes a Cracked Egg at which point one can open it for a "reward". The Green Proto being is one of 6 rewards that can drop. Only one Mysterious Egg can be held in your inventory at one time. The drake of course has the lowest chance to drop at <1%.

Received mine this morning after opening my 8th Cracked Egg. Record:

Week 1: Proto-Drake Whelp
Week 2: Aged Yolk
Week 3: Proto-Drake Whelp
Week 4: Cobra Hatchling
Week 5: Aged Yolk
Week 6: Cobra Hatchling
Week 7: White Tikibird Hatchling
Week 8: Reins of the Green Proto Drake

Not a bad record since I hear many many people have been trying since the first few weeks of LK's release.

The mount can "drop" more than once for a single character. I've heard of people getting the drop 3 or 4 times. Kinda lame though since you can only learn it once. Destroying mounts..*shudder*

This means ON AVERAGE the mount MAY drop once in 50 runs.
Now let me explain to you. The game does not count how many eggs you have done, so that when you ding egg #50, the mount drops. The count essentially "resets" after each opening, and does not increase the drop rate. So in essence, there is a less than 2% chance of the mount dropping.

I love the people who say "Don't get discouraged, it took me eggs to get mine!" I've been doing this since the middle of December and haven't gotten the drake. Thank god I have the Time-Lost Proto-Drake! And for those of you hunting the TLPD, YES he's much easier to get than waiting for RNG to be on your side!

I think every one of alts including my bank has gotten every little pet. Sold a few of the pets on the AH though, that was a plus.

Here's the factor that you have to put in as well:

All the drops, except this one, aren't bind on pick up. This allows you to either give them to an alternate character or even sell them. So, if you don't get the drake, you can still make some money from selling the pets. The food drop, on the other hand, is a nice food reserve, or even a couple silver. Since I have a very bad habit of not stocking up on food, I'm not always disappointed at seeing the food drop. So when trying for this mount, all I can say is to keep an open, positive mind about what you might get. Good luck to all you mount hunters! : )

No, the only mount currently in the game that fits your level of riding is the dk one, this onerequires artisan riding to use. But not having the apropriate skill to ride it doesn't mean it won't drop. You can still loot it and keep it in your backpack.

Got it, used it and ..ofc happy having it. Now - its only looks and no other improvements like speed or so. your mount will not make much use for u in fights or similars.. so the way i see it its for fun, like a bonus, dont overdo it on getting it, use time on someting that acetually improves your performance...and yes, i would like the hatchling as pet..also for looks

I can confirm that it will drop even if you don't have the riding skill to learn it. I just got one from my third egg. Time to really grind up some gold so I can use it. Oh well, I needed to clean out my bank anyway...

And no, your chance of having it drop do not increase the more eggs you've opened. It is set at 2%. You have a 2% chance on your first one, and a 2% chance on your 100th one. Probability says that after you open so many that the odds are you will have gotten one, but you have to open around 50 eggs (nearly a year's worth of trying) before it enters into the realm of "why don't you have one yet?".

In order to obtain this mount, you must first become Revered with The Oracles, a faction located in Sholazar Basin.
Once you become Revered, you can purchase a Mysterious Egg, which after 7 days becomes a Cracked Egg. This egg, when looted, has a chance to drop one of 4 mini-pets, this mount, or some aged yolk.
The mount has a 2% drop rate.
You can only buy one egg at a time (due to its "Unique" tag), and it takes 7 days to hatch. That means you only have one chance per week to obtain this mount. Hope this was clear and helpful.

Anyway it was like me 6-7th egg. Had stupid yolks and pets from others.

It has a cool animation if you just stand there, it like roars in the sky :].

It's awesome.

If you're a shadow priest, don't expect to admire this well-colored mount. When in shadowform, the entire mount turns pitch-black, except for the wings, which remain blue, although much darker. Also, unlike many other mounts, this proto-drake does not become transparent, save for the small bit of fur by the face, and the place the rider sits.

Perhaps I can make someone else feel better. My druid has been opening eggs since Jan, my lock since Feb. Both have been doing the Brunnhildar daily for the Polar Bear mount. I figure I have opened 45 eggs and gotten ~250 Hildnir Spoils. No mount of any kind. My wife got the drake on two characters on the 3rd try for each, and also has the Polar Bear. Can't convince me this is not partially bugged.

Blizzard added a mount special to all of the proto-drakes in patch 3.1 (?) <-- Correct me if I am wrong.

Also, this mount is one of the rewards from the Mysterious Egg, which hatches after one week (7 days) after purchasing it from the Oracles in Sholazar Basin. Once a week has gone by, it'll reappear in your bag as a "cracked egg."

Note: you must achieve revered status with the Oracles if you want to get the egg!

I got my proto-drake on my first egg, can you believe that? And a few weeks before Christmas, too. x:

OK so here is it. Your drop chance DOES NOT increase by amount of eggs you opened!
Open 1st egg - 2% chance.
Open 2nd egg - ~~4% chance~~ its still 2% chance to get drake.
So you can open 9999999 eggs but its possibly stilll to dont have drake.

I'm pretty happy, got my Proto-drake 4th egg. All the drop rates and how likely you are to get it that people have written are a bit stupid. You could buy 5 eggs and get it every time.

Bought eggs for months never getting anything but lame pets (mostly that stupid cobra), then after taking a long break from wow I logged in to find "Your egg has cracked" in chat. Then today, there it was my first proto. Too bad it's only good for four more days. I only need a few brewfest quests to get the 310 speed proto.

Everyone is quick to mention that you have a 2% chance of getting this to drop every time you open an egg, no matter how many times you do it, and that your chances never change. This is not completely true, and it's due to the difference between experimental probability and theoretical probability, and the fact that the more times an experiment is repeated, the closer these two probabilities come to being the same odds.

