When farming for your Vibrant Plumes for your Darkmoon Faire Necklace, you'll find yourself with PLENTY of mageweave if you farm as early as 50 at the Harpy location in far northwest Ferelas.

These are all decent spots mentioned above, but none compare to the Pirates in Tanaris. They are closely grouped, and have a very fast respawn rate. As a 70 Mage I was able to farm over 15 stacks in an hour.

As a 70 Warlock just dotting and kiting I got the best drop rate from the Dunemaul Ogres in Tanaris. I tried the Pirates and although the respawn rate is fast the drop rate just wasn't the greatest IMO.
The Ogres had a better drop rate and still a very fast respawn rate.

The pirates in Tanaris were the best for me as a level 70 mage. Plus, they drop volatile rum, so you can get smashed while your grind.

Guy's It's much easier and faster to Farm them from the level 41-43 Furlbogs (or Whatever they are) in Feralas. I stumbled upon them last night looking for a quest, they drop alot, and respawn fast. Some drop 3-4 most drop atleast 2, and it doesn't require a level 60 or 70..In 10-15 minutes my 46 Shammy farmed 2 stacks.. no joke. Very rarely do they just drop money, but even if a few don't drop any, you make it up on the ones that drop 3 and 4 at a time.

Been to a load of spots, and if you have the damage, Sunken Temple is a great place to get mageweave, those little demon slaves off the trolls in the instance itself ive noticed drop 3 - 4 each two or three you kill. So a nice place to go to

My favorite place to farm Mageweave is Nethergarde Mine as Bloodlot mentioned above.
It's only available to Horde as the MoBs are friendly to Alliance which means there's almost never any competition. There's tons of MoBs in there and they're fairly easy to kill even at lower levels and super easy with AOE at high levels. They have a good Mageweave droprate, if you're a miner there's Mithril and Thorium veins, and there's a chance to get one of the Draenethyst Spheres for some extra greens and perhaps a Blue.
After the Shattering, my new favorite place to farm Mageweave for high level characters is Stratholme.
One 20 minute run (15 minutes of which was spent looting.
I'd kill for a "Loot All in vicinity" function
) killing just the trash on dead side netted me 16 stacks of Mageweave. Wear a home city tabard and you can farm some rep while you're at it.

If you're questing in hinterlands, the vilebranch trolls are a good sources as well. You have to kill 45 of them for a quest there...if you do that, you'll probably end up with 2-3 stacks. Not the best aoe spot though.

If you are lower level (40-42) and trying to grind mageweave for tailoring (which you will) the best spot to farm is the ogres in Feralas at Gordunni Outpost (north of Camp Mojache). They are 40-43 and give mageweave on a consistent basis, moreso than the gnolls, plus they have considerably less HP (especially the mages).

I have a 70 frost mage, and i found that farming the ogres was a very easy choice. The ogres (in tanaris, dunemaul) are more spread out so it wasn't very effective to AoE them too much, so if i needed to drink or go and grab a few guys i would just use my elemental and bring em to me.. throw out an arcane explosion or blizzard and get mageweave. i farmed about 15 stacks in an hour doing this constantly.

The best place to farm mageweave is in the Hinterlands, the trolls drop a ton of it, especially the ones in Jintha'Alor. It's also profitable for a tailor because these trolls also drop the wildvine you use for the dreamweave set, which sells for 15g per chestpiece on my server. However, I believe most of the guys in Jintha'Alor are elite, so it helps if you're a higher level or get a friend to help you out.

Jadefire Glen in Felwood, just north of Deadwood Village (the Southern one).
It's about 1min run from Emerald Sanctuary, huge groups fairly tightly packed, relatively quick respawn time. Only thing I really disliked was there's alot of casters, which makes it a bit of work to bunch them all up - but even that's good in the sense that even if you're a squishy Mage with crappy gear, you'll resist 90% of their damage and the melees don't hit that hard. So you can basically go as long as your mana bar lasts, and they respawn fast enough that you'll never be sitting around playing with yourself for too long.

I got 145 Mageweave Cloth in about 1h and 15min by farming it off of the Nethergarde soldiers, officers, foreman and clerics. Also, like Bloodlot said, the alliance cave just north of the Nethergarde camp (around 53, 12) you can get tons of it. I was getting 2 to 3 mageweave per kill. I gave Sunken Temple a shot since the alt I'm farming for is a tailor/enchanter and the BoE greens from dungeons make for nice enchanting mats.
After 20 minutes of that I had 1 stack of mageweave and 2 greens so I hearthed to Shat, ported to Org and flew to Tanaris (7 minute flight).
I followed the circular edge of the Dunemaul compound killing the ogres one by one in cat form. Occasionally I would lap myself and there were no more ogres on the edge so I cut into the middle for a while and back out to my position on the edge. When my hearth was back up I left.
So thats about 45 minutes of killing ogres and I'm looking at 12 stacks of mageweave. Minus the 1 from Sunken Temple makes 11.

Yeah, I went to most of the places suggested here for farming, and the ogres were good, but I'd have to say, the best, and most FUN of all of the places is definetely the pirates in Lost Rigger Cove in Tanaris.
If you're high enough, mass killing is no problem at all, and even if not, you can pick them off. Not only is there a high drop rate for mageweave (way more than the ogres or bandits as far as my killing has shown me..), but you get rum! Who doesn't love rum?

I tried all the places listed above and found that Jintha'Alor was the best for a variety of reasons.
1) No competition - On my server, at least, the Tanaris ogres and pirates are very popular places for grinding/farming. Jintha'Alor is invariably empty so you have all the spawns to yourself.
2) Higher level mobs - Since the trolls are 47-51, you get more mageweave per kill, on average, than you do on the mid 40s Tanaris mobs.
3) Mining/Herbing - I ended up with several stacks of mithril/truesilver/thorium in addition to the mageweave I was after. There are also plenty of ghost mushrooms in the cave for the herbalists.
4) Wildvine - These sell for 1-3g each on the AH and you can net 20+ per hour.
I made a continual circuit of the top two levels including the cave and, after two hours, I ended up with 24 stacks of mageweave.

