For this quest you're going to need to kill the various ogres in Warmaul Hill and collect 7 of their skulls. Use these Skulls at coords 28, 24 in the summoning circle to summon Gurok(it's on top fo the mountain/hill). You'll want a group of 2 or more for him.

Rogue, Lock, Shadowpriest. No potions, just dps + vampiric embrace is enough, not a very tough fight even. Probably doable with 2. Rogue + Lock managed to down him to 2%.

Druid schmuid I solo'd this as a 66 Aff lock + Enslaved felguard legionairre from Forge Camp Hate.

They hit damn hard, Gurok really didn'jt last long. I barely had to do any dps myself.

Killed him with solo with a level 70 Elemental Shammy. I just popped out an Earth Elemental Totem, Searing Totem & Wrath of Air Totem then just dps the crap out of him while healing the tank once in a while. I ran out of mana once though so I had to use a mana pot.

Soloed this as a lvl 68 Demonology Warlock. I went up to Warmaul Hill killed some oger's to collect 7 skull's. And i cleared the path up to Gurok. And then i just went down and enslaved a Felguard at Forge Camp Hate. Took like 20 secs to kill Gurok. Easy as pie ;)

Killed him tonight - pretty easily, actually.

66 rogue, 67 mage and myself, 68 shammy.

I used my rock elemental to tank him and we laid on the damage. The elemental lasted juuust long enough. He died, but by then Gurok only had about 3k hitpoints left, so we took him down easily. He didn't do any knockbacks.

Just soloed as a 70 marks spec hunter, but I had to pop a health pot and came extremely close to dying. BM hunters should have an easier time with this.

Indeed. He hits pretty hard (450 average on a pet with 12k armour, and crits for 1k), but he only has about 25k hp and goes down very fast.

Definatly NOT solo-able as a 66 hunter. Killed pet before I even managed to get him to 75%, and kiting is useless as there are too many ogres on the way out. Definatly try and get a group for this one, a healer would be useful.

Confirmed as written above easily soloable as a lvl 68 affliction lock (surprised myself :P)

Just follow the instructions above ie. collect skulls first then go and enslave an elite legionnare (felguard) from the nearest forge camp.

Mount up and run to summing circle.

Then once u summon stand against a wall next to the circle and just dps him till he's down.

Lasted no more than 30 sec for me.

I actually was able to solo him as a level 70 enhance shaman. I created a Greater Earth Elemental as a tank and started to beat him down. I only had to cast a heal once on the elemental. However, Gurok never did a knock-back, dunno if it was because he was fighting an earth elemental or he never got the chance :)

Soloed him as a 70 lvl hunter with a dps pet and not tank pet.
I send the pet with bestial wrath and intimidation and then started dps it.I use trinkets and when the pet was at low health Give a distracting shot to focus on me and heal the pet.
After he hits me 3 times i feign death and he focus on pet.
He was then on 15% of health so it was easy.

2 Manned him with me being a lvl. 66 BM spec hunter having the owl tank and a 70 shadow priest heal. Keep mend pet up and when I pulled just be sure to have Feign Death ready.

Was extremely easy to solo as a 70 Enhance Shaman, just used fire elemental totem at beginning of fight while i was backed up to one of the pillars, popped heroism, shamanistic rage and my +attack power trinket. Healed myself a few times when i got around 50% HP but took around 40 seconds. Gear mostly blues and a couple greens.

I can say that this boss is soloable as a 70 hunter, but it is not an easy kill. He is immune to freezing trap, so if your pet dies your best hope is to Feign Death and hope he does not resist.

First attempt was a failure, but I discovered Gurok had remarakably low health and/or armor. Resisted my Feign Death and I died.

Second attempt proved succesful. Gurok does not despawn upon death, so if another group doesn't jump him you can get back in time to kill him again. An early Intimidation helped my pet grab aggro and I wittled him down rather quickly to 60 percent. Pulled aggro and feigned death, started wittling him down again. 20%, pulled aggro again, again feigned death. Killed without to much difficulty.

