Yeah, this is the warlock version. In my opinion, I think it's better than the mage version. A constant addition to party spell damage is better than 2% to crit. Plus the warlock version gives the user a 2% chance to crit while the mage's give the user a 2% chance to hit. If you're at the point to be able to get this staff, you probably will have your chance to hit maximized.

Yes, you cant choose any other as you get different quest for each class. You can see it as a Legendary Class Quest

Makes me sad that the legendary staff of Medivh would sell to a vendor for 18g, 51s, and 58c.

I can just imagine that conversation.

Player: But.. this is the staff the wizard Medivh used when he spoke to Thrall, King Terenas, and Jaina Proudmoore. This staff is rich in Azerothian history and was once wielded by the man who is responsible for creating the Dark Portal!

Just a point, the original atiesh from Medievh has the red color on the string below the head, notice that the warlock version of the staff is red aswell, thank you blizzard for pointing out that:

-Medievh, Azeroth's most powerfull human was a warlock.

-Atiesh, would be most suited on a Warlock instead of the other classes.

NOTE

You need 42 pieces to make Atiesh.

It is a reference to the book "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams.

In the book there was made a super computer to tell the people the meaning of life, the world and everything.

Still better than S3 weapon + badge shadow offhand if you're in a full caster group, although having a resto shaman and/or having the 2.3 badge offhand as a destruction specced warlock can tip the scales.
Definitely not worth going back for it :)

So this really pissed me Blizzard. Why cancel the old legendary items and replace them with ones that are very difficult to obtain. Basing Outland and Northrend drove all the players from other continents, and now everyone is just in Dalaran. In addition: I have not seen a single player with new legendary items: Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa's Rest, Tiriosh, Nightmare of Ages and Golad, Twilight of Aspects. That's right may be revoked by any other legendary things because raids from which to acquire these items certainly do not go. Because the maximum is now level 85, one player managed to go, should Molten Core raids still short of classic. But when he gets this subject, so it will be just about anything. At least Blizzard could cancel an unpleasant thing sets. For example, when one player has a character level 85 mage and he would pass through Molten Core, a level 60 Warior and wants to be put together T2. But here's the problem. The T2 is set or data can be sent to auction only a belt and wrists. Other courses are but soullbond. So if you want to put together a set, you need to tell a friend you pulled raid, but to all the parts you fall, you will have to go raid about 7 times. And it can take you straight to level 70 set, even if you wanted to set the 60th level Blizzard would not interfere but definitely legendary things. An example is now: Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian and Asbringer

In late vanilla (and throughout the Burning Crusade), this was the 术士 version of the legendary 纳克萨玛斯 weapon. It came in four flavors (see the tabs above), and is no longer obtainable. Ravens circled it periodically.

From patch 1.11 "Shadow of the Necropolis" in June 2006, to patch 3.0.2 "Echoes of Doom" in October 2008, Naxxramas hung over the 东瘟疫之地 and dropped Tier 3 raid armor and sometimes 埃提耶什的碎片. After lots and lots of Naxx runs (no small feat at the time), 40 splinters could be combined into the 埃提耶什的杖柄, and then you had to find someone to help you recover the head and base on . "There is also a minor issue regarding the staff being a conduit for Sargeras's evil." Provided you had worked your way up to neutral with the 诺兹多姆的子嗣, 阿纳克洛斯 knows all, and he sent you out on 埃提耶什，被玷污的传说之杖. Once on the quest, the 埃提耶什的法杖顶部 dropped from 克尔苏加德 at the end of Naxx, and the the 埃提耶什之柄 dropped from 克苏恩 in the 安其拉 (thanks, Brann, for that...). Anachronos then sent you out on to 斯坦索姆 to get 埃提耶什 out of 埃提耶什，守护者的传说之杖, and then kill him of course.

In lore, the Greatstaff was wielded by 提瑞斯法的守护者, up through 最后的守护者 Medivh, who was possessed by Sargeras.