Another excellent place to farm mageweave for frost mage is the Slagpit in Searing Gorge. All the mobs in there are melee, which makes it easy to kill plenty of mobs per pull. Though the slaves are not aggressive, I found it easy to just run around pulling them with ice lance and kill them in groups of 5 or 6 (to prevent them from running back).
Just do it from one end to the other killing all the slaves in lower floor and other mobs in upper floor and they should respawn fast enough, so you don't have to wait for respawns. Even though the slaves have lower drop rate for the cloth, the rate at which you can kill them more than makes up for it.

If you aren't an AoE class, the trolls in Jintha'Alor (Hinterlands) are a good source of single target kills. I got 6 stacks (120 Mageweave) in about 30 min as a lvl 70 rogue farming for a tailoring alt. Lots of Wildvine and Flask of Big Mojo, too.

The sandfury trolls outside of ZF in Tanaris are no longer elite, however their loot tables do not seem to have been updated. Mageweave (And sometimes silk) drops up to four at a time.
In addition, these trolls also have a fairly good drop rate of
Flask of Mojo
, which is much in demand by jewel crafters as it is the main component in
Aquamarine Signet

I'm really surprised this hasn't been mentioned (or maybe I missed it) but, Zul'Furrak (ZF) is my favorite place to go at 70 to farm. If you can handle the elites in there (which I'm sure most 70s can), you'll walk out with plenty of mageweave. It also has the benefit of being an instance so there is no competition. If you like to AoE grind, you also have the benefit of no leashing on mobs.
My favorite thing to do as a 70 Destro warlock, is ride around and gather up a huge group of trolls, ride to a clear spot (ie the beginning of the instance), and start using SoC as they approach. By the time they reach you, you should have a couple seeds up. Add as many seeds as you like (the pushback changes make this actually possible then pre-3.0) and either wait for them to detonate or speed up the process with another AOE(Shadowfury or RoF). Finish off the ranged mobs and voila, tons of loot to grab. :)
Lather, rinse, repeat

As a feral druid who can pull half of ZF and kill them all without dieing, that's the best place to farm.
In 30 minutes, 2 resets, I got 8 stacks of mageweave cloths.
On top of that, I got 6 stacks of silk cloths, one stack of flask of mojos and bunch of boe greens that I can DE and sell for money. Really profitable.
Edit: As of cataclysm, ZF is a bad spot now as they have dismounting shots. It seems there isn't a great instance spot for this after the instance level change.

Update to the Garrison Armory (Horde only) post:
Exact entrance: 53.7, 12.0 (Eastern Kingdoms - Blasted Lands)
1 Hour results:
218 x Mageweave Cloth
4 x Random Greens (iLvl 46-50, LvlReq 41-45)
8 x Random Greys (2.06g worth)
1 x Aquamarine
2 x Mana Potion ()
I didn't check my starting gold but I'd guess the total haul at around 8g.
Summary:
I haven't tried the other locations, so I don't know how they drop. I chose this location because it had (up until now) the seemingly best reviews, so that's what I went with. Anyway, I ran counter-clockwise, or with the wall to your right side, the entire time and it went great. As a level 66 blood spec'd Death Knight I was able to kill in roughly 3 seconds average (2 moves usually). After each death/loot the next monster would usually never be more than 3 or so seconds movement. From what I've read, the pirates area is great for AoE folks, but as a melee master, this area is where it's at. I farmed 218 mageweave cloth in an hour if that says anything (10.9 stacks per hour) at a *semi* leisurely pace. By that I mean I was watching a movie and moving only with my mouse and a kill macro bound to scroll up/down. So yeah...great spot. 10/10 for farming mageweave.
Sub-note:The first time I farmed here for about an hour I only got 1 x green item, the second (this time that I'm posting about) I got 4. Just thought I'd put that out there for you to think about. Magewave the previous time was pretty consistent with this report as well.
(Please - If you're going to support wowhead at least write complete, legible reports like this. Include details and all of that. If you're going to spend an hour farming, why not spend 5m vs 5s writing up the report so that everyone else doesn't have to do it too, eh?)

I didn't have any Mageweave drop, though a minimal supply of Runecloth dropped. Obviously Stratholme would be the go, I just found it interesting that Runecloth was dropping. I recommend against Felwood for Mageweave.

I tried tanaris, dunemaul and southsea dudes, but it didnt go that well, so I thought, why not give Jintha a go, I'm glad I did, you get like 7 stacks for a sweep up the cliff. I didn't collect anything else so I'm no use for farming cash or whatever.

Jintha'Alor Mageweave Run
Glenlivet -- lvl 70 Feral Druid
time spent: 30 minutes (just enough to clear to the top -- skipped non-humanoids unless they were in the way)
cash from looting: 4g 21s 07c
80 x mageweave cloth (4 stacks)
43 x troll sweat (gak -- only stacks in 5)
12 x cured ham steak
11 x wildvine (about 9 g on my server)
12 x flasks of big mojo
2 x flasks of mogo
3 x moonberry juice
4 x superior healing pots
1 x greater mana pot
4 x tender wolf meat
1 x green (Hibernal Pants)
5 x misc greys (~2g)
Conclusions: pretty good place to loot mageweave. Bit of a run back to the mailbox (horde is much closer). Have lots of bag space or be prepared to toss troll sweat.

I use ZF to farm as a holy priest. I run in to the grave area, since it is highly packed, and open all the graves. I do it in 3 groups and nab 1.5-3 stacks per instance. I skip the rest though because it involves making casters stop casting and corralling everything. Holy Nova takes out all the zombies in a jiffy. You do get a bit of silk here too though
Don't forget to loot the graves too for more cloth!

