The " impaled " Spell is been casted on a Random player. Its not enough to let the whole group getting hit by this spell. Only one Player will count per Impale.
As its random you need to wait till everybody has been hit by it once.
The Impale spell has no certain restriction and will be casted troughout the fight.

Actually, the impale spell won't be cast on the highest threat target, so you either need 2 tanks or a temporary tank (like a holy paladin)

We tried this today with fury warrior tanking until our feral druid got impaled and then switched tanks and waited until everyone got impaled. One of us died during an impale but got impaled again later in the fight but for some reason we did not get the achievement done.

Impale ignores line of sight, and seems to do more damage the further away the target was. So you want to bunch up pretty close when he's a Rhino to reduce damage taken while waiting for him to impale everybody in turn.

No, unique means different people. Different race/class would be retarded. It just means that the healer, let's say, can't get it 5 times and you get the achievement.

This bugged for my party as well, after 2 hours of trying with spirit wolf taunt we decided to take in a second tank instead. Everyone got the impale but we didnt get the achivement....

This is one of those achievements where group makeup is very important. In a run with four clothies and a tank? No chance at all (well, technically it's possible, but incredibly difficult). But if you have a few non-tanks in the group with plate, you're in with a shot.
Aside from that, it's also RNG dependant as to who gets impaled first after taunting off the tank. When I earnt this achievement, it was myself (paladin, healing the run), a prot warr, blood DK, mage and spriest. I taunted off the tank when Gal'darah when he first turned into a rhino and popped Divine Protection. After Divine Protection faded the DK then taunted - during the DK's 'tanking' phase, we were lucky enough to have our first impale on the tank, and afterwards he taunted back and resumed tanking.
After this, we waited until all members got impaled - however, we had horrid luck, and the mage and spriest kept getting it, to the point where they took unlucky damage and died. So it was just me, the DK and the warr, and I got impale 2 or 3 times in a row, at which point I had to bubble - it never occured to me that this would force the impale on the DK, but it worked a treat. We then burnt him down and got the achievement.
It can be difficult, and requires a bit of a combination of skill, group makeup, coordination and luck. It's definitely not the hardest achievement on the list, but it's one of the best designed.

Got it confirmed by a GM today, this achivement is bugged, so there is a chance you wont get it even if you do it right.

We tried it today for a few times, and we got the right tactic for him.
Group setup was:
Prot Pala
Unholy DK (wear tankgear during fight)
Enhancer Shami
Rogue
Resto Shaman
To get impaled you have to stand AFTER his stomp, when people fly away, at the nearest position.
Was quite easy when we got it.
I began to tank (the DK), all other stayed 30 yard away, only Prot Pala was 15yd. when i was shot away by stomp, he ran instantly towards Rhino, and just got impaled. Then he was able to takn the rest of the fight, and we made this tactic whis everyone, who needs to be impaled.
Try it. It works. We wiped two times, because Prot Pala was to slow to run towards him, and Restoshaman died.

Just completed this with 2 people dying after getting impaled and we all got the achievement. Hardest part is just that it's so random, we had the same person get impaled 4 times :/
Maybe the thing is you just need to survive at least one impale, and if you die after that you'll still get the achievement?

The impale is not random, and it is quite manipulative.
In order to do this achievement you need two tanks.
Have your better geared tank pull the boss to one of the rails on the side. Have the boss facing toward the rail.
Once he turns into a Rhino, have the person you want to get impaled (Should be your off tank) stand at his backside, while the rest of the party stand infront of him on top of the Main tank.
When he punts, he will impale the person the farthest away from him.
So, aslong as your party gets punted toward the rail, the person at his backside will always be impaled.

You want to have a hunter in your party to dispel enrage.
Also you'd want to have someone to taunt the boss so the tank gets the chance to get impaled. Do not taunt off tank right after he switches to rhino form. he will enrage in a few seconds after. Tank has to taunt it back when boss enrages, unless you have hunter to dispell that.

My group just observed something very interesting in this encounter. Our group composition was as follows:
Holy Paladin
Protection Paladin
Fury Warrior
Elemental Shaman
Shadow Priest (me)
This needs some testing for confirmation, but it seems that Gal'darah will Impale whoever is *not* flung back by his AoE thunderclap. We successfully got our main tank Impaled twice by having the Fury Warrior taunt off him, then having the tank run out of AoE range. Test it, see if this forces the impale to target that one loner.

My group went in with the idea we were going to pull this achievment off. Even though we did complete it, we got fustrated and gave up, thought it gave us credit for doing it.
Group makeup:
- Resto Druid (me)
- Unholy DK (tank)
- Enhance Shaman
- Elemental Shaman
- Ret Pally
Basically it was a group of guildies but it was also setup so theres always someone who could heal incase someone was low on mana or I was got hit with the impale. Also so that we could endure a very long fight.
We were having problems with our tank getting the impale. It took two long trys, both times we brought the boss down to about 10,000 health and completly stopped dps. The first attempt everyone got impaled. The tank only got the impale after everyone died though. He died with the boss at about 2,000 health. Second try the tank never got the impale. We became fustrated and gave up thinking theres a reason the tank wasn't getting the impale we didn't know about. For whatever reason we got the achievment.

Ok 2 min ago we finally did it on our 2nd try.
This works really well!
Our setup was:
Prot warrior
DPS warrior
DPS warrior
Mage
Resto shaman.
But it should work with any setup including an offtank type. Intense healing, tho. Especially at the start.
Our tactic:
We used an large range.
Resto shaman (me), prot warrior and dps warrior in tank gear went all the way right passed the boss and pulled him far away from the mage and dps warrior sitting at the back. This way, they did not get into combat while we did.
The dps warrior in tank gear started off and we hoped he would impale our prot warrior. He did! The prot warrior was not doing anything besides disarming so the dps warrior in tank gear didnt get hit that much. (Wasting shield wall here isnt an bad idea, for the dps warrior in tank gear).
After that the prot warrior took over and we waiting for an impale on the dps warrior in tank gear. He got it right after the prot warrior. After that we let him die, so the others had an bigger change. His dps was crap anyway in tank gear.
So the other 2 dps, still not in combat, ran in and started dps. We did as many as dps as possible untill the next impale. The mage got it first and we decided to let it die aswell. Then there were just the dps warrior and me left who needed impale and we both got it aswell.
We finished the already on low hp boss and got happy times!
On an side note: I totally forgot to loot my emblem and daily heroic item.. >.<

Just did this today:
Prot Pally
Unholy DK (Me in tank gear)
Resto Druid
Rogue
Hunter
After i got Impaled I took aggro and the pally went to off heals so he could get the impale and heal if the healer got impaled.
It seems that you need to be relativly close to him to get impaled so just have the people you need to be impaled close by just incase.

I tried for this achievement for a whole night and killed him after getting tired of trying to figure out why it'd never impale me as the tank. We tried out-ranging and LOSing it, which didn't work and briefly tried to have a boomkin tank, which he basically chickened out of attempting. We even tried to kill off everyone who got impaled except for me and the healer.
I read the comments here and tried forcing him to target certain people by making them stand close. We got the perfect run with me being impaled first after having a DK tank after the first rhino transformation. I stood just out of the knockback range and then ran up to within 5 yards and got impaled. The second impale went to our tree healer which was slightly further than everyone else, but every impale after was on the closest person.

Just to mention. Using 2 normal tanks and 2 normal healers (read healing is their spec and gear) turns this achievement into a joke.
All you have to do is wait for everyone to get impaled. With 2 healers you can go basically forver and with 2 tanks you have no problem with offtanking.
Did this with me (hunter), prot warrior, feral druid, holy priest and resto shaman. We did the rest of the instance quite smoothly aswell (feral druid DPSing).

The most stable strategy for a 'normal' group make up (no extra main tanks, no extra main healers):
1. Have the main tank pull and tank as normal. Off tank (usually a dpser in tank gear) gets in combat to soak some charges during the humanoid phase, but otherwise stays out of melee range as to avoid taking any unnecessary whirlwind damage
2. Healer heals as necessary; the other two dpsers do not get in combat at all to reduce the number of potential impale victims.
3. As the main tank I've found it's not a bad idea to run Gal'darah in circles, in order to mitigate a lot of the damage, and also already be on the move when he strats whirlwinding. As there's no-one dpsing at this time threat isn't an issue.
4. Once Gal'darah transforms the off-tank taunts immediately. The healer will probably need to boost their healing at this point.
5. Continue the fight until the main tank gets impaled, at which point they taunt immediately and resume tanking for the rest of the fight.
6. Once the off-tank and healer are both impaled, the other two dps join the fight. People have said that Impale ignores LoS - however, unless my groups have been extremely lucky this isn't true. We usually tuck the people who have already been impaled around a corner so they're out of LoS (except the healer, and the MT - who should have already been impaled), and they don't get impaled again. It could be extreme luck on our part, or people not actually getting out of LoS for the people who say it doesn't work.
7. Aside from this, we don't really start dps until all the impales have gone off. The fight done normally is a joke, and once the impales have been sorted it's simply a case of tank and spank.
One final note - 'What The Eck' is a ridiculously easy achievement in Gundrak, but if anyone in your group hasn't done it, let them know that there's a chance they won't get it done if going for Share The Love, due to the increased difficulty of the fight and higher mortality rate. ^_^

Did this today with the following group.
Prot Warrior Tank
DPS Warrior Offtank in tank gear
Mage
Enhance Shammy in healing gear
Holy Priest
Prot Warrior engages, everyone else stands back, ranged dps and tank DPS him in troll form. After whirling slash (disarm during it, after a few wipes tank will develop a sense for when it is coming, heh), move him closer to the group. Shammy and priest on heals all the time, in case priest gets the impale while he's enraged in rhino (ouch), as the offtank will go down like a sack of bricks if that is the case.
The instant he shifts, spam heals on the offtank who must taunt as soon as he shifts, clump up, everyone right against the wall.
Hopefully the tank will be impaled, may not happen first shift though. As soon as he's back to troll, tank picks him back up and moves back out, kiting around.
Rinse and repeat until the tank gets impaled, once tank is impaled, its the normal fight, just slow DPS until everyone has their impale then burn him down.

