This is apparently the version for the mana users, though I assume the amount of mana gained would scale with level? Even if it doesn't, though, the quick silence effect could give an upperhand in some circumstances. This is probably one of the more useful racial abilities.

Yes, it does scale with level. At level 70 each charge of Mana Tap will restore 161 when you use Arcane Torrent.

At the current time you don't actually need a charge to use this ability, its something to keep in mind if you need to stop someone/something from hammering you.

It should be noted that this is 2 abilities, not 1.
If you use this ability, regardless, it will silence enemies around you. (Energy Tap or not).
If you have Energy Tap counters, you can use this ability at anytime to gain energy/mana (you don't get mana per target, it's per counter).
Please note that the second ability is more powerful for casters then rogues (since at any point you can bring back mana) and have less downtime.

This talent would be a lot better if it scaled 2 mana every level rather than 1, and if it required at least one mana tap as to stay true to the power hungry nature of the Blood Elves.

Activate to silence all enemies within 8 yards for 2 seconds. In addition, you gain 10 Energy / X Mana for every charge of Mana Tap currently affecting you. Mana return scales with level; Energy return does not scale with level.

(Given values indicative of a level 1 character. At level 70, Arcane Torrent gives 161 Mana for each charge. The formula is roughly 2.17 * level + 9.136)

i think 161 mana is kinda pathetic for casters, not even enough for an average spell. maybe for a pally its ok. silence is nice though.

to me, as a frost mage, when I go out of mana, when there's a chance of having 3 Mana Tap stacked, it give around 461 mana, which is enough to use few more spells like Cone of Cold, Ice Lance, Frost Bolt by any chance, or any other spells, around just once or twice even.

It's just not enough I know, but when it comes to in desperate mana needs, this somehow comes in handy.
Also feels good when the target dies by that last spell that was casted by That 461 mana.

At a certain point in pvp, it comes somewhat useful. Whenever there's a time battling with Paladins, when they keep battling until their HP reaches low, they "divine shield" themselves and heal. What I do is, get near real quick when they look like they will divine shield, explode the Arcane Torrent, making them silenced for 2 second, then use all the instant cast spells on them, quickly finish them off. By any chance, one or two crit shot with Fire Blast or possibly any instant cast crit will do the killshot. Just some tricks going along with versus casters, use it at a good timing, will disturb their "plans" with even instant castings because the silence actually debuffs for 2 second. Also frontier blood elves like rogues and paladins can just screw casters with their stuns And Arcane Torrent.

I'd say, Arcane Torrent is a little touch, like a good smell of spices to Blood Elves, and just like any other spells, a spell used in a skilled hand, can always be a killer moves.

Please note that you can use the silencing ability WITHOUT having mana tapped targets before. You don't need the Mana Tap buff to use this, which makes a great 'kick'-like interrupt.

The change to 6% of your base mana for casters is wonderful.
Previously, the spell was absolutely useless for mana-recovery after probably level 6, leaving it as merely an AoE interrupt. Arcane Torrent's mana-recovery scaled very poorly with level, particularly since several of the classes gained mana increases at a much higher rate each level (it was even more annoying considering that a Blood Elf Rogue got the same amount of use out of Arcane Torrent regardless of level).
Now, the amount restored is actually noticeable, especially for Mages and Priests, who already have a substantial base mana pool.

Because Arcane Torrent is currently off the gcd, Paladins can macro this with Divine Plea to recover an additional 6% mana every 2 minutes with one click.

Surprisingly lackluster for a Mage.

While not COMPLETELY bad, for a PvP Mage, Voodoo Shuffle and Will of the Forsaken both squeak out ahead.
For PvE, more regen is nice, but Berserking makes your mana go farther. And Beastslaying makes it go slightly further for Beasts.

For a Rogue and DK however, their version of Arcane Torrent is phenomenal and should not be counted out.

I'd say it's a fairly useful racial (although troll/undead racials are arguably better for PvP).

For PvP, this spell can silence self healers. So that means your allies can spend less time trying to kill that Tree druid who keeps himself alive for quite a while and spend more time stopping the flag bearer who's about to pass by them. In addition, this is an AoE silence - meaning you can run through a group of enemy casters and stop them dead.

For PvE, the silence can be useful in certain situations. Some bosses have spells that can and should be interrupted however possible - this is simply another way to do it. In addition, the mana boost can be a lifesaver in heroics or raids. On my mage, I tend to use my mana gem, then evocation. By the time I near 0 mana again, my mana gem is nearly off cooldown, which means the 6% boost from this ability can keep me in the fight until the cooldown is done.