He doesn't hit particularly hard, but he does posses two moves to be worried off. Entangling Roots and a Shock style attack that hit for around 1870 on me. His Melee attacks are not particularly strong, hitting for around 800 on me, but a crit can be devetating and you have to watch for his knockback.

Extremely easy to kill with a 70 elemental shaman. I'd suspect it can be done pre-70, actually. Just use your Greater Earth Elemental to tank.

Gurok did not knock the elemental back, though I don't know if that's because it is immune or if I just got lucky. The worst he did to me was entangling roots.

Gurok only has around 25,000 HP, so even with healing the elemental occasionally I finished the fight with half mana.

Tips from a 70 Feral Druid.

Gurok's Melee attack - Hits for 250-400 on a Feral Tank.
Gurok's Earth Shock attack - Hits for 1350-1380
Gurok's Entangling Roots dot - Hits for 187-188

I'm unsure if my tanking set will load, but let me give some pointers on this fight. Gurok hits decently hard, but hits slow. The main form of damage is that of Earth Shock. Your life will be easily eaten alive if you don't have a large amount.

Going into the fight, I had 21537 armor (67.10% mitigation) and 15145 hp. Dodge Chance of 19.43%. The benefit of having Idol of Terror increases your dodge chance, crit chance, armor count, and attack power. The more you hit, naturally the higher the chance of it proccing.

1. Fly to the Earthen Brand.
2. You will see several pillars which look like obelisks. This is where you will tank Gurok throughout the entire fight.
3. Place a quick HoT on yourself to mitigate Gurok's initial damage.
4. Demoralizing Roar > Mangle > Lacerate x 3-5. (Maul when you have the rage, keeping Lacerate and Mangle refreshed.)
5. Hit Charm of Alacrity at 80% of your life.

By doing a simple tank and spank type of mindset, I lived with 63% life. No healing or pots were involved. Naturally, this will vary with luck, skill, or gear. Because Gurok hits slow, your dodge chance as a druid will come in handy. I mentioned Charm of Alacrity up at bullet 5... use.. this.. to your advantage.

Gurok is not extremely hard. If you can't tank this guy, have your tank in your group do a similar fight. Demoralizing Shout/Roar, build threat, place back near obelisk... tank and spank. Enjoy.

Just soloed as a 68 feral druid with rather crap gear. Bear form, bear regeneration when full rage, then barkskin, heal up, bearform again, last stand. Finished at 200 HP, would've went easier if I had a health pot. Remember to have your back up against a pillar to avoid knockback.

Just soloed this as a 69 prot paladin, with the new 3.0 changes,
I know it's a bit higher of the level bracket than this quest is meant for, but with the new exp changes i'm halfway to 70 and still in Nagrand

My hp was 8934, 4434 mp,
using blessing of sanc. and ret aura.
Only used 1 mana pot, I also had glyph of flash of light to give a nice hot. I healed myself throughout, and used lay on hands admitadly, but no shield.

So, just ran this as a level 80 going back to finish old quests for rep, and I ran into a problem that hunters should watch out for if they're soloing it using pet as a tank with mend pet. The knockback through my pet over one of the smaller cliffs (pet barely survived) and then followed it down, and I (stupidly) continued hitting of Gurok from above. He died sort of in the cliff, make him impossible to loot.

As a lucky side note - if something goes wrong you don't have to run back to the quest giver, you can just collect 7 new skulls and try again.

Tried to solo as 69 shadow priest, bad idea >_<.
Hits for about 680-890 on cloth, + 1100ish Nature Dmg from Earth Shock.
Once he start hitting me, my 6k health was gone in about 10-15 seconds.
HoT won't do much good against that kind of DPS and taking down his 25k HP before that is quite impossible.

Taking down his 25k hp by running around isn't feasible (for a giant he's quite quick, also uses entangling roots, and there's not much room to run around).

Ridiculously easy to solo as a lvl 68 DK (Blood spec) ((Didn't need to use DRW))
If you're anything less then mail, then you may want to bring a friend.

