I would also really love to know if that talent will trigger the cooldown of the mage's regular frost nova or not. May somebody in a beta server help us?

Will purges proc this effect? it doesnt really specify what is meant by "destroyed"

The main question which came to me was: "What means being Destroyed?".
If someone dispels it, will that count as 'Destroyed'?. And what about dispelling by directly right clicking on it?. Will that triggers it too?.

And, to finish... what about using only 1st grade of Ice Barrier, just to get it destroyed and then freezing everyone in 10y around you?.

I cant wait to respec my frost mage >_<.

I hope someone who already played frost mage on the Open Beta answer some questions about this talent. Or we will have to wait until Blizz restart their servers and test it by ourselves =).

Shattered Barrier is currently activated when ice barrier is purged / dispelled.

It won't activate if you cancel the ice barrier buff.

It won't activate if the ice barrier buff runs out.

Any rank of ice barrier will proc it.

The effect does no damage therefore doesn't break CC.

I've actually found that, if you're soloing as a frost mage who's specced with the desire to AoE farm/grind, then this talent has about a 50% chance of being totally awesome, or totally screwing you over. It's definitely a PvP-oriented talent, but if you want it for PvE, be aware that every time you go to gather a group of mobs for the sake of AoEing them down, you need to be quite sure of when your Ice Barrier is going to break, or else you'll run the risk of having mobs all over and being in a world of hurt.

And you'll have to burn your Frost Nova cooldown then anyway.

Edit as of a week later:
After about five days of mulling over the value of the talent, I had a moment of, "Screw it," and specced out of Shattered Barrier. While, of course, this makes survivability a little bit trickier since mages tend to have less HP than, say, warlocks, and certainly can't heal on the fly, not having this talent makes gathering groups of mobs together for the sake of mass AoE farming/grinding far, far easier.

In my first hour of not having Shattered Barrier, I died three times and found myself using Cold Snap very often, but once I got used to the change, my survivability was actually higher, and I could gather larger groups of mobs for generally more efficient AoE damage. In my experience, Shattered Barrier is useful for mages who are Frostbite-specced, since they won't be doing solo AoE anyway, and Shattered Barrier certainly adds to one's immediate survivability. However, if you're like me and don't use Frostbite because it's a stumbling block for solo AoE grinding/farming? I'd recommend avoiding Shattered Barrier like the plague.

Just my two cents based on personal experience and being a major devotee of Frost solo AoE-viability.

Yes, as written above my post It doesnt break CCs.

But to note that, It wont break Invisibility or Stealth, Prowl etc. too.

A great talent, imo, will save your bottoms (yes, I am kind, watcha gonna do!) a lot of times in PvP

Totally worth spending 2 points.

Something I found interesting is that this can proc if someone destroys your shield while you're mounted, and you will not dismount. Useful for getting some range on melee that jump you or for shedding mobs you accidentally aggro while traveling.

Currently does not share any DR with other similar effects, such as controlled roots (Frost Nova) or proc-based roots (Frostbite).

Any Frost Mage that doesn't take this talent is gimping themselves.

... Unless you want to level with AoE grinding and also want to be able to control when and where mobs are locked in place. Also, how the hell is this going to increase your DPS? You should never be getting hit in a dungeon/raid environment unless you're mentally challenged*.

*- Or if your tank is dead, which you likely will be too shortly thereafter. Yes, this could save your arse on those nearly-dead groups of snareable trash that somehow killed your tank, but if you're speccing for trash, you're doing it wrong.

Oh, and how many elites are snareable and not easily handled with other snares? As a frost mage, you shouldn't be getting hit in the first place, especially if you're speccing deep in the tree.

What Blizzard said about rogues :

Basically, we're looking to chill out some of the passive, automatically-applied snares on some classes get because there's no real gameplay to them beyond just I touch you and you're snared.

Shattered barrier : You touch me, you are frozen... Right...

And Reactive Barrier : You touch me below 50% auto refresh... Right...

Of course there is a real gameplay for theses 2 effects, some sick sick Game Play. I'm not even going to talk about hunters and warlocks pets AI.