I tried this with a group and after everyone got impaled, we killed him, and did not get an achievement. Our only thought is that it was because our hunter feigned death (in an attempt to not get impaled again). Maybe this somehow confused the impale counter for the encounter.

we did this using one tank and having a hunter to "taunt" (distracting shot) with good timing to get the boss to impale the tank.
Setup:
DK (tank)
hunter
mage
warlock
resto druid
Only the tank/druid/hunter entered combat, the hunter would distracting shot 4/5 seconds into the rhino phase, and kite for long enough for either the druid or tank to get in impaled.
several tries and it worked, the others entered combat and we slowed dps until we had all been hit.

war tank (me) / chaman elem / hunt beast / paly holy / warlock
After 2 try, after trying offtankin pet and elem noway it's Os !
3rd and successfull try,
was to stop Dps at 10% after he had impaled all the others apart me
,
i took out my sword and i start loosing my aggro. then wating for him to morph the paly 'heal' taunt him and shamy took relay on heal,
and i was bumped far, i charged and get back to a small distance 20meters, he impaled me ,
job's done
Ps: Don't Burn Dps and watch out for mana, give it enough time to morph
Good luck

To get impaled you have to stand AFTER his stomp, when people fly away, at the nearest position.
This is most certainly not true. Tried numerous different ways and it was always a random (or seemingly) random person.
Eventually got it by having our 2 hunters sit by the wall that comes up to stay out of combat (limit healing and RNG of impale) until MT got impaled. Had a DK taunt during rhino phase and tank till MT got impaled, then having the first 2 DPS to get impaled kill themselves to limit the RNG (worked first try). We brought him down to about 30% before having the 2 DPS kill themselves.
Were also having problems with him bugging out and hitting the healer (mid charge) before impaling which obviously gibbed him.

If you have a death knight in your group, have him use Army of the Dead.
We wanted to do this achievement and so we brought in 2 tanks (a prot war and a DK tank). We intended on having the prot warrior get impaled and then have him taunt off the DK, but when our DK used Army of the Dead and the boss was on them, the tank got impaled, and so no taunting was necessary.
Don't count on it, though, since the imapling is random and your tank may not get impaled while the army is up; have someone who can offtank for a bit as a backup plan.

We did the achievement, and there is small trick you can use to get your tank impaled. Our group consisted of resto shaman, ench shaman, boomkin druid, warlock, and prot warrior. We started the fight with three persons, with lock and ench shaman waiting in the stairs out of combat. By starting the event with just three persons, you get 50% chance to impale the tank. When the boss switches to rhinoform, let someone (in our case, druid) taunt the boss and wait for impale. He will never impale the person with highest threat, so its 50/50 if the healer or the tank gets impaled. In case the healer gets impaled, our druid was ready to heal the tank who immediately taunted the boss back for better migitation. When the tank gets the impale, just let the dps join the race, let them get their share of impales and finish the boss.

When my group did this, I as the tank did not get impaled, at all. We weren't aware at the time he doesn't impale the highest on his threat (tank).
He impaled everyone else in the group, healer + 3 dps. He killed the healer, who then got a battle rez, and got impaled again after getting back up. Eventually we got tired of it and just killed him, and in the end I the tank did not get impaled at all.
We still got the achievement however - perhaps getting impaled on two sides of a battle rez counts you as two people getting impaled?

My party was far from viable it seemed (Me a Prot Warrior, Warlock, Hunter and 2 Shaman) and we tried various pet OTs without success (even with up to 4 pets active if they started either they died fast to crits before Impale could land on me or if I started they could not get aggro off me at all even though I'd only kept Thunderclap active and the Hunter was Misdirecting to the Voidwalker).
After reading all 46 comments here we took CycloneDuke's theory that being Impaled before and after a combat Res might allow that person to qualify as 2 "unique people" - so we applied it as a deliberate if desperate tactic: we had all 4 nonTanks Impaled, then the Warlock suicided via Hellfire and ressed using his Soulstone.
We waited forever for the Warlock to get Impaled again (he really loved the two Shaman!) and then just killed the Boss.
Amazingly it worked!
It might explain some of the "bugged successes" as it's feasible Blizzard wanted this doable by other means than just bringing 2 Tanks.

Pulled this one off today. We weren't aiming for it when we went in, but we decided to give it a shot when we got to the boss. Warrior tank, priest on heals, and a Boomkin, Death Knight, and Warlock (me). DPSed him down to about 20% health, and backed off. I kept Siphon Life on him, and just let Drain Life tick once or twice to keep myself topped off.
He impaled everyone except for the tank right in a row, so we figured we had it. None of us realized at the time that he doesn't impale the person at the top of his threat list. Our priest got oneshotted both times she got impaled, but we got her back (SS and battle rez). Our boomkin did a great job offhealing.
After about five minutes of waiting for him to impale the tank, we decided to just finish him off. He was almost dead anyway. We bring him down...and get the achievement.
We were confused, but didn't complain. :D
EDIT - Reading the other comments pretty much leads me to believe that if you get rezzed in the fight, and then impaled a second time, you count as a second "unique" person. Hopefully Blizz keeps it like that (it may even be to design). Taking two tanks seems odd for just a regular Heroic achievement.

We did it after several tries and I am pretty convinced it has alot to do with threat level.
obviously the Tank never gets impaled. And it does seem that sometimes he will impale someone for absolutely no reason, as we had a war stand there, and not touch him once and still get impaled twice.
however, 3 runs before getting the acheivement, it worked exactly as planned, though we didnt get the acheivement for other reasons. Group members dying or killing him before the last one was impaled.
Our strat:
Only 1 DPS at a time. Bring all plate/high armor (druid) classes. preferably a healing class or two aside from your main heals. help heals with low threat heals (no healing touch or tranquility). have a designated off-tank
OT starts tanking, MT starts DPSing. group stays back when hes in troll form and close in rhino form (avoids whirlwind but takes less damage from charges). Make sure the DPSer is using as much threat gen abilities as he can without all-out taunting. if he grabs aggro, just taunt off him. your MT should get impaled first.
Then your MT picks up the tanking. the OT DPS until impaled. Either him or the healer will get it now. remember to assist heals ESPECIALLY if the healer gets impaled, but off healers cant over-threat the DPSer
after the OT gets impaled, get your other DPSers impaled, starting with the weakest DPS. use as much aggro generating abilities as possible. warriors in defensive stance using heroic strike and MS/BT etc.
the key for us was having only 1 person DPS at a time. it kept us from killing him too fast, and seemed to do AWESOME at getting him to target everyone seperately.
he still did impale non-dps target once ina while, most times it was a prior DPSer who was healing, or our healer, so I think there may be aggro resets somewhere... maybe when changing forms, or stomping... not 100% sure
in any event. I cant say 100% that threat is the trigger, but it worked perfectly for us. 3 times in a row we had him impaling the targets we wanted.
hopefully this helps a bit... oh, BTW, bring crappy DPS... its an easy instance, the less DPS on this guy the better, gives you more time to go for the acheivement

Very simple.
Bring two tanks. He only targets the people behind him for impale. Have first tank hold agro, second tank is the only one standing behind him. He will get impaled. Switch tanks, cycle everyone through.
As long as you're the only one standing behind him, you WILL get impaled.
Very easy.

The achievment is currently bugged, and may not award even if everyone gets impaled.
My group last night tried it, tank got impaled early on, everyone else got impaled. He charged the mage and hit him with a melee attack as he got impaled, so the mage died. Battle rezzed him, he got impaled a second time. Again, he died, but this time we got the in-game "boss mod" warning saying that he was impaled. Battle rezzed him again, everyone else in the group got at least one impale, killed the boss, no achievment.
There's a few posts on the bug forums saying the same thing, so it wasn't just a one-time fluke.

The achievement is working again, just did it about 15 minutes ago.
Group make up:
Prot Warrior
Unholy Death Knight
Balance Druid
Arcane Mage
Holy Priest
It was quite simple really, I (the Death Knight) wore my tanking gear and taunted immediately after the boss transformed into the rhino, and we simply waited that way until the Main Tank got impaled and then it was just a waiting game again until everyone had been impaled.
NOTE: The boss will not impale the Main Tank, so make sure that you have someone taunting or getting aggro off some how to make that happen.

Did this today. Our setup was me (DK tank), a DK DPS, Warlock, Holy Paladin and a Rogue. We're all pretty geared, so I guess it was easier for us, but the principle is the same.
- Tank pulls the boss far into a corner in one of the puddles.
- We basically kept DPS to a minimum (auto-attacking) until he shapeshifted.
- Once he impales someone, heal them up. The person (unless he's the healer or tank) then runs to the stairs where you came in, so you lose LoS from the boss, and thus cannot be impaled again.
- When he impales again, he has to pick someone from the remaining group that is within LoS.
- Rinse and repeat until only tank and healer remain (everyone else has been impaled once). Then switch tanks (our DK picked him up after the healer was impaled, so I could get impaled as well)
- Once he's impaled tank and healer, nuke him down as normal.
- ?
- Profit.

HOW TO:
This is how my group discovered how to do this achievement as of 3.0.8a? pretty sure thats right
During phase one use the circular platform in the center with your ranged standing stack against a side, everyone else should be in middle with very light DPS
During Phase 2 everyone stacks up on the ranged and wait for impales as long as your back is to the wall the impale will do minimal damage, you cant be thrown and therefore he cant get enough range to pwn you.
When someone is impaled if they are not a healer they should run to the far side of the room where the boss starts and out of 40 yard range. From what we have noticed he will not impale these people.
When everyone but the tank has gotten impaled switch out your tanks for a DK/Warrior/Pally whatever doesn't get destroyed and then wait for your tank to get impaled its GG from there.
Accomplished with Warrior tank/DK/Rogue/Warlock/Priest

Our group just did this achievement with no real OT and it wasn't really hard.
Group setup we had:
warrior(prot)
druid(restor)
shaman(enh)
mage(fire)
warlock(destro spec, no special talents for VW) - ME
We had 3 options to do this boss:
1) with bress bug mentioned above
2) using ehn shammie taunt while boss in codo from to get tank impaled
3) using my pet to tank untill warrior gets impale
we decided to do it with VW (3rd way)
Mage and Shaman(threw out totems be4 fight started) were standing out of combat until tank gets impale, VW was tanking just fine but since his TPS is too low compared to healers I had to use Heath Funnel to take off some threat of healer. We were lucky and 1st one who got impaled was a warrior(33% chance since we had pet tanking). Then we just had tank taunted boss and w8ed till everyone else get impale. Killed boss and got our achievements.
To boost VW surviability I've used pvpgear(stamina ftw) and demon armor. After getting all group buff(totems, shouts included) he was above 35k hp and 60% dmg mitigation from armor. For a wlock with improved health funnel talent it would be even easier to do.