The probability is set so that you have a 1 in 50 chance of getting this drake when you open an egg. That is completely true. However, what is also completely true is that the more times this experiment is repeated, the closer the resulting data comes to representing that 1 in 50 chance. In other words, if it was done 100 times, it's not terribly likely you will get exactly 2 drakes by the time you hit 100. Your resulting experimental probability might show odds of 1/100 or even 5/100 if you're lucky. If it was done 100,000 times, it's quite likely you would get 2,000 drakes, or very close to it. The more times the dice are tossed, basically, the better the chance of the statistics playing out to the numbers that are set (in this case, 1 in 50, which is the theoretical probability) for it.

A very simple example of this is tossing a coin. We all know the odds of getting the heads side to show is 1 in 2 (assuming all things are equal, I'm not sure if the raised head on one side makes it weigh more and changes the odds but you know what I'm saying). If you tossed the coin twice it's pretty likely you could get tails both times or heads both times, or one of each. If you tossed the coin 500 times, it's going to be a lot closer to half the time that you get heads, which is the set probability of getting heads on a coin toss.

This concept of the odds averaging out to where they are supposed to be was done mathematically much further up the page and mentioned sporadically throughout, but it hadn't been mentioned in a while and I think it's important to know. It boils down to your chances of success getting better the more you repeat the experiment; but there is never a guarantee point no matter how many times you do it. The odds of you not getting a drake after a certain ridiculously high number of eggs opened is extremely low, not because the odds of the drake (1 in 50) have changed, but because the chances of the event being one or the other a certain number of times in a row, once it's FAR past 50 eggs opened, is ridiculously low.

Edit: To the replies, yes, the odds are still 1 in 50 no matter how many times you open an egg, this is correct. But as 5noman pointed out, the odds of flipping a coin with a 50% chance of being heads 20 times in a row and having it land heads every time is "1 in 2,097,152". So if you've flipped a coin 19 times and it's been heads 19 times, while the odds of it being heads on ANY flip is 1 in 2, the odds of it being heads 20 times in a row is that 1 in 2,097,152. And without doing the math, the same applies to the drake from the egg. Yeah it's 1 in 50 no matter how many times you crack one open, but the odds of it being tails, or no drake, a certain number of times IN A ROW past 50 becomes increasingly unlikely just like the coin toss. There's two different sets of odds here, the odds on each egg individually, and then the odds of a certain outcome a certain number of times in a row. If you read the section on the Gambler's Fallacy as linked below, it explains this far better than I can, explaining while each coin toss is 1 in 2, the odds of it being heads just THREE times in a row falls to 1 in 8, and continues to go up. "Law of Independent Trials" is absolutely true, so is the "Gambler's Fallacy", of course, we're just talking about 2 different sets of mathematical probabilities here.

By having lots of players, including me, in my guild transfer 4 of themselves over to the ptr and open their eggs on live as well. We managed to open up a total of 104 eggs, and here are the statistics of what we got.

Bud, please learn to do your math. You can run heroic Utgarde Pinnacle once a day, while you can get the egg once a week. Let's do the math here. In the SEVEN runs of Utgarde Pinnacle a week, you have a 7/35 chance of getting this mount. Now, in the SINGLE week that you obtain the egg, you have chance of getting it equivalent to 1/50.
Perhaps you should rethink your theory.

Got it from my first egg. was happy as hell, when i saw the purple letters.
I know some people are gonna downrate this because it "isnt useful information" but i disagree. When people tell how many eggs they had to open before they got the drake, it gives other people hoping to get this, and idea about the AVERAGE amount of eggs they need to open in order to get it. If they see alot of people posting that they got it within like 10 eggs, then they think, oh well, then MOST LIKELY i dont have to open 200 eggs before i see the mount drop, and that gives motivation to try getting it. Atleast it does for me.

You math people drive me nuts. It is a video game. I went into the Oracle rep. grind with the idea that i was going to play the lottery with the drake. 2 eggs later, I won! If you view it as playing the lottery, you don't get wrapped up in the numbers and it is much more fun. BTW, if you are a BM hunter and you eat one of these: Hallow's End Pumpkin Treat and get the "You feel larger... and oranger..." buff, go Bestial Wrath, then get on the drake and you are HUGE and red for a few seconds. I'll try to load a couple of screenshots to show you all.

It's funny how things work out sometimes...

Been buying this egg almost every week since soon after Wrath on my main but only seen tickbirds and aged yoke. Decided to build up my alts rep with the Oracles and buy the egg, and a week later guess whats in the first one? The sad thing is he doesn't even have his epic flyer so it gets to sit in my bags for now...

i actually didnt try for this for that long, i actually switched over to the wolvar for a little while just to be able to turn into a wolvar myself if i got the jar thing, and i just figured i would go for the violet proto drake

instead of waiting until next october, im getting my rep back with the oracles and trying for this again

my story is a perfect example of why u should never just give up on it, cause now im screwed on easy alternatives for a cool proto drake for another year, so if i wanna get a proto drake easily, this is my only alternative

then of course there is the blue proto drake, but i personally dont like that one, and plus u still gotta roll against 4 other people for it

and then there is the semi-easy red proto drake, but i hate running heroics now-a-days, so... blah =P

then there is the ulduar drakes, but im not a main-stream pve'er, so my chances of getting those are slim to none

so far, all the proto drakes u can get are as follows:
Green (this) (easy to get revered, just a low drop rate)
Red (Heroics) (semi-easy, depends on the groups u get in)
Blue (H UP) (easy, but u gotta roll on it with other people)
Violet (all the world event title acheivements) (semi-easy, just really long and time consuming)
the 2 from ulduar (10 or 25) (not easy)
Time-lost (drops from a rare in storm peaks) (not easy)
the 2 old ones from naxx (10 or 25, but no longer obtainable) (wasnt easy)

if i missed any, somebody please say so

so yeah, pretty much the only 4 cool flying mounts i have are the sunreaver dragonhawk, the albino drake, the argent hippogryph, and i guess the bronze drake is pretty cool too, kinda =P

but even if i dont get a proto drake any time soon, im good with my hippogrpyh, dragonhawk and albino drake =)

especially the albino one, theres an accomplishment for ya, not everybody can easily get 50 mounts

What you describe as "experimental probability" is, in fact, statistics. There's no such thing as "probability, looking back". Once it's happened it's a statistic, a fact.

