Be sure you farm the delta area in front of the Lost City of the Tol'Vir, there seems to be a good amount of Whiptail that spawns there.

For some Milling data:
300 Whiptail Milled = 60 mills.
Output:
179 Ashen Pigment
27 Burning Embers

some calculation makes that to
0.298 Blackfallow ink
PLUS
0.045 Inferno Ink for each single Whiptail.

From Wowheads' data you could calculate:
3/5/2 = 0.3 Blackfallow ink
plus
2*0.5/5/2 = 0.1 Inferno Ink for each single Whiptail, given that 1-3 or 2-4 means its equally distributed.

Interestingly I only got 2 Burning Embers from one milling once in 60 mills. By this Test its more likely that the distribution of Ember outcome is centered around 1, thats why you only get half, what you would expect from Wowhead numbers.

Did NOT find any in Tol Barad, was there for about 2 hours, but farmed lots of Azshara's Veil. The only place I have seen this is in Uldum along the fresh water ways. Blizz really needs to add more of this to the game, 10 herbs in a little over an hour is ridiculous.

Don't give up on Cradle of the Ancients as a prime spot for collecting whiptail. It may all depend on your server and timing. I'm from the United States on an Oceanic server and often manage to find plenty of whiptail respawns at times of low traffic by the Australians!

On Mal'Ganis Whiptail is currently bugged and is respawning at an incredible rate.

1 stack of Whiptail, on average, will mill to 12 Ashen Pigments and 2 Burning Embers, which equals 6 Blackfallow Inks and 1 Inferno Ink. Converting the Blackfallows to Infernos, Whiptail gives 1.6 Inferno Inks per stack on average.

Twilight Jasmine has the same conversion ratio, while the other 4 new herbs - Cinderbloom, Stormvine, Azshara's Veil and Heartblossum - give 1.0 Inferno Ink per stack.

Just fly up and down the large rivers in the middle of Uldum, and you'll get plenty of them! I was only questing there, and got about 2 stacks in 10mins.

I've picked around 2200 of these. Found out that averagely there are:
3 Whiptail
1.6 Volatile Life
0.3 Lifegiving seeds

Of course I rounded these figures, hope this helps you guys.

Just milled 40 stacks of 鞭尾草 (160X milling) and got 468 烬色染料 and 67 燃烧的余烬.

So milling % is like

292,5% on 烬色染料

41,87% on 燃烧的余烬

I find this herb to give more Burning Embers than 暮光茉莉.

This herb is a full time nightmare to get, not only have blizzard reduced its appearance making it harder to get, it also seems to be sharing a nice long cool down before it respawns...went through Uldum around half a dozen time (late night 2-4am) when the server is almost dead, and i got 2 whips from circling waiting for respawns...really is a lousy herb, and something this developer needs to fix to improve its respawn rate.

Has the ItemID for this changed without anyone being aware? I use an addon called Deconstructive to mill my herbs and since last week it no longer recognises this as being in my bags. I added all the Cataclysm herbs to the LUA file and this is the only one it doesn't recognise?

The best place to farm this is the VIr'nall River Delta (just south of TOl'Vir) in Uldum. It grows faster than you can pick it

The Following was all farmed in 1:00:29 , 1 Hour 29 Seconds. Used ingame stopwatch.
I also previously had all the bots in the uldum zone banned so i was completely alone.

Whiptail 545
Volatile Life 168
Cinderbloom 32 ( from crossing river to river top of map )
------------------------
The Above milled into:

341 Ashen Pigment
68 Burning Embers

That is 170 Fortune cards
And 3 Chances at Darkmoon Faire Cards.

All this in one hour will turn out to be well over 3,000 gold.
These results are only achievable when you are alone, so i suggest herbing 1 hour seeing all other people herbing chances are they will be bots. Report them and they get 48 hour ban you now have 48 hours to farm by yourself.

Can someone confirm what the "requires herbalism" color is for someone that is NOT a tauren at max herbalism level?

I know it's yellow at 540.
EDIT: and green at 550.

EDIT 2: I just checked on beta. This herb has been nerfed to go gray at 550. Bummer.

hmm, did 1 round of patrolling the river and in about 10 minutes I gathered 6 stacks of this herb as a 81 druid in Uldum and they seem to respawn pretty quick

It took me about 90 minutes to get 560 鞭尾草s (28 stacks) plus 181 动燃生命s

I do not know about other server but on Thorium Brotherhood these sell for 40-50g a stack. Milling them is always better. By milling I got

327 烬色染料s = 163 Blackfallow Ink
73 燃烧的余烬 = 36 Inferno Ink

One Inferno Ink on my server sells for about 30g. A stack of Blackfallow Ink easily sells for 200g. So, 28 stacks of 鞭尾草 MILLED and turned to ink would equal to about 2600g. But what sells the best it seems are Mysterious Fortune Cards --> 神秘的财富卡 The cheapest one I saw on my server was 12g. And they sell like cupcakes.

163 Blackfallow Inks can make 163 Mysterious Fortune Cards. 163 by 12 (and I use the most conservative number. Sometimes they sell good for as high as 20g) equals 1956g plus Inferno Ink (36 by 30g= 1080) = ~3000g

I almost forgot about Volatiles. Those alone worth 1500g. So, For 90min farming 4000-5000g isn't that bad.

Here are the results of a bit larger sample of milling than others have posted: Ultimately my ratio was 1.68 inferno ink to 1 stack of whiptail. This assumes you trade all your blackfallow ink for inferno. For Darkmoon Card purposes you would need 10/1.68 = 5.95 stacks ~ 6 stacks of whiptail and 30 volatile life per darkmoon card created.

Details of Milling Operation:

570 stacks of whiptail milled

1230 burning embers =
615 inferno ink from Burning Ember

6869 ashen pigment =
3434.5 blackfallow ink =
343.45 inferno ink from trader

total inferno ink = 958.45

ratio of inferno ink to stacks of whiptail =

958.45/570 = 1.68

Whiptail are the best if you are a scribe. They have the highest mill rate for Burning Embers, and give you a ton of Volatile Lifes.

And it is also amazing because if you are the only one farming for them. If you use Gatherer or Gatherer2, for every 4 spots where there could be a Whiptail, there will be one up. Every time. The perfect layout is either starting on the top or bottom of the river area in Uldum. Once you make a full pass (top to bottom or bottom to top) stop and mill the Whiptails that you have gathered, and then they have all spawned, and you can make the pass again. This is the most efficient way to farm them, you get between 80-100 this way. If you make two passes (top to bottom and back to top) without stopping you get around 120. Where as if you stopped and waited for them to respawn, you would get 200 in two trips.

I had 28 stacks of 鞭尾草 (112 mills) and got 313 烬色染料 and 60 燃烧的余烬. I was pretty happy with those results.

From what I can see, on Shandris (US Realm) Whiptail is STILL spawning extremely quick-like. I picked up a node and stopped a few feet away mid-air to say something to one of my friends online and turned around to do something and there was another Whiptail in the exact same spot. Awww yeahh.