...as long as you can solo Sunken Temple or bring some friends. I am a lvl 80 Hunter
When you head into the instace take the left hallway straight ahead of you and go up the steps until you get to the big circle with mobs, and the mini-bosses for jammal the prophet. All you do is run the circle, kill the mini bosses, then run back down and leave, reset it then head back in and repeat.
Statistics for the run, this was just 3 of my runs
Time:
Cloth Farmed:
13mins 48
13mins 84
14mins 68
It was supper easy for me since i am a hunter an was also specced into volley, but any class should be able to AOE them down fast only approx. 6k hp or less on most mobs.
Hope this Helps!~

Dungeon wise,
Zul'Farrak
seems so far to be a decent place to farm mageweave. Because you can mount in there, you can pull many trolls quickly and there seems to be plenty of mobs, especially if you keep opening all of the shallow graves near
Witch Doctor Zum'rah
to kill the undead trolls in them until they no longer respawn. You'll even get some silk to boot.
Edit:
I didn't need silk anymore so I decided to try
Sunken Temple
during one farming session. I only ran the area around the troll minibosses and then the undead trolls in the room with
Jammal'an the Prophet
. I completely skipped even killing the dragons up to Jammal'an.
I didn't time myself nor think to keep track of gold, but after two runs of just these two areas, I ended up with 124 mageweave cloth and 5 greens.

At the Dunemaul Compound in Tanaris, I farmed for about an hour and a half and received:
Mageweave Cloth - 200
Cured Ham Steak - 16
Moonberry Juice - 10
Grey Items - 9
Superior Healing Potion - 6
Greater Mana Potion - 3
Green items - 3
OOX-17/TN Distress Beacon (Starts a Quest) - 1
8 gold
I would like to note that this farming was done on a level 62 character, and that a level 80 would have higher numbers of mageweave in a shorter period of time. The respawn rate on the ogres is quite fast. Also, if you care about your fellow player, try to avoid killing the named mob in the small cave at the rear of the compound. It's a quest mob of very little value to you, and has a fairly long respawn time. Don't inconvenience people who are questing where you're farming!
In addition, there was a Truesilver Deposit in the center of the compound from which I received Truesilver Ore x 3 and an Aquamarine.
The ogres drop nothing but Mageweave. No silk! <3
It's worth noting that this area is very good for long periods of farming because of the low frequency of vendor trash drops, which is important for long farming sessions in that your inventory will not fill up if you decide to use auto loot to save time.
Happy farming!

If you are a moderately geared hybid lvl 80 class with some kind of aoe, I would recommend farming ZF for Mageweave cloth. On either my ret pally or boomkin, I simply mount up and aggro mobs as I sprint through the whole instance. About halfway through, you will get dismounted but if you toss yourself a couple of heals, or in my case, keep light or HoTs up, you will not get past 80%. Just keep running and make your way back to the front of the instance and LoS the mobs by a convenient wall. Top yourself off and then AoE them all down. After looting those mobs, make your way to Witch Doctor Zum'rah's area. Click every single one of the graves until you have sufficient mobs to AoE down.
I gathered about 8-10 stacks of cloth for about 10 minutes of relatively easy work. When your bags are full, just zip over to Gadget to offload and you will be ready for another mass pull.

How to farm mageweave:
1) Go to Zul'farrak.
2) Go thru trash mobs (for biggest profit - you can aggro them as well) till zombies room.
3) Before start spawning zombies, kill trash following you. (look at 2-nd point)
4) Put on yourself some buff, which decreases damage (if needed).
5) Spawn all zombies in room, using graves.
6) When all zombies spawned - kill them
7) Turn on autoloot - and loot all mobs you've killed.
Possible to get:

Schematics.

Some green trash, which you can DE.

I was farming in Tanaris and it is still a good spot for mageweave. I had two stacks in 45 min. Just an update to some of the older comments saying Tanaris is not a good place..

A great spot for these are the ogre`s at dunemaul compound in tanaris coords 40,50, if you are at 70-80 you can pretty much oneshot these level 44-45`s
they drop everything from 1-3, and you can stack up 4-5 stacks in 10 minutes,
i just start one place, and go around in a circle, then im done with the circle, i gotta wait about 30-60 seconds for a respawn.

Well, for those of you who loved farming ZF for mageweave (or anything else for that matter), be aware that you can no longer mount up and pull the whole place at once. The troll casters, which are in just about every group in the instance, now cast
Dismounting Blast
on anyone on a mount. As far as I know it's not resistable.

For Horde players, confirming that the
Garrison Armory (Blasted Lands)
is a great place to farm Mageweave Cloth.
No Alliance competition and the mine is huge so respawns aren't an issue. Plus, if you're a Miner there are Mithril and Thorium nodes in the mines as well.
As a 58 Unholy Death Knight I was able to farm exactly 100 Mageweave Cloth in a little under 25 minutes. Pretty efficient as Mageweave is about 50g/stack on Altar of Storms.

I'm glad that I came here to check for better places to farm mageweave cloth. After reading through most of the advice (a lot of repetive stuff posted here), I spent 2 hours inside Garrison Armory Mine on my 80 shadow priest (my SWP finger got quite the workout, lol) and stopped once I filled-up one of my 20-slot Frostweave bags. FYI, that's 400 mageweave cloth for my lower-level warlock's tailoring, just the amount I'm going to need.
Thanks for the tips...farming here was worth the time (2 complete clearings of the mine with plenty of respawn kills as I retraced my steps back through some areas) and the respawn rate seems very favorable. No resets, no elites, no spell interrupts, just good old-fashioned farming that you could do all day (if you really have the time, lol).
Good luck and happy farming ya'll :D

For Horde, best place by
FAR
to farm this stuff is in the Garrison Armory and Nethergarde Keep in the Blasted Lands. The respawn rate in the Armory is perfect and the drop rate is amazing. I was able to farm up 6 and a half stacks of mageweave cloth in a little under 45 minutes, and that was only one run through half the armory and back and a brief run around Nethergarde Keep with breaks to alt+tab to msn and refill drinks.
Honestly, if you're Horde and high enough level to take 47-50 mobs easily, there is no reason you should farm anywhere else. Killing in the Armory won't flag you. Killing in Nethergarde Keep will, but it's always empty on my server so that isn't a problem for me.

