I have to say, TLC was one of my favorite trinkets in BC outside of SoG, being a shaman in BC TLC lasted till about SWP, When blizzard put in Thunder Capacitor, I was so happy (although a nerfed version for reasons TLC was nerfed) I had to get it, and as an Ele shaman I have to get this.

More on the item.

A few people I know were asking what means.

"Unique-Equipped: Variable Pulse Lightning Capacitor (1)"

I'm not for sure, but it seems kind of common sense to me its so you don't use the NORMAL VERSION and a HEROIC VERSION, much like in ToC running two of the same trinkets but one being a normal version and one being heroic.

Anyway this is for those that had the same question as a few of my friends.

The Lightning Capacitor has gone through several iterations by now; and if the previous version is any indication, this will likely be a BiS trinket for casters.
Spell DPS will also have 塞斯符文 and 巫术聚焦器 to choose from, should they pick this trinket.

For anybody interested, here is the history of this trinket style:

The effectiveness of this trinket for various classes will depend on whether it can gain charge's from DoT ticks. If it can expect Warlocks and Shadow Priests to be melting each others faces over this.

Just got this on my priest, went straight to the training dummies and can confirm that it procs from DoT ticks.

I just got this tonight as a destro warlock. I'm not sure how much I like the proc. So far I've only tested it on a training dummy, but it seems to be doing very little damage when it goes off. Maybe with raid buffs it will get better, but until then it feels like this is just a massive block of int. Which is cool, cause I love int, but I don't see this being irreplacable -- Pretty much anything with this much int and a better bonus would likely replace it.

Again, I only tested it on a training dummy, I'll edit/reply next time I raid with it and have real combat logs to parse.

EDIT: Tested it in raids. After a boss fight, it did about 110k dmg, or less damage than my doomguard. Avg hit: 5402.5, crit 38% of the time.

Got this trinket last week on my Balance Druid. From our Heroic Shannox kill tonight my trinket only did 1.4% of my total damage. 15 total hits for an average of 4925.5 and total of 73882. 4 total crits for an average of 14415.0 for a total of 57660. While the int is very nice, trinkets like 巫术聚焦器 are going to be BiS because of what the proc can do for dps.

Got this for my warlock yesterday. It's proc does about 1%~2% of my total damage both in demo and destro — less than 2t12 bonus, which is about 3%. That seems extremely weak. However, my overall DPS with it still looks higher than with DMC:Volcano, so i'll wear this for now.

UPD. Spent about an hour testing various trinket setups on dummy today for afflli lock. VPLC outperforms both H:Bell and my brand new Necromantic Focus by 1-2k DPS for no good reason.

So yes, that trinket is awesome. Looking forward to get enough hit to replace Zeth with Necromantic Focus — this should be deadly.

BTW, the trinket was buffed by about 70% since than.

I am currently experiencing that the stacks just vanish.
They do not do damage (according to the combat log) the buff just "fades" and you have to start from scratch.

This is experienced on a frost mage.
Anyone know whats going on with this?

Additional information about the proc (lightning bolt), not the charge:

1. the proc is triggered by your dmg spell - dots or direct

2. the proc requires line of sight - if you put a dot on a target and then go out of LOS, the proc will not hit if it procs.

3. the proc does not require facing the target

4. the proc is capable of crit

5. the proc is capable of missing if your hit rating is not capped... (i guess you are hit capped while killing rag?)

That's the overall log for a quick test run in ZA. If you don't want to check the image yourself, the minimum hit I saw was 2948, maximum crit was 34666. This is from a fire mage's perspective, with 2464 crit rating and double intellect trinkets (the other being 巫术聚焦器).

It seems to scale with spell power now, contrary to what a lot of others have been saying; I have seen single charges hit for 7k and crit for 11k, while never hitting as low as 1k for a single charge, as the tooltip states
It also scales with the casters crit chance
The cooldown on charge generation is not affected by haste
The charge is fired at the enemy you crit, not your target (i.e. AoE spells fire them off randomly at the ones you crit)
This trinket will benefit casters who crit a lot and who hit very fast the most, such as elemental shamans and fire mages; the proc alone accounts for about 5% of my damage as a fire mage
It can proc from dot crits and even abilities like flame orb (which aren't a direct hit OR a dot) trigger it

This trinket got a stealth buff as of yesterday, or today. It now stacks to a max of 5 and does 300% increased tooltip damage. These are rough estimates, but it should be highly reconsidered as most classes BiS, pre-heroics now!