You're mixing up a whole bunch of concepts here. When you're saying that (paraphrasing here) the more experiments you do, the closer the results are going to be to the probability involved, you're not describing what's happening here. What you're describing is that when you're throwing a dice, the percentage of sixes thrown is going to be closer to 16,166666667% when you throw it 10000 times than when you throw it 100 times. That's not the effect that's at play here.

You're mixing this up with the concept of ensembles. What that means is this: The more people you observe opening an egg, the closer you're going to get to 2% of people getting a drake. If 100 people open up an egg (in a single week, mind), you can have 0 drakes, or 6 drakes, or some other number. This means that the observed drop rate in a single week would be 0%, or 6% accordingly. However, if you watch 1,000,000 people open an egg, chances are the percentage of people getting a drake is going to be much closer to 2%. Certainly not 6% if the actual drop rate is 2%.

Now, none of this is relevant to a single person trying to get the drake. The only thing that's relevant is that EVERY SINGLE TIME HE OPENS THE EGG, THERE'S A 2% CHANCE HE'S GOING TO GET A DRAKE. Period. "Hang in there, it's bound to happen" means as much to the person opening up their first egg, as it does to the person opening up their 1000th.

The maths kinda looked correct and very intellectual, but fails right from the start. Maybe cause it's chance-calculation and no real math but just as usefull as letting the stars predict when to buy one of the eggs.
2% droprate means 1 every 50 eggs. But it's serverwide. If with 500 people an egg hatches, 10 get it, 490 don't.
The next week you get the same 'competition' since it can still drop with those who already have one. Maybe some will quit, maybe a lot will join, but that won't make a difference, since with lesser people lesser drops and more people more drops. 50 people 1 drop, 50,000 people 1,000 drops.
So like said the droprate will still be 2% with every egg you buy.
Some will get it several times, while others may even take longer then 1 year. If you would be the only one on your server getting the eggs you should have to get it within 50 eggs. But since most of us probably aren't, it's hard to really calculate when it will drop. So good luck, I guess that's the only thing you need.

Woohoo I just got mine today. When i first read that icantswim got his on his 3rd egg i was like yeah baby im gonna get mine too on the first few eggs. Six months later =( yes six months later and after countless aged yolks. I got the famous "egg cracked" message while I was in Warsong Gulch.

I opened it up and saw the proto picture and thought to myself, great another red proto pet, then i hovered my mouse over it, it was like i had woken up from a looooong deep sleep and and my eyes were blurry. I focused on the purple message very hard. "Reins of the Green Proto-Drake" woohoo, after 6 months finally i got it. I was so happy and lost track of guarding the Flag Carrier, needless to say, he died and so did I. The FC wasn't too happy, but I was =D

Today during Putricide attempts, our off-tank DC'd just before the pull. We were sitting around for a few minutes waiting for him to come back, and just to pass the time I decided to look through my bags and sort out the mass of gear I have. I saw my egg had hatched. There is a superstition in our guild that the drake is more likely to appear if you open the egg in a raid. So i clicked to open and was VERY surprised to see these reins appear.

The rest of my guild was shocked. "... what the hell are you serious?" was the first thing said on vent after about a minute of silence. "Ok, enough luck for you today, you automatically forfeit all loot"
Unfortunately I wasn't lucky enough to have the Unidentifiable Organ drop, but I was pretty stoked with this all the same!

To annoy a few people i managed to pick mine up on my first egg aswell after giving up looking the Time-Lost proto (perfect name for it!).

However, i don't know if i'm one of the only people who actually dislikes the mount? Anyone else not like the animations/size? Bit annoying after i really wanted one and once i got it only used it for a couple of hours! Having said that i barely spent anytime getting one unlike some other unlucky sods so alls not too bad!

I transferred my character from Horde to ALliance and I think it has screwed up my chances at this somehow.
I am 80 and cant figure out how to get in good wtih the oracles. I am hated by the other faction, but the oracles wont show me any quests. I completed Sholazar as my Horde. Now as Alliance I cant find ANY quests there at all.

In other zones, i have to redo some quests, from the other side, but in Sholazar, nothing and I cant get to the Oracles. What can I do, I want the green drake.

Any help? Thanks

So, I was trying to get this mount forever, but haven't had any luck. Then I deactivated my wow account because of school and stop thinking about it. Yesterday, however, I had 6 hours of waiting at the airport on my way from college, and since I had free WiFi, I thought of play some wow. I logged in, and saw my cracked egg, and clicked. And I saw the purple letters. I thought I was probably having a microsleep, due to my severe sleep deprivation, but after I asked the guy next to me to confirm I am not asleep, I made a leap of joy, got the attention of the whole waiting room, and probably looked like a hopeless nerd - but yes, I finally got the green flapper :)

If you are seeking this mount yet are also into achievements, I do suggest you go Frenzyheart before going Oracles so you can get: "Honorary Frenzyheart" "Frenzyheart Tribe" and "Mercenary of Sholazar" without having to wait a year or more for this mount in particular.

The Frenzyheart also have a once a week item, 恶心罐装酒, the desired loot being 狂心美酒, a 26% loot versus this 2% loot item.

I don't know why Heimdallens post was rated down; they might not have been spot on, but they were- at least, trying to be supportive.

We all know that each time you open an egg, you have a 1 in 50 or 2 in 100 chance of getting the drake. Mathematics aside, if one does not participate in the occasion, you get nothing.
Each time you open that egg, be it the first or the 300'th, you have a chance to get the drake.
The amount of times we open the egg will not increase the likely-hood of the odds getting better- or worse. Let's think of the egg as an event. We go, we buy the thing and then 7 days later, we open it.

