You could put up a stoneclawtotem to distract them from destroying it. It doesnt allways work, but rather often.

It mabye cost more mana then, but i think its better than magma anyway if it succes, cus they often destroy magma rather fast too.

You need to experiment this totem with Stoneclaw and earthbind. Some mobs will ignore the stoneclaw, so earthbind is the only way to slow them down before it fire.

Recommendation : put stonelaw and firenova off the edge of the mobs. Avoid putting in the middle, because they can hit it easily. It give stoneclaw a chance to draw aggro before turning to firenova

This totem is a usefull tool if u are fighting rogue's..

If they are stealthing just use the totem so close that u hit em.

Then they either get hit or they destroy the totem then they cant come close enough to slow u down whit gouge/sap/crippling poison and so on.
Then u frostshock spam, and use earthbind totem.

totally pwn.
(May depend on spec, im elemental)

Is this affected by Elemental Mastery? If you activate EM, does the totem crit on everything?

no it does not. good strategy against rouge btw tried it before thinking same thing but rouge is always out of range X-(

ok... tired of having everyone say it gets knocked out right away. if you're having your fire nova totem get knocked out by the first mob to go near it, change your strategy! generally speaking, i find starting up with a chainlightning greatly reduces the chances of this totem getting knocked out. Also, many people are against putting two points into improved fire totem talent, but if you are pvp build and like AV, it's well worth it. Start with a long chain lightning, run into a group, drop this bad boy, drop an earthbind totem, nature's swiftness, run away and chain lightning again! super duper damage, lots of hk to follow. (oh yeah, defiler's talisman works wonders with that strategy). don't forget you have a nice lil grounding totem too! fun fun.
