I spent hours trying to get the 1h axe (考察队之斧) and the quest page says you get it in a specific spec, but at the point you finish this quest you aren't able to pick a spec yet (and ofc you can't even go to this zone and get the quest with a DK or DH). What you can do is change loot spec, wich still does not guarantee what the info on wowhead suggests, so here are the results of the classes I have tried, partially with and w/o setting loot spec:

Alliance (骑乘科技强化野猪)

Rogue, depending on loot spec: 考察队匕首 or 考察队之棍
Shaman, depending on loot spec: 考察队之棍 or 考察队法杖
Warrior, depending on loot spec: 考察队短剑 or 考察队之棍 or 考察队巨剑
Paladin, depending on loot spec: 考察队短剑 or 考察队之棍 or 考察队巨剑
Monk, depending on loot spec 考察队短剑 or 考察队之棍 or 考察队短杖 or 考察队法杖

Which means I cannot think of a way that an Alliance player will be able to get 考察队之斧 AT ALL. :(

Horde (死亡调整器)

Shaman, depending on loot spec: 考察队之棍 or 考察队法杖 and finally 考察队之斧 in enhancement spec, which DOES NOT unlock a 1h axe for Alliance.

From what I’m seeing, Alliance are only getting the sword and Horde is getting the axe. I specced into Arms Warrior after getting to Orgrimmar. So, no two handed version for me.

As an Interesting side note: I just ran an alliance warlock thru Exile's Reach. I have an addon that tells me extra information when I receive an item such as the item ID and if any additional appearances were added (such as when you pick between multiple rewards and while, it gives you item A, you also get the appearances for Items B & C). So, it gave me the staff for the reward and my addon indicated I also received the appearance for 考察队短剑, which is OK since warlocks can use 1H swords. But imagine my surprise when it also indicated that I received the appearance for 考察队之斧, which a lock can't use! (and apparently alliance can't either)

So after finishing up in Exile's Reach, I got on a horde warrior to see if it actually gave me the appearance and it did. This is only the second time I've run a toon through Exile's Reach and the 1st was an alliance druid, so it did give my warlock this appearance. Definitely some screwy code going on here...