I got my first egg about 3 months after I bought my first- maybe 12 or so eggs. I was buying one each week for my 80 hunter and my 80 druid. Co-mains as I enjoy both. However, I got my epic bird flight when it was a quest and I love the look and the feel of the bird. (alliance, so it is blue and gold). I was buying an egg for her on the off chance I might get lucky, but I so wanted the drake on my hunter.

I'm the mom, I've now seen 40 and I don't feel as quick or able to do some of the quests that take some better reflexes. (surely not saying that hitting forty sends your reflexes in the tank) There was a sons of hodir quest, (riding the dragon and fighting one too) some of those quests take me forever to master. Yet my son can do it in the blink of an eye.
I enjoy gaming, but I have a lot to learn.
I've managed to get some other quest mounts, but I felt this quest might be one good way for me to get the drake. Although it would involve a lot of luck.

By the second month I felt a bit dejected, especially so when many people would announce that they got the drake on the first or second egg. I decided to continue no matter what. What's to loose. In the third month my druid got a proto whelp. Not bad, they sell for 200g,maybe more. I opened my hunters egg and see yet another proto whelp.
All in all I got the better of the pets on both. Tho it was not the first time. About 3 hours later I moused over my hunters whelp and saw that the text was in purple. You can imagine the muffled excitement; then I actually began to read the text to see "Reins of the Green Proto-Drake". Never thought it would happen. It could, but would it?

Fast forward almost another 3 months. I still bought an egg on each character. Once I had forgotten to by a new egg and I'd always wondered it that was THE one. So I have been
constant. Three nights ago I saw that both eggs had hatched and my hunter got the egg yoke. OK. I somehow became distracted, but did get to shalazar and stood before the orical, bought my hunter her new egg. Tried to do the same for my druid and I got the message I could not have 2 eggs at the same time. I'd forgotten to open hers.
Without ceremony I opened it in order to buy a new one, and as I did I saw the profile of the the proto whelping. I thought. As I carefully read it, I saw that it was Reins of the Green Proto-Drake. I was excited, I was amazed.

The odds never changed. I didn't get the drake because I'd bought half a years worth of eggs. Not directly. Buying the egg was an occasion of sorts. If you did not do it, you could not benefit from it.
Each time you bought an egg, you had yet another chance. The same odds, but another chance.
If I had given up even a few weeks ago, I would have forfeited the chance to get the egg.

Putting aside mathematics, putting aside the gamblers fallacy; there's a fairly good chance someone will get the drake. It's a chance, not a guarantee or a probability.
It is a gamble, I suppose.
The only thing that is a given, is that if you don't buy it, you don't have that chance.
The best chance you have is not to give up. Buy it, put it and your excitement away and don't try to analyze it any further.
Or, you could always sit by frosthold and camp the Time Lost Proto Drake.

I have opened over 80 of these eggs and that along with the other players comments on this drop, would seem to indicate that the estimated drop rate for this item is more than a little off. A drop rate between 1 and .5 percent would seem more accurate, unless you have the good fortune of Blizz "LUCK" ):-(

Ive got it yesterday in the morning. I tought it was proto whelp again looking at the icon but then i saw purple words and i screaamed!
Opened it after 12-15 eggs. Dont loose hope u will get it 1 day just open it as fast as possible when it hatched.

After countless tickbirds two snakes and no proto whelp, I got a streak of for 4 weeks until finaly in the fifth (I came to expect another yolk) the Mount was in. I didn't even realize in the first minute.
Now, to say, I was opening these eggs, since second week after WotLK-release, my luck was quite miserable, to top it, I've got the Violett Proto-Drake since last Children's week, so I'll propably only start using the green one when Cata comes out and he'll be able to fly with 310% speed.

I think Blizz should decrease the Tickbird chance and slightly increase the chance of the protodrake. Or make him 310% now, for what it's worth.

got my proto drake today after all my hard work the first time i bought the egg it hatched into a proto drake at first i didnt know untill i looked at my chat log and saw in purple i was so happy and excited i ran screaming in my older brothers room lol it is a 280% speed mount it is extremly rare i opened it about exactly a few minutes as the same time i bought it.

As of patch 4.0.3a, the Mysterious Egg will only take 3 days to become a Cracked Egg, and the Reins of the Green Proto-Drake has a higher drop chance from the egg.

Since a recent patch you are able to obtain a new egg every three days, (once one is already cracked.) Not only that but the % of getting the Green Proto-Drake has been increased. So put those two facts together and im sure you will be receiving this mount on all your toons much quicker!

I get really sick, when i see people say, that it's not hard to get.
I been buying this crap egg since 2009 on 3 characters and none of my characters got the stupid egg.
Next time you even think about saying it's bloody easy to get, then shut it! It's not!

Do note That guild leveling is now happening throughout Cataclysm Guilds and a guild with the level of 4 Gains rep 5% (Guild lvl 14 gives 10%)

so in turn its
525x2+735=1785-per 1 day(all 3 dailies)
Which when its done over a few days
12000/1785
is like 6.7
which is 7Days
and saves you a day of farming Rep

I must say this is one of the few things that i have experienced nothing but bad luck with. I have all the Dragon Whelplings, I have the White Polar Bear from Brunnhildar, as well as the Fiery Warhorse, and the Zulian Tiger.... But i must say i have been exalted with oracles for well over a year now, and up until Cataclysm i had purchased one of these eggs every week the second i opened one, and since Cataclysm i have bought one every 3 days without fail. I have looted a ridiculous amount Aged Yolk, tickbirds, snakes and the occasional proto whelpling. But to this date i have still not gotten the Green Proto Drake. I had read that the drop rate had been increased and the time between eggs also decreased so i kept at it with renewed vigor, only to find that the end result had not changed much at all. I have opened upwards of 50-60 eggs now and i must say, this is becoming tedious, because i picked oracles before frenzyheart, and i wish to finish my reputation achievements, but i cant go ahead and get exalted frenzyheart until this mount drops... Stupid Blizzard.

got mine in the 5th egg - very lucky I guess. Very nice with only 3 day wait. I also got the Cobra companion and the white bird companion... only 2 times did I recieve the aged yolk.

