Bind on pick up? So we cannot make the vestige and give it to somebody that has the rank 4 recipe to make the rank 6 base item? Please tell me that is not so.

PSA:

Even though these are BoP, 100% of the mats to make them are NOT BoP.

So just gather all the needed 刻钍水晶 and additional mats, and then you can trade them to your crafter of choice to make your this item + base legendary rank 5/6 item.

Can you use more than 1 on the same item? i.e. make a rank 1 to 3 and then make that 3 to a 5?

The tailoring mats requiered are insanely high compare to others. I don't know if it's an attempt to give more value to Cloth legendary, but I strongly suggest anyone wanting to make gold to have LW or something else on their Tailors.

So say I'm a leatherworker but my legendary is in my ring slot. If I buy a rank 4 ring, can I craft a vestige and use it on the base ring to get a rank 6 ring?

In case the PSA post is not clear I want to make sure people understand.

Unless YOU plan on making your own rank ?/6 legendary, DO NOT CRAFT this item.

Get 40 crystals, find whatever profession makes your legendary, and give the 40 crystals to them, they need to craft this and then add it while crafting the base white legendary item.

You need to be maxed level with ur LW/tailor/BS/JC in order to be awarded with "Tome of Origins" recipe at the end of the quest "Untangling the Sigil". If you want to get it for free, don't make the mistake I did.

This does NOT require honored with Death's Advance as the description in WOW says. You get this upon completing The last sigil questline freeing the Primus (runecarver). You can not get this quest though until you complete your covenants campaign in full. Also this is NOT a purchasable item as the description in WOW says. It is only acquirable by finishing the previously mentioned quests.
You can not give the vestige to another of your toons, or another player. It must be used by the toon that crafted it. You have to learn this on each toon you want to be able to craft this item (recipe is NOT account bound). If you have 2 crafting professions on the same toon, you can craft this with either profession and use it on either.

Hey all,

I wanted to let you know about a bug I encountered today while crafting a Vestige of Origins. I just about had a heart attack but it all worked out!

I crafted the Vestige. I saw the mats for it disappear out of my bags. I saw in the chat pane that I had received a Vestige of Origins, but... could not find it in my bags. I used the Search feature for bags... not there. I went and looked in my bank and reagent tab... not there. I opened the base item I had been planning to craft with it in the crafting panel, and clicked on the + sign to try to add it... not there. 0 Vestiges of Origin found.

At this point I was panicking and screenshotting like crazy, because it wasn't even my mats, it was a guildie who had sent them to me to make a cloak for him... in a pretty new guild that doesn't really know me yet.

I logged out and logged back in... and WHEW there it was in my bags.

I think the description of this item is a bit misleading. It says "THE ATTACHED" base item. I thought if I buy the rank 4 legendary and create this, I will be able to upgrade it to rank 6. Well, it turns out, I won't. It's totally useless. It cost 40 crystals.

I think the cost of legendary 5 and 6 items and several hundred thousand gold is ridiculous to the point, there is no point in making them. Among all the things that blizzard is failing at, trying to coerce us into pay to play for this stuff is more than a little sad. For tailors even thread is outrageous.

When a 原点残迹 is used to Craft a Level 1, 2, or 3 Legendary Base, does it increase the amount of earned?

Normally, you have to make each Rank 15 times to Rank up, but can I burn a few 原点残迹 and get to Rank 4 more quickly and for less material?

I could waste 40 刻钍水晶s and find out, but I'd rather not.

UPDATE: Since my comment wasn't getting any replies, I bit the bullet and spent the 刻钍水晶s to test the theory.
No, using a 原点残迹 does NOT increase the XP gained from crafting a legendary base. You still get the same 5 XP as usual.

FYI it requires even more Soul Ash to craft legendaries from base items that have had this item applied to them. Currently 3,200 Soul Ash is required to craft a ilvl 225 Legendary.

To summarise the posts:

This item is required to create Rank 5 and Rank 6 legendary base items such as Grim-Veiled, Shadowghast, Umbrahide or Boneshatter
It can optionally be used (if the mats are cheap enough) to craft a more-sellable/less-loss-making 2-higher rank item at low levels e.g. a 225 Rank 3 instead of a 190 rank 1
Don't bother with this item unless your char can craft legendary items (i.e. Blacksmith, Leatherworker, Tailor or Jewel-crafter)
You must have max. level skill in the profession to get the tome
In order to get the pattern for free, complete your Covenant Campaign then the Korthia Campaign
The quest has to be repeated on each crafter, it is not account wide
The crafted Vestige of Origins (VoO) is Bind on Pickup - you cannot trade it or sell it on the Auction House (AH)
The materials are all tradeable and can be bought and sold on the AH
Dual crafters (e.g. Tailor + JC) can create on either craft and use on either craft
The item is used in the same way as Relics of the Past and Crafters Marks, i.e. applied at time of crafting. You cannot apply it to an already-crafted item
Crafting low ranks adds the same 5 skill-points as crafting one without a VoO - you still need to craft 15 of them to get to the next rank
As of 9.1.5, destroying a Legendary at the Runecarver will give the Soul Ash/Cinders back, but not the base item, missives or VoO