Considering a mana pool of 25 - 30k (fully buffed) this will refund 1500-1800 mana every two minutes with no GCD.
If used every time it's up, it's an effective 65-75 mp5.
With ilvl 258 items, a paladin stacking intellect gems can reach 31k mana unbuffed and fully buffed will go a lot further. Even in this scenario, the racial gets to ~100mp5.

Nothing stellar but I wouldn't call it the best.

As a priest I found using this after Hymn of Hope provides the best mana back, due to the 20% bonus from the hymn. Any other mana users under the effect can benefit from the same effect.

This spell can save your life in PvP, for example, I was in WSG, had the flag and was nearly at my base to score, I had gone almost oom from finishing off a pesky warrior when a hiding mage jumped out at me, he started frostbolting me but I use this, and managed to 1. stop him casting and 2. get my shield up (Priest) which saved me and won the game, just goes to show that this is surprisingly powerful for a racial

I am somewhat disappointed in this racial as a mage. The mana regen is enough for about one spell and the silence requires me to get CLOSE to my enemies, something I have trained to avoid. :P
Love this for warriors, rogues, or DKs tho.
I wonder which is worth more, 15 rage or 6% mana. I suppose it depends on what you're doing.

If you use this on cooldown, it is equivalent to * 0.0025 MP/5. For example, if you were a Discipline Priest with 120,000 mana-- not a tremendously difficult benchmark to hit for Discipline-- this racial would provide: 120000*0.0025=300 MP/5.

300 MP5 is as much as a lot of fairly decent mana regeneration trinkets. If you're a Horde healer, this makes blood elves the preeminent choice for mana conservation. For straight throughput, you're looking at a troll or goblin.

Seems this has been nerfed to only restore 2% of total mana at level 90, it must have been hotfixed today because it was giving me 18000 mana back earlier, but just recently I noticed my mana bar wasn't going up quite as much so once I finished my heroic run I used it outside and it was only giving me 6000 mana.

Lets be frank though, this ability was INSANELY overpowered, I mean COME ON I could nearly cast a whole Divine Light! Just think of what we could have done with that!

Now this won't restore enough for even 1 healing ability, oh well

But hey 6000 mana is nothing to scoff at though, right? RIGHT?

After the nerf that Blizzard applied in patch 5.0.5 Arcane Torrent now restores 2% mana instead of 6%. The new formula to calculate your in-combat MP5 is the following:

Or in short: /100*2/24=MP5

That would give the following MP5:

Caster without any extra mana features:
3000000/100*2/24 = 250 MP5

Caster with a meta gem (Ember Primal Diamond):
306000/100*2/24 = 255 MP5

The tooltip for this racial on Wowhead appears to be updated.... but the list of Blood Elf racial abilities on the faction's article stub does not reflect the changes to it in Pandaria.

The old stub in Blood Elf shows an incorrect mana restoration of 6%, whereas it only currently restores 2%.

A bit of useless knowledge here. But I didn't see it posted anywhere else.

On one of the blood elf starting quest, you are told to go out and "release" your arcane torrent. This sounds a bit confusing since the racial doesn't actually "release" anything outward. What they ARE releasing is there restraint to absorb all the magical energies around them for a split second. The torrent shows energy being pulled into the character. This is what causes silence for enemy's (should be for everything around you) since you are basically drawing magic out of them for a second. You're not releasing anything into them.

And the reason for a cool down is the blood elfs self control to not become an energy junky and turn into a wretched.

In current pre patch for BfA the ability has been changed.
It no longer "silences nearby enemies" but instead what it now does is "removes 1 beneficial effect from all nearby enemies".
The mana restore percentage stayed the same.

edit: It cannot dispel Divine Shield

As of current patch it is a trash racial.
Basically get a weaker version of a demon hunter ability (in which demon hunters now have two of these exact same abilities)
Not even worth playing a belf for the 1% increased Crit chance (basically all you get now) as many other racials and races have this and better effects and it adds a few seconds to any rotation that it's best leaving it out of the bar.

Absolutely useless ability right now.
I'm really upset with the changes, cuz silence in PvP was very useful and now it's a trash which makes Blood Elves the weakest race.
It's useful only in PvE for healers, to restore mana.