Some more stats on Zul'Farrak. And more specifically the graves that give you loot and spawn elites all around Witch Doctor Zum'rah. You can try and do the entire instance but you won't make it in one pull.. The mobs dismount you and drop healing totems which, in enough quantities, can't actually be outDPSed.
What I did was enter instance -> Go to graves, click all of them -> AoEing the mobs down -> running out and reseting. Managed to do 6 runs if I recall correctly.
For 40 minutes of doing only the graves and the few mobs that I'd accidentally pull while running around as DK frost tank I managed to farm up:
220 Mageweave Cloth
200 Silk Cloth
16 Green Items
3 Aquamarines
1 Star Ruby
30 Gold in cash with 6 gold repairs for the entire 40 minutes
About 60 grey equipable items
Incredibly high quantities of unequipable items that don't really vendor for a lot
About 20 different health and mana potions
Many, many foods and drinks

Nethergarde Keep is for sure one of the best places to go. I sent 30 mins there and got over 200 Mageweave cloth, plus about 5 greens. The spawn rate is also very fast, by the time I would clear everything they had already re-spawn where I started

After trying many places today, I found Zul'Farrak to be the easiest place to farm mageweave.
You can ride your mount. So faster movement.
It has a more simple layout. To be honest, I get lost in Sunken Temple and I spent too much time killing small groups of mobs.
As a level 80, I found it very easy to aggro very large groups of mobs in Zul'Farrak and aoe the crap out of them.
One run through the dungeon gave me 131 pieces of mageweave, 70 silk, and a bunch of greens for disenchanting or selling. A second run gave me 133 mageweave and 73 silk. The runs are very quick if you're 80. So two quick runs netted me 264 mageweave.
If you choose to go there, don't forget to loot the sand graves with all the zombies. The graves give you mageweave, plus what you loot off the zombies.

I decided to run Zul'farrak to farm mageweave for my alt, it's not the best place but it is easy and convenient. I managed to farm 82 mageweave in 37 minutes. I got about 60 silk in the process so I had old mats I could use to make stuff for guildies.

I really like farming Zul'Farrak for mageweave. It's right next to Gadgetzan (you have a bank, mailbox, inn) and almost all of the enemies are humanoid. The problem is that the trolls also drop silk (this is not actually a problem if you are farming this for a tailor; simply skip whatever you had planned for silk farming and kill two birds with one stone here). This dungeon is easier to get to than the Sunken Temple (ugh) and it has more humanoid enemies.
Remember to open the graves in Zul'Farrak too, the zombies drop cloth as well (you may not want to open them ALL at once, a very large number of them can overwhelm even a lvl 80 player).

Not really, much easier to take a blasted lands portal in any of the major cities.

I have farmed all of the locations previously mentioned. I find this place to be the best for the Horde. Minus the ranged mobs located here, you can easily kite most of the cave and AoE everything down. I used Pestilence (With no dots on targeted mob for zero damage) every 1-3 mobs to keep them on me. Not once did I have a melee mob evade on me.
I highly recommend this location. Please remember; "Random is random".

In all honesty i've tried the gnolls in Feralas, they suck. I tried the Vilebranch trolls in Jintha'alor in the Hinterlands, they work. I spent about an hour and a half last night farming and i got more than 15 stacks. They great thing is that the zone is so expansive and large you can go on killing them all the way to the top and by the time you're there respawns have already came so you can kill them on the way down. I also recieved two blue leatherworking patterns (exact same funny enough) a few green and a LOT of troll mojo.

Commonly drop 1-3 cloth per kill, lots of them around and low traffic area.

I got 336 Mageweave Cloth by doing 5 resets of the Sunken Temple as a level 80 protection paladin. Don't try to pull the whole instance at once, though - the little non-elite demons also drop mageweave but they reset if you run too far from their starting position. The Elites won't reset. Took about 1 hour, maybe a bit more before I found the optimal route.
Edit: I meant the upper tier and the stairways where the trolls are.

As the drop rates suggest in the "dropped by" tab, the Garrison Armory is the best place I've found to farm Mageweave. After just under an hour I managed about 300 mageweave cloth. Also something worth note is the drop rate compared to how fast I kill things. As a mage I've found it easiest to round up the monsters and drop them all at once at my feet. However, the drop rate was horrible with this method. When I killed everything one by one, the drop rate skyrocketed for me. I've noticed this when farming other things such as motes or essences. I'm not sure if it's just chance or if there's some sort of time ratio going on for drops.

Just wanted to add what I found was a great spot to farm Mageweave Cloth:
Jintha'Alor in Hinterlands.
I actually went there because it was suggested as a good spot to farm the Hinterlands OOX distress beacon and figured I might as well pick up any Mageweave I found since it sells for a decent price. Clearing bottom to top once (and finally getting the beacon in the cave at the top), I gathered 105 Mageweave Cloth and it only took about 10 minutes (L80).
And by the time I had cleared the top, the bottom had respawned, so it seems you could do this pretty much non-stop. What I found rather nice in terms of Mageweave is that the mobs never dropped Silk Cloth or Runecloth as I've found other mobs to do. Mobs there dropped between 1-4 Mageweave each and only Mageweave.
Happy hunting!

