This guy isn't hard, but he has a few cool tricks. He likes to summon a floating fireball at various points that will simultaneously hit all party members a bunch of times for about 251-271 damage. Then at certain points of his health he will phase out and come back rendering a party member stunned, doing a decent amount of damage over time for a few seconds. In this state he is still attackable. He'll summon the fireball a few times during the fight as well as phasing out.

To engage him, you need to clear the 2 platforms above you and activate the Nerubian objects.

After initiating combat, he will summon a Flame Sphere that floats in a straight line and hits everyone near it for miniscule damage. Often after he casts that he will go "invisible" and walk to a member of your party. If you have AoE when he dissipates, having them hit where he was when he poofs will make him visible, and subsequently allow you to damage him (Personally I used it as the time to refresh thunderclap.) When he reaches a party member he will stun them and do 1500 every 2 seconds (Embrace of the Vampyr) while healing himself with it. Embrace breaks after he takes 10k damage. Basically you just rinse and repeat between the vanishes and flame spheres. Doesn't hit the tank too hard, but hard enough to make your healer pay attention.

I do hope they increase the damage on the Flame Sphere and make Vanish not break on damage.

STRATEGY

Part 1: Clearing the Way
Initially Prince Taldaram will be engulfed in a shield of blue light, and unattackable. In order for the group to render him vulnerable, you need to clear the two platforms opposite of his platform - two web bridges lead to them, and there are two Frostbringers and two Eyes of Taldaram on each of the platforms, alongside with a Nerubian object that causes the magical field to "diminish" (first object), and then "disappear" (second object). Activating those two is instant cast action, so you can do it while battling the Frostbringers and Eyes.

Part 2: Prince Taldaram
When both objects are activated, and the magical shield - brought down, Prince Taldaram will become attackable, but won't engage the group, unless approached, so you have time to eat, drink, buff up, prepare, and go over strategies.
During the fight, Prince Taldaram will do several things.

He will cast randomly Conjure Flame Sphere, which spawns a Flame Sphere above his head; the Sphere moves around much like Kael'thas's orbs during the anti-gravity phases, and damages nearby party members for ~300-600 every few seconds. Damage is partially resistable from what I've seen.
Vanish will also occur randomly, and is pretty much self-explanatory - Prince Taldaran will vanish and start walking towards a random party member. When he gets to his victim, he will cast Embrace of the Vampyr, which drains 1500 HP every 2 seconds, while healing him for the same amount. The spell stops after 20 seconds of casting (15 000 damage total), or when he takes 20 000 damage - so it works like a shield.
Note: DoTs and AoE spells will still affect Teldaram during his Vanish phase, and will prematurely break his Vanish, giving the group an extra few seconds to damage him, and reduce the amount of HP drained.
Bloodthirst is Taldaram's prime damaging ability, which he uses throughout the fight, much like a warrior would use Heroic Strike/Slam.

Avoid the Flame Spheres whenever possible, but don't make it your main goal in the fight - they don't hit too hard. Fire Resistance Aura or Fire Resistance Totem may help towards this. The group should keep Taldaram DoTed up, so Embrace of the Vampyr doesn't surprise the group. Completely doable boss.

EDIT: Part 3: Heroic Prince Teldaram
On Heroic, Prince Teldaran doesn't have any new abilities. Instead, his old ones gain a buff:

Conjure Flame Sphere now conjures 3 spheres, that move in an expanding triangle away from him. The Spheres do significantly more damage (600 fire per tick I believe), and hit very fast. The best way to mitigate the damage from them is to tank the boss near the stairs where you came from. Melee should stack behind him or on the side, and ranged should be at maximum range behind him (in the other corner of the room). The moment you see him conjuring the Spheres, run to where your casters are - the spheres' rays can be outranged, and your group won't take more than 2-3 ticks per person if you do it well.
Vanish remains the same.Embrace of the Vampyr now ticks for more (~1200-1500 I think on my tankadin, I don't know if it's mitigated by armor), and reduces all healing done to the target by 100%! So you can't just heal your target and wait for the spell to fade away - you need to DPS him enough to make him stop. Divine Shield and Ice Block work, Hand of Protection does not.
Bloodthirst remains the same.

Playing as a mage, during the fight if you get embraced you can ice block to stop the effect and proceed as normal. I assume this is the same for the paladin self immune bubble, although I doubt that hand of protection will work, but I haven't been able to try.

So if you can stop the embrace it makes the fight even more trivial then it already is.