As level-capped players are no longer "centralized" in Dalaran anymore, it can feel like a pain to make the trip to Sholazar Basin for your egg every three days. A boat from Stormwind to Borean Tundra and then a flight to Sholazar Basin isn't really bad, but might I suggest an alternate route people may not have thought of: If you're in Uldum say herbing or digging, flying north to Un'goro Crater and taking the waygate (yes the waygate still exists!) will take you directly to Sholazar, just south of the Oracle camp :)

Can now be found inside the new Bind on Account bags gained from Call to Arms random heroic dungeons, albeight as a random drop with a fairly low drop-chance along with other mounts, pets, gold and consumables.

So much for my 2 years of farming those blasted eggs just to get it in the second month of Cataclysm. <_<

This mount can be found in the Cracked Egg that the Oracles in Scholozar Basin it only has a small chance of hatching though. The egg can be opened in 3 days as of cata. Your very first egg is the one with the best luck, the more eggs you get, the harder it is to get a the mount and you keep getting stupid yolk.... or atleast thats whats happening to me. It's nice to buy and wait for while camping the time-lost proto drake.

Just want to say ive been "farming" satchels since they first came out for a mount. Finally got this bad boy on my alt pali after spending 20-30 mins making my way to Dal. Yesterday, after a year of farming, it dropped. My guildy was somewhat cheesed off because she'd been farming it for 2 years, and no dice for her. Basically, all I can say to all of you people who want this mount has been said countless times above - just keep trying. I was actually going to give up if that particular egg didn't give the mount - but lo and behold, it dropped. Perseverence will triumph over evil drop-rates (hopefully). Keep trying!

EDIT: And to those who consider the flight to Sholazar to be a pain, it actually isn't that bad. From SW to Sholazar takes 5 mins - tops. It's especially fine if you're just sitting in a heroic que.

Id like to say that you must be 77 to start the dailies but you can do the main story line at 76. The dailies start after you kill "Artruis the Heartless" so if you complete the main story at 76, you wont get the daily quests and you must go back and kill him again at 77 or higher.

I'm not sure exactly how long I have been buying these eggs, but I figured out I had bought close to 100 eggs before finally getting it today in the middle of a ZG run (no one said grats!).

That means this mount cost about 300 gold; BUT! I was a lucky dog with these eggs. I got Aged Yolk maybe two or three times. The rest was ALL companion pets. I only ever saw the Proto-Drake Whelp once and that got my heart to skip a beat until I realized it wasn't an epic dragon. /sadface

On my realm, these pets consistently sell for 50g each. Lets say it takes you 100 tries to get this mount, but along the way you get 50 pets. That is a 2200 gold profit for hanging on so long and being so darn unlucky (if you subtract rough costs for buying the eggs themselves)!

So if you aren't seeing this mount, don't give up! If you turn lemons into lemonade, you could actually be getting paid to get this mount!

So I like many others have been opening eggs for who knows how long. I opened over a hundred on multiple toons and all i got was a variety of glorified pigeons (tickbirds) and enough aged yoke to feed an army. While those little protodrake hatchlings sell well on th AH i had no luck getting the mount. Every time i would see someone with it or read how they got it so easily it would just tick me off. So today i remeber i had an egg that hatched a couple days ago and i logged into open it and couldnt believe my eyes. There is was. Finally! Needless to say i had to read it a few times before i believed it. Dont give up if u were like me having no luck. Keep trying when you do eventually get this all your patience will have paid off i promise!

Scored this morning - finally, FINALLY, after more than a year and a half of patiently buying eggs (hit exalted with Oracles in March 2010), waiting each week with hope and innocence in my eye, later seeing the hatching time go down from a week to 3 days with renewed hope and still, STILL getting cobra after cobra, tickbird after tickbird, yolk after yolk. But no mount. This had become a running joke with my guildies, all of whom had the mount on their mains and knew it was the bane of my existence ever since hitting exalted with the Oracles. And today, after yet another frustrating run at Coren Direbrew that resulted in no Brewfest Ram (another sore point, can you tell?) I remembered the egg in my bags. Cracked it open almost as an afterthought (might as well double the disappointment for one morning, I figured), and stared in disbelief at the screen. I mounted that sucker IMMEDIATELY to make sure this wasn't some sick joke on the developers' part. Nope. Proto-drake - GREEN. I swear, if I could I'd rename this mount "Time-Lost", and my Time-Lost mount "Lucky" I'd do it in a hearbeat, given how easily I acquired the TLPD compared to this.

This is what a Cubs fan will likely feel like when they win the WS - 1) Is this real? and 2) Now I can quit WoW in peace. But not before I switch factions to the Frenzyheart, and kill EVERY @#%^ ORACLE I SEE on my way to exalted. With my Oracle orphan companion summoned so he can watch the genocide.

Three months of cracking one of these every three days or so and still no mount. I'm not giving up (not by any means) but I'll be darned if I'm not sick to DEATH of egg yolks and tickbird hatchlings. I've been putting the hatchlings in the guild bank, I've got so many of the dang things.
The upside is that I did get the protodrake whelp companion and it's super cute. =D

Def. worth the wait/frustration/chance of never getting one at all for this mount. I've seen ONE on my server and it was cooler looking than any of the other protodrakes except the violet one... which I haven't seen at all yet. I aim to be #2. (let a girl have her pipe dreams...)

