Obtaining Nat as follower will require a LOT of fishing but probably that's hardly a surprise to anyone.

First of all, you need to have 700 in Fishing (the easy part) which comes by itself while getting the 德拉诺渔夫. The achievement unlocks the level 3 Fishing Shack plans for you garrison which is the second requirement. After upgrading the shack to the level 3, you are given a fishing-related questline. Completing 正牌德拉诺垂钓翁 will award Nat Pagle to join your ranks.

So as a recap, to get Nat Pagle you need:

700 in Fishing skill
Level 3 Fishing Shack which plans are a reward from 德拉诺渔夫
Questline starting from the fishing shack completed

Once 纳特·帕格 is a follower, you can catch Lunkers without bait(垂钓大师)

Once you acquire him as a follower, make sure you place him in your Fishing Shack so you can catch lurkers without bait.

Be aware that Draenor Angler and Draenor Fisherman are two separate achievements, despite their nearly identical names, otherwise you will be very upset to find out that the 300+ non-enormous fish you caught on your way to 700 skill don't count at all toward the achievement you actually need and you will probably throw your very expensive wireless gaming mouse across the room in frustration.

tl;dr: Don't get to 700 by fishing at your garrison :(

I have Nat working in my Fishing Shack Lvl3 but I can't seem to be able to catch any lunker.
Am I doing something wrong or drop chance is lower than MoP rare fish?

Note for your alts (if you're crazy enough about fishing to want him on all your alts):

Once at least one of your characters has unlocked the fishing shack lvl 3 for your account your alts can build this when they reach lvl 100 and have upgraded their garrison to tier 3. The quests won't be visible if their skill is under 700, but you can make the quests show up by fishing at your shack. When you get a skill up from fishing the fat panda npc that gives the quest should have the quest show up. I don't know why having the npc watch you getting a skill up forces the quests to appear, but I ain't complaining. Repeat skilling up as necessary until you have the quest chain completed.

All my alts have 600 skill from Mists, need other people to confirm this works for them below 600.

Probably also works for your main if you somehow manage to unlock the lvl 3 shack plans without reaching 700 skill.

Edit: another alt (with 605 skill) ran into troubles after delivering the arcane fish to him - he wouldn't give the next quest to take a journal page back. Now he is in this alt's garrison and the quest chain is temporarily stalled.
Further edit: this same alt was my only one that didn't own nat's hat, once I bought it and put it on, Nat seems to like me again and offer the journal page quest. (/shrug, I think this whole behaviour on the quest chain under 700 skill is weird)

the dropping rate of the lunkers is absurd. i mean 45 mins fishing with no lunker droping whatsoever this really needs to improve. There'a a lot to do in this game don't make me spend a day fishing for dailies pls.

Once you recruit 纳特·帕格 to your level 3 Fishing Hut you need to assign him to the hut in order to gain his trait of being able to catch the Lunkers without the special lure you once used in the previous quest. Once he's assigned to the hut and you're out fishing for your Lunkers, he will ride out and find find you to make some kind of comment.

Once he found me the first time he commented:

Pat Nagle says: Santoxrhaul, I found ya!
Pat Nagel says: Any bites yet? I have found that patience (and beer) really helps bring in the big catch!
Pat Nagle says: See ya!

....and then he rides off.

For those who are leveling alts - you can build the level 3 fishing shack well before 700 fishing (I built mine around 450), but you'll still need to catch more fish to get Nat as a follower. At 600 fishing the quest to get Nat in my garrison appeared, but he only appeared as a vendor, not a follower.

You don't need to have a base 700 skill on fishing. Just a total of 700 (like when you apply lure).
Just did so with 300 base skill +400.

I've seen a lot of posts about horrible drop rates for the daily lunkers. I fished for 30-45 minutes after first getting the dailys and didnt catch one. I decided to listen to Nat about drinking and knocked back a few brews, caught 3 in 10 minutes. Apparently it does help to drink while fishing for these..... Make sure to have him assigned to the fishing shack as well.

If you've already got the achievement for the lvl 3 Fishing Shack blueprints and want to get this follower on an alt you can start, as well as finish, the entire questchain long before you've actually hit 700 fishing skill. Any temporary benefits to your fishing skill, such as equipping a hat or fishing pole and using a lure, counts towards the requirement of 700 fishing skill. I was able to pick up the quests at 300 fishing skill on my monk alt by equipping a hat and fishing pole with 100 bonus fishing each and using the Worm Supreme for 200 additional fishing, 700 total.

