Seems to be the only way to get spellpower on a cloak.
The parachute on this is really nice for BGs, but not too viable in arenas. For arenas I'd recommend Greater Speed.

18 spell power is probably better for your class than 23 haste, DPS wise. It is for warlocks since anything instant barely benefits from haste and DoTs get so much benefit from straight spell power. Still, it's certainly not a profession specific perk the level of prismatic gems or leatherworking bracers.

But it's certainly something, and you'll look far more stylish with a parachute than plummeting to your death like that blacksmith.

Here are some comparisons of this enchant over the standard 23 spell haste enchant from a warlock point of view.

Destruction Warlock (0-40-31), (0-41-30)

Scale factors

Spell haste = 1.03 per 1 spell haste so 1.03 * 23 = 23.69
Spell dmg = 1.32 per 1 spell dmg so 1.32*18 = 23.76

So for destro/demon locks the gain will be 0.07 more than the standard spell haste enchant (as well as the "on use" affect).

So yes this is slightly better for a a destro lock. The difference is more noticeable for affliction locks.

Spell haste = 0.90 so .93 * 23 = 21.39
Spell dmg = 1.45 so 1.45 * 18 = 26.1

So for affliction locks the gain will be 4.47 more than the standard spell haste enchant (as well as the "on use" affect).

So for locks, it looks like a better enchant as well as the utility it provides. The tailoring enchant is vastly superior in terms of the extra dmg it will output.

I was thinking that this wasn't giving me the spell power bonus at first, because after applying it, all it said was the parachute part, and I didn't check my SP before applying it. After applying a 2nd one to my other set, I noticed that it was giving the SP, but it just does not say it on the actual enchant.

I tested around a bit with Rawr, and for Mage's the 23 haste is slightly better, hardly even half a DPS (though the difference may increase with gear though.. But in my case, it was .2 DPS increase)
Seeing as we don't really need a slow fall either, for Mage's its just sticking to the 23 haste it seems :)

From the wording it looks like higher level engineers can now apply the tinkers to lower level engineers - doesn't say "can only apply to your own cloak" or anything like that, and it says engineering skill must be at least 350 (even though the tinker requires 380 to learn). I'm trying this on my level 52 tonight!

EDIT: Never mind. The cast range says (self). Oh well, guess I don't need to skip class tonight to test it out.

If you're jumping off things then the old Parachute Cloak has one big advantage:

The 10s of fall slowing isn't prematurely ended when you land, so you can make further jumps within the effect.

I found this out taking my usual shortcut into BRD, taking the Searing Gorge entrance, then dropping down onto a ledge on the way to the mine entrance, by the MC attunement/teleport guy. Usually I can get to the ledge, then down to the rock in the lava with the old cloak. With the new arachnoweave I got to the ledge then fell the rest of the way, taking about 95% damage.

Just to update the warlock post i made. The new patch means this has changed somewhat.

3 specs I focus on for destruction warlocks are;

0-13-58 -> Spell haste is better
53-0-18 -> Engineering Enchant is better
3-13-55 -> Spell Haste is better

Scaling factors;

Destruction Spec 0-13-58 - SP=1.52 Haste=1.55
For Spell Power 1.52*18=27.36
For Spell Haste 1.55*23=35.65

Affliction Spec 53-0-18 - SP=1.56 Haste=1.04
For Spell Power 1.56*18 = 28.08
For Spell Haste 1.04*23 = 23.92

Hit Destruction Spec 3-13-55 - SP=1.48 Haste=1.46
For Spell Power 1.48*18 = 26.64
For Spell Haste 1.46*23 = 33.58

**Again to update after this has changed to 28SP, it's easily better than the spell haste standard enchant. so Ignore the above ^^**

Due to the changes coming in 3.2, and how the scaling - dps is right now here's how it calculates:
Pre 3.2:
23 Haste: 23 * 0.94 = 21.62 DPS
18 SP + Parachute: 18 * 1.51 = 27.18 DPS

Post 3.2:
23 Haste: 23 * 0.94 = 21.62 DPS
27 SP + Parachute: 40.77 DPS
Either way, the parachute cloak gives you more overall DPS than a normal 23 haste enchant.

Might be just me, but I've got a bug where once I've applied the parachute cloak, the increase in spellpower isn't written into the item tooltip, even I do in fact receive the bonus spellpower.

This apparently does not share a cd with Flexweave Underlay. Since 3.2 they are 30 seconds of slow fall and the slow fall is not canceled upon swapping out capes, so you can make a macro to use 1 type of cape and equip the other one at the same time. So while you get the slow fall of the first cape, the second cape is going through its "on equip" cd of 30 seconds. When you lose the slow fall of the first cape you can use the second one and gain another 30 seconds. You can then repeat with a second macro to get the same effect again.

I recommend making a set of macros like this:

/use (Cape 1)
/equip (Cape 2)
/use (Cape 2)
/equip (Cape 1)
(Remember these are just rough example macros so I'm open to improvements)

This will give you near-infinite slow fall if used correctly. Cape 1 will be the cape with the Springy Arachnoweave and Cape 2 will be the cape with Flexweave Underlay.

Combine with Rocket Boots Xtreme for extra fun.

ehi there, i know it could be a noob question and so on but, even if i'm not an engineer, can i enchant my back just for the 28spell power stat? do i have to be an eng. to benefit the spell power stat? if it is not so i say that this ench is by any means a must for almost any caster.. healer or dps, pvp or pve

As a frost mage I go with the Springy Arachnoweave on my PvE cloak and 23 haste on my PvP cloak.

Here, I made this chart which includes ALL the professions, concerning spell power:

Alch: +47 SP (Mixology gives an extra 47 SP on Flask of the Frost Wyrm.)
BS: +46 SP (Two extra sockets, both with +23 SP.)
Ench: +46 SP (+23 SP to rings.)
Eng: +45 Haste, -1 SP (+27 SP replaces +23 Haste on cloak, +68 passive haste replaces +28 SP.)
Herb: Heal over Time (Heals for 3600, affected by maximum health.)
Inscription: +46 SP (+70 SP, +15 Crit, instead of +24 SP, +15 Crit.)
JC: +48 SP (Three +39 SP in place of three +23 SP.)
LW: +46 SP (+76 SP instead of +30 SP.)
Mining: +60 Stam (Toughness.)
Skinning: +40 Crit (Master of Anatomy.)
Tailor: -23 Haste, +50-60 SP (Roughly +50-60 passive SP replaces +23 Haste.)

Fun fact: This does not work while flying over Dalaran... It gives a "cannot be used on the ground" message while you're plummeting to your death.