Heroic

The embrace effect prevents all healing. Everyone must burn the boss to remove it. Mages can ice block out, paladins can bubble. Before the embrace (after the vanish), have the group stack up so the melee and tank can immediately DPS the boss.

The flame orbs are more destructive. The boss spawns three of them in a triangle. The group can outrange these. Have ranged and heals sit at max range. Melee and the tank run out when he starts casting.

Overall a much harder fight than on normal. The DPS requirement on the embrace is significant without epic gear. Simpler strategies may work for groups that can brute force heal through the orb damage.

I would say he counts as the second boss in the instance, comes after Elder Nakox. At least he seemed that way after my party there last night.

On heroic a nice strat is to have everyone clump together on the tank in a corner and when he starts casting everyone run to the diagonally opposite side of the platform and you should take zero damage from the balls.

On top of which having everyone clumped in the corner means if you get balls straight after vanish then your set to just run to opposites again.

My group had a much easier time on heroic when we pulled him all the way down the stairs and into the huge area below.

Fire resistance totem or aura, from shaman or paladin respectively, is also a great help here as the most dangerous element in the whole fight is the fire orbs. Because if everyone is beat up from fire orbs the chances that someone will already be at low health when he does his embrace of the vampyr on them is high. People with full health allow for more breathing room when your DPS is trying to get him off of them.

This is not a e-tard friendly fight.

I did this boss yesterday at the first time(as disc healer), without problems, with a group of people I know.

PuG'd him today, and we just stopped here. His fire-orbs hit for way too much when people had no idea how to effectively run out of it(I ended up getting damage from them aswell, since the tank ran out of healing range, so I had to chase him through the balls)

If you have a melee-heavy group(2 or more melee DPS) you'll find this to be a hard encounter, if not impossible. Make sure you explain everyone how to position(e.g. don't run out of range of the healer), since the combo Fire balls --> Vanish/vampiric is lethal.

Clear the two giant mobs at the platform below his, and then clear the two platforms opposite of his platform. Activate the two orbs, and the fight is staged. Head over to his platform to initiate the fight.

This guy can be a tough cookie because he uses both melee and magic, and has an annoying habit of vanishing when you're about to go in for big hits.

Watch out for his Embrace spell- this can cause a hideous amount of damage. If you are being embraced, tell your teammates to go all out DPS on him in order to make him stop.

The final annoying ability he has is his fireball summon. It is an invurnerable NPC that follows your characters and sends out bolts of flame at them. A mages Fire Ward works great for this fight. Also, if your group is having trouble, some of the mobs may drop fire resistance items that could help a bit.

So overall, be on your toes for the Embrace, and use any fire resistance/magic resistance buffs you can. Kill him fast and the fireball won't wipe your team.

For some strange reason, Prince Taldaram once spoke in Demonic when my group engaged him. Unfortnately, I've been unable to replicate this since.

An important note is that the raised circle on his platform can break line-of-sight. For this reason, work out a strategy beforehand where all your group will be in line-of-sight of the healer when the flame spheres are out. Clumping up together is generally a good idea, as he doesn't have any cleaves or AoE damage (other than the flame spheres).

We've had success DPSing him inside the circle, then when he summons the flame spheres everyone runs out of the circle toward the stairs, together.

It has been confirmed that Prince Taldaram, Prince Keleseth, and Prince Valanar will be returning as bosses in Icecrown Citadel in patch 3.3. Borean Tundra, Ahn'kaht, and Utgarde Keep were merely setbacks!

It's worth noting that if you're boosting Old Kingdom, standing out of his range does no good. My husband boosted me on his 80 DK (Normal mode, obviously), and I stood on the platform just 10 yards past Nadox's room, towards the boss - realllllly far away.

He vamped me anyway.

He spawned up way away on top of me, sucked me dry, and when I died, he flame orbed, pointed at my husband, shuffled around a bit, failed to path, reset his health and then his location.

If you're being boosted here, you're better off standing down the stairs and running from orbs - he's going to vamp you anyway, and he may as well be close enough that your rusher can get to him.

A interesting surprise happened last night in OK. One of our 5 was AFK and said to leave him behind. We figured we would leave him so he can catch up and at least get some emblems (all guildies) and it turns out people even on the other side of the instance will still be targeted for the embrace. He teleported all the way to where the first boss is and killed the afk player (bringing himself back up to full).

Didn't see that one coming.