Now when Stratholme is level ~45 I wanted to see how much Mageweave I could get in both sides of Stratholme. The rules was simpel I was going to loot everything just for fun to see how much gold each side would give me.
Started of with the
Baron side
This run gave me a total of 80 Mageweave cloth and around 40g in junk, greens/blues the run took around 25 min to do. Not that great with the Mageweave drop on that side.
On to the
Living side
the total drop was 160 Mageweave cloth, the gold earned from the loots was around 40g but on the other hand I got two
Righteous Orbs
which goes for around 100g on my server. Total time spent in there, around 30 min
Hope that helps someone that's totally confused were to farm some Mageweave cloth now in 4.0.3 I know I was ;)

Post-cataclysm I still feel like Zul'farrak is the best place to get mageweave. With an aoe-capable class, plenty of bag space (or a few trips to the vendor) plus having auto-loot turned on you can especially farm the zombies in the room with Witch Doctor Zum'rah.
Just grab as many as you think you can handle from looting the graves and kill then loot away. You will get a lot of vendor trash so you can either destroy or vendor if you love the extra bit of money like me.
Since the slight level change of this place I have so far gotten ONLY mageweave from the mobs, have yet to see silk or any runecloth.
Edit - Correction, I did loot one silk cloth from a grave, but you still find almost only mageweave from the mobs.

MAGEWEAVE FARMING IN CATACLYSM
I'm having real trouble farming this post-Cata. The Dunemaul ogres and the Felwood furbolgs both seem to have had their drop-rate lowered considerably, and the alliance mine in the Blasted Lands now drops runecloth, not mageweave (though at an amazing rate if you're farming that too...) The trolls in Jintha'Alor no longer drop it since the Hinterlands level range got dropped, now they drop silk and a little wool.
Going by the locations of the old farming spots and the level range they were at the time, mageweave drops from mobs in the 40-55 range. Post-cataclysm zones in that range are the Eastern Plaguelands, Thousand Needles, Badlands, Felwood, Tanaris, Searing Gorge, Burning Steppes, Un'goro Crater, Winterspring and the Swamp of Sorrows. Of course cloth only drops from sentient humanoids who actually wear clothing, so I'll need to find a good source of humanoid mobs in one of those places.
I'm not high level enough to try farming Zul'Farak yet, though I suspect that will still work well.Next I'll try farming the pirates at the east end of Thousand Needles, and if that doesn't work I'll check what's happening in the rest of the zones in terms of humanoid mobs.
EDIT: Not much luck with the Thousand Needles pirates. 25 kills, giving 9 silk and 5 mageweave. Not a terrible drop rate for cloth overall, but at an average level of 40 these mobs weren't quite high enough to deliver a solid supply of mageweave. Maybe it takes 45-50? That's the range the furbolgs and ogres used to be at for reliable mageweave drops.
EDIT 2: Better luck with the Thousand Needles' Twilight's Hammer cultists. They're all level 45s and mageweave is the only cloth they drop. I got 20 mageweave from 41 kills. That's the best rate I've found in Cata. Unfortunately the cultists are spread quite far apart so the kills don't come very quick. I would still guess this gave me a better drops per hour than the furbolgs or ogres but I don't have any numbers to back that up. Tomorrow I'll check out the Badlands to see if I can find anything better.

With the advent of the Cataclysm, Zul'Farrak's outdoor counterpart is filled to the brim with level 45 trolls. Those with a flying mount, or other means of bypassing the instance portal will be faced with literally thousands of trolls that can be AoE'd down. The trolls drop no loot other than Mageweave and money, and the VERY rare Moonberry Juice, thus allowing for even Auto-loot to perform to it's greatest potential here.

Seeing as cata hit im sure there are others trying to get their alts professions up to date like me. So heres the deal.
SM-Cath. i did a few runs in there, on average 1 stack per run. Can be soloed by a 52 lock.
Pirates Tanaris. IMO this spot is dead. the pirates are now very spread out making AoE not viable, unless you gather. There is 1 spot where there is a nice AoE possibilty. if you go to Lost Rigger Cove. however as 85 feral you can clear it out before respawns and there is also a lower drop chance of these guys it seemed. Im getting bout 10 mageweave of these guys per clear.
I went to the cave in blasted lands, it only dropped runecloth over the course of about 15min so i left. (got 2 stacks of runecloth there).
I tried Zul Farak non instanced. in the majority of the instance mobs cant really be AoEed. HOWEVER there is one bit which is sweet. go to the place where the executions take place there are bout 100+ trolls there just waiting to be AoEed. The drop rate is bout every 3rd mob. however there is a lot of junk, some moonberry juice, a few greens and about 4s per mob.
Ill update this post with the ogers and further info bout the other spots later.
As an idea can someone maybe say how they are doing with drops in Scholomance and Stratholme?

Zul'Farrak, since the Cataclysm, is an amazing spot for Mageweave.
All I do is run in, aggro all the trash from the start to GazRilla's pool and AoE it all down and loot. This usually takes about 5-10 mins plus looting, and then I head out, reset and go it again.
Tons of Greys to vendor and lots of greens/blues to DE/AH. With the addition of Azeroth Flying, the trip back to Gadgetzan to unload/bank is faster than ever too!

Post Deathwing - the best place I have been able to find Mageweave cloth are from the Pirates in Tanaris. Southsea Musketeer's and Strongarm's around the camp in area 69/54. Most of the time they drop 2-3 per kill.
As a level 59 rogue, my kills were not instant but pretty quick nonethless and I had no downtime as respawn rates seemed to be seconds between.
After 1 hour of farming here are some Stats:
446 Kills
204 Mageweave
17g 84s (Just Looted from the pirates) // 25g 63s (total gold including vendoring crap)
2230 Rep with Gadgetzan (892 rep with the rest of the Goblin Cities)
1 -14 slot backpack

Now I would have to say that the best place to grind this stuff is In zul'farrak, No not the instance, go there and fly up and over the instance door and you can go into the uninstanced zone. there are TONS of trolls in there that all drop mageweave cloth. farmed myself 4 stacks just from the stairs.
They respawn quite fast on the stairs.

I recommend Zul'Farrak if your a lvl 85 with some AOE power. On my death knight I farmed 9 stacks in one full run of ZF. I trained a large portion of the zone and used death and decay + blood boil AOEs. I made sure to include all the shallow graves and the mobs they contain. Each grave can also drop mageweave. I also got several handfuls of green and blues to disenchant.

