BFF Report - Yes, More Completely Necessary 4.0.1 Coverage
We haven't crammed your feeds with enough 4.0.1 coverage, right? Hopefully, my short and concise to-do list fits the void that all of you have within.. you know, that space that yearns for more chinhawk. ;)
So what's the plan for the next several weeks?

BFF Report - Warhammer Online Is The Next WoW Killer... Oh Wait..
We hear this from time to time about whatever various games are coming out, but nothing compared to when Warhammer and AoC were announced. For those that were around, it was a mad frenzy of long time tabletop Warhammer players that were on a hate spree in the forums. Now that the game is offering their 'Endless Free Trial', which allows players to experience some of the games features and level to Rank 10, I decided to give it a shot and see just how awesomazing this game was.
For those that don't know, WoW has managed to withstand the 'brutal loss' of its many subscribers to these various 'killers'. For the most part, I think we all agree that the only think that will bring down the game will be Blizzard themselves, or time. Besides those two factors, what single event/game/occurance, do
you
think will have the largest impact on the population? No, 2012 is not an answer.

Final Fantasy XIV, and I Didn't Even Have to Mention the Lack of Jump
I think I have just finished probably one the most controversial MMOs in recent history. You either hate this game or you love it, there is virtually no middle ground here. Also, their fans are not afraid to speak out against the "WoW Fanboys" citing the repeating caves as their sole defense for massive chunks of repeating terrain in the game's open world. There is no doubt that regardless of what anyone says, Final Fantasy XIV is going to be successful. Which is totally fine, but that certainly doesn't give it immunity from a BFF Report style ribbing.
WoW is always the game that defending fans of other titles associate their opposition with, what do you guys think of that? Especially after seeing this episode, do you think that WoW compares/is better/is dated?

One Rick to Roll Them All (aka BFF Report - LotRO)
I know what you're thinking, "Where the #@$% is my Final Fantasy XIV BFF Report?!" Unfortunately, there has been another delay in our age
NDA
and it will come out SOON. That's not to take away from Lord of the Rings Online, though. It recently went F2P and I wanted to get in there and see just how much crap I could find under it's protective Cloak of Tolkiencibility. I'm also dropping it early because next Tuesday is going to be FFXIV BFFR DDAY.
Mark your calendars. >:D

BFF Report - Minecraft - No, It Isn't Another WoW Clone..
That's the first thing I thought when this game was recommended to me, but can you blame me? With the constant onslaught of free2play WoW rip-offs, seeing anything "____Craft" is suspect. Minecraft is nothing close to what I had expected. It is a sandbox environment where you're given the ultimate set of virtual Legos, and to quote the website, "..a game about placing blocks while running from skeletons."
If I can sum it up even further, it's like FarmVille plus zombies, minus the shame... and minus the FarmVille, knawmean? To top it off, the classic version is free and runs in your browser.

Vindictus, the 'Hack n' Slash' F2P MMO, Has Been BFF'd (??)
Let's take Fable, strip down all the RP open-world nonsense and replace it with everything we've learned from the past 17 'Street Fighter II' games. Then sprinkle in some MMO elements, some glow, and make it fit the lore of Nexon's ongoing MMO series, "Mabinogi" but call it VINDICTUS...in the U.S.
If you read that with any negative connotation, you may be surprised at just how well this product has come together thus far...
As always, you can catch video extras and gaming randomness on my

Tired of City of Heroes Talk? Good, the BFF Report Has Some Words..
That's right, besides my outstanding submission to the
City of Heroes Character Creation Contest
, I got to spend the last couple of weeks resurrecting awesome cartoon superheroes and wearing leotards. It's been quite the experience, to be honest... revealing could be a better word for it. I really was pushing this report down to the wire though, within minutes of wrapping up the shoot, beta came to an end. Sadly, this also means no one will ever get to see my amazing japaneserobocop hero. :(

All I have to say is, the Goblin starting experience was clearly directed by Michael Bay.

The BFF Report..er.. Reports from the Worgen Starting Zones!
I finally got into Cataclysm and with it, over 800gb of in game footage that I have to somehow squeeze into these tiny ten minute segments. The first piece of coverage I'm offering up is a walkthrough of the Worgen starting zone. Besides all the bareback riding, missed opportunities for good Twilight jokes (is there such thing?), and epic phasing abuse, Blizz seems to have taken a completely different approach to creating these zones than what we are used to.
Think Westfall... probably 80% of the quests are centered at Sentinel Hill, Gilneas is the complete opposite. I found myself doing 2-3 quests at each outpost/abandoned house/street corner before moving on to the next mini-hub. This was cool and all, but I found that (besides Grandma Wahl) in the end, I didn't really care about any of them. I mean, Ill never forget Mankrik, Jitters, the fat drunk in Westfall hills, but these guys? Who cares!
*OMG SPOILER ALART!11*
It's not like I'm going to see them again anyways...