I tried doing this the other day, and encountered the wonderful bug where he'll hit the target of impale with a melee attack at the same time he casts impale, 1-shotting them. This happened to me, then I was battle rezzed, and then happened to a shaman, who ankh'd. We both got impaled again during the same attempt without dying, and killed the boss with all 5 of us alive, but didn't get the achievement. Apparently if the target of impale gets killed and battle-rezzed, you don't get it. >:O
I can only figure that a death resets the way it calculates it, cause the MT was impaled before either of us got killed, and we didn't do a tank swap back to the OT for the MT to get re-impaled after we were rezzed cause we didn't think it would matter.
In conclusion, have 30k life so if he melees you and it crits you don't die, since that can apparently cause you not to get the achievement.

We tried the achievment last night with a pally tank, feral druid OT, mage, shadow priest, and moonkin druid (the group tried to do Less-rabi with 4 DPS earlier; sadly we failed by about 2 seconds, but we did the rest of the instance without getting a real healer).
The fight started out fine, the feral druid OT started tanking the fight, the pally got impaled, switched tanks, had everyone else come in. The feral druid, the priest, and myself (moonkin) all got impaled. The mage, however, never did. After a short while, he decided to charge the priest and did that wonderful melee hit bug, one-shotting her. I gave her a battle rez. Soon after that, he bugged on me again, one-shotting me, and did the same to the priest a second time. I got a battle rez from the feral druid. Soon after that, I got impaled yet again, although this time he didn't hit me beforehand. Our overzealous mage decided to end the fight at that point, killing the boss before he had gotten impaled.
Guild chat was then spammed with 5 people getting the Share the Love achievment.
Yes, we had three deaths during the fight, two battle rezzes, and one person never got impaled. Yet we got the achievment anyway.
The best I can figure out is:
-If he charges and tries to impale someone, but hits them with a one-shot melee attack, the impale won't count.
-If someone gets impaled, drops out of the fight (dies and battle res/ankh/soulstone, Vanish, Feign Death, Invisibility, possibly Shadowmeld), and then re-joins and gets impaled, they count as a second person for the achievment.
-If MORE than 5 unique people get impaled (see above), the achievment doesn't work.
But I have no idea if that's right or not. Best I can figure is, keep trying, if you don't get it one day, go again the next day, and DON'T try to use any "leave combat" abilities.

As for today (Feb, 7th) I've noticed a some kind of a bug(?)
If impaled person dies while being impaled it does not count as a succesful impale.
If impaled person dies *after* impale and then combat-ressed, impale he had resets.
If person who was impaled once dies, gets CR and receives impale again it does not count as well.
We had a mage who died because of impale, was ressed and impaled again and we still did not get an achievement.

His is how we did it:
Group Setup:
Death Knight
Feral Druid
Mage
Rogue
Shadow Priest (as healer)
Worked well - even though the priest was not heal specced.
The trick: Mage and Rogue are able to leave combat.
So, DK and priest started the fight.
First impale on the priest, Druid comes into the fight and heals the priest.
Druid goes bear, waits for impale.
Second impale on Druid (we were lucky, could have been the priest).
Druid taunted, DK waiting for impale.
Third impale on DK (lucky again, could have been the priest
Now the rogue joins the fight, DK taunts back, Druid goes far away, but in heal range to the priest
4th impale on the rogue.
Rogue goes back and vanishes, mage joins fight.
Still only Mage, Priest and DK at the front
5th impale on the mage. After that, rogue and druid join again and go all out
We had some issues with the mage being one hittet by a charge, so we minimized the risk for that by leaving the mage out of combat most of the time.
This and a bit of luck :-)

Feb 10th,
Just attempted this achievement w/ the following makeup:
Prot warrior
Ret Paladin
Resto Shamman
Destro Warlock
Blood DK
We waited patiently for all 5 members to be impaled, and did not receive the credit.
Our shaman got gibbed during his first impale, but was impaled again (several times) after rez'ing.
No soul stone was used, and noone else died. Very disappointing.

just got this yesterday. group comp:
DK "tank" (pvp spec'd but naxx-10 tanking gear)
fury warrior (with naxx-10 tank gear)
elem shammy
combat rogue
holy priest <- me
what a slow and boring fight.. we sat around waiting for the MT to get impaled a bunch of times. like the previous posts have mentioned, after the OT has been impaled, then we had him taunt once he shifts into rhino to try to get the DK to get impaled. The shammy was off-healing when i got impaled.
finally, the DK gets impaled, so we're just waiting for shammy and rogue now. Taking a while, and we finally get shammy.
at this point, we've completely stopped dps because the guy was going to die if anyone sneezed on him. finally, i'm fed up, and ask if we can try LOS'ing him.
i top the tank off w/ POM. renew, bubble, and run around the corner along with the warrior and shammy. sure enough, impale on the rogue.
so, i'm not sure if we were just really lucky, or if the LOS trick really works.
may be worth a try for future people though. good luck.

I just want you guys to know that if someone in the party dies there is a big chance you wont get the achievment.
I had to do this twice.
Kinda funny that I first brought good friends to this and we had to give it some whipes but on 2nd try I went with a pug and we got it on first try:)
Good luck!:)

Can confirm, me and some guildies did this on 17/02 and the achievement is still bugged. Holy priest died during the fight, cast rebirth, got impaled again (a couple of times just to be sure!) and still no achievement on the death.
Looks like if someone dies it bugs it out. Shame as this was the last one I needed for the glory of the hero!
Also, contacted a gm.."There are no known bugs with the fight, you'll just have to try again" *sigh*

All the explanations here are very long. Perhaps correct but I havn't read them all. Just did this tonight first try ever first attempt one shotted.. It was easy..
Myself (DK tank) a Lock a Rogue a healing pally and a DPS DK did this. Not a premade group setup or anything. The other DK put on tanking gear for the fight. I tanked until rhino phase then he taunted. I got impaled after about 3 others then I taunted and held agro the rest of the fight until him and one other that was not previously impaled got impaled. I saw no selectivity to his impaling other than the known fact about him not impaling his main threat target. No range selection or anything.. After the 5 people got impaled we burned him down and "What the Eck?" was mine along with "Share the Love". Was excited to see both achievers pop up :).
I hope this works for you if your going for this achievement. Just posting this so you don't go to too much trouble on this and overthink it.. Just so that you know it was easy and is able to complete with in about 5 minutes with nothing other than an off tank.. havegood night everyone :)

My group just got this achievement, however, we feel that it was bugged. I, as the tank, never got impaled during the encounter. We tried having our two druids go into bear form and taunt off me so I can get impaled but it never happened and the bears died. They Battled Rezzed each other and we kept fighting until the druids and healer ran out of mana and we decided to just burn down the boss. During this time, I was never impaled. However when the boss died we all got the achivement.
We had two theories. One - that the achievement has been hotfixed to only require four unique party members to be impaled and that change is not reflected in the text of the achievement or Two - That battled rezzing someone and having them get impaled a second time counts towards the "unique party member" requirement. If someone else could try out the battle rez strat and comment it would help solve our mystery. Thank you.

Group tried this for the second time. No problem for us, its just annoying when we don't get the achievement.
First try, the tank and I(OT) built threat on the boss and through the process got his health low so it's an easy kill once we're all impaled. RNG started hating on us and one of our members got impaled 6 times in a row. The last person we needed to get impaled was a warlock but he happened to die as the boss charged towards him (wtf?). We killed boss and no achievement.
Second try, we had a different group makeup but tried something different. We had the tank, OT, and healer near the fence and the 2 dps standing behind a wall to LOS the impale. We got everyone in the front impaled and then we got the dps, however the tank(paladin) bubble'd for some reason and we did not get the achievement.
I talked to a GM and all I got was they are aware on the problem but they can't do anything about it.

Just tried this achievment.
Everyone was impaled, but me (mage) died due to charge (1 shot), then quickly battle ress.
We didn't get achievment. Can someone confirm that no one can't die during this fight?
Very dissapointing.

Just did this with the Hunter Distract shot tac and it worked on the first try. We made like 4 tries before that with a Warrior offtanking but he died too fast. Also the Army of the Dead ability that the DK tank got worked really nice but during the fight 1 guy died by the impale so we had to die. Using the Army of the Dead is probably the best way as only 2 ppl enter combat and that saved repair bills for the other 3 if its a wipe.
Also during the fight our shaman died on his
2nd impale
, he just ankhed and joined back in the fight and we still got the achi

Our set up :
Ret Paly (offheal with healing gear)
Prot Warrior (main tank)
Mage (waiting)
Holy Paly (main healer)
Tank DK (OT)
Nobody was dpsing except the tanks. And it was so easy, we ended with 2 healers full mana.

Just went for this achievement and I can confirm it is still bugged (10th March 2009). All 5 unique party members got impaled, no one died and some of us even got impaled multiple times. Our step was excellent for this achievement. We used:
- Prot Warrior
- Feral Druid (OT)
- Enhance Shaman x2
- Holy Pally
The shamen off-healed to conserve the holy pally's mana and we just waited until everyone got impaled, but the achievement is bugged so no reward :(
EDIT: It seems having 2 of the same class (in our case 2 shamen) causes the achievement not to recognise 5 unique impales. I have tested this further with 2 warriors and the same thing - no achievement.

Judging from what others have posted and what I've seen first hand, I've come up with this theory about how the exact mechanics for this achievement work.
Essentially, when everyone enters combat with the boss, they are given a unique identifier (say a number from 1 to 5). When the impale happens, the server checks if this unique identifier has already been impaled. If they haven't, it increments the impale counter by one. In order for you to get credit, you must beat the boss when this counter is at 5. HOWEVER, if you leave combat, your unique ID is lost. This can be caused from a lot of things- vanish, feign death, a battle res, shadow meld, invis, SS, ect. If that happens, you get a NEW identifier when you renter combat. If you get impaled again after that, it will raise the impale counter and if it goes over 5 (to say 6 or 7) you won't get credit.
This does leave room for some abuse though, because you could, in theory, 4 man it. As long as one of your members can leave combat after getting impaled once, and then get impaled again after reentering combat the counter will think 5 people got it.

we just tried this tonight had everyone in the group get impaled, and did not get the achievement =(
a few of us contacted a GM about it and a thought about why we didnt get it was that there may be some bug with lock/hunter pets, he suggested next time to try with out pets out.... so i suppose we'll see it that works next time

I've gotten this achievement on my toon and helped three other groups get it as well, it's pretty easy once you know how.
When Gal'darah transforms into a rhino he will pause for a second, then jump straight into the air and come down, knocking everyone within a certain range backwards, stunning them. The person who is closest to him a second or two after that special attack will get impaled.
So if you want to get impaled, hang back away from the group when he transforms into a rhino, wait for him to jump in the air and knock everyone close to him down. Hopefully you're standing far enough away that his attack does not affect you. As soon as he lands run in and stand right on top of him. The closest person to him should get impaled.
As other comments here have suggested, probably best to take two tanks to this fight (or at least one plate wearing character with some prot gear in their bags). In order to have the main tank get impaled have the off tank initially gain aggro on Gal'Darah at the start of the fight and have the main tank do the trick outlined above. After that, the main tank can resume being the top aggro target for the rest of the fight.
I also did this strategy once where everyone was clearly impaled (verified in our chat logs) and we did not get credit for the achievement. According to a GM, the achievement is bugged and sometimes does not give credit for the achievement. The next day we did the same thing and got credit.
Good luck!