Post 4.0.6 a good place is the camp around 24, 50 in Winterspring.
A _better_ place is the Dark Iron dwarf slavers/slaves in Searing Gorge. Enter the cave around 42,54 and follow the wall, they respawn pretty quick and drop (roughly, average) one piece per kill for my tailor.
Just did another sweep, portal to portal, from the door inside the cave at 37,44 ... I got 42 pieces. (Your mileage may vary.)

So just went all around Azeroth today trying different spots and heres what I found:
Felwood was okay, had the most luck with mobs just north of winterspring with about 1-3 drops per 4-5 kills
Tanaris was good, the pirates were meh, but the ogres were dropping 1-3 every 3 kills on average
If you are able to to fly over the portal into the non-instanced Zul'Farrak then you are in luck because the trolls were dropping 1-3 cloth every 2 kills. This also went by very quickly because if you go to the back where the huge altar-temple thing is, on the stairs and below there is just a bunch of non-elite trolls all bunched up and waiting to be AoE'ed. The other thing that was nice was that every about 5 kills 1-2 silk would pop up, so if your around that 175-190 range in tailoring that is helpful.
IMO Zul'Farrak Non-Instanced was the best not only because of the drop rate but because of the speed at which the farming could be done. Killed the entire portion i was talking about around the stairs in about 15 min with a 67 rogue with no AoE. I got 58 mageweave and 13 silk and by the time i was done they had mostly respawned. So there's a helpful hint

Zul'Farrak is still the best, but only because of the quantity of monsters. On actual drop rate, it really isn't amazing. I got like 25 cloth from killing everything on and below the stairs, which must be like 100 trolls.
It's more like 1-3 cloth every 4th or 5th kill.
It's fun as a higher level tank, since you can gather all of them up at once and have 40 trolls pummeling you but doing almost nothing.

The suggestions above this comment are not really up-to-date as i.e. the mobs in Blasted Land cave dont drop mageweave cloth or just because of zone level changes. Today I've found the best place to farming Mageweave cloth in WoW for me. It's located in Tanaris, near Zul'Farrak and it's called
Sandsorrow Watch
. You can find there zombie trolls and shallow graves (nearer to mountains). So take your AoE alt/main, pull zombies, open those graves up and you should find a lots of these cloths.
In one hour i got:
- 244 Mageweave cloths
- 84 Silk cloths
- many greens which turned into: 18 vision dusts, 8 dream dusts and some essences.
- ? golds
So if you want to level your tailoring and have enchanting on whatever char to disenchant already made stuff from leveling tailoring, you can very easily earn quite big amount of money. Don't bother to go farm these stuff to ZF, i found 3 mageweave cloths in 20 mins, it's not worthy. GL

A good spot for mageweave is in Felwood, up by the Talonbranch Glade.
The Irontree Chopper (for alliance) has a fairly high drop rate. I farmed 160 cloth here in approx. 30 mins.
I think horde can go here as well, since the Irontree Choppers are fighting the alliance flagged Talonbranch Defenders.

Zul'Farrak was the best farming place for Mageweave since level 70. And it's still is. You can use your mount there, which is a huge time saver.
400 Mageweave Cloth
in 35 minutes as a lvl 85 Ret Pally. Plus, 80 mojos, 17 greens and 6 blues to disenchant.
Just don't forget to open the graves.

After reading through the latest comments here, it seems that both outdoor Zul'Farrak and the dungeon itself are both amongst the best places to farm Mageweave Cloth, so I tested both for comparison.
Zul'Farrak outside:
74
Mageweave Cloth
(5.1034483 / minute)
One full clear, 14 minutes and 30 seconds, included looting. I ignored all the basilisks and the trolls in the huts alongside the mountains.
Weaknesses:
- Mobs are quite far away from each other and don't come in packs, so effectivity isn't very good.
- No opportunity of running around gathering up all the mobs and take them down in one go, as they are not in a dungeon and thereby abide normal rules.
- Drop chance is overall not that great.
Strengths:
- Has got a large staircase that contains probably around one hundred mobs, which is the one and only exception to the otherwise poor density.
- Staircase has a chance of dropping
Sheepshear Mantle
, which could be sold on the AH (dropped twice in two staircase clears in a row). Not entirely sure whether this only was good RNG, though.
Zul'Farrak dungeon:
123
Mageweave Cloth
(7.9783784 / minute)
One clear, 15 minutes and 25 seconds, included looting. I ignored several bosses, only running through the circle (look at the dungeon map if you don't understand). Watch out for
Dismounting Blast
, it does exactly as it says. I was victim to it very early, which had its consequences on the effectiveness. I had issues with Swipe with it hitting for significantly less than it should when I spammed it after having rounded up all the mobs (I suspect it's subject to diminishing returns on the amount of mobs in proximity). This also had consequences on effectiveness. As a last point, the corpses of the mobs seem to despawn not too long after having been killed, so I didn't get to loot all of them. After having killed all the mobs I had rounded up, I went to the zombie graves, killed all the zombies, and proceeded to loot them and the graves.
Weaknesses:
-
Dismounting Blast
.
- Could be necessary to kill mobs in smaller packs.
- Short despawn timer on the corpses of each mob.
Strengths:
- Possible to gather up an unlimited amount of mobs without worrying about losing aggro.
- In spite of being unlucky with things, the effectiveness still proved to be much higher. Expect a higher income rate than me if you are more lucky.
Since the large staircase on the outside counterpart had a high density of mobs, I decided to test its effectiveness alone. Clearing and looting took about 5 minutes and gave a total of 30 Mageweave Cloth, which is 6 Mageweave Cloth per minute. Not a very big improvement from the outside overall.
TL;DR
The Zul'Farrak dungeon is a lot more effective than its outside counterpart. Go for that one instead.