The BFF Report Welcomes You to the Future...?
When I first walked in the door at E3, there was this super attractive young lady (shocker, right?) who took my hand and escorted me over to this giant, baby food orange booth. She likely picked me because of my incredible aura of masculinity, and not because Dolby was standing right behind me sporting a super giant news camera, amirite? She dropped a funky PS3'esque controller into my, now sweaty, palm and introduced me to the future of gaming. Sort of..
You guys ever heard of this fancy "cloud computing" technology that allows you to access documents from virtually any computer terminal? Well, replace those silly DPS calculators with games and you have OnLive. The game I was playing was not hosted by any console or gaming PC anywhere in the vicinity, but rather being streamed, live, over the interwebs, to the giant LCD TV in front of me. The first thing that came to mind was "LOLOLLOLatency," but after ninja tapping the controller a few times...
btw, I got her number.

The BFF Report Pretends to have Never Played WoW...
Remember back when all of you claim to have started playing WoW? You know, the pre-beta days when the game was nothing but conceptual drawings and quest ideas jotted on a notepad. That's when the game was hardcore, unlike today, where these n00bs benefit from Blizzard's "casual friendly" experience. Back then, we used to have to grind through countless sheets of college rule and RNG was only a dice roll away.
Well, I decided to pretend that none of that ever happened and that I was just another casual in today's gaming industry trying to mooch a G. Let's see how I did..

Aion 1.9 Is Out, and I Know You Guys Care
I told someone that I would hook it up with a quick BFF Report for Aion 1.9, and I thought there would be enough stuff to go over... Wow, was I wrong. I mean, the patchnotes are lengthy, but outside of my incredibly butch gladiator toon, there wasn't much to look at. In the end, I somehow managed to squeeze out a few minutes of coverage and even had enough time to highlight some E3 footage that's hosted on our new
YouTube
channel.
BTW, I have some plans for an upcoming BFFR and need your input...
Tell me 3 things that you despised about leveling 1-20 in
vanilla
WoW.
Thanks!

BFF Report - All Points O'Brien
I went to E3 last week to pretty much just hit on booth babes, but I partied a little too hard and now I have this "Malgayne pwnz" tribal henna tattoo on my left rump-cheek (near the crease). I vaguely remember getting the chance to
interview tons of developers
making games that somehow will all be the next "WoW killer," and even went toe-to-toe with EJ "
lolhandlebarmustache
" Moreland, lead designer for APB! Speaking of...
This week's BFF Report is all about gameplay in All Points Bulletin... and man what a controversial subject that is amirite!?? Seriously, talk about panties->bunched when they announced that they embargoed reviews until after release (now down to July 2nd, UK release date). Then there are all the lone-wolf types who try and play this massive MULTIPLAYER game all by their lonesome and then QQ about how boring it is (they are right, btw). Truth be told, the game has it's flaws, but the good news is that the
developers are aware
of the community's concern... now let's see if they actually do anything about it.

So... I Managed to Ninja APB Beta Access
This game is nothing at all what I thought it would be. It plays like GTA, but progresses like BF, CoD, etc. This is just the first part, I'm still piecing together part two and waiting for open beta to be released to monitor any changes to gameplay (something about a free-for-all server?).
Anyways, here's what I got so far.. lots and lots of ridiculously over-the-top customization..
For those that were in beta, what do you guys think of it's classification as an MMOFPS? Are we too used to the genre standard being a lobby based social area with instanced arena combat (Huxley, Global Agenda, Etc) to allow wiggle room for a game like this?

BFF Report Episode 29: Guide to Cataclysm Pre-Launch Events
By now many of you have seen the BFF Report, but did any of you know that before I got sucked into this never ending cycle of reviewing craptastic games, I was an
accomplished
WoW
player
? Sure, I may not have started out by playing the game as it was intended, but I did eventually manage to make it to the (LOL)end. And it's a good thing too, because now, this bald, creepy, pale white gnome is going to be
your
guide through
Cataclysm
beta... assuming I can get my hands on a key that is.
Unfortunately, for now all I can offer is a spoiler laden walkthrough of the two pre-launch events that are currently on the available on the PTR... and some RUN DMC.

BFF Report Episode 28: Heroes of Newerth vs League of Legends
Is anyone shocked that developers are trying to cash in on the massive success of the Warcraft 3 mod/map, DotA? I suppose there is that sweet spot in time where you can offer a game that is pretty much a straight copy with updated graphics, a dash of new features, a pinch of support, and still be accepted as something
new
and
refreshing
(I'm looking at you, BeatHazard).
In this episode of the BFF Report, I got to checkout the two newest heavy hitter entries into the MOBA genre,
League of Legends
(F2P) and
Heroes of Newerth
($30 retail). Is either one worthy of being crowned the unofficial successor of DotA? Are you gonna pass and wait for the SC2 mod? Bloodline Champions? Do you like cookies?

BFF Report Rummages Through Steam's Indie Bin
After months of heated debate and seventeen riveting
Hungry Hungry Hippos
face-offs,
Malgayne

And, while it may have cost me twenty big-toe massage sessions and my dignity, I'm proud to have finally made it to this stage in my life. Now to the meat and healthy carbohydrates portion of this week's post...
Last week I took it upon myself to dig through the dollar(ish) bin in the XBOX Live market and left all you PC gamers mildly unsatisfied. As a result, I've turned my focus to Steam in hopes to find something indie, cheap and worthy of my precious in-between-MMOs time... which I apparently have had ample amounts of these past few weeks!