According to the patch notes, Killing prince Taldaram with less than 5 is no longer required after 3.3 to complete Glory of the hero:

Since I don't see it posted anywhere here, Taldaram now has officially one setback, since he was raised by the Lich King as an undead to serve as one of three bodyguards for the Blood Queen Lanathel, the San'layn leader. He serves as an encounter with the other two, Prince Keleseth from Utgarde Keep, and Prince Valanar of Naxxanar fame, called the Blood Prince Council.

I was just solo'ing this place for greens/blues to DE - just figured I'd post here that he will still do the whole 'vanish/embrace' thing even when you're on your own (sometimes, abilities like MCs and ones that completely disable you don't happen unless there are other friendly targets with you. Though I've been MC'd and attacking my own totems before, so~ Either way. ). Ele Shaman here, so I just rolled with my Searing Totem/Flame Shock, which did enough damage to break the Embrace; I believe it fades after 20 seconds, regardless of if you damage him, and from an 85 POV doesn't do much damage, so even without a way to damage through it, you'd likely be fine.

Oh and I will apparently be alone in the end. Thanks for that, Mysterious Voice :(

Soloed him on a 75 pally, this was pretty hard for me, I Ran through him right after the flame orb procced, didnt hit me after a few yards, The embrace of the vampyr, I used word of glory at full health just before he vanished (for the absorb) and then Divine protection, overall not a hard fight if no flame orb is up. He was also hitting me for 1.9k and 2.2k bloodthirsts

In attempts to solo this guy on heroic at 85 with an Arms (solo spec) Warrior with heroic dungeon gear... It can't be done, attempted with Prot (solo spec) as well and even more so cannot be done. It's not his Embrace of the Vampyr that kills you, but when he casts Conjure Flame Sphere, it does about 25-30k damage. By the second Flame Sphere you are generally at near death. Used all CDs... Including Bladestorm which is BROKEN MASSIVELY in this fight... You CAN BE STOPPED by this guy while Bladestorming. Although a lot of other boss mechanics can be avoided via a Bladestorm, the Embrace of the Vampyr STOPS a Bladestorm. This fight is atrocious.

Had a hard time soloing that guy on my 85 fury warrior. Key is to use enraged regen after the second embrace of the vampyr, and make sure you don't attack him, or you'll proc a 3rd one and you can't receive any heal during it so. Also you should heroic leap away from the orb ( try and losing with the ramp).

Warriors beware. Mechanic of Embrace of the Vampyr seems that it targets the closest player from the Prince. When you use Charge or Intercept when he stealths out to use the spell he will not grab the player he intended to grab, but he will grab you instead.

edit: just want to add after all this years. this counts for all the other class, not just warriors. the Prince will grab the player closest to him after he re-appears whether that player was his intended target or not. so if you want to dps more while fighting this boss, stay away from him after he re-appears.

I just killed this guy pretty easily on 11/6/2011. I died first attempt because I just zerged him, since he just wore me down with his Embrace of the Vampyr and the flame orbs did a lot more DMG than expected. Just keeping Recuperate up, I made sure not to push him into his next EotV too quickly, giving me time to heal up.

The flame orb DMG is extremely easy to avoid. As he's casting the, JUST RUN AWAY. They don't follow you, they exit him in a triangular position. Very very easy mechanic.

So warriors have trouble facing this guy? As a prot Pally (lvl 85, 162k HP, ilvl 371), I can't say the same...

Did him on heroic, after reading up on Wowhead. His Flame Orbs hit the hardest, but with Resistance Aura on you can easily take it. His Vanish is dispelled by AoE like consecrate, and you can get a few hits in before his Vampiric Embrace. That one hits surprisingly soft, I lost about 6-7k health each time he used it. All in all, he is quite the pussy, surpassed only by the main man himself: Herald Volazj.

I can confirm this can be soloed as protection warrior, ilvl380, using Gift of the Naaru for healing. Be sure to be in Battle Stance and use Execute to get him down quickly after the second Embrace of the Vampire.

There are two platforms just across from him accessible be spider-web bridges. They have four mobs each and has an orb that must be activated on each to lower is shield and gain access to him.

In order to unlock the fight, players must activate the two Ancient Nerubian Devices located on separate platforms.

Taldaram will occasionally spawn Flame Orbs that deal Fire AoE damage, simply heal through this.

During the fight, Taldaram will vanish and cast Embrace of the Vampyr on a random party member, inflicting damage to him until Taldaram sustains enough damage.