He didn't use any knockback on me which was helpful - just keep diseases on him like you would with any mob, and fire away. Death Strike every 10 seconds, to keep hp above 75% (+5% damage) Occasionally he'll use Entangling Roots, but (if your HP is that low, which it shouldn't be) Anti-Magic Shell can be used just before its casted to minimise damage.
He hit me for about 200-400 damage, normal melee, next to no crushing blows.

Took about 30 seconds to kill.

Extremely easy as a 68 BM hunter - with a ferocity pet (cat), just keep mend pet up and use "Lick your Wounds" if need be. Bestial Wrath + Kill Command and DPS him down very very fast. Scorpid Sting if you don't want to waste mana on pet heals.
Simple fight, he didn't do any knockbacks on my pet. :/ Not sure if that'd be a problem if the fight were longer. Really no need to group for this.

Soloed with a level 67 Protection Warrior. Would have been a lot easier if I could have charged him initially, but I still managed it. Used all my trinkets and cooldowns. I actually dropped dead right after he did... but I made it back in time to loot him.

Very easy solo as enhance shaman, just lay back to ridge, lay totems. Just used wolves didn't have to use SR or earth elemental and use maelstroms for heals, make sure to uses taunt from wolves when it is up.

Guroks means of defense is kicking you off the mountain, what i did was put my back to all the crates (that the people are locked in on the right side) and hammered away. This prevented him from knocking me anywhere.

His behavior can be erratic. I had problems with him evading or running behind me due to pathing issues. When he didn't try to throw me, he stood still and didn't glitch.

Solo'd pretty easy as 67 boomkin. Popped trees, barkskin, and spammed Starfire. Used a health pot when I got to 1/3 HP and that gave me the extra HP needed to down him. Finished with 50%.

This can probably be soloed by any shaman at 66+ with an Earth Elemental. As an Elemental one (Well geared, to be fair), I put it down, put on the draenei heal. Waited a few for it to get aggro, then unloaded. I never had to heal it again, I killed him before the elemental died.

The knockback CANNOT KNOCK YOUR ELEMENTAL OFF THE MOUNTAIN. This means if you are far enough back, there is zero risk of this happening to you. It will only knock it to the utmost edge, same as if you knockback something with thunderbolt or typhoon. ~700 DPS didn't pull aggro, and I didn't even wait that long.

This guy does hit like a truck, though. Take the time to heal your elemental if your DPS is low. If you can't kill it in 2 minutes, then ... I don't know what to say.

And for some added info on the knockback, it seems to be point blank. Not sure if it's AoE, but you have to be in melee range. And yes it sends you FAR. Was pretty funny to see my elemental become a football.

soloed as bm 67 hunter in greens with raid talents and ferocity pet with dps talents (the pet dies faster + bad build for leveling), no pots or any special buff
you have to know when to use the distracting shot so the pet can recover a bit while you run and disengage/deterrence/feing death and then combat again

This is soloable as a 66-67 (i'm 67 but i haven't bought spells since 64 >.<) spriest even without dispersion.

What I did was buff up: foodbuffs (20 stam), int scroll, adepts elixir. All stuff that was given to me with other quests, useful but not necessary.

Make sure you start with your PW: S up and wait for the debuff to get off of you, pop your spellpower trinket (i had the one from hellfire still), VT, VE, DP, SW:P, MB, MF spam till you can refresh your dots. Make sure to pop PW:S back up as soon as the debuff is gone, and remember to bring a health pot cause you will need it.

The secret is the positioning, because if you position yourself so that when he throws you, are thrown simply to gain some breaths and nuke him more you will succeed easily. I positioned myself so that when he would throw me i would land down bellow to the west of his summoning circle, but he would still have me on target.

It's a bit tricky but I hope it helps!

Edit: Make sure you position yourself with your back against something (the pillars for example). Else you risk being thrown off the cliff. Since this post I have also soloed him with my discipline priest and enhancement shaman. Neither had any problems. I'd say it's pretty safe to claim this quest soloable by most (!) classes and specs.

Easy to solo as 68 frost mage.

Summon your Water Elemental and let him stay on one side, and you stand on the other side. Then you let your WE take inital aggro and after like 2-3 secs, start nuking with Icy veins popped. Then you use Ice block to let Gurok go back to your WE. Then remove it and cast like 2-3 frostbolts again. Then you can use Invisibilty and remove all aggro from you. Then he will attack your WE again and you can nuke him down.