(For Horde players) If you are not high leveled enough to go to the Blasted Lands, I strongly recommend you to go to Felwood, fight some Talonbranch Defenders next to Alliance's Talonbranch Glade. I've been there for about half an hour and got 71 mageweave cloths.

I've found the dragonkin in the far western part of Badlands to be an easily-farmed source of Mageweave. They're numerous, spawn quickly (by the time I clear them they're respawned) and easy to kill (lvls 46-48 it seems). Close enough that you can cluster 5-6 of them for an AoE kill, and seem to drop an average 1-2 per with very little trash dropping and a few silver each too. All in all not even a full route here nets me around 2-3 stacks so far. Unless my luck's been incredible this might be the easiest place to farm this in Cata.

Zul'Farak is baller for mageweave. Only problem I've had is, when I round up half the trolls in the instance, my AOE damage becomes so spread out and weak that the healing totems out-heal my blizzard! So watch out for that.

The best place to farm
魔纹布
is probably in
Zul'Farrak
In the room with all the
shallow graves
. Just pick up all trash in the graves and u will have a quite alot of zombies at you. Then it's just to AoE them down, fast and simple. You need very much bag space since the
shallow graves
gives you very much junk.
I hope this helps someone who is looking for a spot to farm some fast

uninstanced ZF is great. it is possible to get around the portal without a flying mount, you just have to get up onto the eastern wall of the courtyard before the portal and jump across to the wall with the portal on it. the area with the big staircase has a good 20 trolls standing around, and there are probably just as many dancing on the stairs. they respawn very quickly so you really don't even need to go anywhere but this one area.
in about an hour i've picked up a few cured ham steak, few moonberry juice, couple greens, random potions, little bit of gold, almost one stack of silk and 3 stacks of mageweave. compared to the AH prices i'm very pleased.

Did it in ZF Flew in over the entrance, looked around and systematically started picking off trolls. Slow and painful at best. Flew a little more and found a set of steps covered in trolls, Axethrowers, Firecallers, etc. even more down on the sand. Started working the edges and picking them off. DOH! I'm a lvl 85 DPS warrior. Started running through the groups on the ground and picked up as many as would follow. stop and let more come in. Bladestorm and dropped all of them, sometimes one or two axethrowers would target me from distance, Heroic throw and dropped dead. I'd pick up a few stragglers and run through the crowd again. Then I would do all of them on the steps. Those I could get to all pretty much swarm me, Bladestorm and start picking up loot. Had all the cloth I needed in about 20-25 minutes and then I remembered all those gang rapes I suffered as I lvl'd up. Payback is a biotch. LOL I kept running these crowds of mobs until all 3 of my 22 slot bags were full. Couldn't put any in my mammoth mining bag or I would have filled it also. Only made about 6 g off the mobs but made another 22 g selling all the loot to vendors plus left over cloth after lvling up my first aid, that I will donate to my guild bank. After this I stopped in Dustmallow to look for a Dart Hatchling, found that too. All in all a good day. =)

Found myself short on cloth when levelling an alt, so took my L85 there.
As mentioned above, make sure you open all the shallow graves in the northern area - you'll get another 40-50 mobs to farm for cloth.

Yep, as with lots of the comments above, I found Zul'Farrak best for mageweave cloth. I only took on the graves in the north area. As a mage I put my shield up and opening all the graves just made my shields break down in a minute. Each grave is looted and you get extra loot from the mobs (2 from each grave). I got around 200 mageweave cloth from them (lucky perhaps?).

I decided to do a comparison of which would yield more cloth: An instanced run of
Zul'Farrak
, or farming at the
temple in non-instanced Zul'Farrak
. These tests were performed during patch 4.0.3 and were done by a
Level 85 Prot Pally
. Here are my findings:
A single run of Zul'Farrck (dungeon):
Time:
32 mins
.
Cloth Yield:
150 Mageweave & 5 Silk
Items:
5 BoP Blues (sold as vendor trash) & 6 Greens
Money Total (after vendor items were sold):
29g 65s 48c
Comments: My strategy was to pull all the trash to the nearest boss then AoE them down and start looting. I did this between every boss and killed the all trash, including those from the graves. The mobs in the dungeon drop tons of trash and it clutters your bags very quickly. Not much of a problem if you have bots or the mammoth mount but you may need to empty your bags half way through.
I experienced the highest Mageweave yield from the graves and the zombies that spawn.
A single farm cycle at the temple (world):
Time:
5 mins. 30 secs.
Cloth Yield:
39 Mageweave & 20 Silk
Items:
1 Green
Money Total (after vendor items were sold):
2g 99s 56c
Comments:
My strategy was to pull the mobs at the base of the temple and LoS the ranged by backing up against the wall surrounding the fire. I AoE'd then looted. I mounted up an did the same for the mobs on the stairs, LoSing at the top of the temple. By the time I cleaned up the stragglers the mobs at the bottom were beginning to respawn.
For this test I did not loop and start at the bottom again.
Simple Math Time:
To simplify the math I'm rounding the times down. The dungeon farm is rounding to 30 mins, and the world farm is rounding to 5 mins. (I welcome someone to check my head-math)
The result:
Dungeon farming: 6 Mageweave per Min.
World farming: 8 (rounding up) per Min.
Disclaimer:
The tests were performed once and, therefore, are not an average,
you may have a different result

is good for farming at top levels. But kill only trash till first junction, run back and repeat.
With my 85 lvl Shadow Priest I got 35 Mageweave Cloth, one Blue, one Green and ton of crap in
6 minutes
. Makes around 350 Mageweave/hour.
Good is, that you can grab all trash and then kill them in once with AoE at junction, definitely worth of try.
Edit:
Next run I got 55 Mageweave, making it around 550/hour.

All up, on a 74 Frost Mage, solo, took about 20mins, includes time in Guild chat, whatever, wasn't fully grinding. Got 76 Mageweave Cloths. This is my farming location if I ever need it again. Was farming MW Cloth to make into Black Mageweave Gloves, to Disenchant for the Vision Dust.