We got it tonight. I know kind of late but.
We used a Doomguard to start off tanking. Luckly out DK tank was the 1st to get impaled. (We got lucky)
After that we let him kill the doomguard and out DK picked up the boss. We just healed tell everyone got it.
Then we killed the boss.

My group was elemental shaman, fury warrior, holy priest, unholy DK, and prot paladin.
After several wipes we got it without anyone dying, surprisingly. Our first few wipes were caused by the paladin sustaining too many bleed effects, so at 3-4 stacks he would switch with our DK until the effects went away. I as the elemental shaman off-healed, so with 2 tanks and 2 healers we were able to last until everyone got impaled. (And yes, there were many naughty jokes in vent concerning the vocabulary necessary for this fight... ;P ) As soon as the last person was, popped bloodlust and burned him down. Very easy.

I have not managed to read all the debates, so will just post 100% working strategy from Zargzak teh Orc.
You need 2 tanks and 2 healers. This fight is nor very hard, neither too demanding to gear, so actually it's maybe better if you will have 1 DPS with healing abilities, instead of second healer.
Gal'darah
never
impales the highest threat target. So he never will impale your main tank unless he lose aggro.
Off tank pulls and tanks for some time, while main tank DPS a little and waits while he will get impaled. After main tank whill be impaled, he overthreats off tank and tanks Gal'darah to the very end. Try not to DPS too hard until everyone will get impaled. Then kill the guy.
You must not kill him too soon and you must heal through the impaled ones. If you are extremely unlucky this can took a while cause he choose victim for Impale randomly (*anyone but main tank).

here s a tip, take 2 plate wearer class (1 MT and 1 OT) 1 healer and 1 dps-healer hibryd and 1 dps.
setup was
1 drood tank
1 dk dps (OT)
1 dps pala (hibryd dps healer)
1 holy priest (healer)
1 warlock dps me
first of all, tank engage him, and the dps must stay at the beginning of the room without enter in the fight.
as soon as the off tank get impaled, let the tank lose aggro and let the OT tank him, when either the tank get impaled u can just sleep untill all get impaled, last 1 must be the dps that have to stay out of comabt untill al other 4 get impaled
this is
NOT
a dps archiv, so only tank and offtank have to damage him directly the other dps (healer hibryd) only have to heal untill all get impaled
anyway this archivment is bugged so, i really suggest u to
DISMISS
YOU PET and dont summon any during fight encounters, just a tip =)

Fairly simple achievement but you need to be geared; or at least the tanks and heals do:
The first thing you'll want is the MT and an OT. The OT doesn't have to necessarily be an actual tank but someone who can at least taunt. What we found easier was to actually open up with the OT tanking and the MT dpsing. The other two dps should stay back and do NOT engage / touch the boss. When Gal transforms he should automatically impale the heals and then impale the MT who is dpsing.
Once the MT is impaled the other two dps near the stairs (where we kept them) should engage the boss and nuke him down to roughly 15-20% of his hps. Everyone else should get impaled fairly easily and you'll have the achievement within 2-3 attempts :)
Good luck!

2 Tank method worked a treat, Main tank held it till off tank was impaled, then off tank took agro, luckily all got impaled
one after another, he didnt pick on someone like he normally does, so it's just a case of holding out till all are impaled.

I talked to a GM today and he confirmed the glitch where a group may not receive credit for completing the achievement. He also illustrated two main ways that this happens:
Pets
– These cause credit to not be given, as the event sees them as members of the party, but cannot be impaled!
Deaths
– Depending on your group composition, if someone dies and is resurrected (battle rez, for example) it wipes the credit for that player.
In order to get credit, make sure that all pets are put away (even temporary ones, such as the priest's
Shadowfiend
). Also, don't use battle rezes during the encounter.
Good luck, have fun, and share the love!

Confirmed, Tried getting it yesterday, everyone was impaled, but our healer died, he was Battle rezzed and we didnt get achieve, tried again today, same group make-up, everyone impaled, healer did die again this time, but we didn't brez him, the DPS and I (the tank), popped all our Cooldowns and managed to burn him down without any other casualties, achievement awarded.

Ok read no more. this achivement is so easy when you know how the mecanics works.
What you need to bring:
1 tank
1 dps (whit dualspec tank, (feral druid will do fine)
1 healer
1 saver (this can be bop, a ele shaman witch heal healer under inpale or something simlilar)
1 dps
So what we found out is that if the dpsers is out of range, he will not inpale them. so first off to make this easier
make the "offtank" the dps/druid/offspec guy to tank him first. then let the tank be close to boss the dps shud be as far away from the boss as possible so you get out of range. then when he have inpaled the maintank, he will taunt, and swap whit the ot. then when he has inpaled the ot its realy all about rotation. so let the one you need to be inpaled be close to boss, rest out of range. get all inpaled, and kill.
wery simple ;)
btw: the healer shud only heal when needed. a druid is a the best choice. tho its not hard whit any other healer, i did this as disc priest and only did renew, shield, pom) and it was more then enuf ;) so healer shud be rotating from healing to get out of range. heal when needed, go back again.

Though I haven't exactly confirmed it, mages should refrain from using Mirror Image. Most random-target attacks from bosses can choose NPCs such as mirror images, which will just make it longer.

Our group just tried to do this achievement. The DPS and healer all got impaled but we couldn't get him to impale the tank, but we still were able to get the achievement in the end. Our shaman healer at one point died during the impale, but self-rezed, and he was impaled again while we were waiting for the tank to get it. From what I see, this is probably what gave us the achievement.
So I guess one way to cheat it for now without an off-tank is to bring some sort of battle-rez (shaman, soulstone, druid) and let someone die after they have been impaled, and then wait for them to get impaled again, along with three other members.

Our party obtained this Achievement on 08/07/2009, with only 4 of our party getting impaled. We strung it out as long as we could, until Gal'darah only had 12K health left, and we couldn't keep him alive any longer. Each party member, except one, got impaled multiple times, but never our main tank, even though we had an off-tank keep aggro for a long period of time.
To our surprise, upon his death we all received the Achievement. I'm certainly not complaining, but in our case, all 5 of our party members certainly did NOT get impaled.
I also agree with kicken's comment above. One of our healers died, was resurrected, and was impaled again. Perhaps that "tricks" the system into thinking another unique member has been impaled.

Setup:
Prot Pala
Resto Druid
Ele Shaman
Desto Warlock
we hoped for some luck :)
Pala started to tank as usual... es far as he turns into the rhino, i taunted him (Resto Druid as bear) so i got the charge.. and lucky we.. the tank was impaled.
Ele Shaman specced to heal and healed me.. afterwards we just fighted till anyone was impaled.
I got no tank stuff or anything, I was in healgear

frustrating. stlil buggy as of 3.2
pally MT, feral OT, disc priest healer, enh sham, rogue
feral started it, pally helped heal since he was squishy until pally got impaled. in the mean time sham & rogue got impaled 2x each. soon as pally was impaled, switched tanks.
rogue & shaman got impaled a few more times, druid gets impaled, dies, more impales on the shaman & rogue, finally priest gets it. burn down the boss.
no credit.
ticket to GM was an utter waste of time.
took almost an hour to try and find a dps who'd be willing to OT for 1 fight since there were no tanks around for pally to switch. :(

Their is a trick to this achievement. It's not random... well that isn't true. The first two impales are random, the 3rd and the following impales after the 3rd are the 3rd closet character to the boss. So, two random (Hope it's tank) then you line up for the rest of the impales. It has proven to work and I have done it on all my alts this way. You just need a good tank and healer to hold it till all five people get impaled. Once impaled you should move far back since the boss likes to knock people around out of line.

My friend and I were having some trouble finding an offtank, so we tried something a little different.
Setup:
Hunter (Me)
Warlock
DPS Druid
Disc Priest
Prot Pally
What we did was have the DPS druid and the lock stay against the wall that raises once the encounter starts, and the pally engages with the priest at max range. As soon as the boss turned into a rhino, the priest ran out of the bosses range and I counted 5 seconds and shot a distracting shot to taunt the boss onto me.
The tank was immediately impaled, and then just after that people came up one at a time to get impaled by the boss. Each time we wanted someone to be impaled, we brought them into the boss's range and everyone else out of range. It worked like a charm, 1 attempt, after trying a "know-it-all" priest's strategy (who was kicked from the group just before this success) that left us with a number of wipes.
I hope this helps those who are having some trouble and have a hunter handy!

If you have a party member die, have he or she run back to the ring. Yes, they will not be able to enter the ring, but there IS a possibility that if you pull the boss to the edge, that he WILL gore the person waiting just outside. That's how we got the achievement - kept just enough heals so that the odd man out could run back in repeatedly and try to get impaled.

All in all I've tried this worth a day of /played, on 3 separate characters. It never worked as always someone different got ignored systematically. Random is random, but this thing likely is not random. I have no clue how to make it happen.

This achievement sucks big time, as people have said, it is buggy.
Our party all got impaled, took ages as we did not read here first and adopt any range strategy.
We had 2 tanks and swapped them when the MT got impaled, eventually (probably 15 minutes at least), everyone had got impaled, we killed him and no achievement :/
Reported to GM who basically stated it can be buggy and they have no way of verifying we had done the achievement so we would need to do again.
We had no pets either.