Do note that if you use a lure, you'll have to refresh it in order to pick up all the quests during the chain. You may also need to change zones or log out for it to update properly if the buff falls off and the quests don't show up even after you refreshed it.

I was just fishing behind Wor'var when Nat fell from the sky and died on top of me, he despawned very quickly so I didn't get a screenshot, it was almost immediately. I will upload if I am fast enough. Pretty funny.

There is something I don't understand. "Allows to catch lunkers without bait". I interpret this like "with him I can catch lunkers without bait, and without him I can catch lunkers with bait". But this seems not true, because without him working I can't catch lunkers at all. Then why we have that tip "without bait"? Should be just "Allows to catch lunkers". I don't see any relation between catching lunkers and using baits.

Please help me to understand what I'm missing.

So yeah the comments below that say you have to be drunk to catch lunkers is not true. The plain and simple truth of my personal experience is that after 3 zones, at least 20 minutes fishing in each zone, completely smashed netted 0 lunkers. With Nat Pagle as a follower with the blue ? above his head in my fishing shack. The drop rate, just sucks, drunk or not drunk.

Also, having a level 3 Trading post(20% more reputation gained) works with this. I got 420 turning in each lunker I caught instead of the normal 350.

Can someone please give me advice on what to do. I am trying to get the angler quest, and nat is at my lvl 3 fishing pond, but he won't give me the quest. Without the quest, I cannot get him to become a follower. It all worked on my first lvl 100, but this second one can't get the quest.

Anyone else trying to get him on an Alt. Your Alt needs to also be exalted "best friend" faction with Nat in order for him to become your follower. I recently had my main get the Draenor Achv as well as 700 skill and did all the quests to lure Nat to your garrison but he never gave me the final lunker quest. I asked a GM and this is what they told me.

In relation to the rep grind when fishing for lunkers, you can hand in as many lunkers as you want in a single day. Hypothetically speaking, if you somehow fished up 100 lunkers in a single day, you could hand them all in on a single day.
Blind Lake Lunkers, Fat Sleeper Lunkers, Abyssal Gulper Lunkers, Fire Ammonite Lunkers, Jawless Skulker Lunkers and Blackwater Whiptail Lunkers in stacks of 5, you can rake in 30 of Nat's Lucky Coins with each hand-in.

If you don't mind fishing 'em all up in a single sitting, you could do this.
I hope this is useful, and this is also pre-6.1, so I dunno how feasible this'll be come the update.

I got Nat Pagle to day on my alt. She wasn't exalted with Nat Pagle just Stranger or even 700 in fishing but above 600.
In my garrison I put a lure on my fishing pole so I was at least 700.
I got the start quest and then I did the quest line. But remember to keep your fishing at least 700 to get the next quest. When you’re fishing it is not necessary, I fished Lunkers and was only 622 in fishing

I just deactivate Nate on my toons. He still stand outside his fishing shack so I can get bait from him and turn in Lunkers. I'm not sure if I get the Angler buff or not but it doesn't really matter as bait is so easy to get now.

So Nat showed up while fishing and i was levitating on the water in goregond he took a little longer to get to me than usual. he was standing on the bottom told me to "remember a cooler" than he died...

I don't know if it was a bug or if it is a result of having better than stranger status with 纳特·帕格 in 卡桑琅丛林 (Pandaria), or maybe it is the revered status with 垂钓翁, but the version of 正牌德拉诺垂钓翁 given my main required only one lunker of any kind. My alts, however, are being asked to do the full zone crawl for lunkers. Quite perplexing...

If i do the quest in draenor and recruit him, what happens to the Nat in Krasarang wilds. I'm still working on that rep. So will he still have all the items if he comes to my fishing shack? Like the raft, spear, mount, etc. And in any case, will he also be in Krasarang still?

Completing The Draenor Angler achievements on your Alts

Have a level 3 fishing shack.
Have Nat Pagal as your follower.

Get the particular fish buff you need (remember it is a buff and not a bait)---(click on Nat select, regular fish bait and make your choice).

Fish in your own lake.

so long as you have your Buff the majority of the fish you catch will be the one's you want.

This will also allow you to catch the Lunar Fall carp with it's corresponding drops.

No Flying, no running around for pools and peace and quite.

All a fisherman could want :D

Nat will appear in both WoD and Karasang, so you will rep with both if you do the separate quest lines

I have been trying to become Nat's "best friend," but since this latest patch, I seem stuck at "good friend" no matter how many of the special fish quests I turn in. Is this a glitch? Do I need to be a best friend in order to acquire him as a garrison follower? Oh, and I have caught a lunker without Nat as a follower.