Ok got this on my elemental shaman yesterday, and it seams awesome, prolly mostly couse we elementals really love ekstra lightningbolts.

after some testing here is a list of disclaimers and claimers for elemental shamans:

Claimers:

Procs of dots such as fire shock.
As the lava burst is a crit you are sure to get alot of procs of this specielly with the tier 12 four-set
Elemental Fury increse the crit damage by 100%
Elemental Precision increse the bolts with 3 %
Elemental Mastery increse the bolts with 20%
The procs will fire and hit and do damage even if los from target
The procs will fire and hit even if mounted

Disclaimers:

The lightningbolts from the trinket are not affected by shaman mastery so no double bolts from trinket atlest.
the proc does not consumes Clearcasting
the proc does not give Rolling thunder
the proc does not give Clearcasting from when crit
the proc does not affect Feedback so not giving 3 secs less cd on Elemental mastery

Yet unknown:
if the proc scales with Shamanism 32% additional benefit from sp on lightning bolt
if the proc scales with Concussion 6% damege on lightning bolt
if the proc scales of Clearcasting 10% damage

as of today i had 6 stacks of Electrical Charge and then on next crit it fired a non crit bolt of 20k as elemental shaman without totems or buffs active aka no debuff on target and no 10% sp from totem.

my gues would be that the trinket still can stack up to 10 but that they just upped the proc chance of the trinket actually firering. that would mean that you very seldom can reach high stacks but that it still is possible.

either that or it was a bug ^^

Testing today on my demo lock, idly wandering through low level heroics like Sethekk Halls. Saw some numbers that seemed unusually high so I did went to the SW training dummies and experimented a little longer, while watching the combat log. Here are a few numbers I noted. No temporary buffs, no procs (which I assume don't affect it anyway, I'm just saying for thoroughness), no Curse of Elements, just the numbers. Because everyone likes seeing numbers.

4-stack crit: ~33k
2 stack crit: 16.3k
2 stack hit: 9k, 8.7k, 8.2k
1 stack crit: ~13.5k, 10.7k
1 stack hit: ~6.5k, 6.4k, 6k, 5.6k, 3.1k, 3k

If the damage stacks additively, the 4-stack seems like it should have hit harder, and even the 1-stack hits range remarkably widely in their damage.

Trinket says 1034-1333 per stack... but it appears to hit for between 2 and 4 times that amount, a fairly wide range of fluctuation. Or there's just something odd about 1-stack mechanics.

Edit: And for the hell of it, afterward I took off all my gear but the trinket and got a 3-stack hit for 11,771 and a 1-stack hit for 6577, which seem right around the proper ranges of damage. If it did scale, it'd be only slightly, and hard to prove with the apparent fluctuations built into the damage range.

It's interesting to note that equipping this trinket on my Shadow Priest boosted the scaling value of Crit immensely, placing Crit over Mastery in both Patchwerk and HelterSkelter fight conditions using 25000 iterations in SimulationCraft 422-4.

Procs for H Pally -

... now that I have your attention ^_^

Procs from Judgment when used for the haste proc/self heal and from Holy Shock for the heal/damage both.

Imagine my surprise when two hours after it dropped I crit a full 10 charge for 88K on a prot warrior in AB and just about shocked his balls off. Yeah, this is my new favorite healing trinket :D

This item appears to be designed to be good for any caster since it's "Your Primary stat plus a pew pew at random". Sure some classes like Arcane mages get more from their primary stat but it's still the primary stat in every class and spec.

It's like DC:Volcano but even more universal since that one did the same but with mastery as a bonus (intellect existed but as a proc). Since some classes did not benefit from mastery as much (or a random proc of intellect was not very beneficial (see arcane)) it was less universal.