We just got this achievement last night. Our group makeup was a warrior, a druid, a shammy, a mage and a BM hunter (me). Our gear was mostly higher-level Heroics/ToCh and raid gear.
After debating using tank/offtank and hoping everyone got impaled, our tank hit upon using my pet to start out tanking Gul'darah, to allow our main tank the chance to get impaled first.
I summoned my turtle, buffed him with a Scroll of Stamina, our druid gave him a HoT, and I sent him in with Bestial Wrath and Kill Command. I kept him up with Mend Pet as long as I could. Our luck held, and our tank got impaled first, allowing him to take over. I lost my pet, but it didn't matter in the end.
Basically no one attacked Gul'Darah except our tank. We just stood, waiting to be impaled. The plan was to keep the tank healed, but to allow the DPS to die if necessary. Our mage got it three or four times, and I was last to get it. Once I landed, we opened up and burned the boss down. Ding!
Much fuss was made over the turtle after he was rezzed.
As a side note, I think it's hilarious watching people flailing wildly on the tip of this huge rhino's horn.

I'm not gonna tell you what the group makeup was, but in essence you need 2 tanks, 1 main healer, 1 off healer, and 1 dps.
Burn him down to 50% or so and stop all dps except tanks, everyone should be standing relatively close to him when he is in rhino form so they dont get charge-->impaled-->death. after one tank gets impaled he should taunt and begin tanking for the rest of the fight. Once the dps gets impaled they should run out of LoS (lots of nooks and crannies to hide behind) and same for anyone else (heals can LoS heal. Pop out, heal, hide for a sec, pop out, etc). Now I think here is the trick and the cause of the bug: He needs to be killed in his "Humanoid" form (Troll?). I attempted many times, but did not get the achievement until he was killed in his humanoid form.

RANDOM IS RANDOM.
I've read through all these on here, and on thottbot. I've read that line of sight breaks his charge. I've read that distance breaks his charge. I've read that the 2nd person, or the 3rd person, or the farthest, or the closest person is the person who gets impaled. We've tried it all. Just did it last night, we tried everything. We didn't DPS at all on the boss, just let the tank work on him with a healer and an offhealer watching each other. None of those speculations or theories work. We tried them all. The simple fact is... random is random. We had people that would get impaled being right behind the boss. Right in front of the boss. Farthest away. Closest. 3rd. 4th. The opposite side of the entire room. Around corners and far away. Nothing worked. The simple fact was, we just had to keep the tank alive and the people impaled long enough that everyone could get impaled. The only factual thing in this entire thread is that the person with aggro can NOT be impaled. That is true. So if you're going for the achievement, you need an offtank to taunt so that the main tank can also be impaled.
Good luck.

If you are a holy priest watch out for this bug: If you die on an impale and you stay as a guardian spirit for the rest of the impale you can die "gliding" in front of the boss and can't release.

Credit to a post in the middle but most people scroll to bottom for newest stuff.
The sitting method worked perfect. We had two dps sitting at the top of the stairs when you get to boss area, healer, OT, and MT went to the right pool back corner. Pulled boss, right when he transformed healer sat with hots up on MT/OT. Impale went for OT. OT took over tanking, same thing, healer sat next transform, MT took the impale. MT took it back, OT ran off to entrance and sat, we brought one dps in from stairs and did same thing. They got impaled, ran back, next dps, etc. Kept healer for last incase they died rest of group could burn down rest of boss quickly.

We completed this last night.
Group:
Prot Pally
Feral Druid (me)
2 Mages
Resto Shaman
In a rarity, I got to play feral instead of resto and that changed up our strategy going in immensely. We weren't sure how we were going to do it, but when we got to it and the group agreed, I went with the tank switch strategy and it worked.
Going in, I was Bear with the prot pally DPSing and the shaman. Prot got the impale immediately, I downshifted to cat form and just stuck around with some paw slaps until I got the impale and back out to the circle and have the first mage step in.
After he got impaled, we had him shift back and the other mage step in. First mage ended up getting killed, with the random rhino attack. The second mage got instagibbed with the random attack and impale combination. I BRed him, just in case and we went in for the kill and got the achievement. I was worried that the insta kill on him would have negated it, as I read that it bugged out on that in the past, but not this time.
It felt easy, but the shaman got impaled about 7 times and she was in her PVP gear (by accident) - at least 3 of those times she was redlined and my weak rejuvs were thrown her way. Might be something to think about for further healers in there that are going for this achievement.

There is a way to do this without 2 tanks. If a person dies during the fight after being impaled, gets ressurrected by Reincarnation (Soul Stone and combat ress might work too) and then gets impaled again, he is count as two unique party members. This way the tank does not have to get impaled so it should get much easier.
This is how my group did it: Tank and Enhancement shaman ran for the boss, and everyone else kept distance and took no aggro. We waited untill Gal'darah impaled the shaman and then let him die. Then he Reincarnated and we waited untill he got impaled again. After this, the rest of the group joined the fight and we just had to wait for him to impale us all.

Just attempted this with the following: Protection Warrior (
OT
), Blood Death Knight (
MT
), Restoration Shaman, Mage (me), and Fury Warrior.
Our MT opened up the fight holding enough aggro for the OT to get impaled. Luckily our OT got impaled first, then instantly opened up with all of his threat-building abilities to hold Gal'darah aggro'd. The second impale went to MT. After MT and OT were impaled, myself and the Fury Warrior moved into range to try get impaled ourselves. The MT moved by stairs to try stay out of range, but he managed to get impaled twice more before myself, the Fury Warrior and Shaman got impaled. (If you do the math, each member of my group got impaled at least once.)
We burned the boss down after everyone was impaled, but no achievement was earned. I should note that the Shaman died while being impaled, although he managed to self-res in time to save the wipe. I do not know whether or not the Shaman's death affected the outcome of us not getting the achievement. However I'd take it into consideration nonetheless.
Best of luck to everyone looking to do this achievement! Hope you have better luck than my group!

Okay, I was able to multibox this. Played 4 elemental shaman with a tank. Tank was the only one that did any damage to the boss. The tank had back to wall to keep from being thrown around. Each shaman to get impaled got a raid symbol to keep track. After he impaled all 4 shaman, I sacraficed one. I left the shaman to be sacrificed next to the tank, when he went out of form and did whirlwind, the shaman died. I reincarnated him shortly after, and waited until that shaman that got "sacrificed" to get impaled again. He impaled few of the other shaman and finally impaled the reincarnated one. Soon after that, just DPSed him down and got the achievement. The tank never go impaled.
From what I'm reading in the comments, it's rather simple how it works:
1) You have to have EXACTLY 5 unique impales.
2) A unique impale includes players along with pets.
3) If someone dies and comes back in whatever fashion (such as rebirth or reincarnation) if impaled again, will count as a unique impale.
I've done the reincarnation trick today, so it still works.

Ok, the achi is bugged but this is how my group easily did it.
Setup:
Holy pala (me, healer)
Prot warrior(tank MT)
Prot warrior(tank OT)
Feral druid (dps)
Resto druid (healer)
First we let the MT tank the boss till everyone gets impaled, then we let the OT tank the boss till the MT gets impaled. Then you just tank n spank and heal, I strongly recommend 2 healers incase one gets impaled.

It's really buggy.

Had the same issue today but we found out that one person did not take damage from the impale(albeit they did get the impale debuff). It could be that any ability that fully absorbs the damage from impale should be avoided to guarantee the achievement is successful.

As o f 3.3 Brezing someone does not count as a second try. Nor does using a soulstone. We had 4 different people impaled plus the healer who was SSed and the warlock who was brezed both impaled twice. Did not get the achievement.

Completed this today. Setup was : Warlock, DK tank, Mage, Resto druid and Enh shammy(me). Unable to make this two-tank style, i specced resto and we let the Void tank all the encounter. He sure wasn't high on hp, but with two healers we managed it. This way the only one who couldn't be impaled was our mighty blue warrior of justice. I can't recommend this strategy if your healers aren't epic-geared though.

I got in a group last week trying to knock out as many Glory of the Hero achieves as possible. We started with Gundrak. That's as far as we went.
Several tries for Less-Rabi and finally nailed it, just dumb luck with the timing of his casts.
At least 10 tries on this one before we finally gave up, not out of frustration, but because we did it right and it still didn't work.
Group setup:
Prot warrior (me)
Holy Pally
Ele Shaman
Rogue
Mage
The biggest problem was getting me impaled, and we'd focus on that first before making sure everyone else got it. The 10th and final try: started out with only me and the pally in the fight, everyone else standing back, when he transformed the pally immediately drew aggro, I got impaled. We all cheered.
After that the pally got it, then the rogue (who died), then the shaman, then the mage. Each of us got it once, no one battle rezzed, and still no achievement. Everyone gave up after that.
At least 14 wipes total, and all I got was Less-Rabi.

It's a rather sadistic way to do the encounter, but it worked for us on accident.
Simply put, if a dps keeps getting impaled, let them die. Being dead significantly lowers your chances of being impaled again :P. Just don't release or you might not get the achievement.

Can confirm that this achievement is still ultra-frustrating. Dying/rezzing messes up the counter, and it still appears Pets of any kind, temp ones as well, mess up the counter (this one I cannot 100% confirm like the rezzing tho)

I feel like sharing my story here, I think there are alot of horrible stories here wich could scare people.
Like many others I did my research on this achivement, mainly reading up on Wowhead and listening to guildies - for about 2 months I was the last needed for the Meta Glory of the Hero. Not that I ever aimed for it, but like many others I got most achivements with little to none effort or by helping guildies.
A late evening I decided to PuG it, wich with common sense sounded impossible - I guess I was tired.
I got what I thought was a close to perfect team.
Protection Warrior
Feral Druid
2 Rogues
Resto Shaman being me.
I pep talked the guys who also needed the achivement, told them they should be ready for close to 15 minuttes of focus.
The ONLY tactic I decided to use was letting the Feral Druid catch aggro on pull, and get the Warrior impaled who then should taunt it back.
Now this is what happened.
1. Impale = Warrior.
2. Imaple = Druid.
3. Impale = Rogue 1
4. Impale = Shaman (me)
Wow I thought to myself... But then I notice Rogue 2 standing still doing nothing, next happening is "Rogue 2 has gone offline" ..I felt quite a bit of rage at that point. But then...
5. Impale = DCed Rogue.
At that point we just burned him down, spending less that 4 minuttes doing this.
Sure we got lucky and random is indeed random, but I felt like a this thread needed a possitive story.

