Just a tip for fighting the swarm of mobs before him.
Its alot easier if you have a shaman or a mage, because they get ALOT of AoE attacks.
If you have a shaman in your group, have them set a stone-claw
or a stoneskin. Stoneclaw if you have one tank, stoneskin if you have multiple tanks. If you have a mage, let them spam arcane explosion to their hearts content.
Polymorph, and frost nova help out when they REALLY swarm.
Also, shamans, set a fire nova totem shortly after the stoneclaw totem... the stoneclaw will keep the mobs off of it for a few sec and it should also keep them off your allies for a sec.
Also remember... these are tips for the fights leading up to Mutanus, not for mutanus himself.

Mutanus the Devourer is spawned by an event. To start this event you must first kill all 4 Fanglords then go back to the start of Wailing Caverns and speak with Disciple of Naralex. You will have to successful escort Disciple of Naralex to a chamber where a series of events happen described in the above post.

He is very easy if you have a healer and a tank.

I tank wc alll the time and he is about the easiest boss in there i start by going into the water so he doesnt come anywhere close to attack a healer and when i see him i charge and just sit there he doesnt really do anything special besides when he first shows up and knock everyone off there feet. then he just sits there hitting you no big deal and his drops are very good for a lvl 22 elite.

not hard ot find, i ticked off my party members casue i accidently activated the disciple when they ween't ready. we killed this guy with three people, wasn't hard. i got the black fathom ring, and love it.

Every time I have seen Mutanus die, he has dropped the ring (which is 5 of 5 times!)

As for this guys difficulty... if you have a full group and even a healing shaman you shouldnt die. Especially if your party got there succesfully (which might be saying a lot considering the poeple you meet at that level)

I don't see how anyone can accuse a priest of "stealing" the ring drop. The primary stat on the ring is spirit, which is mainly a priest stat. Not that it matters much at that level, but if anyone has the right to call others ninjas it would be the priest.

I think you have no idea what you're talking about. The blue ring has stamina, spirit, and intellect. It is a good blue item for any class that uses mana. It kind of covers all of the bases as far as good stats--warlocks=stam/int, mages=int, priests=int/spi, although it can also be used by druids and shamen (and yes, even hunters).

The fact that this is bind on pickup and you're whining about the priest having a main tells me you're pretty clueless. Before you mouth off next time, you might want to study up a bit more.

lol man u took it a little to far.. he didnt even provide enough information for you to rely off of.. so why go yellin at people when you dont even know if he's really right?

anyways for the warriors that have given up on trying to get this stupid chestpiece..which i have not gotten yet after 95000 runs.. there is a CRAFTED chest piece that is slighly better.. its called a shining silver chestpiece.. it has 214 armor.. 14 str and 6 stam.. its a wee bit better but not by much.. if this chestpiece that drops off the murloc dosent drop within the next few runs im gonna screw it and have someone craft the chestplate for me.,

I killed him once and he droped the chest piece...i was being ru n through and my runner got mad b/c he couldnt get on his warrior haha ;ucky me....i rather have the ring tho the stats cover everything for any mana users except hunters need agility as well and shammy/pallys need str as well...

Overall i would say this ring is best for a druid or warlock b/c all three stats r what they need and unlike other mana users they wont find another ring that covers all of the attributes they need nearly as ezily

I ( ) Priest, Druid (Tank) and Warlock nerfed this guy.. After we gotten 2 disconnects and we didnt find any reason to continue (though we did) :) , and first we got the last druid of the fang, had to use my soulstone there , and we also got the giant..

Out of 1 kill of this guy, we got :

Mutant Scale Breastplate x1
Glowing Shard x3

Good luck killing this guy, but if you fail with this at lvl 20 5 man, when we killed it 3 man with bear tank, you really need to improve your equipment and way of playing

He is not so hard to beat. i�ve done him with 2 man :P a druid and then me (lvl 26 shaman)he hits for like 50 to me, only hard part is when he makes other people evil and makes them asleep. makes it impossible to remove but with 2 man you need to be pro,

Poor Naralex, getting haunted by a gaint murloc in his Emerald Dream. That's like the nightmare of all nightmares! :(
Sadly, it seems to be contageous. Out of the 20+ runs i've done into WC, i've only actually fought the guy 3 times. First major problem is you mostly do these kind of instances with a pickup group, which usually dissolves before or after the first boss, or if someone accidentally pulls a big group of mobs and the others go: 'This group sucks, i'm outta here.'
And out of the 3 times i've fought him, i've seen the shoulders drop twice and the mail chestpiece once. No ring whatsoever, my warlock's getting pissed of this damn instance. Plus i bet that, if i finally get the ring to drop, all other guys roll too and i'll lose to a ninja warrior.