If needed you can just use Cold Snap and summon a new WE/use another Ice Block if hypothermia has expired.

Very easy to kill for my lvl 68 unholy dk. Easier than the Cho'War guy earlier, actually, and easier than Tusker. I just used a scroll of strength, horn of winter, and my usual rotation (plague strike-icy touch-scourge strike-death coil-blood strike) with the exception of a lot of death strikes wherever I could get them in for the health. Never got knockback.

really easy for a lock to solo (well a 70 at least)

1. grab all your skulls
2. enslave a felguard legionairre from one of the forge camps
3. fly to the ritual circle (your enslaved demon can run straight up sheer cliffs :S)
4. summon and kill gurok, just keep your dps in check in case you pull aggro off the legionairre (i had to use soul shatter once)

He's a tough solo even @ 70. I got him down @ 70% , but I was lower. I vanished while he had 4 combo points, healed up from a distance. He was healed when I went back, but still had 4 points. Cheaped him then Exposed Armor, then popped S&D and Bladefist's Breadth and hacked like crazy. I still had 12% health in the end.

Coords 29,25 confirmed. At the top of Warmaul Hill. Get 7 skulls by killing ANY ogres in nagrand (I got mine at Laughing skull on the way there from Garadar)

Soloed it as a decently geared 70 PvP speced arms warrior.
Put on sword & board and fought him in Defensive stance with my back to the tree.
Used a health pot and one of those healthstones from Ogrila (prolly didn't need to use the pot but decided to play it safe). No cooldowns used though shield wall probably would have been good.

2nd wind + him casting Entangling roots ftw.

Took 2 tries only because at about 22% he did some garbage knock back that threw me all the way off the cliff and I died when I landed.

First time I tried, he just kicked me of the hill, but I bubbled.... So.. Didn't die:P

after that I just stood in front of a "wall" sort of and healed myself, bubbled, judged, divine storm.. yeah.. actually wasn't THAT hard.

Coords 29,25 confirmed. For those without coords: If you know where Corki's Ransom is, Gurok is outside on a plateau that you get to by taking a path that starts to the left of the cave and goes behind and above it.

69 BM Hunter with mainly greens (but I do have the gun from Tusker). Gurok (lvl 67 Elite for me) was almost as hard as taking on 2 Mountain Gronns at once. If you're able to solo that, you can solo Gurok.

Soloed as a 70 healadin. You just have to make sure to pull him away a bit and back up against a big wall or else the knockback will hurt you and cause a lot of down time. Immune to stun so don't rely on it for heal time. He interrupts and does some light burst damage so keep yourself topped off. It took all my cooldowns, including lay on hands, and a mana pot.

When you first walk up warmaul hill, take the path that is to the right. (If you go left you'll find a first set of caves.)

At the top of this hill, (There should be a large bonfire in the middle) there will be a cave to your left. (south-east-ish) Go north PAST this cave, and take the path leading up. There will be a glowing purple circle.

All the way at the top of the mountain, stand in the middle of the purple glowing circle ring ... use the 7 skulls you've hopefully picked up.

He comes, pretty squishy... I did it with 4 people, can probably pull it off with two or three pretty easily.

So DO NOT FIGHT this guy on the summoning circle. He will knock you off the ledge.

I was multiboxing 3 Shadow Priests, surrounding him in a triangle and he knocked all of them off the mountain one by one.

Needless to say I was upset.

Fight him downstairs the ramp a bit and face your back to a mountain wall.

Gordawg at the Throne of the Elements in Nagrand has asked that you destroy Gurok the Usurper and bring back Gurok's Earthen Head.

Description

Gurok must be summoned. You summon Gurok and you destroy.

You must go to Warmaul Hill to the northwest and find where ogre worships Gurok. You put ogre skull from Warmaul ogres on Gurok's earthen brand. Only then will Gurok come. Seven skulls.

If you live, bring Gordawg back Gurok earthen head. Gordawg crushes head.
