The damage you take from this effect is shadow damage, and the reduced healing and damage is absorbed.

Basically
If your pet is injured (example: 100) you get the most of the damage (ex: 80), while the pet (ex: 20) damage reduced.

However, if you receive a damage (ex.100), you will undergo a damage reduced (20), while a pet the most part of the damage (ex.80)

Soul Link no longer acts as a flat damage decrease and is now variable depending on you and your pets HP. In simple terms with this version of Soul Link, you and your pet will ALWAYS die at the same time. In effect what this means in action is say you have 100% HP and your pet has 1% HP. The majority of any damage your pet takes will be redirected towards yourself, e.g. you will take 99% of the hit and your pet 1%. The opposite is also true, if you're at 1% and your demon is at 100% he will take 99% of the damage you take.

The inverse is true for healing, if your pet is low and you are full your pet will take the majority of a heal cast on you - making the problem of "HEAL PET PLZ" a problem of the past! Keep in mind as good as this sounds, you will sacrifice Health Funnel to obtain it, so make sure you can kill your foe before he can kill you!

p.s. The damage you take from Soul Link can be absorbed through twilight ward, in essence it will always be a great damage reduction cooldown for people using Soul Link and will possibly keep you from dying when your pet does.

As of the latest patch, this ability has been extremely nerfed it reduces your pets hp by 50%.

Tbh 25% would have been more than enough if that was even necessary this had made me from super excited to come back to wow as i only play warlock to disgusted with the idea.

This ALWAYS happens its always hope then hope crush like some sadistic game, honestly its that #$%^ing dark apotheosis's fault i loved that and thought it was so cool, now i just want it completely removed i dont care about holding agroo tanking anymore, some last minute emergeancy tanking like wotlk is fine but i wont have my $%^&ing class extremely nerfed over this %^&*ing one ability.

Remove dark apotheosis, bring back full hp soul link.

Been a warlock since vanilla, 7 years and I NEVER and still dont have or ever had a max level except warlock 60-70-80-85 warlock no other maxes and still not and i even quit cata as warlock was so bad and its warlock or NOTHING for me.

I speak for all the warlock community I think when I say though we would dread the removal of Dark Apotheosis and walking around with wings is SO sweet and beautiful that losing is just a nightmare but I think all of us can agree if we are going to be mega nerfed into the ground and its just gonna be another Cataclysm then we dont want to have anything to do with this Ability.

Does not affect fall damage.
Not sure why, but when my pet happened to step in lava I took about 4x the damage I myself took standing in the same lava with soul link off.

IMO should make Health Funnel unusable while active instead of replacing it. I agree with the two being unusable in synergy, because that would be awfully OP, but there are situations when one wants to turn this off (soloing with pet as tank comes to mind) and HF will be missed in such situations. I'd like to see the talents useful (or at the very least not punishing) to some extend everywhere rather than having to use Fel-Charred Tome each time before and after situation where it might come handy

Bear in mind that although pet health is reduced by 50%, all damage it takes will be split onto you and thus it has the same effective health as it did originally. This was done so that your pets (specifically voidwalker) don't wind up with an effective health level that exceeds a real tank.

pre-5.4, Soul Link replaces Health Funnel.

if Grimoire of Sacrifice is also chosen, when pet been sacrifice,
which means there is no pet to be Soul Link, Warlock get a 20% max health bonus instead

Just for clarification, Soul Link is a spell you can choose at level 45 as a talent. If you choose Sacrificial Pact or Dark Bargain, you will not have this spell.

wouldn't recommend using this in a raid type of environment, can lead to nasty damage spikes if both you and your pet get hit at the same time with damage, which will happen.

To get the 20% hp bonus when using grimoire of sacrifice, you do not actually need to activate soul link, the 20% bonus is added passively to the ability. This confused me for a little, so i hope it helps.

Neither tooltip for the talent or the spell ingame states that Soul Link actually replaces Health Funnel. I was looking frantically ingame wondering why I couldn't find my Health Funnel until I had to Google the answer.

So, quick recap: If you're speced into Soul Link it replaces Health Funnel!

Soul Link will not protect you from "self inflicted damage" like Life Tap, and it will not protect you from fall damage.

It also replaces your Health Funnel - since most of healing you receive will be shared with the pet as well.

This talent interacts a little strangely with the Soul Leech talent. Since you have much more flat HP than your demon, Soul Link will hit you for a harder flat amount than your demon. So Soul Link will eat through your own absorb a lot quicker than your demon's absorb. So you can't truly "double dip" the absorb of Soul Leech by using Soul Link, since the absorb will stack up very high on your demon while your own absorb is being completely used up.

These two talents as a combination, however, are still very useful for leveling and soloing, as they let your demon have the survivability to take on a lot of hits and give you the self-absorbs necessary to sustain both of you. That means all the benefits of zero pushback without having to waste time using Health Funnel.

If when soloing you are using your Voidwalker/lord or Fel/Wrathguard make sure to keep them on a very tight leash, because if they start to get too much aggro they can drag you down like cement shoes. Be ready to ditch Soul Link when you start to see this happen. If you manage it well though, you can take on more enemies than you would otherwise not be able to handle and walk away with full health.

i do have a question on this spell for a pvp idea and if any1 has tested would love 2 know

so my idea is quite simple really if the lock makes his pet wait with his healer beind a pillar while he jumps out in open and takes damage the healer could heal the pet which would heal the lock also correct? so in theory the healer would be able 2 cancel LoS ? would this work?

As of 5.4 if you use this along with grim sac you do NOT get healed, so it's worthless unless you just want the 20% health buff.

So I'm a little confused on how this talent actually works. In game (and here on Wowhead) it states:

"20% of all damage taken is split with your summoned demon. Additionally, 3% of all damage you deal is converted to healing on you and your summoned demon."

That sounds reasonable enough, though it's not precisely clear on whether it's damage the caster takes, damage you take, or both parties. It seems unlikely that it's damage the pet takes alone, so my thinking is, it's either the caster alone, or a simple shared health system.

The 3% healing from damage would seem to be limited to caster inflected damage, but it doesn't specifically state that pet damage is not included.

The other issue is that of the Battlenet Talent Calculator. According to that, the talent works differently:

"When active, all damage you and your pet take is shared, but your demon's health is reduced by 50% Recasting this spell cancels the effect."

I seem to recall this is how things worked on my old warlock before I deleted him, so it would be logical to assume this is an older version. However, it doesn't make sense that Blizzards own website is out-of-date with their game.

Can someone confirm this?

The 3% healing from damage done doesn't seem to work with immolation aura or hellfire hitting enemies.
Strangely, it DOES work on the self-damage taken from using hellfire.

Just got this and tested it against a few mobs. It seems that if your pet takes damage then it is not reduced- you take none. If you take damage, then pet takes 20% of the damage and you take 80% of the damage. Heals you and your pet for 3% of whatever damage you do and whatever damage your pet does (pets' damage seems to be treated as your damage).

Can someone confirm this? I will test further tomorrow.

As of the first prepatch, 10.0 on 10/30/2022 I'm not noticing the +10% health from using Grimoire of Sacrifice. I summoned a pet, used GoS, and my stamina value and HP remained the same. I removed the talent, tried sacrificing again: no change to my HP. Is this bugged or am I just not understanding how it works properly?