I feel a little lucky:) i got the drake in my first egg on my warrior and some from my guild buyed over 100 eggs but got nothing..

I figured out something for the Rep with the oracles, when i did the daily q with my rogue it took about a week to be revered (lvl 85) but with my Warrior it only took 2 days (lvl 79) so i think that the lower lvl you are the more Rep you get.

Just for comparison, it took my mage probably about 3 weeks of egg opening before the drake showed itself for me. However, this was 4 months AFTER I had all ready been cracking eggs with my warrior with no luck. It's been another 2 months and it STILL hasn't dropped for the warrior.

So, take from this what you will. 3 weeks for one char and 6 months with zero for the other. It's random as hell and you just have to keep being persistent. I think the key is to give up and forget a drake even hatches from it. Maybe try for the proto drake whelp and be disappointed when the mount comes. ^^

A new thing to consider is the addition of the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries. I am a healer and I got it on my 3rd or 4th satchel despite the 0.3% drop rate--wasn't even expecting anything cool so of course I had a heart attack when I got it, hadn't been getting eggs from the Oracles or anything.

Now you might be saying "oh no I'm a DPS, this method will never do anything for me!" However if you have an alt that can tank/heal/whatever, the satchels are BoA--so with every satchel you get from tanking/healing you can NON-auto-loot it to check what's inside, close the loot box if it's something you want on your main, and send it over.

Of course it's still way easier to open eggs and hope to get this awesome mount, but if you want to have a go at it this way, it worked for me :) Maybe I am just lucky with green dragons, as my emerald whelpling dropped after only 50 kills...hmm...

You need to remember, you must never give up no matter how many eggs you buy. I repeated to myself, " It doesn't matter what I get, all I know is one day I will get it. 100 eggs or 1. I will get it. "
If you keep that spirit, you will get it for sure!

I got mine tonight after farming on and off for a year. I don't know if this actually had to do anything with it, but I was mounted on my Blue Proto Drake when I remembered to click the egg. 99% sure it's just coincidence, but hey it never hurts to try. If you have ANY proto drake in your possession, mount it and click on your egg. Any bit of extra luck helps right?

I guess this guy is so awkward on the ground, he/she just doesn't want to let you on if you're not flying. Just so everyone knows, you won't be able to use this to terrorize the opposition in PvP....

Just finished the quest chain to unlock Dailies with The Oracles, and finished my first round of Dailies. There have been changes to acquiring your first Egg since most comments I've read have been posted.

I looked at the items sold by the Quartermaster, and the Egg no longer requires Exhaulted Rep to purchase, it is now Revered. This will reduce the amount of Dailey grinding required by roughly a week for most players.

As I am sure you already know, there was also an increase in the drop chance of the Proto, and you only wait 3 days versus the original 7 days. I am going to buy eggs until I find one of these sexy mounts, and will update as soon as I get one on how many eggs it took!

I just wish Blizzard would have a better system in place for multiples.

I collect and sell all kinds on pets on the Neutral and Horde Auction Houses. So every character that has a high enough level gets 神谕者 rep to buy the 神秘的卵. So far only one character has gotten 绿色始祖幼龙的缰绳, but he has gotten it five times.

You can't Auction it, you can't send it to another character on your account, you can't even sell it to a vendor.

Having to delete such a fine creature, while so many go without is just criminal.

After getting nothing but tickbird hatchlings for like 15/16ths of all my eggs, and aged yolks for all of the most recent (like 5 eggs in a row :/), I finally got mine today on my Draenei Death Knight after a good month or so. It is also my first proto-drake on any of my characters, so I am very excited as I absolutely LOVE the proto-drake models.

Like many, I have been trying to hatch this since Wrath. I finally got mine today, and it nearly got me kicked from a Dragon Soul run.

We were getting ready to start Madness when I remembered that my egg should be ready to hatch. I open it and out pops the mount. I stared at the icon sitting in my bags and couldn't believe that I had finally gotten it. Then somebody in raid chat started shouting.

"WTF! WHY DIDN'T ANYONE ELSE GET TO ROLL ON THAT? F*#%ING NINJAS!"

Took a while to finally explain what had happened and get people calmed down. Funny twist is later I received the DS mount by accident and didn't realize. I opened my bags, and saw a mount sitting there. I thought that I had learned the Green proto-drake, but maybe I was wrong. I went to right-click the icon when alarms went off. It didn't look the same. And why was every one yelling in chat again?

Reins of the green proto drake arent so hard to get maby it take short time maby it take's long time it got 5% drop and the egg cost 3g and you can just buy 1 egg at the time and after 3 days it hatchs and you can also get companiens like proto drake whelp :)

Since people are complaining about those "got it on my 1st/2nd/3rd egg" so to make everyone feel better, I've been getting eggs since around the end of the Argent Tournament and have never seen a mount. As of today, I have plenty of proto-drakes, enough to say F*** this mount in it's dirty ass

Upon questing in Sholazar Basin you will open up a quest chain which will allow you to pick between two different reputations. If you wish to have a chance at this mount you need to work towards getting Revered with The Oracles. Once you become friendly with The Oracles you will be able to access the Quartermaster. You must become Revered+ with The Oracles in order to buy 神秘的卵 from the Quartermaster. The 神秘的卵 takes 3 days to hatch, so you must wait those 3 days before you can open it up and see what is inside. After the 3 days you are able to open it up, if you do not have your mount, go back to the Quartermaster and buy another Egg. The 神秘的卵 cost 3G each time you purchase it.

This mount also has a chance to drop from a 一包神秘的异域物品 which you can get from que'ing for a random dungeon by yourself at the proper time if you class/spec allows.

Please keep in mind that if someone got theirs on their first or second try doesn't mean you will as well. Some people are lucky and that happens and others wait a very long time to get theirs. Also, come MoP mounts are shared cross characters so if one of your characters gets one and your other has bad luck, come MoP all of them will have it.