I got the achievement today, with only 1 tank, and i can say that it is doable (i also got Less-Rabi with this group, all in 40mins from the 1st attempt both achievements).
1st of all our tactic was this:
tank entered the "area" with the healer, and we waited till the healer got impaled (in the meantime, the dps were far away from the boss, tank and healer), after healer got impaled, 1 dps gone to the boss and dps him but very very low (not to kill him too fast), and waited till he got impaled, after that he came back, another dps gone to take his place, ... same thing for all 3 dps in total, then at the end, when all were impaled except tank, one of our dps wich luckily was a hunter distracted the boss to him a little, so the tank will lose aggro, and the tank finally got impaled (boss was at 35k.... very close to dying), we all though that he wasnt going to impale our tank anymore, but LUCKILY he did... huh.... after that we just killed him in 2sec... and enjoyed our 2 achievements :)) so the bottom line is that it is doable with only 1 tank, just need some luck, a good healer and a tank. GL to all!

A strategy that worked for us tonight:
I (blood dk tank) went in alone. Everyone else including healer stayed back so they didn't enter combat (this is very important as ill explain later).
Self heals / cooldowns to survive until he turned into Rhino, immediately popped Army of the Dead. He cant impale the main aggro target, but the ghouls taunted and held aggro long enough for me to get impaled (and it WILL work, since theres nobody else in combat thats a possible target for impale). After that, everyone went in, holding on dps until the other 4 ppl got impaled.
Now to do Watch him Die =/

I did this achievement the other day, and a few classes can make this achievement much quicker. We ran the standard 3 dps, 1 tank, 1 healer setup.
However, we did have a mage and a rogue in our group. After the rogue survived he impale, he vanished and ran around a corner, breaking LoS from the boss....we was out of combat so he just sat there in stealth. Because he was no longer in combat, he could not get targeted again.
After the mage got impaled he ran off and invised..and stood around the corner with the rogue. With both out of combat, the boss continued to randomly choose between our tank, lone dps, and healer.
With a hunter as 3rd dps (or any nightelf with shadowmeld) we could have let our 3rd dps get out of combat as well. But we had a warrior as 3rd dps. I think we went through a total of 7 impales before everyone had been impaled, then we all ran back in and finished the boss.

Dying does NOT reset the impale counts.
As you can see in my pic
, I have a dead fury warrior because he tried to tank for me and he became "Weapwned" for the millionth time from the time I did H OK with him and Gundrak. This may be an issue if you B-Rez someone, but it's a waste of time unless you are seriously ungeared. If your group has over 4000 in gear score the only thing you should worry about is having the DPS tank Gal'darah for the tank so he can impale him. I was quickly impaled after the DK took over for me - having them tank only when he switches.
Otherwise, get him to transform and stop ALL DPS till everyone gets impaled. The only one who should have aggro is the tank. Then later on have a DPS briefly take over.

Did this just now
Group:
Me (tank)
DK dps
Priest healer
2 hunters
Basically we just dps'd until he transformed at about 50%, I tanked him in the water to the right of him on the wall. When the hunters got impaled we had them go back to the stairs leading up to his area and fd out of los. We waited for the dk to get impaled and he taunted off me and tanked until I got impale. Then I taunted back, priest got it and hunters came back and we killed it.
The DK died right at the end but we still go the Achievement.

Got this achiev today on my DK. Group set up was:
Blood DK DPS(me)
Prot war tank
Dest lock
Spriest
Resto druid
We did slow DPS on the boss until he transformed then stopped all DPS when in mammoth form so we could make it last longer.ended up getting 3 impaled on first transform (spriest and resto druid and me) So only the lock and tank needed to go. We got lock first second transform. We were slightly confused for a second and had no idea on how to get tank impaled. We then figured out that we need to have a person OTing during one transform and hopefully you'll get lucky and tank will be impaled. So being the 2nd heaviest armored i had to OT for a little while while. Spriest got impaled again and then finally tank did.Killed the boss and got our achievs.
Sorry for the wall o' text but its a complex achiev.

Prot Warrior(Me)
Disc Priest
Shadow Priest
Balance Druid
Demo Warlock
Shadow Priest was the only one to die whole fight, Brezzed her, carried on. Took a while, but we got the achieve.
Balance Druid had Feral gear, went bear. Waited until all five of us had gotten impaled once. Maybe that's what some people are missing? I can't be sure.

I actually have a theory for people to try out. We tryed it on this achive and... either it was PURE random or it actually worked.
If you stand out of LoS from the boss he wont impale you. This is purely speculation but whenever someone got impaled they would go LoS and... a diffrent person would be impaled.
So maybe this is a 'Random is random... in line of sight ofc'.

Easy way to get this achievement:
First, you need two tanks. Doesn't have to be tank spec but at least the 2nd tank needs to be able to sustain the damage until the main tank gets impaled.
Second, when someone gets impaled in the party, he needs to run out of line-of-sight. Some people will argue that this doesn't work, but actually it does if you use the right obstacles. I did it with all my alts and it worked perfectly every single time. You can use the small cavity on either left or right side of the room. So again, when you get impaled, run out of LoS, that's it.
Third, the main tank cannot be impaled. That's why a second tank is needed. And since the order will be "random", you cannot predict when the 2nd tank will get impaled before he can taunt to let the main tank get impaled as well.

This method worked for us - Let who ever gets impaled (except for tank and heals) die. Took us 6 attempts before we tried this method. The first time the OT got impaled 6x in a row. Not sure if it was cos he had agro from tanking.
Setup.
2 Tanks
2 Dps
1 heals
1: OT Tank
MT gets Impaled..........1/5 impaled, 5/5 players left alive
2: MT Tank
OT gets Impaled/dies...2/5 impaled, 4/4 players left alive
3: DPS1
Impaled/dies.....................3/5 impaled, 3/3 players left alive
4: DPs 2
Imapled/dies.....................4/5 impaled, 2/2 players left alive
5: Heals
Impaled/dies....................5/5 Impaled, 2/2 players left alive
This method removes players from possible re impaling which happens a lot.
Remember the order you get impaled is totally random. So you won't always get this order. This is a guide to show you it can be done like this. You may find your healer gets impaled at the start and thus you cant let him die. At the end you need
at least
Heals and Tank alive, assuming at the end of that rotation the heals didn't get impaled.
If there is one person who needs to be impaled, let those who are already impaled die so long as its not the Tank or Heals.
We were lucky that after the MT got impaled first, our healer got impaled next. Then it was a matter of letting the dps die so the remaining players can get impaled.
IF YOU GET IMPALED AND DIE DONT RES!

As a mage, keep in mind that if you have already been impaled once, you do not have to get impaled again ! If he charges toward you, just blink behind him mid-charge, and he will stop, target another nearby party member, and impale them instead. I have been able to re-create this many times, so I know it works.

did it today easy peasy
2 people died
had 2 shamans, dk tank, a hunter and a paladin
the other shaman and i both went resto just for an easier healing time.
i got impaled like 7 times and the paladin died after getting impaled so couldn't taunt off the tank so he could get impaled
so we got the hunter to use distracting shot and we just spam healed him.
we also got the "less rabi" achievement before hand :P
both didn't glitch.

Very simple. Bring a dps with a tank OS. Or a well geared plate wearer or feral druid will do. Keep tanks alive until one of them gets impaled. Then have the tank who has been impaled pick up aggro. The other two dps should run to the bottom of the stairs to avoid getting impaled multiple times. This will leave you with a tank, the off tank and the healer within his impale range. Shouldn't be long till he picks the other tank to impale instead of the healer and bam, burn him down, you win.

With current gear, we did in a long fight that lasted 9min52sec.
Simply DPSd him down to around 20% and waited for people to get impaled. What really helped was to let the dps die after getting impaled, and let the healer and tank duo untill they're both impaled, just make sure you have him at low health so the last guy standing can nuke the last 5-10k of his health.

Just did it.
I switched DK tank spec and started the fight to get my warrior impaled.
Then the warrior tanked while we were just waiting, doing nothing, except for the healer.....well ... you know ... healing.
Took 12 minutes, for the beast seemed to fancy our sexy BE priest (male :s).
On a side note, pets did not seem to affect the boss as I had my ghoul and our hunter had his wolf, both out.

Good news ppl :)
I think i discovered an exploit by accident. here is what u should do.
Get a 5 man grp of ppl u know. during the encounter when one of the dps gets impaled, make him leave the grp leaving a spot open. when the new dps joins the grp its still 1/5 members impaled wich means the tank doesnt have to be impaled. the new dps will count as the 5th party member impaled. everyone will get the achievement. on most servers u dont have to wait long to get a new dps in the grp so the time needed to stall the encounter is small. dont believe it? try it (and please give a reply if this worked for you, because im not that confident in this, but it happend for me) :P glhf
Edit: u need to use the lfg tool to find the last dps.

Just wanted to post my successful try on this achievement done November 26th.
Group consisted of:
Me (Mutilate Rogue,Dps)
Destruction warlock (Dps)
Arcane mage (Dps)
Warrior (Tank)
Paladin (Healer)
The idea was that I should start tanking the boss (the person in the party with the highest treat to the boss, won't get impaled). I went PvP mutilate spec with my rogue, then put on PvP bracers/ring/belt to gain some health / resilience. Then I (the rogue) started the fight using Garrote --> Evasion --> Recuperate(to gain the heal ticks and the -6% damage taken) then tanked the boss. It took some time before the boss transformed into a rhino, so the paladin had to heal me trough it all. When the boss had transformed into his rhino shape, and had impaled the warrior "tank", the warrior would taunt the boss and tank him. Then we all waited for the rhino to impale all the party members. When all 5 have been impaled, you just kill the boss. Pretty easy, just keep heals coming for the offtank, the 3000dmg/sec DoT is pretty nasty combined with his meele hits.
Achievement gained!
This tactic works 100%.

Is it possible to do this with just 2 players, who are in a party with different alts?
I'm with 2 alts, guildmember is with 3. We start with 2 (and hence we will know for sure who will be impaled). Once the alt not tanking has been impaled, log out and get the new one in the fight. Rinse and repeat.
No idea if this works, anyone has tried it?
Edit: nvm, there's a wall, so you can't get the alts in battle :)

Was able to 2-man this the other night, however it obviously requires you and/or the other person have enough alts to have five unique characters be impaled. The key is that even though he puts up a wall preventing characters from running in, if you tank him right next to the wall another player *can* hit him through the wall and that will cause him to impale the person outside the wall (and pulling them inside).
It took several attempts and a couple of mystery resets before we finally got it down, but it worked! One tip I can offer if you attempt this with alts is to log into then immediately out of all of your alts right before the attempt. This way you do not have to run back into position from the beginning of the instance.
The alts & specs used to 2-man this were:
Me: Druid (Resto), Warrior (Prot)
Friend: Druid (Resto), Warlock (?), Hunter (Survival)
We started the fight with my friend's Resto druid tanking while I played my Prot warrior until she was impaled. Once impaled I taunted off my friend until his Druid was impaled then I killed the game client and logged my Resto druid (in the meantime my buddy 'tanked' with his Resto). Once my Resto was logged we waiting for him to get impaled, then I 'tanked' the rest of the fight using my Resto druid while my buddy logged the additional alts ending on his Hunter (his main). Once all were impaled my buddy made quick work of him with his hunter and bing, bang, boom achievement gained!