I had to explore Eastmoon Ruins in Tanaris for the Exploration Achievement. I went ahead and made six circuits, killing all of the Eastmoon defenders. I got 120 mageweave. The spawn rate is several times faster than I could kill them as a level 66 frost mage. I then went over to the nearby Dunemaul Compound to kill ogres. With less than one circuit of the outside area I got 20 more mageweave so it seems to be a bit faster than Eastmoon. I tried a full circuit for comparison. It took me 11 minutes and yielded 28 mageweave. I can farm these areas at my level without worrying about getting overwhelmed by hordes. To put this in comparison, I can barely handle the hordes at Stratholme solo. Also, the trash is low; they mostly drop silver, mageweave, and the typical food and mana items.
I have tailoring and enchanting so I'm collecting mageweave to create magical items to disenchant; (nether essence seems to be particularly hard to find).
10 Black mageweave vests yielded 20 vision dust, 6 lesser nether essence
10 Black mageweave gloves yielded 24 vision dust, 2 lesser nether essence, 1 small radiant shard

Pirates at Southfury Shore in Tanaris. Drop rate is 1 to 3, respawn rate of mobs is excelent.
Once I read this quote, I mounted up so quick my computer hadn't even registered that I'd alt tabbed back to WoW yet.
This is the area I'm grinding back Goblin rep after Bloodsail Admiral (5/6 rep with Gadget and trickle down with the other 3).
The drop rate seems to be about 1 in 3 (1-2 per drop), and drops off both the SouthSea Pirates and the Covert ops Suits, and respawn rate is amazing. Only time you need to stop killing is to regen mana.
edit:Fixed a typo.
EDIT: I wasn't counting, but it felt like about 20 mins to get 5 whole stacks.

I don't think this was mentioned before, but if you are looking for mageweave cloth and some wild and crazy action as well, go to the Burning Steppes just in front of Blackrock Stronghold at about 34, 37.
Here you will find mobs clustered in groups of 15 or so-they are standing there like military formations and they can't easily be separated. Be sure you have a character that can handle that many lvl 50-51 mobs at once (They are pretty weak for their level). Good AoE, like the Mage's blizzard, is a must.
They drop alot of mageweave, some runecloth, alot of coins, and a few greens and greys. Go there with empty bags and have fun! Stay there as long as you like as they respawn quickly.
I'm an Ally and am not sure if these guys are friendly to the horde, maybe someone from that faction could check it out.

Farming in Burning Steppes is a little different from usual farming.
There are four companies of Blackrock soldiers in front of Blackrock Stronghold. They respawn in 8 minutes, so basically you will be on a two-minute killing spree and will then have to wait 6 minutes for the next run.
Each company has 25 soldiers, so each run means 100+ dead Blackrock soldiers. I did 5 runs altogether and got:
Mageweave Cloth x 212
Runecloth x 101
greens (ilvl 49-55) x 8

BartJ385's comment about farming the groups of mobs in front of Blackrock Stronghold was very helpful, I can confirm this is a great way to farm Mageweave in 5.1.
As he says the groups of 25 soldiers have roughly a 10 minute respawn timer, so after killing them all (takes less than a minute) I logged an alt and ran through ZF on another character, combining these two methods got me the 400 Mageweave needed for tailoring in next to no time!
If this comment has been helpful, up-vote so others can see!
Cheers, Pxl.

If you head to the spot where the execution area is, I'd call it the town-center, there are about 100 mobs just bunched up. Only have like 3500 health, and they all drop loot. Also a large set on the stairs themselves. And the respawn timer is like 3 minutes. Great for just plowing through and getting tons of mageweave plus any rare drops.

The easiest way for me to farm this as a 90 Elemental Shaman was to go to Zul'Farrak in Tanaris. You get a bunch of cloth, greens, money, and grays that sell for a decent amount of silver each. I got five or six stacks of Mageweave before I had to stop to empty my bags.

As of 1/5/2014.. Stratholme undead side is still the best place to farm mageweave cloths. I basically pulled the whole instances and got 10 stacks of mageweave cloths. Took probably maybe around 10 mins.
-Have fun farming!

Perhaps not the ideal location, but if you happen to be in the area the grouped up forces in front of Blackrock Stronghold in the Burning Steppes drop plenty of mageweave and a bit of runecloth. I was overleveled and playing a deathknight, using aoe to wipe them rather quickly but it worked rather well I thought. Maybe worth checking out?

As a lvl90 alliance, the Fields of Honor in Burning Steppes are very good for this.
Close to SW, quick respawn on the mobs, and they're literally standing around in formation- AOE is just a breeze.
Like I say, they are quick respawn, but they are needed for at least one quest so be considerate. :)
Decent for Runecloth too.

I will probably be buried in all these comments, but my favorite place to farm Mageweave is Stratholme.
Get all the skeletons in the beginning area, and pull time to one place and kill them. ~35-45 pieces will drop in
just one run.

Zul Farrak
1 run got me
192 Mageweave
8 Green BoEs
2 Gems
1 Blue BoE
10-15 minute clear.
The annoying part is the dismount still gets me even at lv 75
Happy hunting!

Just ran Stratholme for mageweave cloth;
235 = Main Gate
112 = Service Entrance
Definitely worth the run as well as another shot at Rivendare's mount.
:) for the mageweave
:( for the mount

Leveling tailoring and cooking? Farm mageweave in Tanaris, and while you're there, grab the recipe for Tender Wolf Steak from the innkeeper or butcher in Gadgetzan, then before you leave Kalimdor, grab the recipe for Hot Wolf Ribs in Feralas (either Camp Mojache or Feathermoon Stronghold). Because currently, the best place to farm the next cloth--runecloth--is Lower Blackrock Spire, where the worgs drop red wolf meat and tender wolf meat. Kill two birds with one stone.