I've been trying for this mount since around February of 2009, shortly after Wrath of the Lich King released. At first, I bought my egg religiously every 7 days, while others in my guild got it in their first few eggs. When the egg timer decreased to 3 days, I slacked a bit and still average about 5 to 6 egg purchases a month. Still, no drake. I will say that over the course of the 3 years I have made tons of money off of the pets, especially the Proto-Drake Whelpling, which could sell for up to 1000g on my server back when most people had no idea where it came from. I guess that the drop rate of the 绿色始祖幼龙的缰绳 is higher than the 5% listed by wowhead.
Why do I think so?

The item says it is unique - so I guess that also after 'learning' the mount you won't be able to loot any other reins.
So I also guess that the loot table wont contain the reins anymore.

I also think that most player will continue to buy the egg every 3 days. If the mount cannot drop anymore then the Wowhead looter cannot be correct - the drop rates should be higher.

If this all is the case then I guess that 始祖龙宝宝 and 绿色始祖幼龙的缰绳 have both the same drop chance of about 7.5%.

I am one of those people who rants at those who pop in here to say I got this on my first, third, fifth try! Or just happened through and there was the time lost proto drake and i wasn't even looking for it! don't u hate those? Well people told me to expect to get this drake in a year or so. So after 3 companion proto-drakes and 3 sulfurious eggs, I got another proto-drake. Went to move it in my bag, after all I was trying to do bgs for the CW holiday, and YOWZA it was the Reins of! Imagine my shock. And here I am to say, it happened to me in 3 weeks >:>.

Got the proto drake in an egg, decided to farm oracles up to exalted for the second time
oracles -> wolvar -> oracles then got mount -> few months I decided to farm rep to exalted.
Got the pet today, even after I learned it. It will continue to drop even after you have learned it!

I was lucky enough to receive this on my 2nd egg. My first was the tickbird hatchling which I had already acquired from the auction house so I sold it off to a friend for 40gold. This mount is worth buying the eggs as they are very cheap. I thought i would have to wait a long time to get it but I guess its the luck of the draw. I would be willing to buy as many as I could to get it. I reckon I will continue to buy them until i get the proto drake whelp.

I got my rains this week, after having bought the eggs on and off for the last three years. This week I got a second one... Don't get me wrong, I love my green protodrake, but damn... I just got this mount and it is always the first ability I click on. I spent a lot of time on various schemes to get a proto-drake, and I have to advise that this is the easiest. You only have to be revered with the Oracles to get the egg and the egg only costs 2.25G, and you've got a possibility of getting a proto-drake! Mine came on the third egg, which I know is a statistical anomaly, but either way, the vanity pets are useful, too, and some sell for lots of gold on the AH.

Okay iv only been going for this for like 2/3 weeks now and have got 2 white tick birds, one cobra hatchling and two aged yolks, the thing that annoys me was that I told my stepdad and he got his on 3rd egg and then got another one in a diff character, to say I was gutted would be an understatement :( owell il kep going :)

I've been farming this mount for 4 months, and I got it 3 days ago. I got so happy so I flew to scholazar basin to buy a new egg. The pets still sell good. I waited 3 days and the reins dropped again:O now they are in my bank! useless, but I just cant delete this item:) good luck about getting this:)

So it can be found in the egg even after you know it already.
It cannot be sold - so it has now less value than 陈年蛋黄 ;-)

At this point in the game, the Reins are still soulbound and cannot be sold on the auction house. This may be working as intended and not a bug.

In addition, you cannot carry more than one set of Reins. I originally learned the Green Proto-Drake back in 2010; I received another set earlier this year and stashed it in my bank, thinking that at some point I would be able to sell it in trade or put it on the auction house. Today I received a third set of Reins; however - the Mysterious Egg will not open. Instead, I get an error message that says, "You cannot carry any more of these items."

I dont know if they did up the drop rate from the egg since 5.0.4 but i got it 2 days after the release. It took me 35-40 eggs or so.

I believe Blizz just needs to come up with something that is more rewarding than sitting and waiting (now 3 days) for the egg to crack open. Like more rewards out of it.

Lets say

1% Chance some kind of super drake
5% Chance some kind of normal drake
20% Chance a "special" drake that cannot fly but run only.

Got this mount from the Satchel of Exotic Mysteries, i don't know if they have changed any of the drop rates for it in mists, but i have noticed that i have been getting much better loot as of the launch of mists of pandaria. good luck to all those who are trying for it :)

The Green Proto-Drake is now sold on the Black Market Auction House. It's listed by Mei Francis and the minimum bid is 20,000 gold. (Of course, since it's the Black Market AH, you will not see the Drake for sale all the time.)

By coincidence I received this from a Satchel of Exotic Mysteries. If that wasn't enough, I opened a second satchel I'd gotten earlier in the day and inside was a Reins of the Blue Drake!

I've hatched numerous eggs trying to get the Green drake and have killed Malygos 50+ times and never got the mount. Now I get both these in the same day just minutes apart.

Hi guys, I'd just like to give a few pieces of information, just in case you don't already know it. IF you do want to get this from the satchel of exotic mysteries, your reputation with the oracles does not matter in the least, what does matter, is your luck, and based of the 0.3% drop chance from the satchel, I'm sorry to say, that you may not have much of that, but don't fret, I got it from the satchel because I was lucky enough, so it IS indeed possible. Just keep on trying. Open eggs, try getting the satchels whenever a tank/heal spot is open for a dungeon, do whatever you need to to try and attain this mount. I was quite happy when I first got it, because, unlike a lot of people, I cannot play the whole year, a lot of these nice proto-drake mounts require a lot of farming, and obviously, I don't have the time for this because I can only play during summer break, and winter break, so roughly, 3 months of membership a year, quite small compared to others. So if you do have a situation similar to mine, you may want this to be a Proto-drake to aim for, it's physical appearance is decent, not much of a match for the ones from Ulduar - (Rusted and Ironbound). This is a a pretty rare, yes, "pretty" rare drop, however, you can still get it. So try and do whatever is possible so that you can get this mount, get revered with the oracles - (This doesn't take TOO long, I don't really remember exactly how long it takes though). Or you can go for the satchel, which is a significantly lower drop rate. The Timelost Proto-drake may be another mount to aim for, however, it does have the tendency to make you have a lot of "time lost." Good luck mount hunting my fellow friends, and may the odds be ever in your favor.