So, best tip if you want to get something off this guy: Get yourself a guild-only run and talk about what loot everybody wants early on. If you still get ninja'd then, you're in the wrong guild.

I ran the instance as a lvl 24 warlock, and for various reasons, it took me several tries to do it (not the least of which was my level). Nonetheless, I got all four Fanglord gems, and talked to the Disciple. No new quest. Hmmmm.

Now, I read here that you have to be level 25 to get the quest. Either that, or you have to do the instance in one shot. Any thoughts?

I'd read about the bonus quest in WC after killing all the Fanglords somewhere on this site, and the author said that the quest had to be completed in one go. Myself (26 Tauren Druid) and a 27 Tauren druid completed all four Fanglords, and then started the escort quest. We survived into the sleeper's room, and then wiped when the Nightmare Ectoplasms spawned and warped onto us en masse (Azjol-Nerub is run on a crappy server machine, btw). We both ran back from the GY, and killed the remaining four Ectoplasms (there were 5 total). After that, Mutanus spawned and dropped the Deep Fathom Ring. The Disciple of Naralex was nowhere to be found, but Naralex did awaken after we killed Mutanus.

BTW, if you get put into sleep by Mutanus, it's called Nightmare of Naralex, and you see a lot of Deviates running in and out of the room. They aren't adds, they're just graphical goodies. Scared me pretty good, though =p.

Alliance can do this guy, just kill the lords (and lady) and talk to the tauren at the beginning of the instance.

killed him last night and he dropped a Gem (cant remember name) that was unique and started a quest. We were all able to loot it. dont see it in his loot table on here though (then again i just woke up lol)

Edit: Nevermind i see it after looking the 10th time. Glowing Shard.

to get to this guy, you must kill the 4 fanglords, then speak to the door npc(aka buff bot) to begin. if he survives, you will encounter this boss at the end. for the best, pre clear all the mobs to the boss's room, to make the escort easier. you only get one try, so its worth clearing first. if the escort fails, you have to reset instance, rekill fanglords, to get another npc spawn.

There is no level restriction, you just have to be 10(must be to enter) and kill the lords.

spawn as the last mob before Naralex is woken. large amount of hps but doesn't hit nowhere as hard as Verdan

Is classic bugged? I escorted the guy here and killed a couple waves of slimes and he's sat there for like 10 minutes doing nothing.

Edit: figured it out. Very slowly attacked the adds when he was summoning, about the speed a group would, quest is bugged if you kill the adds too fast.

How to Acquire Hunter Rune of Kill Command & Wyvern Taming Wand

1. Speak with Jixo Madrocket in Stonetalon Mountains. He hangs out next to the Goblin house near the South-Western entrance to Windshear Crag.
2. Pick up quest Wild Wyvern Wrangling.
3. Get 3 items:
a) Hypnotic Crystal - drops off of Mutanus the Devourer (white murloc boss at end of Wailing Caverns dungeon)
b) Purchase a Greater Magic Wand from the Auction House.
c) Wild Magic Essence drops off of Thistlefur Shaman & Totemic or Foulweald Shaman & Totemic (furlbogs) in Ashenvale.
4. Combine Wild Magic Essence & Greater Magic Wand to create Gnarled Wand of Wild Magic
5. Turn in Gnarled Wand of Wild Magic and Hypnotic Crystal to Jixo Madrocket. (make sure he is standing next to the house when you turn it in, or he can glitch out and you may lose the items)
6. Pick up new quest Wrangling a Wild Wyvern
7. Watch Jixo wander off a short distance to tame a wyvern.
8. Turn in quest and acquire Rune of Kill Command & Wyvern Taming Wand.
9. Tame a Young Pridewing wyvern in the nearby area.
10. Enjoy life.
