Had it drop in a casual Shattered Halls run. Was a bit amazed to see an epic BoE set, those are rare in my experience.

As a mage I'm a bit torn between utility items like this, and pure dmg/crit items.

a) don't hit earth spirits if you want motes of air ;)
b) this is a superb item - total +d/h for the set is 67!

to compare set items that have a bonus with "normal" items that do not, i take a proportion of the bonus and add it to the item's stats. in this case, we have a ring that has 29+7 dmg and a neck that has 23+7. there is only one neck that beats that +dmg, and only 2 rings.

amusingly, all three of these items are pre TBC! consequently, if you're all about the dmg bonus, these are about the best jewellery you can hope to obtain in the game.

NB, i'm not afraid of flaming - this isn't thottbot, after all - but i am aware that i have not given word to the other stats. as a disclaimer, i *did* mention that this set is all about the +dmg :)

For Shadow Priests (like myself) and Warlocks, http://www.wowhead.com/?item=30666 (Rittsyn's Lost Pendant) has much higher +Shadow damage than the neckpeice aspect of the set, so while your comment is true for most casters for now, we can hope that in the near future other casting classes will get something like the Lost Pendant for their damage type as well.

The Item I refer to drops off of trash in Karazhan.

Another thing to consider with this set is also the amount of int and spirit and the impact it has on you based on your taent build and other gear.

I am a Arcane / Fire mage with full points in Mind Mastery. This gives me 25% of my total intellect as +dmg to all. In addition, I have full spellfire which gives me 7% of my intellect as +dmg to all. So all things considered, this set nets me:

(33int * 0.25) + (33int * .07) + 67 = 77.56 dmg

The previous ring / neck combo I was using had high +dmg, very close to this, but effectively had 25 dmg less due to the lack of the set bonus and lack of intellect.

Also, since most DPS gear is high on int and stam and has little to no spirit, the added spirit on this set helps my evocation fill my bar that much more... Which really helps in a crunch.

Have seen this go for as low as 150g thru the trade channel.
Not sure what servers it goes for 1000.... I presume that might have been the price way back before Kara was on farm by every guild in the game.

Do not quote me on this I could be wrong here.

most of the time when we pick certain gear we pick them for certain reasons such as i.e. pvp, pve, and now arena. The argument I notice about why a Shadowpriest wouldn't get "The Twin Stars" set seems rather wrong as in Rittsyn's Lost Pendant has ONLY Stamina which as we all know is for pvp, and now Arena. (you shouldn't be getting hit in pve if you are BOOT YOUR TANK!!!) This also brings me to my second conclusion why TTS set is better, as a shadowpriest you are also running out of mana fast, which TTS will supply you with Int and spirit, the spirit part is not that important but it should be added in as this set is one of the only few combos that give spirit. Next point is (this one I am not sure of) Vampiric Embrace will also benefit not much but still gain some added healing effect by TTS. I hope this has been rather helpful, oh one last thing.

I am a paladin and I love having TTS it is the best (in my opinion) combo a pally can have, expecially if you a Retribution Paladin like me ^.^

Set seems IDEAL for a shadow priest(although, who's to say its not good for other priests while soloing?); High d/h, spirit(for spirit tap and such -- priests are all about spirit), decent stam/int.

And Avire has another point, it may be bizarre, but I also know a good amount about the retribution spec; instead of going full-warrior gear and gimping yourself, it is a much better idea... to go with caster gear! Thats right, int/d+h/stam is definitely what you need, indeed. Your dps will be consistently higher if you choose this route, as opposed to the warrior gear route, which I would assume has str and crit -- mind you, I am not saying a pally does not need these, they just seem like the hardest stats to get(Make no mistake -- spell damage is VERY important for a retribution pally!). In the end, I would say if you can't get your gear via pvp or from wherever, go the mage route(TTS!), and stack crit/str enchants(Cobrahide leg armor, Scryer shoulder enchants, etc).

Well, as of today (S3 beginning day) the high spelldamage of this set is surpassed by the new S3 ring and amulet (with +9 spelldamage gem). So it's another option for those who want to get the high spelldamage from rings and amulets before starting raiding.

Another thing: The buyout price on our server (Executus-EU) seems to start from 1000 and decreases to 400-500. I witnessed this multiple times so you can probably buy it for a cheaper price. (I bought my ring at 400 and amulet at 500)

Even at level 70 I remember this item was not good at all compared to the other items that were easily obtainable and often stronger

Now this is useless unless its less than 20g because greens and blues you get from Northrend will replace this in an instant