Got mine on the second egg. I forgot about it for about 48 hours, so perhaps the longer you wait to open it the better chance? My first one i got yolk and I opened that one the second I was able...just a thought.

Wow I must be really unlucky. I've been opening eggs every three days for the last two years minus a few months when I took a break from wow and I still haven't got my green proto drake yet. Everytime I open an egg to find an aged yolk or another pet I die a little inside.

So I seem to always get the Reins of the Green Proto Drake within six or seven eggs. I had three pre-Pandaria. On my last pre-Pandaria (before-account-wide-mounts) toon, I got my fifth or sixth egg, opened it up, and promptly hatched this guy. I was so happy I took a joyride up through Icecrown, and over into Storm Peaks, and no lie--on my maiden Protodrake journey, Time-Lost was flying all alone. I kited him and killed him, and never used that poor Green Proto again :). Two drakes in like ten minutes. Best WoW day ever.

I've really just accepted the fact that I have no "luck" when it comes to these random mount drops in any method at all. I just started pretending that I'm riding my Green Proto Drake but really it is just a Green Wind Rider. Whatever gets me through the day, I suppose.

I had terrible luck with this during WotLK on my Warrior/Druid (200+ eggs), but I decided to get Exalted with the Oracles on my Rogue and I got the Green Proto-Drake and the Proto-Drake pet back to back, on my second and third egg. Don't give up hope, everybody. It only took me 4 years!

Just started my grind this week and one day when passing the BMAH decided to put in a bid for an unclaimed box. Wake up in the morning to my winning bid and inside my very own, beautiful Green Proto drake.

Talk about saving time. I was dreading this grind since I have always had such terrible RNG luck.

I can confirm that having never gotten an egg, it appears there is a 100% non-drop rate on this method of obtaining the mount, since I have yet to obtain the mount. I will update if this condition changes.

Got this on my 3rd egg with Oracle rep. Interestingly enough, the same day, someone else on my server had just gotten the mount and was showing off in Org... I saw them, thought damn, better check that egg on my alt, and voila, the reins dropped... so there might be a possibility that when this procs off the Oracle eggs, it's server wide.

Can anyone confirm if this drops from the if your rep is only revered with The Oracles? I have been buying and opening these on 9 characters every three to four days for about 2 months now. Before I got "serious" I was doing it on 3 characters for months. I know random is random, but it's getting a little silly.

I only got my rep up to revered on these toons as that was all that was needed to buy the eggs, but now I'm wondering if there is a need to be exalted instead...

I bought this egg several months ago. During that time my bags were pretty full and messy. I decided to put the egg in my bank. It would be 'useless' due to 3 days hatchtime. But some things that should not have been forgotten were lost, so did my egg. Today, several months later I found this egg and openened it... the Green Proto Drake was mine. Probably five months is enough to grew to an Adult Green Proto Drake. So... Moral of the story. Buy an egg. Wait for it atleast four months, wait another month and open it. Congrats on your Green Pro.... O wait RNG...

So I wait for Loque to spawn things led to another and blah. Bought an egg, got baby proto.
Cute stuff.

I just can't believe this drop rate... I've been doing it every 7 (now 3) days on 4 alts constantly for years....I've got more proto hatchling, birds, cobras's and rotten egg to fill all of their backpacks (every couple of months i mail it all to an alt and Ah it off)

It just doesn't seem right, am i supposed to do a special dance or something before opening the eggs?

You might have already figured this much out, but you do need to be revered with The Oracles in order to purchase the Mysterious Egg from Green (which will, of course, turn into the Cracked Egg which has a chance of containing the Reins of the Green Proto-Drake).

75 attempts and just got it! I see other comments of people getting it in the 80's and 90's (one guy said 200 but that is extreme) so you have to be committed to do this. I had my one alt assigned to this and his hearthstone has been set to Nesingwary Base Camp to make it easier to go buy the egg twice a week.

This is to confirm I got it in BFA 8.1.5 on the third egg purchased while looking for the pets as I had bought the mount from the BMAH. Such a waste of RNG. Kept it in bank anyways :)

I found that a good way to cut travel time to the Oracle vendor (吉恩) that sells the 神秘的卵 is to start the quest 赫米特·奈辛瓦里哪去了？ and never complete the chain. This essentially provides you with a portal from the Dalaran flight area via 大法师伯塔鲁斯 to West Sholazar Basin. From there its a quick flight straight East to the vendor (coordinates ). Good luck with the RNG.

On a hunch after telling guildies how I obtained mine, I came to wowhead to see if anyone else reported the same thing. Alas, I don't see any commenters with the same experience. I got mine from a blingtron 4000 gift package several years back. I'm pretty sure it was right when the 4k blingtron was released bc it was one of the first times I had seen one. So it can drop from it but when I looked at the 4ks loot table, the proto drake isn't listed. People are also saying they received the Geosyncronous World Spinner from the 7k version and a few had also stated other blingtrons dropped it as well. That mount is also not included on any blingtron gift package loot tables either. Happy hunting!

I got it in 10 attempts, one character and like half a year (because the travel to the vendor is so annoying when you don't need to farm nexus).

People are lazy and/or have too much gold: This mount just went for 177K on the BMAH of my mid-populated server (EU Azjol-Nerub).

(On my server, this is already the lower/mid price range of ~1% raid drop mounts, like 奥妮克希亚座龙缰绳 and such.)
