Has anyone done any research into the chance to get 1 Essence vs 2 Essences when disenchanting level 70 green weapons? (The ones I saw had iLevel of 120)

I'm trying to figure out if it's worth disenchanting the green weapons I get, or selling them to a vendor for 6-10g.

If you want a cheap and available source of Greater planar essences (1-2 each DE), hope your faction usually controls Halaa and get to the vendor "Coreiel" and buy The Sharp Cookie

The vendor carries 3 of them at one time, sells them for 2g 21s 42c. They are unique so make sure you DE each one as you buy them.

Generally DE's into 1-2 essences, if your unlucky 2-5 Arcane dust.

Despite what you may see here, it does take three Lesser Essences to create a Greater Essence. What you see here is actually a quirk of the way Blizzard handles the spell. On Blizzard's end, a two-step process occurs:

You use the first Lesser Essence, destroying it in the process.
A spell is cast, which destroys the other two Lesser Essences, and creates a Greater Essence.

This spell here--step two--is the spell that gets listed here on Wowhead.

Because of the new dailies in 2.4, the market is now flooded with high-level greens (from the Shattered Sun Supplies quest reward). Expect the average price for common high-level enchanting mats (Arcane Dust, Greater Planar Essence) to take a nosedive. On my server Arcane Dust has dipped below 75s apiece and Greater Planars are barely 5g.

Keeping that in mind, if you're an enchanter doing the new dailies, it might be better to vendor some greens (or even list them on the AH) than disenchant them. Generally, the more armor a green gives, the higher its vendor value (cloth < leather < mail < plate < shield, and wrist < waist < boots < shoulders, etc). which should help you decide whether to DE or vendor. If your server's economy is like mine (Arcane Dust = 75s and Greater Planar = 5g) then that more or less means vendor ALL weapons, mail and plate armor (except for bracers and belts), because the vendor value far exceeds the AH value of the mats you're likely to get (unless you luck out and hit the 5% chance for the shard). If you've already got loads of dust and essences in your bank, then that's even more reason to start vendoring those greens.

I don't know what my server is doing wrong but these have skyrocketed on Stormwind. 13-15g a piece for these and it's been going on for at least 2 months.
I'm inclined to respec enchanting to 375 again just to sell these.

Price increase seems to have happened on Akama too. Arcane dust on the other hand is going for about 65s a piece. Pretty odd.

I can sell a stack of 10 for 80-90g easy on Andorhal, 100-110g if I wait long enough.

They're my "money crop" enchant mats, really.

Is there any Tailoring item that gives them with a bigger chance? The netherweave belts give a few but it has a bigger chance to get arcane dust. What about blacksmithing? Any item with a decent rate?

The "created by" tab is incorrect. Like all other Greater Essences, the Planar also is created from 3 Lessers; NOT from 2.

A good self-created source is Adamantite Cleavers. 8 bars needed, 16 ore. You get 1-2 of these essences per d/e.

I just farmed for mats to get enchanting mats. For Greater planar essence it seemed that the instance "The Bloodfurnice" in outland is the very good.

After two hours farming with my lvl 85 mage I got:

19 greater planar essence (turning lesser into greater)
22 small prismatic shards
145 Arcane dust
--> by disenchants of green and blue items and using the netherweave cloth for making Netherweave belt.

5 greater eternal essence
11 illusion dust
--> by disenchanting contents of the lockboxes that dropped (7)

+/- 200g (loot and selling common drops)

If you are a tailor, you can DE both 强效位面精华 and the equally valuable 奥法之尘 by disenchanting netherweave pants, becomes available at 325 tailoring. You usually get 1 maybe 2 greater planar essences and often 2-4 arcane dusts. It only requires 6 bolts of netherweave cloth and 1 rune thread to create, both cheap enough to get on AH and tailor supplies respectively, or you can farm your own cloth. Additionally, they sell for around 10g per 1 greater planar essence and around 60g or more for a stack of arcane dust so you cannot lose out on this whether you need the dust and essence or whether you need some cash.

Having used a Scroll of Ressurection to bring back a friend to WoW, I started to play my Belf Priest again since she's the closest character to 80 I have. Her professions are Tailoring and Enchanting which I started to level too. I needed 6x 强效位面精华 to create 符文恒金棒. I decided to follow Insomniaxes advice and went to farm "The Blood Furnace" in Outland. I must say the droprate of greens was terrible (altough I only did 1 run, so I might just be unlucky). I got 2 that disenchanted into 奥法之尘. I got a lot of Netherweave Cloth from the run which I converted into Bolts of Netherweave, and then into 17x Netherweave Bracers. After having them disenchanted I ended with the following mats:

16x 次级位面精华
28x 奥法之尘

Luckily I had 2x 次级位面精华 sitting in the bank and after converting all 次级位面精华 into 强效位面精华 I was able to create the 符文恒金棒 and still profit from selling the junk and the 奥法之尘 in Auction House

Maybe I'm missing something, but it says it takes 2 Lesser Planar Essence to make this yet when you "use" it, it disintergrates into 3 Lessers. Is that right or is it some other lessers we're talking about here?

... that may also be the reason there's no list of disenchants... they expect you to make it from the Lessers, I guess...

To clarify the issue which seems to be bothering most people that posted here: essences do NOT drop off mobs, you can only get hold of them if you disenchant an item. That is the only way, or, buy it in the AH, if you do not know enchanting.