Just completed this achievement with five 85's (Mage, Lock, Druid, Priest, Pally). Very slow fight, got him to about half heath before he transformed the first time. Pally tanked, one at a time we punched him into impaling us. After that the people who had been impaled ran to the far back corner to avoid being re-impaled. He would not impale the tank so once everyone but the Pally was done the Druid took aggro and Pally punched a few times and was impaled, then we just finished him off. Easy but slow, the whole fight took about 8-10 mins.

This didn't take very long, surprisingly.
Group make up:
Arcane Mage x 2
Ench Shammy x1 (he healed)
Frost DK x1
MM Hunter x1 (Me)
We started the fight by sending in my pet (bear). I set him to do nothing but growl. The shaman and I healed my pet, and the mages used slow/counter spell to get on his "radar." I kept the pet on the boss until the DK was impaled, then he took over. All in all it only took us 7 minutes, but we were lucky, as he only double impaled one of the mages.
Random is random, though, so I can only assume it would take longer.

So...you can 2 man this achievement IF you have 2 separate accounts that total 5 80-85 alts.
For example, a friend and I did this with 2 accounts, one with 2 85s (Druid, Hunter) and one with 3 85s (Rogue, Warrior, Priest).
You must ensure that ALL alts are in the instance, near the boss AND they've been in the instance within the last 5 minutes or so. If not, you'll be locked out of the encounter as you may get ported to the entrance.
In our situation we went something like this:
Resto Druid / Prot Warrior (tanking) --- Druid takes impale, Warrior logs to alt (Rogue)
Resto Druid (tanking) / Combat Rogue -- Druid heals themselves and tanks boss, Rogue takes impale. Rogue logs to alt (Priest).
Resto Druid (tanking) / Holy Priest -- Druid still tanking/healing themselves, Priest takes impale. Druid logs to alt (Hunter)
Marksmen Hunter / Holy Priest -- Holy priest heals up whatever character is available and waits for hunter, no impales here. Priest logs back to main to tank boss so hunter can get impale.
Marksmen Hunter / Prot Warrior (tanking) -- Prot warrior tanks boss so hunter gets impale. Hunter logs back to Druid main to kill boss.
Resto Druid / Prot Warrior (tanking) -- Everyone now has impale. Kill boss, get achieve :)
One thing to watch for is that everyone stays well away from the entrance to the boss, as you can get knocked over. If that happens, two things can happen. a) you go out of combat and no longer count for achieve and b) boss may reset if it follows you out.

So, in case anyone is curious, you can NOT solo this as a hunter. I used BM spec with a turtle pet who tanked just fine. Impale never targeted the pet, only myself. I feigned death after every impale, but it did not count as a "unique" person.

Sweet, got it today with my 3 box.
1st account with 90 warrior
2nd account with 80 mage
3rd account with 80 shaman 80 shaman 80 hunter
Proxy aggro with warrior at one corner of the room.
When he turned into rhino, used mage to get aggro so warrior will get impaled.
After warrior got impaled, i use iceblock and invis to lose aggro and parked mage at the opposite corner of room.
When he turned rhino again, i pulled him near shaman, and got him impaled.
Shaman died, pulled him back to the corner of room, and used reincarnate on shaman to logout.
Log on hunter and ran him to the gates. Pulled him to the gates and when he turned rhino, i parked him so his body is half way outside the gate.
This is the key point, you must have him half way out so the other toon can hit him.
Once he hit him, he immediate got impaled.
Used FD on hunter and pulled him back to the corner. Hunter logged out.
Rinse repeat with the other shaman.
I can say that I was lucky to have shaman and hunter for this attempt because they can revive/lose aggro. I think you can do this dual boxing as well if you have 4 level 80+ mages/hunter/shaman or any class that can lose aggro.
Happy achieving!

We did this just now with 4. FAIL!
We got all of our toons impaled, 4/4 toons were impaled with 6 impales total.
One toon got impaled 3 times. When the last person got impaled, we killed him. Nothing! The comments here are completely useless on what you need to get the achievement, but at this time, I can't say how it's possible you can do it without a full party of 5.

Did this achiev with my wife today with 5 total toons, I used 2 and she used 3.
We brought them all into the instance one by one and added them to the party so we had 2 active members and 3 d/c ones. All you have to do is have one person hold aggro and allow the other to get impaled. Then one of us does
ctrl+alt+del and force closes wow
, relogs onto a diferent character and runs against the gate until you can either melee or be hit by the AOE. It takes some time, for us it was about 4 minutes of logging in/out, but it's still doable if you have a friend that can help.

I attacked first, he got impaled. change role, he "tanked" and i got impaled. While riding on his horn I shut down the game. I play windowed, so i pressed the red cross in the upper right side.
logged back in, took one of the remaining 3 chars, stuck to the gate, melee hit and got impaled. Logged out while on his horn. Rinse and repeat.
When all 5 chars had been impaled, we killed the boss. But no achievement.
Just as a FYI

Don't forget to take your legendary cloaks off! We went in as a group of dps and a healer, I ice lanced him and my cloak proc'd and killed him with its dot.

I would like to confirm that the "glitch" of character hopping to achieve the achievement is not removed. However, i did find that when one character is logged out too long with or without getting impaled, they are teleported to the front of the instance once you log back in. When i walked my character over against the wall to be impaled, the boss reset. I believe this is doable with 2 accounts.
My experience =
Got 2 friends including me, one was a hunter who was just there to help out
I used 2 characters
Another friend used 2 characters.
Started using toons that didnt need achieve, got impaled, switched. (for me and friend that had 2 characters) (Druid and priest)
The rest of the characters got impaled (Shaman, Monk, Hunter)
Burned boss, Achievement unlocked.

Just "solo'd" this with 2 accounts. unholy dk on account #1 pet tanked most of the encounter. cycled through 4 other toons on account #2 by closing wow (alt-f4) and logging back in following some of the tips i found in previous comments like standing by wall to get in combat from aoe boss damamge.
I just left the dk alone my first try and he was getting knocked into the wall area a lot and somehow reset the boss. 2nd try i tried to keep him and his pet towards the middle of the room while other accounts were loading and it didn't happen so that's something to be aware of so you don't have to keep restarting.

Now that Premade Groups have been added in, this is much easier to do.
Just finished it a minute ago with 4 total strangers, thanks to cooperation and all of the strategies you awesome folks have been posting since Wrath. At this point, it seems the biggest thing is to have a plan and a party leader who can give orders clearly.
The instructions for my group that got us through (with two classes that could taunt):
Clear the dungeon up to the center platform
No weapons or cloaks, degear to ~350
No pets/demons/armies out
One tank TAUNT ONLY until the other tank gets Impale, then they switch
Wait until everyone gets Impale (I put raid markers on them as we went)
Kill the bastard.
I'm sure the "pet-tanking" strategies work fine, but we were having trouble getting them to taunt often enough without wanting to auto-attack, so it was easier just to have 2 tanks. And remember, lock outs are character only, and most people have multiple 90s, so if you mess up once just ask your group if they want to try again on different toons and relist.
Good luck to everyone still working on this.

We did this with 2 accounts. Our strat was as follows.
1.
Clear the dungeon up to the last boss, place all characters required inside dungeon
2.
Put 2 characters (separate accounts) inside the gate that rises when you pull the boss, then run up the next two and do the same.
3.
Kill the Wow client via task manager, quickly log in on 2 different characters, pull boss
4.
First one to be impaled logs out and logs onto their next character (a healer). This person will be responsible for tanking the boss and keeping people up. Fairly easy to do at 90+
5.
Once the other first character is impaled, overheal them with the healer and pull aggro
6.
Second person logs onto next character, runs up to the gate and stands in the corner
7.
Healer pulls boss over to the gate
8.
The beast the boss turns into has an aoe, this will hit someone in the corner outside the gate putting them on the aggro table. As soon as the person gets hit, the healer who is tanking should move the beast away from the gate to prevent it from bugging out and resetting.
9.
Wait until beast impales the character outside, usually they get dropped inside the boss area
10.
Rinse and repeat steps 6-9 until you get 5 unique impales
11.
Kill boss, achieve get
Key thing to remember here is that the boss will aggro you outside the gate if you get hit by his aoe and impale you which counts for the achieve.
We didn't need to do the initial swapping at the start in hindsight and could have just run all the other characters up to the gate besides the healer.
Also, impale usually goes for someone under the highest amount of aggro (ie other then the tank) about 90% of the time.

Works with two accounts. Bring a taunt on each account to make it easier (he will only impale the one who does NOT have aggro). The instructions others have written still work except when you switch characters after a force-quit, the character will be at the entrance, not outside the boss area if that is where you left them.

Just completed this with my friend in 6.0.3 using the alternate toon method. We took turns logging off and getting on alternate characters and flew them into the instance. We ran into a problem where one of our characters would magically be at the entrance of the dungeon as opposed to the boss's area after we had pulled, he was inside on his death knight and i was on my resto druid. I started healing him OUTSIDE the fence that the boss erects and managed to get impaled, thus completing the achievement.
The method works if you cant get together 5 people to help.

Hi, I just “soloed” it (1 char on one account and 4 chars on the other account) and would like to share my experience, to clarify some things said in other posts.
As of today, (2015.01.31) logging out the char that has aggro, when the other char is outside of Gal'darah's fence, will reset the encounter because Gal'darah would charge outside of his area. This happened every time I tried.
So, one tank should stay inside of the encounter area all the time.
Put all characters to the Moorabi (east) entrance, so that they can jump in the water at Moorabi's altar and I think this is the quickest way to get to Gal'darah.
Enter with two characters, clear instance (don't forget the fish under Moorabi's altar), pull boss with non-tank, wait for the tank to be impaled, taunt, wait for the other character to be impaled. Force-quit the non-tank account, reopen wow, and login with the next character.
The 2nd, 3rd and 4th characters on the non-tank account will run quickly to the fence that's closing the Gal'darah's area. Inside, the tank will move the boss near the fence as well and wait... until the other character is impaled (you will see a warning in the chat).
Done with prot warrior 90 as tank (using Shield Wall and Shield Barrier on every cd) on one account, and holy priest 91, dk blood 80, rogue subtlety 96, frost mage 100 on the other account.
Be careful not to hit the boss ever until the 5th character has been impaled.