I think that it is important to add, that if you are out fishing for lunkers in the middle of a lake using your raft, Nat Pagle will come up to you with all the sort of shenanigans that he's got to say... then die suddenly every time.

I have Nat as a follower but still cannot get beyond Good Friend using the rare fish quests that you turn into him in Krasaring Wilds. Would like to purchase the 'Best Friend' items. How can I raise rep now?

If you have Nat Pagle on one of your characters your alts do have a chance to catch Lunkers, regardless of their fishing skill in Draenor.

My main toon has Nat as a follower and I was fishing on my Goblin (who is only at 400 skill in fishing) while trying to earn Nat Pagle as a follower on her. I caught 3 Lunkers on the Goblin. Granted, I didn't catch them often, but I still caught them.

So I have Nat Pagle as a Good Friend, but there is no quest or anything to get him into the Best Friend rep grind. I have 700 Fishing, did the Draenor Angler achieves and the Meta and the lvl 3 Fishing Hut. I'm obviously missing something. Any opinions?

Does having him assigned to your fishing shack affect lunker drop rate or anything else anymore? I've not been paying attention but it doesn't seem to affect much anymore, hoping I'm wrong, but if it doesn't I would like to stop wasting the slot use on him.

To answer someone's reputation question - YES Nat rep is cross x-pacs.

Therefore, if you have your Draenor Nat at 100 rep (let' say) and you go turn in a fish to him in MoP, your Draenor Nat will get +rep from the MoP nat.
And the other way around.

This is what I've been doing to farm the coins you get by turning in the lunkers. Since the quests are repeatable, I just go to the pond closest to the garrison, catch a sturgeon lunker, turn in it, go back, catch another, turn it in, repeat. A lot faster than traveling to the different zones. I buff my fishing skill above 900. I have a fishing weather beaten fishing hat that adds a +75 lure on use, nat's fishing boots, and a dragon fishing pole. get the hat's from the carp you get from the pond inside the garrison, they have about a 2% catch rate and the hats last for a week. The carps can also give you coins too. If you want, you can go to your shipyard and fish the sea scorpions cause you can use them to make draenor healing potions for yourself, or to sell on the AH.

I tested the rep gain bonuses and found this out:

1. Having the WoD Level 3 Trading Post which gives +20% to rep gains DOES NOT apply to Nat Pagle when turning in the Lunkers.

2. Using the DMF WHEE buff or the DMF Top Hat buff WILL GIVE YOU an extra 10% during Lunker turn ins at your WoD Nat Pagle NPC

3. Using the DMF WHEE or Top Hat will also increase Nat Pagle rep when turning in the 3 special fish to his MoP NPC at the Angler's Wharf.

as of patch 8.0.1 there is a glitch in the profession system which disallows any set bonus, any recipe to be learned and in this case, any follower to be acquired, the specified a level of profession above 300. this is due to the changes in the system and the fact there is not 350+ level in any profession besides archaelogy.

yiou may come across this error when you see set bonuses that have

requires blacksmithing 350 in red

or when trying to buy cataclysm recipes that say

requires 525 tailoring
requires 525 blacksmithing

i am 100% convinced this is the reason none of my toons can get the nat pagle follower.
level 3 fishing shack on two of them. max fishing on two of them. best friends with nat on two of them. NO QUEST.

The fishing level requirement is now 100 Draenor fishing points. But it's 100 EFFECTIVE POINTS, so boosts from poles, lures, hats, etc. count toward that value. If you un-equip your fishing gear and it drops you below 100, then you won't be able to pick up the next quest in the chain.

For instance, I went to Pandaria and turned in 寻找纳特·帕格, and nothing... Then I equipped my fishing gear and lure, and then the follow-up mission (伟大钓客的复出) became available.

You do not need to do the Enormous Achieves again.

Get max fishing.
Build Level 3 Fishing Shack.
Follow Quest to Krasarang Wilds.
Mak sure you pick up The Great Angler Returns
Return to Garrison and Hand in the quest and then you can grab the Lunkers quest.

OK, I got Nat and he is standing down at my Fishing Shack. I have not assigned him there. Yet he seems to do all the things he is suppose to do, sells stuff, collects Lunkers, etc. I don't see any special hook for Lunkers. That disappeared when I completed the quest for him. I am going to send him on garrison missions for now and see if I actually need to asign him to catch Lunkers.

I just caught a Felmouth Frenzy Lunker from a pool without assigning Nat to the Fishing Shack. Apparently one can catch all the Lunkers one wants from pools. In Garrison, Nat is standing there to sell the bait you need. There is no need to assign him to the Fish Shack, just use him as a regular follower.