Completed tonight through Custom Premade group finder. It took awhile for the group to form since so many realm hoppers were getting invited then dropping group immediately.
That said, we had
lvl 90 rogue (me)
lvl 100 paladin
2 lvl 100 priests (one a Scarab Lord, to boot)
lvl 100 hunter
Method: I stripped down to ilvl 325 or so, no weapons. No pets, no legendary cloaks on the rest of the team.
I got aggro, started beating him with my fists. Got him down to 29%, he transforms and the waiting begins. The rest of the party got on the threat table by either standing in stampede, or standing in his whirlwind. He'll phase back and forth between troll and rhino form, just be patient.
He impaled three of the five simultaneously (at least it appeared so, three bodies on his horn). The whole fight was a little odd. The goal was to have impale be random until either the paladin or one of the priests got hit, then have the paladin taunt or have the priest heal to get aggro. Both priests were impaled the entire fight. Even after he morphed back, they were never released. The paladin taunted, I got impaled and later released. But the paladin couldn't drop aggro. She bubbled, which sent the boss after me, but only temporarily since her threat was still highest. I threw one shuriken which dropped him to 19%, and that was enough to pull him back to me. We waited and the paladin was finally impaled.
When the fight was over, we all got credit, though didn't see each other's credit in chat, and I couldn't see any of the other players in the dungeon, despite us all still being there. Loot was normal.

We did this yesterday with the following group: 2 x BM Hunter (without pets), Prot Paladin, Rogue, and Mage. One BM Hunter was on one account and the rest were on another account so it involved a lot of quitting the game and running back in with the next guy.
Sent one BM Hunter in with the Prot Paladin. Hunter pulled and Pally got impaled. Quit and ran in with each of the others (other hunter, rogue, and mage) and ran them up to the barrier and stood there until they got impaled. Then relogged with Paladin and ran up to the barrier and taunted
Gal'darah
. The first time we did this the Paladin successfully taunted
Gal'darah
from outside the barrier but was the thrown down the stairs by a charge attack and the fight reset. The second time we did all of this the Pally actually relogged inside the barrier and was easily able to gain aggro and get the original hunter impaled. If the Pally had relogged at the entrance like he usually does, the plan would have been to get down to the barrier and get impaled as that usually brings you inside the barrier... either that or just aggro from outside and try not to get charged off the stairs.

Confirming that you can still do this in a group of two. One toon needs to stay in the whole time, preferably something with a taunt (I used a deathknight) so you can draw aggro without attacking. My friend and I ran in with monk healer and my DK, he ran over Gal to start the encounter and we just waited until he impaled me. after i was impaled i taunted him off my friend and waited until he was impaled. he tabbed out and closed he closed his client, switched to another toon and i invited him. when Gal does his spin move bring him close to the wall so he will hit your friend and put him in combat. just stay close to the wall and when he transforms again he will impale your friend. rinse and repeat until you have enough then nuke him down. easy.

Completed with 1 other player today
Player 1: Pally, Mage, Druid
Player 2: Lock and Priest
All in group
All Char to Gundrak before
Started with pally and priest, with pally taking aggro, waited until priest got impaled. Priest shuts down WoW and reopens onto lock. waited until lock got impaled and pally shuts down, restarts on mage and then druid.
When pally with initial threat shuts wow down, threat jumped to lock.

It seems in 6.2.2 that this can no longer be completed with just two accounts (solo-ing with two account joined on the same Battle.net account - although surely two separate Battle.net account would still not work).
Attempted three times over the last three days unsuccessfully, with various groups of characters between my two accounts.
I have tried both swapping out all characters over the course of the fight, and also keeping a single tank from one account in the fight the whole time and 4 characters cycling through on the other account.

This IS still possible to do with two separate Battlenet accounts, I have just done it myself.
I had a problem on the first attempt. My 'tank' character got knocked back through the gate when a character on my second account got impaled. This reset the encounter.
Second try was easy peasy. I set the secondary account characters on autorun so they continually ran into the gate. I positioned my 'tank' character so that she was sideways to the gate and being thrown upwards did not send me over the gate again.
After the impale on each character, I immediately shut down the second copy of the client and relogged onto the next character.
Two important things to note:
1. You must see the announcement in your chat panel that so-and-so has been impaled. No announcement, no tick in the checkbox for the achievement.
2. The achievement will not flash until you've killed Gal'darah so don't automatically assume you've failed if you see no flash after the 5th character has been impaled.

Still doable as of 7.1.
Just did it 2 players, with total 2+3 characters.
1. move all your characters to boss room, or they will get stuck behind the wall.
2. before you start, log in to all of your characters quickly to refresh them, if you are out of combat for too long, you will get kicked to the entrance.
3. log back to your first character
4. start the fight.
5. wait for impale. switch to your alt, get into combat, and repeat this for all your alts, then move back to your main. all 5 characters will be online for whole fight. once you get them into combat, they never went disconnected for us. we tested this 15+ min, they just never go offline in combat. all you need to do is relog quickly once combat is started.
6. simply watch who gets impaled, finally have other tank taunt off of current tank, so current tank can also get impaled.
7. kill the boss

You can complete this achievement with the Timewalking-Wotlk Dungeons event.
Just got 4 guildies together went for the 5 dungeons for the weekly and just asked them if they could help me for the achievement in gundrak.
We two healed it and I taunted the boss in the Rhino phase so our tank would get impaled aswell.

imposible to solo alone even when multiboxing with 110 toons because they end up behind the barrier and you cant use any skill becuase of line of sight and every auto attack will one shot the boss so you wont get on the aggro table
not to mention that even when i stand at the barrier oposite to my tanking toon i wont get damaged by stomp no matter where i stay and if i auto atack the boss and DONT kill him he just goes over the barrier to me and resets
epic 10/10 quality game design where if you dont have activ friends or arent a streamer you are *!@#ed

I two-manned this achievement today, after spending some time working out the best strategy for us. We used the method that is mentioned in other posts on how to do this with two people.
We used my husbands paladin as the group leader and used 4 of my characters to fill up the group (I don't know if it is necessary to have one fixed character that stays logged in or not, this was just easiest to manage for us). All the characters used were high level, ranging 105 tot 110, so they took no damage but they could one shot the boss if we weren't careful. The best part was that I didn't have to awkwardly hang out on the outside of the gate trying to get on his threat list because that did not seem to work very well for me. After some trial and error, this method worked best for us:
1) We made a group composed of my husbands paladin and 4 of my characters and brought them all inside the dungeon.
2) We quickly cleared the dungeon up to the final boss, which we did not engage just yet.
3) Making sure I was
standing inside the fighting area, I used Alt+F4 to close the window
. Logging out the normal way will not work as that will bring you back to the beginning of the dungeon when you log back in, locking you out of the fighting area.
4) I logged into the next character, ran her to the fighting area and used Alt+F4 again to log her out there. I did this for all the remaining characters.
5) With one of my characters, I ran to the boss to engage him. I made sure to not do any damage as this might have one-shotted him. Just standing on top of him will do the trick. After I got aggro, my husbands paladin also stood on top of him until he took some damage from stomp and appeared on the threat list.
6) The paladin got the first impale since he was second on the threat list. After he got impaled, he taunted the boss of my character, so I got the second impale.
7) After that, I used Alt+F4 again to log out, while my husbands paladin just stood around with the boss trying to hit him.
8) Then it was just a matter of repeating with all the other characters. I logged them one by one, they were all still inside the fighting area, I made them stand on the boss until they took some damage and got impaled, then Alt+F4 to log the next one.
9) After they all got impaled, we killed the boss and the achievement popped (you need to kill the boss to make it pop, so be sure that you keep track of which character has been impaled to avoid killing him too soon).
Once I got this figured out, it was pretty easy to 2-man and I finally got this achievement that has been a thorn in my eye since forever!

Just wanted to confirm. Still possible with just two WoW accounts. Logged in on 4 different characters on my main account while had my girlfriend puppeteering my second accounts character in the fight. Just have all of your 4 characters standing in the last boss area before triggering the fight. Once the fight begins, run in (until you are in combat) alt + f4 and log in all 3 other characters. (They'll stay logged in until the fight is over). After all 5 members are impaled kill boss and you are done!

This is possible to solo but it is just tedious and (probably) takes longer than trying to make a group. For those interested:
Clear instance to last boss
Make group on that character
Log into other characters and sign up for group
Login to group leader and accept + go back to character to get into the group and then go to last boss (not in combat)
Repeat until with 5 characters in dungeon
Aggro boss with one character and log into all other characters, get them in combat and wait for them to get impaled
Taunt boss off of first character and then wait for him to get impaled
Once you're sure everyone got impaled atleast once, you can kill the boss and everyone will get the achievement right after!

Just got this one today during a Timewalking event. Just asked the other 4 to do it, took a few minutes. And taunt off of tank after everyone else has been impaled. Boss wouldn't impale person with aggro.

This is soloable. I used a variation of the Blood Infusion solo strategy by ragnhildazralon.
Basically with 4 alts instead of 2.
To sum it up:
-Bring your 4 alts to right outside the entrance to Gundrak. Log them out there.
-Clear all heroic bosses to drop the statues and clear up to the boss.
-Create a premade group, name it whatever you'd like. Log out from the instance.
-Log onto first alt, apply to join the premade group you created. Alt+F4 out.
-Log back onto main, approve the invite to the first alt. Alt+F4 out.
-Log back onto first alt, you're in the group. Zone in, run to Gal'darah area. Alt+F4 out.
-Repeat process with each of the remaining alts until all 4 are in the group with your main, and in the right area.
-Pull on main character. Doesn't have to do damage, just pull aggro. Alt+F4 out.
-Log on to first alt. Run up to Gal'darah and take a "hit" (miss, dodge, whatever, just get in combat). Alt+F4 out.
-Repeat with other 3 alts until they are all in combat. Alt+F4 out and log back into your main.
-At this point, all 5 characters will be "present" in that even though the other 4 are logged out, they will still be actually there and targets for impale.
There's some debate as to how to ensure you're targetted for impalement. Honestly, I just AFK'd and ate some pizza while noting who got impaled, and once the 5th character was impaled, I killed Gal'darah. End result, achievement for all 5 characters. Total time in combat: ~7 minutes. I'm sure it could be done quicker with one of the methods other people listed, but I wasn't in any hurry.
tl;dr soloable by single account with 5 different characters.
